i thought maybe i'd check out the beginning of RAW to see if there's any immediate change in the feel. tapped out because the visual style is just unbearable to me.

The opening segment was good, Roman had some good lines and Theory didnt say much.

If it weren't for Heyman and Reigns, Vince wouldn't have been referenced at all during the show. Very notable difference compared to Stephanie's message on Friday. Theory essentially got crapped on for 40 minutes after the impromptu brawl that started the show. I'm guessing he's blowing his cash-in opportunity on Saturday and Reigns pins him.

Glad to see Rhea is back and appears to be healthy.

The Ziggler/Styles pairing seems odd. I don't think it bodes well for Styles if this holds. I'm guessing it's just indirectly heating Ziggler up to be a rebound program for Theory.

The ImPaulsive segment was not good at all and that feud isn't trending well.

Won't be mad if the 24/7 championship is done.

Im glad Rhea is back, hopefully the brain thing turned out to be negative and her manhandling Dominik was pretty funny.

Dominik just ain’t it. He doesn’t have any charisma or anything going for him at all besides being Rey’s son. The daughter tho… she showed more ooomf telling Rhea “get outta here.” than Don’s ever shown.

I’ve missed heel Rhea. She’s so dang good.

Think we won't see real changes until after SummerSlam, as I read RAW had Vince written all over it. And I'd imagine they stick to the plans made for SummerSlam.

    Some other thoughts:
Indirect reference to Vince with the first match of the show, creating a Chosen One Match between Vince’s two guys: McIntyre and Theory.

I’ll give them credit for finding a multifaceted approach to the true open of the show. You start with a brawl and that’s chaos that’s going to hook people in. The other smart approach was what we ultimately say in the sense that Paul waa in the ring, calling Miz out and we got a brawl. That’s savvy because Paul isn’t it as a face right now but they’re having to try to sell it. You mask the reality by getting the boos out of the system but it’s not televised. You hopefully get it out of the system there and they’re subsided a bit for the actual segment. That’s smart. That said, it didn’t really work because Paul floundered in his extended talking segment.

Outside of Mysterio’s celebration, it was a pretty run of the mill episode. Not quite good as a go-home show.

Rhea making Dom her bitch was the best part of that segment.

Great to see her back. Hopefully things can pick up now for the Judgement Day and with Edge’s return still to come.

    Impaulsive was truly awful.

Dominik needs to bulk up or atleast get more toned, I’m getting David Flair vibes from him.

I thought the guy related to Bischoff was Eugene?

Anyway, I thought the top 5 stars of the show were

Rhea - I am super glad to see her back, and I hope she's coming back for her overdue title shot.
Maryse - I can't get enough of her on my TV, she's even made a Logan Paul segment worth watching
the MSG crowd - excellent, as always
Roman - from the opening segment, to the main event, the fans get more than their money's worth every time he's on screen
Rey - great highlight package, speech, and a solid feel-good win when many of us feared a Dom turn. I even liked the beatdown he sold later, as it means there is a lot more to come from him vs Judgment Day

Dominik feels like a guy who Joe Gacy would recruit. Steady in the ring but nothing outstanding. Maybe Maxxine can recruit him and chop that miserable hair of his.

Seemed like an odd spot to use asshole on TV for the first time. I loved the finish of the first triple threat, really good sequence.

They going to create new title belts for the unified tag straps or nah? They could probably do that for the Universal/WWE titles also, to be honest…

First hour being commercial free really helped make those good matches incrementally better. Lots of long matches tonight, only one rematch and it’s not one that hasn’t been used for a while. BS DQ finish didn’t happen until two hours into the show. Nothing was really boring to where you needed to skip it and good to build up the midcard for the US Championship. Gripe I’d have with that last point is to not go right into the championship match next week. Just let Ciampa stack more wins for a week or two before the match.

This didn’t need to be a splashy big night because you can burn through those over time. Just establish your baseline and incorporate different faces and avoid the lazy tropes. So far so good. Let’s see how Friday goes.

Read the results on the main page and was pretty pleased with a lot of what went on. Read the review on Bleacher Report and they said it was one of the best episodes in months, maybe years, as far as everything serving a purpose. Very pleased to see the Ciampa focus rumors come true, love him, and a lot of other promising developments on the show.

