So about that Mia Yim/Slapjack news...I was just on WWE's site and they're both still listed as RAW superstars and she's still Reckoning. So if they did move, it didn't stick.

I'd book a triple threat, Roman vs. Seth vs. Cesaro, with Cesaro getting the win from pinning Seth. Will give Cesaro a championship reign. He can lose it back to Roman in a one on one scenario later.

If they didn't do it for Bryan or Edge, I highly doubt they're doing that for Cesaro.

    Positives:

    -Daniel Bryan putting over Cesaro.
    -Bryan/Cesaro v Uso/Rollins
    -Owens v Crews, the match
    -Bayley, she is awesome.
    -Roman freaking Reigns.

    Negatives:

-Tamina v Nia. Nobody gives a shit.
    -Owens v Crews, the ending
    -Sami Zayn
    -Pat McAfee
-the wrong Mysterio getting the pinfall W
-Cesaro not taking a shot at Reigns after being told to shut up.

    Solid show.

Off-topic but sort of related: the angry shouty verbally abusive heel act towards the poor backstage female announcer is fucking dumb and has forever bugged me. Can you get your point across without being a neanderthal?

I was not a fan of the Nigerian Nail. I'm not a fan of this shit with Commander Azeeze as it is. It makes no fucking sense and just feels like another one of those "Hey we're doing this on Raw, let's have a Smackdown version as well!" Like Paige debuted with Absolution then the next night Riott Squad debuted.

Not many matches, lots of promos. Love or hate that, it didn't matter because they fueled it all with a great in-show build with a banger main event.

So Reigns finally debuted his new theme? Was expecting it Mania, kind of a random time to do it tonight. Very curious to hear it.

EDIT: They posted it on YouTube. Damn, that is badass as all hell. Better than i expected. It slaps.

    Positives:

-The six person tag match, Montez Ford is one athletic MFer.
-The IC title match. I hope that’s the end of Big E/Crews because as much as I like both wrestlers, they each need to build some momentum. I would also like to see Big E get some new ring gear.
-Paul E. Would love to see some more members added to The Family over the Summer because he could do wonders for them as their mouthpiece. Murphy/the unmasked Slapjack/Ricochet?
-The new Roman Reigns entrance music.
-Roman Reigns’ work as a heel, simply masterful.
    -The Universal championship match.
-Cesaro trying to make the save.
    -Cole/McAfee

    Negatives:

    -More Bayley mic time please.
-That women’s tag match. So boring.
    -No Sasha Banks.

A very solid show. Crazy to believe that RAW and SmackDown are produced by the same company...

Roman's new entrance is great. Reminds me a bit of the Succession theme. Makes sense given that show is about seizing control over a family dynasty. Boss.

I'll have to check out Reigns/Bryan.

bryan/reigns was really good but the commercials bothered me a lot more than commercials during a tv match usually do. seemed like there were a LOT.

Stoked that Roman's got his new theme up and running finally... finally! How long did he roll w/ the Shield music? 8-9 years? Insane.

In my mind's ear, I imagine Roman having a theme like "Fatal" by RZA and you know what it kind of sounds like it to me. Couldn't be happier w/ how Roman has turned out. He's come out of some of the worst and most forced booking in recent years and now he's arguably the best thing in wrestling today.

Yeah, nuts. I wonder how many theme changes someone like Austin had in the time it's taken Reigns to change his theme once.

If you want to know why I’ve been pumping The Riott Squad’s tires so hard, Liv Morgan posted a training video on her Instagram. Very impressive stuff, Ms. Daddio has clearly been putting the time and effort in...

I honestly think that Liv can be one of the next big women’s stars: she can talk, has the look, is very under-rated in the ring. Her taking the strap off Bianca at Survivor Series has the potential to be amazing.

I’ll never forget that bump she took a couple months back outside the ring into the guard rail (want to say it was a SmackDown match vs The Botch Sisters). Liv committed, yo.

It was against Bayley on Feb. 12.

