I guess the true story is that Solo felt inadequate and in the shadow of Reigns so needs the help of his islanders to return him to dominance, like Reigns had with the Usos and him. The story makes more sense with the prior losses really. He's capable (beat Cena clean) but had been unfocused on his own goals. I think they should let the Reigns return marinate a bit, there's no rush to get him back in there for a Summerslam match.

For me I'd go Rhodes vs. Sikoa for the title, Reigns returns after Cody retains and spears Solo, then Cody. Establishes him as a more interesting character than just a straight babyface. He wants his Bloodline back, but the belt is as important. Then you have all of the fall to build to the re-establishment of the original Bloodline and War Games. New Bloodline wins with Rock interference and taking his place as the head of the table, then you long build to Rock vs. Roman with the big singles match with Solo on the way. On the other side of the bracket, Orton gets broken down fighting Cody's battles, turns, and there's your night 1 main event for 'Mania. Sami Zayn wins the Rumble to face Gunther for the title, Punk vs. McIntyre Hell in a Cell if they can keep it fresh long enough (or Punk vs. Rollins) and you've got a monster 'Mania.

Cody Rhodes v. Solo tonight in a steel cage for the WWE title. It does kind of amaze me a little that neither Cody or Gunther are wrestling that much on free tv. Maybe it just feels that way. I think tonight we're going to see Cody branch off from whatever is going on with the Bloodline and Roman jumping in to really start building toward matches/ppvs. SD returning to USA, they're going to want something huge for tonight's show and I believe I heard they're starting the show with the World title match.

I went to catch last weeks Smackdown on HULU and I notice they moved to a paid-tier level membership. Up until last week you could catch the newest Smackdown by mid-afternoon the day after (Saturdays).

Ok my son was telling me that they were going to be taking Smackdown off and you'd have to watch it with like Hulu Live. Which is weird because they'll be on USA, just like Raw. But I assume once Raw goes to Netflix they'll be off Hulu and IDK if Hulu has any CW shows.

Owens should have smashed Rhodes with the chair or hit him with Stunner, that wouldn’t even qualify as a heel turn because totally justified. In under ten minutes, Cody goes from “I’m finally done with The Bloodline” to voluntarily teaming up with his most hated rival? Nah fam.

Enjoyed the off-site promo, their rubber match is going to be an absolute banger. Reigns/Rhodes III probably needs to (again) be at Mania for the title, anywhere other than that does the rivalry a massive disservice. Roman likely goes over in Vegas. I cannot wait for the Seth Rollins smoke that’s inevitably headed Cody Rhodes’ way.

The decision in the Tornado Tag was totally understandable, SmackDown can’t afford to lose Bayley nor can they have her lose to Nia. I think Naomi beats Bayley and loses to Nia, then Tiffany successfully cashes in.

Who’s next for Knight? Hopefully Montez Ford.

MCMG coming next week, good start to the Orton/Rhodes/Owen triangle, The Bloodline getting heat and planting the seeds for the original Bloodline, smart build to the eventual US Title triple threat. Good stuff. O.G. Bloodline with Sami is going to get a nuclear pop. Could be the build for Sami vs. Owens too, with Sami also 'betraying' KO by fighting with the Bloodline.

The GOD being pretty crap hasn't stopped the Bloodline orbit being one of the best all time angles. Roman, Rock, The Usos, Solo, Sami, Jacob, the Tongans and Heyman have all been members, but Cody, KO, Orton and Seth are all integral to the story, and most have strong established stories between each other as well. It's been spectacular.

Popping in to comment on the tag match with Bianca/Jade vs MetaFour...

I'm glad Lash and Jakara got to compete on SD, and that was so nice that Bianca was willing to bump and sell for both of them (you just know she wanted to help those two shine). I know they are NXT stars and have a lot of work to do, but I like them as a tag team and think they can offer something to the tag division.

