The Law and The Gun - A Mafia Spin-off

A smaller game. 48/24 Hours phases(48 hour day-phases, 24-hour night phases). One cop that is randomized each night with no repeats until every town player has been cycled through. Rather than the standard lynch, one townie will be given a gun each phase. If they shoot correctly, they hold the gun for the following day phase unless killed. If they shoot town, they die, and the gun is given to the shot player. That player will have immunity for the following night phase.

To shoot, just post:

The Basics
1) Unless you are specifically told in your roles, you are not able to PM or communciate with anyone concerning the game. If you are caught doing so, you will be MODKILLED and banned from any further games.

2) You are not allowed to ROLECLAIM. This means you can't say something like "I'm the Cop, so don't vote for me!" Also NO BREADCRUMBING such as "Hey, don't vote for me, I can find out info on so and so." This also includes hinting at your flavor role via quotes and hints.

3) This does not include sharing information that you have received. Yes, this is a fine line. Be careful.

4) You are not allowed to edit any posts from here on out. If you screwed up something you said or want to clarify it, simply make a new post and post the following at the beginning of it: EBWOP (edit by way of post). If you edit a post, you may be MODKILLED.

6) Once you are lynched or killed, you are no longer allowed to comment in this thread until after the game has ended.

7) If you are not participating in this game, please do not comment in this thread. This thread is only for people who are participating in the game. If you're interested, join the next game, as I'm sure there will be more.

8) To win, you have to do the following. For those in Town, not only do you have to survive, but you also have to eliminate all members of the Mafia. For those in Mafia, not only do you have to survive, but you also have to become the majority of players. Some players may have unique win conditions, including Neutral roles.

9) No post requirement, but repetitive absence will be punished by a MODKILL.

10) Night chat is allowed! This includes game discussion.

GAME START

They were clever. They did not come into town guns ablazing, demanding that they be shown the safe. They settled in, spent much time at the saloon, and scoped everything out. Tried to mingle with townspeople. Get all the information they can on the town, the Sheriff, and who guards the safe. They knew as long as they did nothing wrong, the Law couldn't do a thing to them. They'd bide their time and secretly eliminate all their threats as they got closer to their prize.

The Sheriff was well aware of this predicament, and while he didn't trust Sarsaparilla Jones as far as he could throw him, he didn't dare arrest him without some kind of evidence. As he returns to his office and sits down at his desk, a sigh of stress escapes his lips. He grabs his bottle of whiskey, takes a big swig, then slams it back down on his desk. He reaches down to rest his hand on his gun at his side...but it's not there. "What in tarnation...? Ah, hell, one of the ornery ones must have nabbed it from me while I wasn't lookin'."

Elsewhere, Mazer clutches the Sheriff's gun in his hand, slowly making his way to the saloon. If the Sheriff wasn't going to do something, the townspeople would.

Day One has now begun. @Mazer has the gun. You have 48 hours to choose a target to shoot.

DAY ONE

NIGHT ONE

Meanwhile, Nosh Diesel sleeps comfortably in his home, figuring a good night's rest will make him sharper tomorrow. Unfortunately for him, there would be no tomorrow. Sarsaparilla Jones and his two right-hand men broke into his home without a person to witness. Nosh hears something that awakes him, but he immediately feels the heavy brunt of a rifle against his temple and is out like a light again. Tommy Quickdraw laughs while feeling proud of himself. "No you don't, varmint! There's no hope for your story."

Bugsy Maverick begins seething. "You idiot! My plan was to hang him and make it look like it was self-inflicted! No one's going to believe that with a big ass bruise on the side of his head!"

The two start arguing as Sarsaparilla Jones calmly pulls rope out of a sack. "Boys, calm down. The plan's still on. And if anyone becomes suspicious of foul play, they'll just be next." A sickening grin spreads over his face as the three carry out the deed.

The next morning, Nosh Diesel is found hanging from a beam inside his house, with a stool knocked over beneath him.

Nosh Diesel has been hung. He was Town-aligned.

I feasibly could, but I'm gonna keep it small so the game doesn't drag on too long with a low PR-setup. Plus, we have a pretty large average of players per game, so I think shaking it up a bit keeps the momentum going.

It’s my wife’s Gran who’s already on end of days care, problem is my wife and her sister are looking after her 25/7 or she’d have to go into hospital which would mean dying alone, but Em is now terrified she’ll get it and infect me, and of course I’m bloody high risk, so the whole thing is mega shite and we’ve no idea what’s going to happen next, worst case Em is going to end up living there for the next month or so and my daughter (15) is going to have to do all our shopping etc as I’m in isolation, what bloody fun!

Yeah, I lost my uncle when I was in my twenty’s, the guy gave me my first job and taught me everything about business, he was amazing, got caught up in the first Saudi invasion and the desert storm shit, he had a big 4x4 and the Iraq troops were using him as a taxi service, threatening to shoot him after every trip, one day he dropped off a patrol and just gunned it across the desert before the next lot jumped in, went back over afterwards and helped rebuild, we had one of the first export licenses to there and shipped all sorts of stuff over there from engineering shit to nursing supplies that they couldn’t get elsewhere, he made a fortune and it was crazy fun times.

He got cancer and died in days, I’ll go to my grave with the guilt of not seeing him because I lost my bottle.

I’m not gonna pry but just guessing that because you also have a big family to look after that it’s also not as easy for you to go and travel to see him in days or even explain to the kids. No doubt you paid your respects when you could. I was fortunate in a way that my mum was in a hospital only 20 miles away so it was easier for me to travel.

I dig the idea of this game a lot. Especially with how aggressive play has been lately.

That threat of death on missing will def narrow that down a bit.

Scum can get the gun right? I thought I remembered reading in the discussion of the game that they couldn't, but us knowing who gets the gun every day kind of makes it so scum has to be allowed to get it

As far as this goes it's very interesting but also a lot of pressure on one person to get it right so it really puts more into reads as well as trust than spreadsheets. Though that will eventually be helpful to weed certain people out later.

In the night zero right up psycho mentioned someone guarding the safe. Did anyone read that as a role or did everyone else read that as flavor for what the sherif is doing?

We can still lynch correct?

From my reading of the rules the gun's a town only tool.

I wasn’t in the last game so makes no difference to me.

I won’t object too strongly as the game is underway now, but I’d maybe have had the gun bounce around town secretly and only reveal the town alignment if they died. If the town gets a successful scum shot then only reveal the scum that died. If the town misses though then reveal the shooter as town.

The reason for revealing the gun is mostly because it would be a pointless endeavor to try to convince the gunholder to shoot himself. I guess it could play around with the idea of who scum was trying to target, maybe, but eh.

Obviously the shooter wouldn’t shoot himself because I agree that lynching is not needed but the aim for scum would be to convince the shooter to shoot one of town instead. If scum accidentally try and convince the shooter to be killed then that’s on them and they’ll likely be shot. Pass the gun onto someone else the next night. Keeps everything a mystery.

Just a bit of feedback and not meaning to be a bother. Rules are rules and I’ll stick to them.