If it works it works. Austin really only changed his theme a couple times. Shawn Michaels has been coming out to the same song for 27 years. It doesn't really work NOW lol, but thankfully it wasn't like the 40 theme changes poor Cesaro has been through in just the last 4-5 years.

What makes Roman Reigns and other heels more popular these days is that I truly believe many people want to be that kind of power-wielding asshole. I think there's a little bit of that in all of us but I notice it more than ever.

It makes you wonder just how many people were actually FANS of Mr. McMahon for example. I was only a teenager when that AE boom happened. My boss at the time was my mom so I wasn't exactly wanting to Stone Cold Stun this woman, so I think my anger toward Vince was more about how my teachers were or older relatives.

I didn't HATE Vince, I was JEALOUS. I wanted that power, or even a fraction of it.....I was like Sean Bean in LOTR for a moment. Maybe that's why I wasn't a big fan of Stone Cold. Truthfully I was more of a Mick Foley mark. Probably my favorite, and there was that moment as Dude Love where he too wanted that power even if it meant selling out for a brief period before waking the fuck up.

I really wanted to see how Liv would have progressed as a singles star. Unfortunately, I don't think Vince would ever see the potential in her. Considering she got relegated to a tag team again, I'd say it's confirmed.

    You mean this bump ?

Eh, I wouldn't say something is confirmed. I mean, you're showing us a clip of someone (Bayley) who was in a tag-team the majoirty of the last 2 years. Liv isn't that good. She was gone for awhile, came back and worked some dogshit angle that took her 3-4 steps backwards.

Her being in a tag-team could simply be that is the best place for her NOW and maybe in a year or so she'll be ready to go out on her own. She was definitely 200000% someone who was called up too early and it shows. She's been on the main roster almost 4 years and she's just NOW finally looking like she can bump.

In a perfect world Liv would've spent at least 2 years in NXT actually working on tv and getting experience. Right now, teaming up with a vet like Ruby isn't a bad thing. Maybe this is what she really wants to do and since they lack actual tag-teams, Vince has no issue with it. She's still mad young and for all we know she's about to call it a day and live on the farm with Bo Wyatt.

I disagree that Liv only just started learning how to bump. She's made her opponents moves look good for years. Back when the Riott Squad was a trio, Liv was the one in there most of the time getting thrown around and taking the beat down and she looked good doing it. She's ramped up her bump game recently, but it was always something she excelled at.

She sold when she was forced to, like when the Bella kicked her a few times in the face lol. BRUTAL.

Look how careless Bayley was in that spot. Imagine if that was Nia Jax doing the same spot with Liv. Meltzer's bff Bryan THE GOAT Alvarez would've been giving us another great tutorial of how to work due to all his vast experience in the barns and trampoline feds across the US.

Yes, my post went completely over your head. Luckily I don't post to see if good ol' VHS understands it or not.

    Positives:

    -Roman’s new music
-Roman as a heel. The smirk, Paul E handing him his title.
-Jimmy Uso’s return and alignment(?) with The Family
    -Teddy Long
    -Cesaro getting over.
    -Rollins and Reigns
-Carmella’s in-ring work tonight, albeit in a short match.
-Bayley. One of the best heels in the company, playa.
    -Dom getting the W.
    -Kayla Braxton.
    -The ten man tag.

    Negatives:

-Not a single superstar comes out to even the odds for Cesaro during his match? K...
-The Botch Sisters f/ Reginald. Muted.
    -Tamina v Reginald? Ugh.

How is it possible that RAW and SmackDown can be so different in quality and be produced by the same company?

Roman getting DQ’ed against Cesaro after trying everything a la Austin/Angle Summerslam then Cesaro winning the next PPV blow-off. Would love it if it went down like that.

I'm not optimistic that Ceraso is anything more than a filler feud/match for Roman but my god, these two have the potential to fucking KILL IT together. Hoping it's a few matches like the Owens feud was so they can really put in some work. Potential for some very special stuff, i reckon.

Roman DQ but gets swing at the end of the match to set up the PPV rematch later.

