It's almost as if these two franchises could have some kind of bizzaro connection or something..

My podcasts I listen really big up Eric Bieniemy and don’t know how he’s not a HC. Only reason being he must not want to be.

He may just not interview spectacularly well. That was the knock on Gary Kubiak for the longest time. Mike Zimmer as well I believe.

But he seems like the kind of dude players would leave it all on the field for, and assuming he can assemble a solid staff I damn sure want him to be heard here. And Deshaun's already vouched for him, so there's that.

He's made it clear he covets the HC role so it's not a lack of desire. We can't see what's going on behind closed doors so maybe it is poor interviewing, but based on the teams he's interviewed with, I'd wager it's poor interviewing on the teams' part more so than on Bieniemy's. I mean, look at who's interviewed him: NYJ, NYG, MIA, CIN, and TB.

All teams that have been perennial bottom dwellers in the last decade plus, with the arguable exception of NYG.

Pretty sure we’d have been a perfect fit for him and was my top target I personally wanted but now glad we went with Brian Flores in the end.

Coaching: If I'm a top prospect for a HC gig, I'm hoping like hell the Chargers sink this season and that job opens up.

Just saw the Pro Football Focus deal where they have the top QBs ranked like this

    1. Rodgers
    2. Wilson
    3. Brady
    4. Mahomes

And it's like dude. I think Mahomes worst game of the season he was like 320 some yards 2 td 1 pick.

Meawhile Brady (who I admire and root for) had his worst game Suday night throwing for 6 yards and 23 interceptions or whatever.

Apparently they use the "high probablity of turnover" thing to grade these guys. Mahomes gets points knocked off because he throws passes that should get picked off but because his arm is a fucking cannon the DBs can't bring them down without losing a finger.

And I guess that's a bad thing. Yeah sure does suck when your QB rifles the football in there in such a way that only a true reciever can catch it.

Anyway I know Mahomes has become so great it's boring but here is the stat line.

    Mahomes

    66.87 comp pct

    25 td - 1 int

    2687 yards

    Wilson

    71.04 comp pct

    28 td - 8 int

    2541 yds

    Rodgers

    67.5 comp pct

    24 td - 2 int

    2253 yds

    Brady

    65.32 comp pct

    20 td - 7 int

    2398 yds

    ---------

Not only are we perhaps sleeping on Mahomes. But with or without the run game, we may be sleeping on KC to repeat.

Rest of the season is going to be fun shit.

Seems like KC is entirely content running whatever offense they need to run based on what the opposition provides them. If you're not able to get a pass rush on Mahomes (AND get him), he's just going to pick the poison he's going to inject onto the opposition. There's just too many weapons to account for.

I don't think anyone is sleeping on the Chiefs to repeat. They are the Super Bowl favorites. And I do agree ranking Brady ahead of Mahomes is wrong. Is what you're referring to PFF's QB grades for the season so far? Yea, I'd be surprised that Brady would be graded higher than Mahomes. That doesn't sound right.

The 3-way MVP race is a good one (you can include Cook and Kamara if you want, but I don't think they have a shot). I would bet on Mahomes winning it, or Rodgers, though Wilson is the one who I'm rooting for (he deserves an MVP at some point).

Yeah literally nobody is sleeping on KC. They're consistently at the top of whatever power rankings are out there, typically above the only remaining undefeated team in the league. As for the MVP race, he's right there with Wilson and Rodgers. The reason he probably hasn't been right at the top is because through the first seven games, he only had two games with more than two TDs. Whereas Rodgers only had two games with 2 or fewer, and Wilson had only one such game.

With these past two games where he's thrown a 9/0 TD/INT split, he's surely in the thick of the conversation again (even if 20% of his TDs this season have come against the 0-9 Jets).

Anyone watch Buffalo and Arizona? That game was beautiful with a great Hail Mary ending. Needed some excitement after a crummy weekend (Along with a fun Rajah Among Us game of course).

The hail mary from Kyler to Hop was amazing. Likely the play of the year.

The Patriots beat the Ravens, even without Gilmore playing. Great win. Back on track.

Murray has gotten his name into the MVP consideration in a hurry. If you take Cook and Kamara out of the mix, seems like the strong candidates are (alphabetical order): Mahomes, Murray, Rodgers, and Wilson.

Seems like Wilson has struggled in a huge way since their bye. Rodgers is probably going to need a great record to match his numbers. That leaves the other two. Should be fun.