Caught highlights and liked what I saw for the most part, although the camera jerking is still there lol. I know it'll take time, I'll get off it though

Really enjoyed Miz/AJ/Ali, especially the SCF on Ali while he was coming through the ropes and the gosh dang finish. 450 splash into a Styles Clash? Perfection.

I see some main event potential in Montez Ford. Think he should ditch the shorts though.

Bayley/Io/Kai just fucking everybody up is rad.

Ciampa over AJ?? Fuck yeah. It's weird that he's Miz's lackey, but hopefully he'll be back on his own sooner rather than later.

Solid Raw. I really liked the triple threat matches as everyone seemed to gel nicely and nobody looked like shit.

Tag title match was very very good. For all the shit people give Dom about how he needs to go to NXT and this and that, the boy delivers. Yes Rey and the Usos are incredible, but Dom steps it up as well. It's not like watching La Resistance v. Benoit/Edge where clearly Sylvan is out of his element compared to everyone else. I turned my head for a second and thought Edge speared Dom on purpose but nope, Rhea's fault. She adds so much to that stable it's not even funny.

Ciampa/Styles was easily match of the night. Iyo Sky/Belair was cool. I'm digging the whole Team Bayley v. Team Bianca thing we have going on with Asuka and Bliss joining the mix. Bliss is a wildcard as a babyface. Especially post-Fiend stuff.

All in all a nice show. 8/10.

Yeah I was quite impressed with Dominik last night. I'm one of those people on the fence about his longterm future but if he can perform like he did last night there's no reason he can't have a nice career in WWE. I'm intrigued by the involvement of The Judgment Day, pursuing the Mysterio's, especially with both Rhea and Edge back in the picture it's created some unpredictability about which way this goes.

It'd be a great TV-14 swerve if it turned out Dominik has a BDSM kink and he's already joined The Judgement Day and he's just happily allowing Rhea Ripley to abuse him.

Who was that at the ending? I thought it was just a fan because they never zoomed in but also didn’t shy away from it. Gargano? They are in Cleveland, or Dexter Lumis?

    It was Lumis.

Cool approach to have an underlying story happening over the course of the episode: a car accident in the background during KO’s promo, security fleeing the scene and chasing toward something as the ladies were jawing at each other, then not really drawing full attention to Lumis trying to rush toward ringside and getting arrested.

@mth I was thinking of you immediately last night when I saw this man. Not a fan but I'm apparently in the minority as he always seemed to have a great following.

AJ Styles vs. Dexter Lumis has match of the year written all over it.

I think this is where they could be going. He “failed the first test” so this could be another.

Lumis should grow a beard like a lumberjack, I’d… well I dont wanna offend people but he could get it.

I’m normally a big advocate for beards but not sure it would suit Lumis any better as to how he is now. A beard could distract a bit from his icy stare.

I was never the biggest fan of Lumis but that storyline arc last night was damn good. The car crash to the security running in to the ending. Great storyline.

Thanks for posting the video. I missed it, saw where AJ was looking into the crowd but I didn't pick up on anything. A lot of chaos on last night's show, this new WWE is off to a great start.

I don't want it to become AEW where there seems to be a new person every week, but the main roster became a bit depleted with the releases or not resigning people. So far, happy with the people they're bringing back. I thought we were gonna get an AJ beatdown and have Gargano run in to help him out. Would be consistent and continue the Gargano/Ciampa stuff from NXT.

I will say this about the new talent. At least they were in developmental and not just wrestlers from AEW that were released. Yes some were actually released by the WWE but Kai and Kross were at least on the main roster for a cup of coffee as well. So I don't really look at this the same way as I would AEW debuting new people every show because again, these were talent in developmental recently and/or on the main roster that were released for various reasons.

Plus it doesn't hurt to get a little variety. Raw/SD get into that habit of having the same 10 people every week fighting each other, interacting with each other.

From a live event perspective and weekly TV perspective, one of AEW's weaknesses is that you might not see your favorite guys do much of anything some weeks. And before anyone gets silly, I'm meaning favorites in the main event or upper mid-card. Like even before BD's injury, yo could go to a show, and you might just see him nodding while Regal talked. Or Britt Baker, their most popular female, might not be on the show at all. And then just have a 30 second bit on Rampage.