Now, I'm not a Jade hater, but it is beyond obvious they limited Jade's time in this match because they were working with rookies from NXT. Jade is a two time current tag champion, and I expect more than just being tagged in for a hot tag to slap on a finisher. I expect a main roster champion can wrestle more than 20 seconds with an NXT star. And for what it is worth, Jade is just doing what she's booked to do, I realize that. But if they want to shut up Jade doubters, they need to let her go out there and wrestle for more than 30 seconds at a time. We live in an era of women's wrestling in WWE that is highly competitive, especially with the likes of Bianca, Charlotte, Becky, Bayley, Asuka, IYO, and Rhea, with outstanding rookies Tiffany, NXT stars that outwrestle main roster women like Giula and Roxanne. Heck, I'll even give Liv credit and say she has significantly stepped up her game.

I guess I'm just exhausted from Jade constantly being handled with kid gloves on. She's not a rookie (she's been training since 2018), and she's certainly not above criticism (though over at my favorite women's wrestling site, criticism of Jade is met with thunderous downvotes). If it were anyone other than Jade, I feel like people would demand they step up their game. And she has improved since her AEW days!! But outside of a killer look and cool entrance, her mic work and wrestling do not come close to her hype, and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.

Enjoyed the Bloodline stuff again. They're really building the OG reunion well by not rushing into undoing the fallout over the last year or so. Adds a layer of intrigue to the Uso/Bron title match, as they could get involved to cost him the belt and give him a reason to want to get it back without necessarily fighting for Roman.

Tag division is good but needs the titles back around a non-henchmen team. Women's division is picking up steam. Knight is kind of treading water but is picking up wins. Owens/Orton/Cody story is a nice slow burner where Owens possibly becomes the catalyst for the Orton turn and 'Mania title match.

Did you watch TNA as MCMG are pretty well known. Not sure about the theme music as seems way different but could grow on me.
Best of seven is likely a throwback to Benoit/Booker in WCW and they did it again in WWE as well years later.
Owens is threatening to leave WWE so kayfabe not an easy decision to make so Orton has to go over his head to HHH who he can talk around given their history. Owens needs a fresh coat of paint as a heel anyways.
Jimmy is likely going to get involved in Jey/Bron on Raw to push that storyline further.
I do agree about the belt though. The premise would be fine without that gaudy belt lol.

Really good show that, with the needed title change and advancement of all the key angles.

The slow build to Rhodes vs. Orton is going to rule. Those looks at the belt, the implication from Triple H that Orton doesn't have it in him and has to be protected, Owens actually having a point to his grievances. Feels like Owens beats him pretty emphatically, setting Orton off on his path to find his old self. All while settling Owens back in as a major heel, possibly spinning back to Sami rejoining the original Bloodline and him going crazy about that.

Enjoyed the Bloodline angle. Yes, MCMG were kind of an afterthought, but they still got the big show closing title win and are positioned atop a strong tag division that just needs focus around the belts. Jimmy and Jey reuniting was sweet, with Roman still not sure about Jey.

Cody vs. Gunther feels big time. Really enjoyed there back and forth. I know the belts stupid but the premise works here as both have lost like 1 singles match each in 18 months or so, with Gunther's stretch even longer. Interested how they go about it.

The women's stuff is lacking a strong protagonist on Smackdown. Naomi and Bayley are good but don't feel like stars. Get Bianca and Jade back in the mix.

Pretty much echoing Fanny, great show.

The breaking of the 4th wall with Randy confronting Paul in gorilla was pretty freaking cool, an homage to their lengthy history. It was significant because Orton is probably one of the very few guys on the roster that could get that quick muted shot approved, to Paul pulling rank and sending Randy out, to Paul coming out and showing tremendous on-screen restraint with his close friend, to ultimately folding and giving Orton what he wants.

Paul is showing great character growth, he’s older and absolutely realizes his vulnerability; not a single pro wrestler would have gotten away with any of those shenanigans with The Game.

I was one of the initial “HHH as boss” fanboys, find myself extremely hard pressed to find major fault with his reign as unquestioned shotcaller. Like The Wiseman said in his HOF induction speech: “I will forever be a Paul Levesque guy.” If the old man gets completely erased a la “he who shall not be named”, I’d be totally fine with that.

