So weird that it was a complete afterthought replacement when they've known about that title change 10 days. They didn't even remotely reheat Strowman! Right call though, you can't keep beating a man like that before he's completely damaged goods.

I hate this. I hate everything about this. Yet, they just ribbed Goldberg with that limo spot, and that was class.

This was a pretty good show in a gym until right now.

This is like somebody popped on a B-horror movie instead of having a main event.

When Taker teleported behind Styles on the digger I thought I was going to be sick with laughter. Amazing job.

    10/10 for cinematography.

When Jim Cornette watches that match for his podcast, you'll be able to see the explosion from orbit when his head explodes.

The video game music changing for the different level of henchmen was spectacular as well. Can't wait to rewatch tomorrow,, absolute comedy gold.

The show, all being told, was pretty good. And only 3 hours! Oh how I missed condensed, snappy wrestling shows.

I really enjoyed AJ/Taker. Had western and horror elements with a bit of a feel of Broken Universe.

That was a class second half. Proper concise show that felt like it flew by after the first few. Everything from Bryan/Zayn was enjoyable and felt like it took advantage of the current situation. Braun/Goldberg was kinda meh, but worth it for the surprise, I think. It was so short it didn't matter.

There are going to be a lot of people who will bitch about that main event. But it was legit the best way to have the scenario. Aging Taker who can't consistently go anymore? No crowd to add to it? Make THAT, give some money to Matt Hardy, and be proud of making something that was just fun as hell to watch, and basically subverted the weird, awkwardness of a WrestleMania main event with no crowd.

Putting this "match" aside I still think Taker/AJ can steal the show at Summerslam assuming things will be back to normal by then.

And I liked Taker's attire, it was much cooler than the plain tank with the plain leather pants.

after watching that i want to see undertaker have a real match even less than i ever have before. he looked 15 years younger in that. no need to see him try to have a match in extremely limited physical condition again.

Word. He should be free from bumping.
Actually, he should just have a "meet me in the graveyard" clause if he is to wrestle again.

Assuming all the shit going on wasn't going on, I don't think an in-ring match between these two would be half as good as this one was. Solid all-around show minus the Elias/Corbin one. Ducked out for a bit, not interested in either of them.

Yeah... but you know he's going to wrestle again and the best chance of him having a decent match and not dying is to do it with AJ. He needs to avoid matches with guys that are big and over 50.

Yeah, I want a Boneyard match every Wrestlemania. It can be the new Streak. Mock the great man's wife and call him old, you're gonna have to settle it in the Boneyard. Compete with the telekinesis. Find counters to the pyro. Bring superior henchmen. Who can stop the Deadman?

So does AJ come back with a haircut, dressed in his TNA shorts, completely clueless about wha happened?
Will he be the new "deadman"?

Even in a pre-taped match, shot like a movie, Undertaker couldn't get his foot all the way up for a big boot.

Which, looking back, makes it even more amazing that he used to get that boot up every week. It's great that he got to do this movie; I wasn't looking forward to AJ vs Take at all...

The previous WWE attempts at this sort of thing were admittedly pretty disastrous (House of Horror Match, New Day vs. Wyatt Family at the Wyatt Compound).
Much to my surprise they pulled this off with the Bone Yard Match.

The show started really bad with the women's tag and Elias vs. Corbin, but then things got better in a hurry. Becky/Shayna was good but a little short. Sami and Bryan had a really good match, having a couple guys at ringside made a huge difference. The Ladder Match was excellent, the guys just busted their asses and took some crazy bumps. KO and Rollins crushed it, Owens jumping off the Wrestlemania sign was fucking insane. Strowman vs. Goldberg was even shorter than I was expecting. Maybe beating Goldberg in two minutes can heat Strowman up? Might be the only thing that could possibly do it at this point.

And then the Bone Yard Match blew away all expectations. Loved the whole thing: the setting, the way it was shot, the music, the performances. Way, way better than any recent Taker match. Taker riding in and out on his bike to the Metallica song was absolutely fucking badass. Just a wonderful surprise of a match.

