Ope
Eh, Gronk is Gronk. When you hire him to be a public persona, that's what you're going to get. And you know what you are getting as well.
Day 1 bullets:
- The theme song is tacky and the pirate ship theme is stupid.
- I can't stress how much I want Mojo and Gronk to fuck off.
- Wish Drew/Cesaro had more time.
- Didn't care for the Kabuki/Bliss tag match. I don't buy Alexa as a face at all.
- Corbin vs. Elias was an easy skip. Both are boring.
- Becky as the top star has definitely ended, and Shayna just isn't going to do well as a top heel on the main roster.
- Bryan/Zayn was ok. Seeing Bryan lose so easily just doesn't feel right. Zayn's great, but physically he looks like shit. Get him back into shape and back into wrestling attire.
- Nakamura is wasted alongside Cesaro. Dude has fallen far.
- Rollins and Kevin are fantastic, they killed it.
- Braun/Goldberg was what it needed to be. Glad Braun's champion now, but it's not like it will last long. It was supposed to be Roman, but hey it's Braun. Meaningless Goldberg title reign.
- Boneyard match was absolute sex.
Side notes:
- There are way too many titles. Way too fucking many, and most of them look like shit. The IC belt looks fine, but it doesn't look like an IC title, more like something you'd see on LU. The tag titles need to be merged. Enough of the colored leather, make the titles look actually prestigious. The look like color themed toys.
- A lot of the titles need to be retired/merged. Womens tag titles... Cruiserwight... RAW/SD tag titles... the 24/7... and I really dislike how there are two top belts (WWE and Universal).
- Michael Cole's commentary is still the mark of mediocre.
- I really really love Wrestlemania being two days. Hopefully they stick w/ this format because I'm not burnt out at all. I'm ready for Day 2.
- The roster is more than stacked and a large portion needs to be let go. The undercard is a mud layer. WWE needs to start making their superstars seem immortal and larger than life by making them seem like it takes a lot to defeat someone. If somebody goes down, it should feel like a big deal and it's meant to be.
- Title reigns need to mean something again. Braun's IC reign was non-existent, Wyatt's came and went for no reason, and not enough title holders are being utilized as such. Everybody seems like chickens w/ their heads cut off.
- WWE needs a complete and total overhaul, from the ground up. From the presentation to the way they format their shows.
WWE has been my first exposure to the bloke as I don't follow American Football. He's just grating and annoying to me.
I can honestly see why people would hate the boneyard match.
I went back and forth, and ultimately it won me over. I worry that it will now be overused. The Undertaker is probably the perfect character for this experience. We've had more than two decades of suspending disbelief. He's a gifted performer. It fits his character. His opponent is also one of the more gifted performers we've seen in a long-time. It was present in a strange feeling environment, not as a tv watching experience for a live arena (could have killed a crowd). It was the right decision for it go last. For me, they made it work.
But these were a unique set of circumstances
I don't see this working 2 or 3 times a year.
Bliss/cross vs kabuki warriors and elias/corbin were a bit meh for me.
Baszler vs. Lynch was solid, but I thought the pin looked weak. Other than that fine.
Enjoyed Bryan vs, Zayn. Hope we see some more there.
Also enjoyed Owens and Rollins.
Strowman vs Goldberg was what it was. Accomplished what it needed to. Hope Strowman can make this work during a very weird time.
Owens said he was going to jump off the ship if they were at the stadium. Unreal.
Gronk is winning the 24/7 title at some point tonight.
If I have one complaint about the Boneyard Match (other than the excessive camera angle changes) it's that Taker didn't finish him off with a signature move, just a mediocre big boot. Would have been nice if he put him in the grave with a chokeslam or Last Ride or if he dropped him with a Tombstone and dumped him in, just to really put his signature on the win. As it was, the finish felt a little anticlimactic. A throat slash preceeded Tombstone to wrap it up would have been icing on the cake.