I’m not convinced they’ll have Roman give that sway to him either but it would be fucking glorious.

Like I said with the Mania triple threat, that was the best (most likely) opportunity to take the title off Roman. One of the other two takes the pinfall, Reigns keeps his heat and can chase the face champ until he regains it.

I don’t see Cesaro going over Reigns in a singles match. A triple threat (at MITB?) with a Jimmy Uso/Kevin Owens/random third added? Maybe. If none of Edge/Bryan/Owens can go over Reigns in a singles championship match, Cesaro sure as hell isn’t going to.

Whomever does pin Roman in a title match gets the rocket strapped to their back. And frankly, other than a built up Big E at SummerSlam/Survivor Series, I don’t see anyone on the roster worthy of that massive rub. If this were six months ago, that list would have been Big E and Keith Lee, but alas...

Paul fucking Heyman, that dude is golden.

A brilliant business mind, a definite WWE HOFer (for whatever that’s worth), the 1A to VKM’s 1 so far as wrestling promoters go. I’d even entertain the argument that he’s better than Vince because Heyman has done more with less.

The Mt. Rushmore of promoters: Vinny Mac, Paul E, Dana White, Don King. Prove me wrong.

It’s fairer to keep that to wrestling promoters rather than include the likes of Don King and Dana White as there are tons of more successful sports promoters outside of wrestling.

I wouldn’t even classify Heyman as a successful promoter. A creative genius but not a promoter. Hell he lost money lol.

Not really a fan of Roman's new music. It sounds a little too cheap. Like someone just got their first free midi pack to make music.

    Positives:

-Roman has been scheming and waiting for his chance to go full-blown heel. Killing it.
    -Jimmy Uso spitting fire.
-Congrats to Nattie/Tamina for winning gold, now show me something; give me a solid two month reign before you put over The Riott Squad.
    -the IC title chaos
-Rey Mysterio, in his mid-40s, is still a very good worker.
    -Shinsuke getting some shine.
-Cesaro looking like a million bucks.

    Negatives:

    -the medal ceremony

Very impressive show, enjoyed pretty much everything except for one short segment. Kudos, SmackDown...

Roman is on fire, but both Jimmy and Jey also shined in the opening segment.

Tamina/Nattie winning is overdue - their chase went on for a long time, but the last few weeks were remarkably better. It was time for Nia/Shayna to drop the titles. I want to say that Pat McAfee did a marvelous job on commentary - his emotion and excitement just felt more genuine than we've seen in a long while.

Putting a title change on free TV, but not on a PPV, added to the feel of "anything can happen"

The Bloodline were sprinkled across the show in a less emphatic way, and a threat finally made their presence felt on Smackdown.

RIK BOOGS BABY! Yeah! Nice to see him seemingly get the call up while virtually surpassing NXT altogether. Damn impressive guitar shredding. Dig the pairing with Nak, could be good stuff.

Super stoked that Black is back and kicking things off (see what I did there?) with Big E.

I feel like Big E is the wrong dude for Aleister to be feuding with, seeing as both men need victories to keep (in Black’s case, start) momentum.

Big E, for all intents and purposes, is being groomed as a future Universal champion, sooner rather than later.

Personally, I’d have Black team with another forgotten soul from catering (Murphy/Slapjack/a NXT callup) and have them bully the Mysterios through the Summer. Rey and Dom can bump like hell for Black as he gets over as a solid midcard heel, you create another legit tag team for when roster move season happens next.

I have no problem with E losing a feud with Black, when looking at E’s trajectory. E doesn’t need to be pushed fast at this point. He can help elevate others, which he’s doing, and still stay on a path that works for him.

Big E's the type of character that can lose and it's fine. He's about postivity and a good babyface is about the struggle and bouncing back. he can come out on the losing end of a feud with Black better for it, i think, and move on to bigger, better things down the road. Black, on the other hand, needs to look like a killer after fizzling out on RAW.