Two nights is very welcome and should be the standard going forward. Two three hour shows are so much more watchable than a five and a half hour show like we got last year.

I really enjoyed the boneyard match. Not like a Hardy thing that's so bad it's good, but legit really really enjoyed it. The glove at the end was the only thing I thought was so bad it's good.

Taker has 20 more years of boneyard matches.

Really good first night of Mania. I went into this with low expectations but man, it just got better and better as the night went on.

    Didn't watch the Kick-off.

Was really glad Gronk wasn't all over the show 'cuz he's a doofus.

Opening Women's tag was ok at best but nothing special. Not really PPV quality let alone Mania quality.

    Skipped Elias vs. Corbin.

Lynch vs. Baszler was solid while it lasted but seemed to end abruptly and before hitting that higher gear. The finish was also pretty lame as we've seen it before and Baszler ought to know better and how to counter that shit by now. Not really a good look for Baszler overall coming out of this.

Zayn vs. Bryan was quite enjoyable. Love how the crowdless shows really highlight the trashtalk and allow for the guys to show more character/personality and this was a prime example of that. Did how Bryan's elevated Gulak and is now helping bring Zayn to a higher level, as well. Good stuff.

Ladder match delivered the goods. Easily MOTN at this point in the show. Great showing by all three guys with some nice spots. Very creative finish.

Rollins vs. Owens Part I was fine enough but man, the DQ finish was some heavy bullshit at first...but the restart to a no-DQ match was brilliant and immediately redeemed things. Again, great trashtalking to take advantage of the quiet. Top notch big bump to make a Mania moment with the elbow off the sign. Put the two parts together and you got a damn good match.

Strowman vs. Goldberg was exactly what i expected it to be and was fine enough considering that. Shame this had no build and was a last minute change and shame about Braun's dumbass Twitter stuff or I would've popped super hard in another timeline. As it was, glad to see him finally get the belt because I do like him but certainly not the hot mark-out situation it could have been. Also, not sure Reigns vs. Goldberg would have really been any better as it'd likely have been structured exactly the same except you swap out powerslams for even more spears and a handful of Superman Punches. Maybe the title win would have had a little more oompf at least?

OH MY GOD THE BONEYARD MATCH WAS EVERYTHING. I had such low expectations, I expected it to be shit and corny but other than the camera angle switches every three goddamn seconds, it was fucking awesome. Beautifully shot on a dope set, Taker rocking an ABA/Deadman hybrid vibe and just being an actual scary-ass human being, AJ heeling it up, nice action and drama...I got sucked into it, I felt like I was watching a solid little horror/action flick. Epic and tons of fun. Very impressed. Now I'm extra curious how tomorrow's Funhouse match is going to turn out...

Very solid first night. Stoked for tomorrow's round two.

The circumstances likely robbed us of Kairi Sane coming out in a mini pirate ship. Damn. Looked like that match had only one rough patch that was edited but it was paced pretty well. Seemed obvious for the finish. Makes better use of Bliss and Cross, and I'm interested to see what happens for Sane and Asuka.

Elias/Corbin went way longer than I thought it would go. I figure the result doesn't matter much in the grand scheme because Corbin will still be Corbin and Elias has a much lower ceiling as a face.

Becky and Shayna was as physical as I thought it would be. They use that crutch finish way too many times for that specific submission, though. That match had another gear it probably could have gone to. I imagine they're not done.

More surprised with the booking of the IC match in light of what went down the night before on Smackdown. The heels got over emphatically Friday and that made you think Bryan would go over. That said, I didn't think Bryan was going to go over because he's still hitting the tail end of his full-time run.

I'm fairly curious to see how many reshoots they had, if any, for the ladder match. I knew those three guys were in a position to succeed and they did. I thought it was a great opportunity to put a spotlight on Morrison. He looked like a star over the course of the match. Funny finish as Jimmy and Kofi knew they screwed up the second the ref called for the bell.

Owens/Rollins was probably the match from the evening I really would have liked to see with a crowd most. The first phase of the match would have gotten love and the DQ result and restart would have given the crowd a wave of emotions. Owens would clearly be able to find something to dive off of and that would have been eaten up by the crowd. Fun match.

