They could hear the noise from above them. Heavy footsteps from heavy minds, drink dulling the pain from another day in the slums. Seventh Heaven was busy. The basement was busier.
Avalanche had packed in, filling every nook and cranny, sweat dripping off wet foreheads as they waited for their instructions. They knew the end goal, the destruction of Shinra. Optimism had been sparked when they had heard of the mysterious death of President Shinra a few months ago, only to be stamped out when it became apparent that his successor was, if anything, even more ruthless.
Barret took the Red Materia out of the slot on his Gun Arm, set it on the table and turned to Tifa, “This friend of yours, we can trust him?”
Without looking up as she continued to lace her boots, “For the twelth time, yes. What is your problem with him?”
“You know exactly what my problem is”, came the dismissive reply.
“Former SOLIDER, Barret. Emphasis on the former. Get over it, we need him. You’ve seen him fight, he’s stronger than any of us and knows things we don’t.” She thought about Sephiroth and how their past might endanger them all, but kept it to herself.
The sigh was heavy, but resigned to the truth. “I know, you’re right. Anyway, catch.” Green Materia flew through the air and in one swift motion Tifa grabbed it with one hand and fit it into the slot on her other fist. “You’re going to need that. Everybody, listen up, you’re about to get an education on the inner workings of Mako Reactor 5.”
Damn it! He knew he had lost control of the damn thing, but what was he going to do about it? God only knows. Slamming his fist on the table, Reeve felt the cut on his knuckle reopen and blood start to trickle onto the newly dented wood.
It had been such a simple plan. A spy that wasn’t a spy. Basically, a drone in ways. Cait was controllable, that was point. How the hell had this happened?
Watching him storm out of the room, Scarlet had her sympathies. Things sometimes go wrong and she knew Reeve would do whatever necessary to fix it.
But that didn’t hide the fact that this was a problem. A big problem. A wild card none of them had anticipated was now in the mix.
Wutai was never far from Yuffie’s thoughts. How to save the town she loved, to gain the respect of the father she left behind? She sat there deep in thought, twiddling the Yellow Materia in her hands.
Red looked on and admired what he saw. Most people looked at Yuffie and only saw what was on the surface. The bravado, the cheek. He saw her for what she truly was. Scared. Far from home, unsure of what to do, but still willing to make a stand. She had a bravery most warriors he had faced lacked.
Thinking of her bravery naturally made him think of the opposite, cowardice. His mind went to Hojo and his mood rapidly changed. The torture he endured under than man. That sick smile as he was in agony. If he ever saw him again, Red did not know for sure what he would do.
“Go on then, tell me of this plan of yours. The one I’m paying millions for.”
Heidegger audibly gulped. It had seemed such a good idea at the time. His father had grown fat and weak, it was time to let the young and hungry take over, the lead the corporation to new heights. But when approached about the possibility of Rufus taking over, Heidegger had thought they meant to replace him through aggressive board moves, not to kill the man, certainly not in the way they did. He could still hear the old man’s cries for mercy.
“It..it..it’s about Materia, sir.”, came the stammered reply. “We’ve been conducting research into the different types and we think they’re the key to retaining power and crushing Avalanche.”
Rufus nodded, signaling his lackey to continue.