WWE, on the other hand, outside of Roman....most shows you see the people who people want to see more. But they're often doing the same thing repeatedly.

There's a happy medium that I hope WWE is moving closer to.

Yeah I get what you're saying. More like call-ups rather than jumping ship. I'll be curious if there are more, how many, and who in the weeks to come. They still have some work to do about how many main event caliber people they can push right now. As it is there's Roman, Usos (if needed), Drew, Kross lurking, Seth and probably another one or two. They've done well developing their midcard while just tossing new challengers at Roman that you wouldn't expect to take the title off him.

Also, calling her Iyo Sky is taking some getting used to.

I'm not sure if they did this previously, but I'm enjoying that they are building up matches for the next week or a future show. Lashley vs. Ciampa last week, Priest vs. Edge next week, etc. Cliffhangers, reasons to watch next week, it's much needed.

Really happy Dexter Lumis is back in the fold. He, along with Kross/Scarlett, were two of my favorite things about NXT. I hope they keep these returns or debuts to a minimum though, maybe once a month or so.

Regardless of who is in charge, not a week of Raw goes by without me asking myself, "Who better than Kanyon?"

Agree on the returns. Good for programming, but don't want overkill. While I thought last night would've been a good return for Gargano, not disappointed how it worked out. I was starting to get tired of the shows ending with a talking segment or a contract signing or something flat. Now they've given people something to come back to the following week, same with Kross and Smackdown.

Its nice to see now that Triple H is back in charge, he gets to bring all of his favorite toys back.

    - Karrion Cross and Scarlett are a great act together and Cross/Drew Mac tickles my fancy.

    - Dakota Kai is a lovely young woman and her and Io Skye as a team has some potential. When was the last time we had a good all female stable?

    - Dexter Lumis as a batshit crazy man would make a fantastic opponent for a Bobby Lashley or a Matt Riddle. Just slot him right into RAW's meaty midcard and put him to work. Lumis vs. AJ Styles? Lumis vs. Finn Balor? Lumis vs. Damian Priest? Lumis vs. Rey Mysterio? Lumis vs. Beer My Van... okay, maybe not that last one. But the dude's a fresh slate coming in out of wrestling obscurity. They can make him heel, babyface, or in-between and it'll all work.

Dexter Lumis' return clip from RAW has 2.1M views on YouTube. That's more than twice as many as the next highest viewed clip from the show (1M) and everything else is ~700K or less.

Someone help me out here but did I see Kenny Doane from the Spirit Squad breaking up a fight last night on Raw???

Edit: Just wiki'd that shit and holy fuck he is currently signed as a trainer and backstage producer. That's pretty awesome. Always felt like that guy had an extreme amount of potential. IDK what happened to his career-that I actually believe. I heard John Cena had something to do with his exit. I know he was engaged to Mickie James at one point. Dude had the best top rope legdrop EVER, better than Eaton and Psicosis.

RAW was very good again last night.

Drew vs. KO, even though we did not get a finish, was terrific. Drew comes out for a decent promo scouting his next opponents, and KO comes out and gives a killer promo. KO points out it has been 5 years since he's had gold and he wants to be the prize fighter again. Drew's response talking about we're wrestlers in a wrestling ring so let's wrestle had the crowd going nuts, and we got a really good match before the USO's interruption. The whole segment was fantastic, and was what wrestling should be, as it left us wanting more from everyone.

Lashley vs. Styles was also very very good.

I enjoyed Theory and Ziggler more than I thought I would. The crowd was not into them at first, mainly because face Dolph is clearly being fed to Theory. I liked how Theory called Dolph out for essentially doing nothing with his career after being a MITB cash-in winner.

Agree totally, @3puppies. Raw was great.

As well as Owens/Drew and Bobby/AJ, I also really enjoyed Asuka/Bliss Vs. Doudrop/Cross. That was some good stuff in there. Ciampa/Miz Vs. Ali/Alexander was also well worth a watch. Killer of an ending sequence.

Nothing feels rushed, show feels quite fresh. More time given to entrances etc. Enjoying all their shows right now.

Looking forward to Clash at the Castle. I'm getting to Cardiff on the Friday morning.