It was funny that the first photo Goldberg saw when he got out of his waiting area was Big E. Further adding respect, it was four spears, then four powerslams...never going the full five, for E haha. That just tells me they ultimately didn't want Reigns to be the one to beat The Fiend because Goldberg was straight up a transitional guy. They just wanted to put Reigns in a situation to get a pop for winning, and that was going to be easier to accomplish with Goldberg over The Fiend. Good for Strowman but it was weird that he wasn't heated up. Should be interesting to see how they move forward with him in the meantime.

Pat McAfee said it best for the Boneyard Match: An American Badass is opening up a can of whoopass on a dude from Georgia in a cemetery. Dad Jeans AJ was quite funny, and I loved how they re-did the Goldberg spot for Taker and glass. Kudos for Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, Good Brothers making the main event of Mania. Lucha Underground and The Ultimate Deletion walked so the Boneyard Match could run. So here's the question: Taker was on his last legs but did you prolong his window by having this be his new hook? If so, how could not go down the well of Taker and Sting?

Boneyard match would've been half as good if it was someone other than AJ and Taker in the match. I think AJ's heel work and Taker being a badass is what made it possible. It wasnt great, but it was way better than it should've been. And both of their personalities allowed it be that.

It’s your opinion, we won’t derail you for it because we’re generally a good community. You seem to not be so keen on the cartoonish aspect of the product. Some suspension of disbelief is required, but things like that is what entertains us and we don’t take it too seriously.

If it is not too your taste then fair enough. Hope you enjoyed some other aspects of the show because there was otherwise a lot of good in the second half of the showing that was good.

Super pumped for Braun, just wish Vince would have pulled the trigger when Strowman was white-hot 2-3 years ago.

I kind of feel bad for the dude (and Drew, if he wins tomorrow), that his biggest career accomplishment and there are no fans to witness it live; his first run at the top comes amidst the industry being completely shut down. I really hope that on the other side of this worldwide pandemic, when they start performing again in front of fans, that Braun (and Drew) get long runs (like until the Rumble) with the strap as monster heels. That said, bagging on Strowman for being booked like a joke is understandable, but him making $2M a year to be on TV every week isn’t that bad of a career; a nice heel run as champ and his career is back on fire...

    Rest of the card:

    Positives:

-BlissCross winning, those two women are very under-rated workers.
-Owens winning, dude has mega face written all over him; the kind that the company thinks Reigns (who I actually like) is.
-Morrison retaining for his team, love me some MoMiz.

    Negatives:

-A white hot heel in Styles, albeit one on his last contract, and his crew doing the job to a has-been Taker.
-This scaredy-cat heel Sami Zayn bores me, he deserves so much better.
-Cesaro being wasted as a curtain-jerker, he has the tools to be a top-notch heel IC/US champion; at the very least upper midcard.
-A tired act in Lynch going over Bazler. Give Shayna a Paul Heyman-type manager as her mouthpiece...
-Elias being forced as the babyface, when he really could be the heel that the company thinks Corbin is.

I agree with you completely. It was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. And like others have said we all have different taste and that was not for me or you apparently. It's one of those deals that people look at as being so bad that its good. Most of the positive responses to the match are that it was entertaining. Nobody (so far) has said this was Taker or AJ's best match ever. I haven't seen anyone say this match rivals Undertaker/HBK or AJ/Cena. Everything has been that it was campy, corny and laughable but entertaining. It's kind of like those Evil Dead movies, I remember as a teen reading people say it's a classic horror movie and then I watched it and thought those people must be high, drunk or have a low IQ but in reality they were just able to find some enjoyment in something that was different which isn't a bad thing.

And I think people are bored, tired or afraid of seeing Taker have matches where you feel like he might seriously injure himself and this match required almost no physical activity by Taker. Even though some of Taker's career has required a lot of suspending disbelief, this was too much for me. I'd literally watch Undertaker vs Giant Gonzalez a hundred times over before I'd watch this again. But I also knew once they made this a boneyard match that it was not going to be AJ or Taker's best match ever and it would be over the top.