“As you know, there are 5 different types of Materia in this world: Green, Red, Yellow, Blue and Purple. We believe that each of these Materia, when utilised correctly, can offer the holder unique powers. For instance, take this.” Heidegger picked up the Purple Materia that was placed on the table. “Hojo’s scientists have managed to decipher that this Materia can offer some kind of violence protection. It remains dormant until its host is attacked, but then...well...it’s a good job we have your pet to help dispose of bodies.” He winced as he remembered the crunch of the old man’s bones. Could they not have killed him first?
Rufus seemed deep in thought. “So, you’re telling me these Materia hold power and that we can use that power against our enemies? I see. So, the natural next question is to ask who have you place as responsible to collecting these Materia?”
Heidegger stood to attention and saluted. “That would be me, sir!”
“Good. We wouldn’t want anything to go wrong now, would we?”
As he stood there, looking directly at the new president, Heidegger hoped that his trembling hand wasn’t obvious.
Cloud sat at the bar, drowning out the noise of the people around him, concentrating on the noise below. This was one of the many perks from his time in SOLDIER, an ability to drown out noise from around him and concentrate on what was important. Avalanche were meeting and he was awaiting his cue.
The little girl from behind the bar dragged his attention away. Legally, she shouldn’t have been there, too young to serve drinks. Hell, she could barely reach the pumps. But every person that went into Seventh Heaven knew of Marlene and her painful history. She was theirs to protect now and if that mean letting her serve when she wanted, the extra foam on your pint was worth it.
“Daddy doesn’t like you. Why?”
Cloud near enough spat his drink across the bar, but he couldn’t help but smile at the precociousness of the young girl.
“I’m a former SOLDIER. Simple as that.”
Marlene looked at him with her faced scrunched up, like she was working out the world’s toughest puzzle. “That’s stupid. Your nice. I know that. Auntie Tifa knows that. Daddy should too.”
“Give him time. Haven’t you got something for me, anyway?”
Marlene broke out in a huge grin as she reached into her back pocket, pulled out some Blue Materia and placed it on the bar.
Cloud could hear the introductions happening below, so he picked up the Blue Materia, placed it into his Buster Sword and made his way to the lift. As it made its way down, he thought of all the possibilities. Survival, slow death or instant destruction. He thought about Sephiroth. But he always thought about Sephiroth. About the Black Materia. About the end of all things.
“CAN YOU FEEL THAT KID? WIND IN YOUR HAIR, NOTHING LIKE IT!”
Vincent couldn’t hear a word coming out of Cid’s mouth, but he nodded anyway. His friend looked happy, why would he go and ruin the moment? Midgar passed far beneath them, villages looking like toys.
While it wasn’t space, by God, Cid still loved to fly. Highwind had proved a hell of a ship, even more so now it had a purpose.
Vincent closed his eyes and tried to experience that same joy. Only a little came, but it was enough. He knew he might die, but he was determined that, if it happened, it wouldn’t stop him.
Every drop that left her was like a red hot dagger plunged into flesh. It was, In a very real sense, her blood that was being drained. The essence which gave her, and everybody on her, life.
She knew that death was approaching. Either a slow, painful seeping out of existence through Shinra’s continued wanton greed, or a violent, cataclysmic end brought on Spehiroth. She could feel him, his desires. The Black Materia. What it would do terrified her.
But too could she sense Arieth, her desires. The White Materia. What it would do gave her the strength to endure.
Death or life. What would it be for Gaia?