I do have to disagree however, with the statement that Bayley isn’t a star. That’s flatout wrong.

Epic build to The Bloodline civil war. Jey costing 2.0 their tag gold (eye-for-an-eye), the twins making up and OTC still not ready to admit fault. They’re still going to need a fourth by the end of next month, my off-the-board bet remains Hikuleo.

I foresee Bloodline shenanigans in the Rhodes/Gunther matchup, protecting both guys and keeping the wick dry for a future date. Paul course corrected with Butch, can he do the same with Gunther?

Three plus months of The Legend Killer 2.0 versus The Prize Fighter? Inject that shit into my veins, please.

Again, I plead ignorance with MCMGs. I look forward to the many new storylines in a revitalized SmackDown tag division.

I love the creation of the Women’s US title, a secondary singles title has been long overdue. Hopefully RAW follows suit.

I smell a Sami turn. Joining forces with Roman, who was a complete shithead and cost him a home victory, doesn’t really make sense. Jimmy definitely, because his singles run is non-existent; Jey sure, because of family and particularly given his determination to be seen as an equal. A deliberate Helluva kick to cost Roman at Survivor Series?

I wonder if the big Orton injury angle is to set up an Owens match at Wrestlemania, postponing Orton vs. Rhodes to later on? I mean, there's Punk, Cena, Rollins and McIntyre available, or (more likely) any permutation involving Roman and The Rock. Just felt too big a sell to get that match done in the next couple of months. Could be wrong. Great options they have here.

Like the addition of the women's US Title, with Raw presumably to follow with the IC Title. Gives a sense of hierarchy in the division and a vehicle to build stars before moving them on to the next level. Plenty of talent in NXT that can get involved too when they're ready. Wonder if the 2 women's champions and their entourages team in War Games? Good to see Jade and Bianca back against the main players.

Bloodline stuff ruled. I love how this has been a pretty obvious culmination since the Tama Tonga debut, but they've let it marinate, built Solo and particularly Jacob well, not made Jey and Sami look weak by sucking back up to Roman, and retained Reigns' edge despite being a babyface. Do they debut a new member? Rock involvement? Or keep it simple and have the OG Bloodline win clean? Also, Jacob in that environment will be crazy.

Sami in the bloodline is still fucking magic. Never in a million years did anyone think it would have been what it was when sami first started getting involved. Then come to tonight and you just get that real deal feel all over again, almost like it never left. It sure would be nice if this had a few extra weeks to let them work thier magic together again.

I think the Bloodline's get separated from each other, with Roman (and Jimmy) going to Raw in time for the Netflix deal. They're going to chuck everything at that early I think. Cena, Rock, Reigns and the OG Bloodline, Punk, McIntyre, Rhea and Rollins all around, with Gunther as World champion. Must watch going into 'Mania. Maybe balance it by sending Rollins or Drew over, and Cena floating. Plenty of options. But I expect them to be around a bit. Maybe even add Heyman to the new boys to keep building their legitimacy.

What if the 5th member for the OG Bloodline is Heyman? I mean they used to have JJ Dillon and Paul Ellering as the 5th members....Doubt it but honestly I'd rather have that as opposed to shoehorning Cody in the mix. It was fine for that one time.

Women's US title. I do not want to see anyone super established win the title so nix Horsewomen, Bianca, Asuka, Rhea, Liv, even Iyo as she had a nice long reign as Women's champ. My short list would be Naomi, Raquel, Lyra, and Kairi. Blair Davenport would be a darkhorse if she's in the mix. I feel like she's someone who the WWE just signed because of her buzz in Japan but they really need to do something of worth.