Big Ben belongs ahead of Wilson.

At this point, not just alphabetically.

But Murray is becoming fun to watch.

I enjoyed the season-saving win for the Pats last night. There's a huge difference between 3-6 vs. 4-5, especially when it comes to the remote possibility of extending their playoff streak. But if I am going to be honest, the expectations for the Pats do not look Super this year.

I lost money on the pats game but still sat there with a big smile on my face watching the Ravens come up with zero solutions to anything New England was doing.

I wonder when the national headline on Lamar goes from "When will he come along as a passer?" to "Oh. This is as good as he's ever going to be."

The man can't get it done coming from behind.

I don't think Ben is really there tbh, and think it may be recency bias. Yesterday was his best game of the season but it came at home against a bad Bengals team with two wins (0 road wins) who are in the bottom 25 percentile in terms of total/passing yards allowed, and are two passing TDs away from giving up the most passing TDs in the league.

His first eight games before yesterday have been good, no doubt, but these were his stat lines going into yesterday:

    1934 passing yards
    18 TDs
    4 INTs
18 rushing attempts, 14 rushing yards, 0 TDs (only including the rushing stats since they'd be a contributing factor to some of the other QBs' accomplishments).

That's a pace to throw for less than 4k yards, with 36 TDs to 8 INTs. It's a good season sure, but not on the same level of what Mahomes, Murray, Rodgers, or Wilson have been doing imo.

Another fun note on Murray: he's second in the league in rushing TDs, only two behind Dalvin Cook. And he has more rushing yards at QB than the following RBs:
    Clyde Edwards Helaire
    Todd Gurley
    Ezekiel Elliott
    James Connor
    Aaron Jones
    Alvin Kamara
    Etc.

    Pretty wild.

I'd be backing Murray if push came to shove, just because that division is so good that his big performances and wins down the stretch, should they come, would mean that Mahomes would have to put up 5000+ yards and like a 7/8:1 TD:INT rate to keep pace. Not that I don't think Mahomes is the best player in the league, but the Chargers and Broncos being in transition and the fall off of the Pats and Texans has made the Chiefs schedule easier than the Cardinals.

Same would apply to Russ of course, but his defence is so bad that he's making mistakes trying to compensate for that.

Yeah Russ is forcing shit thinking they have to get six on every drive and it's making it easy to pick him off.

The West is such a mystery to me right now.

Yeah he may break nfl records for rushing TDs and yards while still putting up respectable passing #s on top of it. And if they win the division that's an added item for the resume as well.

    1. KC
    2. PIT

3-10 in alphabetical order because I have no idea what order I would put these in.
ARI, BUF, GB, LV, MIA, NO, SEA, TB.

ARI is super hot right now and look like the best team in the NFC. But in earlier losses to DET/CAR, not so much the case. BUF has been hot and cold too, but when they've been clicking, they've looked like a legit SB contender. GB is on par with BUF. When they're clicking they look unstoppable, but losses to MIN and TB - and even the recent win against JAX - were really ugly. Raiders aren't being talked about enough imo. Theyre responsible for the lone Chiefs L, and have been really well balanced. MIA has been hearing up the last several weeks too and look like they could be legit contenders too. NO has been hot and cold but assuming they stay in the hunt, they could make it on a rejuvenated Brees whose old self gets a little mid season break. SEA has looked bad the last couple weeks, but I still think Wilson is an MVP candidate and as long as he's healthy they are lethal. TB has a great D, and on paper have all the weapons to be the best team in the NFL. But with how large NFL rosters are, chemistry plays a big part and historically, teams who have built by adding veteran FA's instead of thru drafting and developing have often suffered as a result. I'm not convinced they make it despite how good of a team they'd be on Madden and how good they've looked against a couple select teams (GB for example).

SCOOP: I'm told NY Giants coaches Joe Judge and Marc Colombo got into a fistfight this morning.

Punches thrown. I'm told Colombo got the better of him, and Judge fired him instantly.

They are denying that there was a physical confrontation. Not sure who to believe. If it did happen, obviously they would deny it.

Maybe McIntyre's been had here, but I don't take him for the type to knowingly spread bs. And like you said, what else do you expect the team to say about it?

If there's any truth to it we can certainly expect the local media to be a dog on a bone here.