If your character is in green, you are part of the town. It is your job to hunt down all threats to the town, lynch or kill them. If your character is in red, you are part of the scum. It is your job to help attain an unbeatable scum majority voting block. If your character is yellow, you are neutral and have an individual win condition which will be sent to you along with your character.
Unless you are part of the scum, you are not allowed to discuss any aspect of the game with any other player outside of this thread.
You are not allowed to reveal who you are. You are not allowed to drop hints about who your character is. For example, if Cloud were to say something like "Rainy day today.", that player would be thrown out of the game. You are allowed to reveal information you have received as part of your role (if you wish to do so). You are allowed to lie and make things up (this mostly applies to scum and neutral, but not exclusively).
Most importantly, enjoy yourself. Accusations will get thrown your way, it's the nature of the game. Try and keep in mind that's all it is and roll with it.

Night One
After seeing how the entire world had almost pushed through his early death, Aerith decided to stand by Stan in his hour of need. No harm would befall him tonight.
No action on the first day, Tifa was restless. She almost hoped for some action as she stood by CWE. She knew she might die, but that goes with the territory.
Inaction on Day One would continue into Night One for Pablo, Barret preventing any action he might have had planned.
The Highwind flies again once more! Cid chomped on a cigar as he looked at Fro and Badger.
Damn, she looked cool. Her new ninja suit was black from head to toe. Sure enough, there was Yuffie’s target, Fro. I wonder if he has anything in his pocke...SUCCESS! She could hardly believe it. As she ran away, she thought about what she might do with this little green rock...
YUFFIE HAS STOLEN THE USE OF THE GREEN MATERIA FOR TONIGHT
Popping it into the slot in her Shuriken, Yuffie feels it thump the air around her with power. Concentrating, she puts Jordo into her mind. Who was he, exactly?
Mysteriously, a message was making its way through the back channels of the city. It’s recipient, Caito, wasn’t sure what to expect when he opened the envelope.
Heidegger was putting his plan into action. It had to work, my God, it had to work. He didn’t want to end up with the same fate as so many others. This had to wor...well blimey, would you look at that. It had worked. Genius. He was a genius.
THE BLUE MATERIA’S POWER IS NOW UNDER EXCLUSIVE SCUM CONTROL
Cackling manically to himself, Hojo puts wardy in his sights and grins as his plan for the night sets itself into motion. “Nothing’s wrong, honest.”, the glint in his eye revealing his evil intent.
What’s that? If you listen really closely you can hear...what is that...Morse Code? Another message was pinging round and round the world. This one landed into the lap of Badger.
Five common Materia remained in the world, but only Green was used on this night.
Pulsing in the dark, sensing its master. Wanting to be found. Destroy them all. The Black Materia pushed out its senses to Badger. Was it you? No, no it wasn’t. The search for Sepiroth continued.
She wasn’t a woman to mess around. What was that phrase they used as children? Go hard or go home. She had seen people fail and fail again by choosing the easier path. Nothing is too hard, too risky as long as you plan for it well. Scarlet had found her target and she lowered the newest acquisition from her department and aimed it towards Psycho. As she pulled the trigger she watched as Psycho lost all semblance of structure and began to disintegrate in front of her eyes. Once it was finally gone, she relented, releasing the trigger and looking at the weapon. They had done well. Though, she admitted, she would have to apologise to Heidegger, he would never get the full set anymore. Not when Purple Materia no longer exists in the world.

Night Two
So much had already happened, how were they to make sense of it all? Maybe the message making its way to Badger would help?
Perhaps it would, perhaps not. But Red was also interested in Badger and set to work on finding out if he was a threat or not.
Another had defended him the previous night, now it was her turn. Tifa stood, ready to that bullet for Stan, if it came to it.
The Red Materia, still confused as to why its previous target had declined to use his power searched for another tonight. Unfortunately, the target was bad and the Red Materia would again be still tonight.
But what of the White Materia? It had no power to immediately give and so was more open in its call. As it called to Jarrod it hoped they would connect in saviour’s call. Alas, it was not the girl.
Its opposite in every way, the Black Materia, continued to call to its master. Was that rage he felt coming from Peter Griffin? No, no it wasn’t. Its search continued.
He was losing his mind, he was sure of it. That laugh, he had no control over it now. It just came. With thoughts of pain and death and destruction. Hojo threw his concoction over TimeSplitter. “Fail, fail, fail you shall. HEEE HEEEE HAAAA!”
In appreciation for all his hard work the day before, Areith got on her knees and began to pray for Caito. He would be safe tonight.
With his trusty airship, Cid threw kangus and CWE on board, dropping them off where the other had been. He was enjoying some ice cold beer, having parked the Highwind up and thinking how funny it would be when people got their aiming wro... The thought in his head never got the chance to finish. Scarlet was stood there, smiling, pointing that thing at his head. Without giving him a chance to speak, Scarlet pulled the trigger and Cid’s head expanded as if filled with air and suddenly popped. This one was fun, Scarlet thought. Messy, but fun. Wardy would be flying no more.