We've wondered who will eventually dethrone the tribal chief and maybe it's someone not currently on the main roster. What if it's an NXT call up? Then I got to thinking, what if Finn Balor comes back? They're about to hit the road again and him coming out to a live crowd would make for a great return. He's done everything in NXT so why keep him there? I know it's a long shot, but Finn never lost the Universal Title so he's already got that going for him.

The way Reigns has been booked, I wouldn't have him lose for quite a while or I don't see the urgency in having him lose for a while. Character and presentation wise, Bálor would be a great fit on Smackdown but I think he's desperately needed on Raw (sadly). If he went to Smackdown, under that timeline I presented, it might increase the odds that he suffers some roller coaster-like booking and due to age, character, prominence he needs to be ushered in well. Despite the crappy booking, he would be a big breath of fresh air on Raw. Maybe it lines up where he's on Raw for a long while and still has a crossover match with Reigns but that's not necessary.

Does Black need to look like a killer at the expense of Big E?

I have to strongly disagree that Big E somehow has this status of being able to lose to Apollo Crews, to Aleister Black, and it not affect him. Sure, in New Day in the tag division where he's a 90 time champ-that works. They can be John Cena and take that L. Big E who has barely had shit going on but wrestling Apollo Crews for the last 4-5 months can't afford to be taking L's and coming out on the bottom of feuds.

He's someone that fans have been wanting to be something bigger for years and no offense to Black but like Tyson said, he should be in something totally different. It's a lose-lose for both. Big E loses, he just lost ANOTHER feud. Black loses it might derail whatever momentum he has.

In a perfect world Big E goes over Black but Black looks strong in defeat. Maybe he gets a couple W's against Big E and then Big E wins the blowoff.

When you put it that way, RAW is in need of a fresh babyface and Balor would fill that role nicely. I wouldn't mind Sheamus doing an open challenge which leads to Finn showing up and getting the shock win in a short match. I'd also be fine with Balor being the one to finally beat Lashley. I don't have anything against McIntyre, but he Almighty still has gas in the tank. I'd keep the belt on him at least until SummerSlam.

I feel the same way about Big E as I do about Cameron Grimes. Both guys can lose and still bounce right back without losing their spot. If this was Raw then Black would attack Big E one week then have a fuckin poetry reading from his "home" the next week then come back in 3 weeks and crush Elias for no reason.

They need new guys, for sure. Taken as a slight or not (it's not, but it's a rough fact), it's gotten to the point where Kofi is being brought back into the mix because the booking has been so bad on Raw. Bálor is going to run that risk on Raw but his character is totally refreshed and hopefully he's booked as a top guy. The good thing is that both brands seem to take care of the top guys, so that would bode well for him as long as he's treated as that.

To be fair we're talking apples and oranges with those 2. Grimes is a lower card comedy act on NXT. Big E is on the rise to be a main eventer but maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I see more value in Big E to where he shouldn't be used as a guy to get lesser over talent to the next level when he himself is not in a position to do that.

    Tag-team, yes. Singles, no.

    Positives:

-I’ve got a lot of time for Street Profits v Usos.
    -Bianca v Carmella
    -Roman
    -Rick Boog’s Nakamura entrance.

    Negatives:

-That was not a very good frog splash by Tamina.
-Don’t like the Riott Squad being jobbed out like that to put over Nattie/Tamina.
    -Seth Rollins’ act
-Crews v Owens, the ending in particular.
-The insistence on trying to make the Mysterios even bigger underdogs.

    Underwhelming, per recent SmackDown standards.

I haven’t caught the episode in question but that’s the MO with the Mysterio team and they’re going to milk it for all it’s worth. Dom a good talent with potential but no prob keeping him under the learning tree.

As for why Tamina’s still relevant and holding the titles with Natalya....answers on a postcard.

Incredibly surprising that there was no follow up to a big angle from last week as Aleister Black and Big E weren't on the show and were barely acknowledged on the show.