Also Colombo is a mountain of a dude, so it's kinda extra funny.

If anyone uses ESPN for Fantasy Football, Taysom Hill is listed as both a TE and QB this week. Go pick him up and you can play the QBs this week.

The Titans need this win so bad Sunday. I just have so little faith though. The Ravens haven't been playing so well but the Titans defense is paper thin and still no Adore Jackson this year. It will be an easier passing game for Jackson than he's had in a long time. No real pass rush and everyone plays 9 yards off the wrs. I feel like the game will be a high scoring one but I just don't know if we can get it done. I think our only shot is to score 40.

Yeah, suddenly the season turned. It's a pivotal week. The Colts are against Green Bay so potentially could slip up, but on the flip we could be 2 games back and 0-2 in the head to head a week on Monday. Miami has a clean schedule coming up too so we don't want to be chasing a wildcard with other teams on form.

I feel like the Colts take a loss to Green Bay. But if they don't, yeah major trouble. What's really upsetting is that there doesn't seem to be a whole lot we can do. It's just a personel problem. We don't have the players.

If Indy can impose its will with the run then I like their chances. Whoever loses TEN/BAL is definitely in some trouble.

As a GB fan, I think they matchup very poorly against Indy's strengths.

Monster win. Huge stand to force a field goal then Derrick after the play action to get us over the line. Colts look strong but win 1 of the next 2 and we should have the head to heads to make the wildcards at least. Still on for 3rd seed too.

In theory yes, but Indy (again) is being too cute with their backfield.

Just when you thought Philip Rivers was going to Indy to quietly let his career die, he surges out in front with a great win against the Pack.

And the Lions lose to a decrepit Panthers team headed by a talented but inexperienced XFL QB.

I expected GB to get manhandled at the LOS on both sides of the ball, and despite being bummed at the turnovers and just the loss in general, they put up 28 pts in one half against arguably the best defense in the league. So it's at least encouraging looking forward to the playoffs. Now if their defense could just stop the run...

I swear I argued with someone who said Mahomes was overrated.

    Week 16: Dolphins at Raiders
Lot could be riding on that one.

Baltimore is on the outside but if they can right the ship somewhat, I think they've got a chance to steal a spot.

Someone a page or two ago alleged that others were calling Mahomes overrated or something, but I don't think anybody actually was (at least in that conversation)

    Ravens remaining schedule.

at Steelers, Cowboys, at Browns, Jaguars, Giants, at Bengals

I would say they can totally do this.

But here is the thing. The Browns are 7-3 right now. Remaining sched?

Jags, Titans, Ravens, Giants, Jets, Steelers.

If Baltimore continues to slide and the Browns just beat the Jags, Giants and Jets then that's 10 wins. Quite a bounce back from last season.

But I'd still pick Baltimore to right the ship.

Browns definitely have a great path. I'll just be curious to see how they fare against teams better than them. I remain skeptical in terms of them.

Covid doesn’t help their chances of pulling off the upset. I’m not sure exactly who’s out for them though. I just heard it’s at least Dobbins and Ingram, leaving Gus Edwards as the starter.

I should've reworded my hot take to "no way that [BAL loses / PIT wins] on Thursday." Then I could obnoxiously gloat due to technicality.

Balt could totally win Sunday. The Steelers have played a lot of bad defenses and overall they have had the easiest schedule in the NFL. They have to lose sometime and they're up against a rival who needs this win way more than Pitt does.

Also the Titans are going to whip the Colts asses. Put your money on that one.

Baltimore certainly would need Campbell back because they've needed him.

Tennessee gonna luck out with Buckner going on COVID list

At this point I don’t think the BAL/PIT game happens on Tuesday. Just announced that a PIT player and coach have tested positive and they have both been in contact with several other players.

Tonight is the fourth time this season Rodgers has posted 3 TD 0 INT in the first half of a game. No other QB has done that more than twice thus far.

bucs struggling but they've still got potential. this bye week is much needed. if they can get their offense in sync they could still make a deep playoff run. but they need to improve. I heard pundits saying they don't do enough runs, don't do enough play action and not enough pre-snap motion for tommy to identify the defensive play call. and I agree with all that. need to run to set up the pass. I'm looking for them to go 3-1 the rest of the way for a 10-6 record. 4-0 isn't off the table (they have vikings, falcons, lions, falcons remaining)

another gritty win by the patriots over a solid cardinals team. Gilmore and crew shut down Hopkins (5/55) like they needed to do.

next up: a chance to get back to .500 versus the chargers in LA. no game will be easy for these Pats and this will be no exception. Belichick does well vs rookie QBs but Herbert, Ekeler, Keenan Allen.... they have the playmaking ammo to take it to the pats. gonna be another grind out game. edelman hopefully might be returning.

they probably have to win out to get to the playoffs, I'd imagine. Unless the Dolphins, Raiders, and Ravens completely bottom out.