I'm still holding out for a serious AJ/Taker match. I feel like this was more personal than most of Taker's feuds in the last 10 years and deserves an actual match and I question whether this was the original plan or something thrown together after the coronavirus thing. I honestly think Taker is hanging around until he has a match that he feels was good enough to end his career on and I'm hoping AJ can give him that match. He's never going to have a match like he did with Shawn at WM25 but I think he could have a match like Flair did with Shawn when he... retired kinda.

But yeah, there's nothing wrong with liking this match and there's nothing wrong with not liking it. It's entertainment, it's all subjective.

Well in the end this show was all kind of worth it for that Boneyard match. Such a blast. Honestly they should've shot more things on the show like that. Since there's no crowd to perform in front of, it's kind of a no brainer. And if nothing else, the suggestion that Taker continue doing stuff like this instead of regular in-ring matches is on point. The music throughout was great. The sound effects. Taker's ABA entrance and exit on the bike with the same Metallica song. Good Brothers were great as AJ's b-movie henchmen. Lots of fun. Obviously owes a lot to Final Deletion/Tag Team Apocalypto, etc.

Otherwise, I didn't get a huge amount out of the show. The America The Beautiful mash-up was probably the thing I enjoyed the most in the first hour. The women's tag was alright (at least, what was shown was) but went on too long for me. Elias/Corbin was dull. The segment where Corbin pushed Elias off the scaffold, causing a comic book SPLAT! was more entertaining than anything they did here. Should've had Elias return the favour. Lynch/Baszler and Bryan/Zayn were going good until they just suddenly ended with what felt like cheap wins. Really shit. They were like TV finishes. Bryan's a master though and showed it in the time he got. If given more time I think they could've done something great. The Ladder match guys, Owens and Rollins all worked hard but ultimately those matches just felt like decent cookie cutter WWE matches with no crowd. Actually that's not fair on Owens and Rollins which did stand out a bit in the end but I don't particularly care about either at the moment. Strowman/Goldberg was probably the right call. Not a lot to it. A short Reigns/Goldberg match in a stadium would've been a lot more fun.

That's a really good point actually. I feel like there's still a lot of people who kind of want to see Taker vs. Sting without, you know, actually seeing Taker vs. Sting in a ring in 2020. They could do something like this and it could be a lot of fun.

Boneyard match was dope as fuck. I really loved every thing about it. The music, the cheesy sound effects, the trash-talking, DRUIDS, everyone in their best boot-cut pants, and Taker being the American Badass again. Fucking great stuff.

rest of the show was trash, I really don’t care what anyone else. Empty-arena wrestling without a reason to just be an all-out brawl (ala actual empty arena matches) is just stupid, boring, nonsense.

Yep, this is the dream match format now. Give me Austin vs. Hogan on the broken skull ranch while you're at it.

Stop it. Just stop it. My brain can't take it.

Dream matches, presented as de facto dreams. Yes.

Was falling asleep in the first hour, but second half was so much better. Rollins and KO was very good, ladder match was fun, Boneyard match was loads of fun.

Rest was disappointing, to be fair.

My hopes are higher for tonight than they would have been though.

For me I just cant feel wrestling in an empty arena, I cant fault them for effort but the crowd is just so important and more so than I even thought, it just doesnt work for me without it.

I honestly thought KO/Seth was the best story telling match even though the Boneyard was designed to just to tell a story.

The only time the empty arena aspect really becomes noticeable to me is when they do in-ring intros or when the finish happens/bell rings and it's met with silence. During the matches themselves, I'm focused enough on the wrestling and the sound of it, the trash talk, and the commentary fill the void just fine, same with the entrance music/commentary when folks come out. So for me, there's the odd moment of silence that's jarring but otherwise, I'm not really phased. Like I said in the NXT thread earlier in the week, it actually makes the matches feel a bit more intense/legit because it's all about the contest rather than pandering and playing to the audience.

Thats one of the keys to great wrestling characters. Being able to make an ass out of yourself and not care.

See I don't agree with so bad it's good on this one.

I just thought it was good full stop.

I expect the fun house match to be so bad it's good.