    Positives:

-The tracksuit with Roman Reigns’ Jumpman-esque “Superman Punch” logo is such a brilliant touch. Whomever ultimately takes the strap off Reigns will be permanently made as a main eventer.
-Roman Reigns has jumped to the next level with this heel act, those acting classes are clearly paying off.
-Mysterios v Usos (both matches) up to the finish.
-“Does it matter anyways?” Holy. Shit.
-Liv Morgan bringing it in the ring in that very short match (and on the mic), a shame she didn’t go over. Eventually the company needs to give Ms. Daddio a chance to run with the ball in an extended singles feud.
-I’ve been wanting to see this fire from Bianca for a while, so great to see. The happy go lucky cheap pop face act really doesn’t work when you have gold on your shoulder.
-McAfee marking the fuck out for Nakamura/Boogz.
-Shinsuke going over in this year’s King of the Ring tourney and taking the IC title from Crews later this Summer please and thank-you.
-Apollo Crews has really stepped his game up since his meeting in Reigns’ locker room, I would love to have them expand on that event.
-If there’s going to be a superstar shakeup this Summer, I think Kevin Owens would make for a great addition to the red brand main event scene.

    Negatives:

-Seth Rollins agrees to a sit down interview then refuses to answer any questions. K.
-Carmella’s had this gimmick for how long and we still don’t have a reason to give a shit about her. Good luck, Carmella 2.0 I mean Eva Marie.
-Love me some heel Bayley but that Joker act ain’t it, boss.

That was a very solid show, 8/10.

Owens made Crews look like he finally belonged, and Crews delivered. They've made mistakes in the past when elevating heels - too often they only give them cheap cheat or interference wins, but both guys deserve a lot of credit. I am always down for more Sami vs. Kevin.

Since Big E was missing this week, I'd love to see him chewing out Pearce or DeVille next week wondering why he got left out this week, while they gave Rey/Dom vs. Usos two matches.

They have to be careful, because Rick Boogs is becoming more interesting than Shinsuke Nakamura. McAfee is great playing the role of the entire WWE Universe.

I completely loved Reigns all night long. Everything in the opening promo worked - how after listening to wise counsel he understood it really will be good for the family when they hold both his title and the tag titles, then how he easily switched into the "You said you'd win, so you better win" made it a little obvious that they wouldn't. But then the ref missing that Uso had his shoulder up was done well, Then Roman's disappointment - calling Jey Jimmy and the "Does it matter anyways?" was awesome, but what I liked most was how they don't overplay reactions - they keep going with the "you still got time tonight" was a great setup. Roman's acting lessons have paid off, but I'm thinking both Uso's have also improved a ton, especially in the backstage storytelling segments.

If any fans were doubting Reigns as a heel, they end with him pummeling the top face tag team on his own, to end the show. This was fantastic, for me mostly because it opens a few options for next week. Character wise, either Rey or Dom can believably challenge Roman on their own next week for his actions this week - they can of course take a beating and explain their tag partner is not cleared due to Roman's action this week.

Or maybe Roman wins the tag titles on his own, and because he's such a humble guy doing his best for the family, he will present them to the Usos. Maybe Roman tells Jey to be in his corner next week, and Roman wins them on his own, but Jey and Roman become tag champs - leaving Jimmy out alone.

Not sure what they are doing with Rollins.

Otis and Gable's segments with the Street Profits seemed only like filler to me. It's a bit of a wonder how they both survived the cuts.

A miracle Otis made it through the cuts?

wasn’t it just a year ago he was being touted as the ‘new Dusty Rhodes’ by half the experts on this site?

And who is that dreadful ‘guitar player’ who is coming out with Nakamura? Just awful lol.

honestly, SD has been good, much better than the unwatchable RAW but if you’re going to smash objects into Dominik’s head, somebody tell him not to stick his hands a foot in front of his face, to the point where all you see is hands and not even head or face. It kinda ruins the effect of the shot.

Reigns ‘Tribal Chief’, as noted is great.

On the other hand, if I never hear Bailey yell “ding dong” again, I can die happy.