People trippin about that piledriver spot and it did look like ass but what people don't get is that the fact it's not just about Orton's neck but his spine. His back issues are well documented and here he just took a move a big ass dude like that shouldn't be taking. So while he didn't get dumped on his head, the man is 6'6" 290lbs coming off spine surgery. It's why Hogan said Taker fucked him up on that Tombstone. Nakamura looked cool but I'm about as excited to see him as I was for guys like Dolph and Jericho. Once a guy gets in the Jericho role it's hard to sink your teeth into anything. Last year around this time I was convinced the WWE were going to finally put the World title on him, even for a month or two, and they didn't. They had Super Seth kill off any hope I'll have of them doing anything World title-level with him. He's not beating LA Knight unless LA Knight is turning heel and going after Cody Rhodes.

Trust in Trips. I didn't like the flip to 5 vs. 5, but they've only gone and pulled it off logically. Reed, the mercenary with Samoan descent, counteracted with the Wiseman bringing back one of his oldest charges. Match quality gets improved massively, it puts Reigns and Punk in the same atmosphere which felt huge, and it makes Seth Rollins interesting for once. Punk has swooped in and taken his chance of revenge! Start of the slow burn heel turn, hopefully a reboot from the character he is now, leading to 'Mania.

Owens vs. Rhodes is going to be great when it happens. That promo was excellent. Owens is the best kind of heel, completely justified with his animosity towards Cody, but still a dick.

Midcard stuff was fun too. Good angle advancement. Go Chelsea!

Mad to think this company ran Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin as a PPV double main event five years ago. Feels lightyears ago. Shane McMahon beat Roman Reigns. Corbin covered Reigns with dog food. That Fiend/Rollins Cell match. Goldberg squashing the Fiend. Brock squashing Kofi to set up a Cain Velasquez programme. They now have a fleet of main eventers with big momentum and live in full arenas and stadiums.

Realistically, is this the strongest roster since 2010? A big turnover there with Shawn, Undertaker, Batista, Jericho and Triple H bowing out full time. Reigns, Rhodes, Punk, Gunther, Rollins, Orton, Owens, Zayn, Ripley and McIntyre as the top pushed stars, an over midcard with guys like Bron, Jacob, Priest, Jey and Solo clearly positioned as future main eventers, and two all time greats and global superstars in Cena and Rock ready to return. It's insane to me that era where it looked like they were prepping men like Adam Cole, Alister Black and Ricochet to be top guys.

Liked the much needed DIY heel turn. Both are far superior heels and this should be a good reign with the Profits and MCMG chasing. Sabin and Shelley haven't found their footing as characters yet (it's certainly in them) so hopefully chasing for a bit helps that. I'd be building towards a TLC between the 3 teams at 'Mania personally, let it marinate with DIY now refusing the shots, getting DQ'ed in title defences etc.

The Bloodline look more dangerous without Tonga Loa, and I'd look at keeping him out of it and relegating him to JTTS status. He doesn't have it, at all. Tama Tonga looks a threat when he's not around. Nakamura's new character, while not necessarily original, absolutely works. He's gone mad and like his idol Muta has embraced the dark side.

Women's division is finally working for me. That Bianca/Piper match was great. Tournament has been good. Hope Chelsea beats Michin in the final.

Owens vs. Rhodes is a great rivalry. The tease of Owens going after Zayn eventually and his justification of his actions while still being a prick is his best work in a long time. I don't think I've ever known a WWE that has felt so connected - Cody, Punk and Sami alienating the guys that have been fighting against Roman and The Usos for years by teaming with them makes it this immersive 'universe' where the motivations make sense and the potential alliances and rivalries that spawn from it. It's at the point where The Rock doesn't really feel needed beyond setting up something down the line with a buzzworthy appearance here and there. We've got Roman, Rhodes, Cena, Punk, McIntyre, Orton, Gunther, Rollins, Owens and Zayn. Pair the 10 of them off in five singles for 'Mania and you've got gold.

Chelsea winning is the way to go. Have her build the belt against Bayley, Naomi, Michin etc before losing it to a NXT upstart like Giulia or Sol Ruca. Hopefully the midcard titles serve as a vital bridge to those call ups, as so many have been lost in the shuffle the last few years.

Roman's first TV match in over 2 years! Big deal. That first Netflix show feels a big deal.