But Scarlet wasn’t done, she had more work to do. With a powerful hum, the Blue Materia they had previously stolen and placed it into the slot in her weapon. Onto target number two. Pablo was frustrated. Blocked by his own side on Night One, maybe now he could get to work. He had asked the spirits for their help and it was coming. He could just make it out. But, no. Pablo would never find out who Badger was. Scarlet had found Cid’s death amusing, but despite her sadism, didn’t feel the same way watching a large dog expand and then explode. Even she had limits. Unlike Red, whose limit had broke.

In the middle of all this carnage, another message was flying through the air. This time, Caito sat back and opened the missive.
It had successfully found somebody the night before, but then been stolen. How rude. Tonight, the Green Materia reached out again, hoping for his power to be used. Again, he was successful. Having received this power, the recipient concentrated and thought of someone they wanted to know all about. But they were confused, when instead of the person they wanted, they instead received information on CWE. You had to wonder, wherever his soul now was, if Cid still thought this funny?
Two Avalanche members dead, the Blue Materia in enemy hands. How could this get worse? This is how.
It started innocently enough. Kdestiny had plans, but Barret said no, choosing him to block tonight. That was frustrating, but he’ll keep his composure and go again another day.
His night only became more frantic when he suddenly felt Yuffie going through his pockets. He grabbed her hand and smiled. “Afraid not, no Materia on me.” kdestiny watched as Yuffie stormed off.
If only that was the only steal to happen that night.
The Yellow Materia, after its failure the night before, was searching for another to use its power. Tonight, it succeeded. Using that power, the recipient turned to kdestiny, acquiring access to kdestiny’s power. With no hesitation, the person wielding the Yellow Materia’s power grabbed the nearest sword and plunged into the heart of the person standing before him. Only that sword was a Buster Sword. Cloud was gone.

Aerith felt it happen. Felt that blade pierce his chest. Felt his last thoughts were of her. She stopped praying, looked to the morning sun and rose to her feet. She would still do this. She would still save this world. While she was alive, while the White Materia was still in this world, there was still hope. Life could still win.

Night Three
Following the Midgar Massacre of the previous night, Avalanche got to work. They were few now, but their determination still strong. To keep Rip safe, Tifa stood ready to take that bullet.
While yesterday the Yellow Materia had brought about the death of the former SOLDIER, today its search for somebody to use its power was unsuccessful.
The same could be said for the Green Materia, who decided another target was worth granting his power to. Unfortunately, his target could not take it.
For the second night in a row, Aerith got on her knees and prayed for the safety of Caito.
Had that prayer reached out to the White Materia? It called to TimeSplitter, but alas, it was not she.
Would doom befall the world before the light could save it? The Black Materia called out to HFR. Thankfully, it was not he.
Getting home, The Diamond looked with bewilderment at the message waiting for him.
Hojo was now full on losing his sanity. Cackling with evil intent, he threw his concoction over Jarrod and fled into the night.
One night good, one night bad. Yuffie tried to make it 2/3 ain’t bad by sifting through Bluegunn’s pockets. However, they were empty and she went home with nothing once again.
My word, wasn’t Caito popular? Another message landed at his feet.
Barret scratched his head. He knew what he wanted to do, but had no idea how to do it. Defeated for the night, he abandoned his job and went home.
It was morning and now TimeSplitter was on his way home. Yes, they were in this fight, but life still went on. They needed supplies for the bar. Marlene needed a new dress for school. Timesplitter would never get these things. Scarlet pressed the trigger and the bomb went off. They had been experimenting with acid recently, easier to direct than explosives. Shame about the old couple who were walking past at the same time, but nobody would ever know, they would simply disappear. Any evidence of Tifa existing, melted away.

The Red Materia still hadn’t been used. On the first night, the person could have but decided not to. Last night, he had chosen poorly. But tonight, tonight it had hit the jackpot. Not only had it found somebody, but that person had kangus in his sights. Using the Red Materia they summoned Ifrit, watching as it grew into the Fire God incarnate. Readying a fireball, Ifrit was about to unleash it onto kangus when *poof*, he disappeared out of existence. What had happened, why hadn’t it worked? Kangus didn’t care, it meant he was still alive.