That’s probably passed me by and does explain it somewhat but still with that they’ve made Shinsuke a joke and he’s fighting with Corbin over a bloody crown. Shinsuke was a guy who won the Rumble, challenged AJ at Mania, was on the verge of challenging Roman until the Adam Pearce shit then gave his spot to Cesaro (nothing against him lotta respect!). However they use Shimsuke so much better.

He (Nakamura) suffers from Shayna-itis. He is a guy that is more than capable in the ring but they don't know what to do with him. For better or worse, Shayna needed a life preserver in the form of Nia Jax and Nakamura is getting his in Boogs. Shayna was going to be DOA without Nia and got a lot of mileage out of the tag team. According to most reports, Nakamura was always going to be a placeholder in relation to the stuff that happened in January. Cesaro was working through his contract negotiations, per reports, so Nakamura was the proxy to pass the time. Cesaro re-signed, so he went back to and took the role that was originally meant for him. Without Nia, Shayna is in a world of hurt with this Alexa stuff but live crowds will eat up Nakamura and Boogs so he should be okay for a little while.

I think Nakamura will do better with Boogs than either would fair on their own.

Shinsuke has probably top 5 in-ring ability, and because of it, he works better as a face than as a heel. Despite his "Me no speak Engrish" heel work, I think he will be better off with a front man like Rik Boogs, and playing up on the Rock Star gimmick seems like a good fit for live audiences.

As for the comparison the Shayna, I think it is fair as far as they weren't sure what to do with her either. But I think Shayna will do better in anything they give her with Alexa Bliss - its the stuff with Lily the rag doll that is cringeworthy.

Regular Alexa Bliss, sure. Female Fiend version of Alexa Bliss....nope. We have no reason to believe creepy Alexa is going away anytime soon. It won't do Shayna any favors and it feels like the odds are solid that Shayna will be in limbo after that.

Is creepy Female Fiend version of Alexa Bliss a face or a heel? Bliss is pure entertainment, either way. Since Shayna has always been a heel, even though with her tag run with Nia, they kind of gave her the face role by getting justified in her annoyance with Reginald. The fact is that they are finally giving Shayna a story to develop her character, and they are putting her in with arguably the best overall actress that WWE has on the roster. I still want to hope they can come up with chicken salad instead of chicken shit here.

The question regarding Nakamura is, when does he wrestle Corbin for the KOTR title? That has to be coming soon.

    Positives:

    -Jimmy Uso
    -the tag match
    -Liv Morgan getting the W.
    -some character development for Otis
-Roman with the subtle “Simmer down” to Rey…holy shit that was awesome.
-I don’t care if there was a crash pad outside the ring, huge props to Dom for that powerbomb out of the ring spot
-I’m down with the Mysterios bumping their asses off for the next couple months to get Roman even more over as a mega heel; it buys time for Reigns’ SummerSlam contender (Cesaro/Nakamura/Rey) to be built up.

    Negatives:

    -Bayley and Rollins
-Boogs not actually using the guitar
    -announce the KOTR tournament already
-King Corbin’s KOTR win was two years ago

    A pretty good show, 7/10.

No more Monday/Friday recaps for me. While the good stuff is good, there's too much of the same things happening each week on these shows so the recaps seem pretty redundant and probably boring to read.

I'll be around Tuesday's and for the PPVs. Thanks for those who read these.

Not quite a break up as such but Miz had her swapped to a different show to further that storyline and they just dropped Otis/Mandy after that.

Supremely fantastic work from Reigns on the show. From showing the menacing anger to start the show, the prickish nature of accepting he'd have to go to the Uso's locker room, the manipulating of Jimmy, and then basically telling Rey Mysterio to know his role as he finished his entrance...it was all top notch. This is giving Mysterio a chance to cut some good promos, which he has within him.

If you didn't see the social media clip of KO and E, seek it out because it was funny.

Ding Dong, Hello should have been dreadful but the fact that Bayley and Rollins sold it as heavy as they did made it work.

That powerbomb to the outside on Dom was pretty sick. Dom’s taken some hellish bumps lately.

    Mysterio/Reigns should be a classic.