Strowman's done as a top guy, but he's a good guy to have around the midcard. Quick Rumble build as a threat won't hurt.

What happened to Alex Shelley? 20 years ago he felt like one of the true all rounders on the independents, and now he feels like his backstage work is lifted straight out of the Smackdown vs. Raw story modes. Strange how his charisma seems to have faded, and sad because I think if he hit the big time earlier he could have developed like his peers did. MCMG can go but they need to show way more personality.

I love how every new Jacob Fatu staredown gets a pop. He has it, whatever it is. I'll say it many times over but I love that him and Bron are able to grow before getting the monster push with the main event scene being so stacked. Between those 2, Trick Williams and particularly Oba Femi, the future looks good. If I'm H I'm teasing Jacob/Bron in the next couple of Rumbles before pulling the trigger, as if they develop properly that's a future main event match.

I'm not sure about the show being 3 hours going forward, but in fairness it's more of a problem when the show is shit. The issue is AEW's presence has set NXT back and there's not much male talent main roster ready beyond the two above. So keeping the roster fresh may be a trouble.

I'm curious how many people actually watch the full 3 hours straight through. It's not bad when you can fast forward commercials. I used to do the same when taping Raw and Nitro back in the day especially 3 hour Nitros. But as a teenager you didn't really have much going on so to some fans it might not be a big deal. The reality is like you said it's more of a problem when the show is shit. You get enough solid wrestling mixed with cool angles it'll be less painful. 3 hours is a lot idgaf what we're talking about. Sitting through 3 hours of football, a movie, it's not something I want to do 52 weeks a year.

The 3rd hour has always been the lowest drawing hour. It's purely done for revenue. The roster size argument doesn't translate when you notice how many people don't get that much tv time. There are people getting 4-5 segments on a 3 hour Raw and then we're like "wow, why is so and so not on tv for the last month?"

I want the talent to have every opportunity to improve, so the more ring time and TV time, the better. With WWE holding fewer and fewer live (untelevised) events (aka house shows) now, it will be harder and harder for talent to develop. Or worse, if they disappoint early when they come to the main roster, it will be harder for them to recover. Talent like Karrion Kross almost went the Cameron Grimes route - so hopefully he will get a chance to redeem himself. Liv Morgan took forever to get comfortable with her character and her ring work. LA Knight was lucky he wasn't stuck being Max DuPree for long.

They needed to move off Nia for 'Mania season. She's not bad, but she's not that level, nor has the potential. Tiffany does. She'll be mixing it with Charlotte, Rhea, Bianca or Becky at the big show and it'll be interesting to see if they're ready to fully commit to her or whether that's a bit soon. The fans have really taken to her though and it's important they follow through on the next generation of women pretty soon. I'm over the briefcase thing and how the winner generally loses a bunch before cashing in, but it always seems to get a huge pop. The Theory year should have killed it, but it's helped Tiffany.

This year was a good one creatively. The men's one had the symmetry with Drew cashing in during a match with the same players from the last cash in, with the first same night fail. The one nighter had been an overused trope so mixing it up worked. And I don't think there's been a champion/briefcase holder team yet either until Nia and Tiffy. I guess the issue was more of a creative one than a concept. Epitomised the 'Brock Lesnar turns up and wins' late Vince McMahon era. It definitely helped Priest get over.

I wonder if the extra hour will have them be more aggressive pursuing talent from elsewhere. The men's division in NXT just isn't creating enough to sustain the strong turnover you'd like to see on the main roster, and once Oba and Trick are up it's a pretty shallow talent pool. With AEW's popularity as a live touring brand tapering off I imagine it becomes very tempting to jump at contract season. Particularly with the live event schedule very much favouring quality over quantity nowadays. Unless you're getting a push, there's not much upside there anymore.

The best thing WWE has done over the past year is give the heels/tweeners understandable motives for being aggrieved and losing faith in people they once saw as allies. McIntyre, Owens, and Rollins have all been given space to lay out their problems. It’s so good that they truly believe what they say, and can evidence it, rather than just being generic villains.