Night Four
For the third night in a row, Aerith got on her knees and began praying for Caito’s survival.
Yuffie had come up short more often than she had hit the jackpot. Maybe that would change tonight when she went hunting lotjx for Materia he had. Frustrated once again, she went hoime empty handed.
The Green Materia, able to shape thhe destiny of the world if given to the right people, ufortunately found nobody able to use it once again.
The Yellow Materia though, they were more lucky, finding somebody to slot it into their weapon. Using its power, they decided to steal from Morrison. Ultimately though, seeing what he could do, they declined to use it.
Was anyone ever as popular as Caito? Four messages in four days.
Hojo could barely speak now, instead mumbling and cackling to himself constantly. As he threw his substance over Fro, the laughs had brought him to tears.
For the first time Fro look up in surprise, as a message mysteriously landed on his lap.
Barret was one of the few Avalanche members left standing. Getting himself together, he prevents HFR from doing anything that night.
The Red Materia, why hadn’t it worked the previous night? No matter, it tried again. Successfully finding somebody to slot it into their weapon, it could feel its power being used. This time it felt the figure of Shiva being formed, the Ice Queen readying daggers of ice to rip apart its hosts’ target. HFR saw it all happening and laughed even harder. When the first dagger hit it was as if his mind was playing tricks on him. That was fire, surely, not ice, for it burned. He laughed harder and harder as each one hit, before HFR began losing volume. By the time Shiva and returned to the Red Materia, Hojo was merely a streak of blood of the floor.

When the news came through, Scarlet could not believe it. Hojo was dead. They had been going so well, but now it was in jeopardy. Anger filled her and she took it out of the first thing she saw. Badger had felt it when others of his had fallen. One by one being destroyed, leaving this world for good. Like them all, Badger had hoped he would live to the end. But as Scarlet’s weapon disintergreated it, the Yellow Materia knew it would not.

They all saw his face.
Every living creature had that image branded onto their mind’s eye, telling them their time was running short.
Rip had seen it and it had scared him. Now he saw him in front of him and he realised he had never known fear before. He wasn’t a fighter, he leaved that others, so he turned and ran as fast as he could. When Spehiroth just appeared before him, he knew they had played it wrong. The Masamune sliced into Rip/Rip and he fell to the ground. He was bleeding out too quickly, the cut too deep, Rip/Rip was done for. Play both sides, that was the plan. The only thing Cait/Reeve had ended up doing, was playing himself.

The planet cried out as so many perished. Spehiroth heard this, knew where he could now strike. Morrison had the chance to live on when it wanted, but had chosen not to. With Sephiroth now sending his clones to poison the lifestream further, Morrison wondered whether it should have. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. They all still had hope, but they would have to do it without the help of Gaia.

So much death, so much destruction. Hope remained. Hope always remained. The White Materia pulsed once again, desperate to find her. The one who could save them all. Pooling all its effort it went to Caito. But no, again, no.
Aerith felt its power as it searched for the person she was protecting. So close. Find me, please, find me.

Night Five
Another Materia down, there was only one left. Hoping it had chosen Mazer, Yuffie subtly checked his pockets. Damn! Nothing there.
Barret was pissed. Unlike last night he’d do his job right. Stan was going nowhere.
The Green Materia hummed with power as its recipient placed it into the slot on their weapon. Placing Stan in their mind, they would learn who he is.
Aerith once again got on her knees and began to pray. But this time, she prayed for Fro.
There she was, oblivious. Stupid girl, kneeling there, hoping for a salvation that would never come. Taking out the company’s new Ice Ray, Scarlet watched as Bluegunn’s skin turned blue. Their eyes met as the realisation dawned on Bluegunn that this was it, this was then end. As her body solidified, Aerith let go. The last of the ancients, the last hope of the world, frozen in time.