I wonder how many more twists they can get out of the Bloodline. Every time it threatens to get stale, there’s another return or another combination of faces aligning to keep it going.

It’ll be interesting to see who is paired with who for Mania. You have half a dozen match-ups before you factor in Cena and potentially Rock and there’s a chance of some getting lost in the shuffle.

I think the uncertainty of Rock's motives this past Monday and his NXT promo really add another layer that we've all for the most part been waiting for: The Rock v. Roman Reigns. I mean, the Bloodline 2.0 can't just be gone now that Solo lost to Roman. We could still see Heyman turn on Roman, siding with Solo to help get those guys over more. WWE has so many different avenues they could take with so many people it's actually pretty refreshing as a fan of 35+ years to not think I know it all, or that I've seen it all.

Smackdown tomorrow, imo, will be the most significant SD in a very long time. I hope at least. The WWE are going to want to make people jump through hoops to watch NXT and SD still on cable, no Hulu affiliation, so you're either watching it live or DVR in the States. I heard the brand split is going to be very relaxed for a bit and that makes me think tomorrow is going to have some big developments, maybe some new feud kicks off, we'll probably get some more "I'm in the Rumble!" segments. I hate those. I always liked not knowing who was in the Rumble.

Bit of a filler show this one, with the main theme being Jacob Fatu's presence on it. It's great how protected he is around the big stars, still getting wins in main events amidst the chaos.

This potentially has to be the most stacked Rumble match line ups of all time. The very top tier (Punk, Roman, Cena) is as good a group of favourites since probably 2001. Encompassing the other recent Wrestlemania main eventers (Rollins, Drew, Sami, the Usos) and it's 2010 level. But then you add the 3 new Bloodline guys, Knight, Logan Paul, Priest and Breakker and you've got a great cast with all the stories involved. Throw in Balor, Dirty Dom, Rey, Sheamus, New Day, Nakamura, Strowman, and a couple of surprises and it's an all timer.

Decided to watch all the WWE shows this week so we tuned into Smackers. It was decent but definitely a bit underwhelming and predictable. The only thing that really stood out was the women's fourway which was MOTN and I really couldn't guess who would win. Nothing really hooked me for next week, either. Planning to tune into RAW and NXT next week but I don't think I'll bother with SD.

The only thing about SD that intrigues me for next week is if Jacob and the functional Tonga rebuild a Bloodline of new members, boot out Solo like Solo did to Jimmy last year. Last night's show was a bit of a drag too often, but did have its high points. Just felt like overuse of Jimmy and Cody with some people absent and expecting to stretch that to be an interesting 3 hour program?

I feel like some in NXT are long-past ready that should be included.

I'm guessing Trick will be up and resuming his story with Melo after the Rumble. They have great chemistry and it would help both out. I've started enjoying Hayes in this backstage instigator role, after a forgettable start on the main roster it feels like he's finding his footing as a character.

If you look at the physical conditions of Tanahashi, Naito and Ibushi, you have to respect Nakamura absolutely going through the motions the last 7 years or so. Wealthy, happy and healthy. Hugely respected within the industry. No rumblings of poor attitude or behaviour. Flips between dark Shinsuke and charismatic Shinsuke every couple of years to freshen up. He's not somebody I look forward to watching anymore, but a legend of the game.

It does feel there's space for more women on Smackdown - feels like the ladies in the 4-way, Tiffany, Candice and Jade have been scrapping all year. Does need a Charlotte, Becky, Bliss or NXT talent to shake things up. The Rumble itself, unless people debut/return before the PPV, is destined for a surprise win.

In the UK, on Netflix, it's actually 3 hours as well. As in, we get no ads. Before, with it being live at 1am, watching the next day and cutting out the ads, 80 minutes was quite palatable.

I like Joe Tess, but he lacks enthusiasm. His reaction to Cody and Kevin going through the table at the end of last week's show was interesting to say the least. Like he was calling an arm drag.