I would be shocked if it's not Chiefs vs Steelers in the AFC. I can't see a team knocking out the Chiefs but I can see the Titans or Bills beating the Steelers.

The NFC is wide open right now. The Rams look good one week and then lay an egg the next. Bucs started 6-2 and now 7-5. Saints look good but Brees is out for a while. Seahawks defense is really bad. Cards were a contender but now 6-5. The Pack might be the best team in the conference right now.

Pack might have the best offense in the NFC but arguably the worst defense (SEA gives them a run for their money on both titles). If they payed mitchell Trubisky every weekend they'd be undefeated

9-7 could possibly get the Pats in, but you are probably right, barring an expansion to a 16 team playoff field. Just to play this out for a moment, for fun... If the Pats get to 9-7 (which I am not predicting, I think 8-8 is probably their ceiling, but 9-7 is possible) and they beat the Dolphins again thus securing their tiebreaker over them, then I could easily see them passing the Dolphins. The Dolphins schedule is fairly tough here out, though it will be easier if the Bills have nothing to play for in week 17. The Pats somewhat control their own destiny with the Fins, and they would need to beat them.

The Ravens schedule is very easy after they play the Steelers, so that will be tough, but assuming the Steelers beat them, they will be 6-5 and the Pats hold the tiebreaker. Maybe covid will hurt them enough for them to also finish 9-7. Their last 5 are Cowboys, Browns, Jags, Giants, Bengals. That looks a lot like 4-1, but you never know. It could be 3-2.

The Patriots also hold the tiebreaker over the Raiders who are 1 game ahead of the Patriots. Their schedule is fairly easy as well (they already played the Chiefs twice), but I could very easily see them finishing 9-7 or worse, because it's the Raiders.

I am assuming the Colts finish with 10 wins or more because they are probably too good to fall back.

Long story short, while I agree with what you said, if the Patriots miraculously finish 4-1 in their next 5 to reach 9-7, they have a decent shot. Ravens falling back to 9-7 is the hardest thing to imagine here, but it's possible.

I saw something that said the Pats have a 12% chance at the playoffs now, which seems reasonable.

I am trying to be an optimist when I say the Pats chances are slim, because I don't trust Cam to win five, or even four of five, especially with that receiving corps. They haven't figured out their offense yet. Cam is too mistake prone.

Belichek has earned his reputation for getting his teams to improve as the season goes along - his December record is 59-11. But if the Pats make the playoffs this year, it may be his best coaching season yet.

The Colts and Browns would have to go some to fall back, and I can't see all 3 of the Ravens, Dolphins and Raiders to capitulate to 9-7 or worse. My lean would be the Ravens, they might even close out as #1 wildcard on the tiebreakers.

In the middle of a lost season was just thinking 'well at least it's kinda nice how Will Fuller's stayed healthy so far'..

    ..and now I know how.

    DeAndre Hopkins - traded
    Randall Cobb - IR
    Kenny Stills - cut
    Will Fuller - suspended

    Lovely.

Sooooo glad the Packers didn't give up a 2nd round pick! They got killed for not budging on the 4th they offered. But if they gave up a 2nd for like a 2-game rental only to have him suspended and leave in FA (they wouldn't be able to afford him), it'd be 10x worse.

Also, on a kinda-related note (speaking of GB and WR sagas), they've signed Tavon Austin

Philly losing on the regular and losing in the trash talk department. Apparently Metcalf shared that the DC for Philly came up to him pregame and said he was in Detroit when Megatron was there and that Metcalf is no Megatron. What a moronic thing to say prior to a game, haha.

He didn't say he's no megatron, he complimented him saying he's the closest thing he's seen to megatron since he coached megatron in detroit

Trying to figure out the reason for the Eagles struggles. I think the main culprit is Roseman's drafting the last 2 years as the top reason. Pederson can't seem to be creative at all since his assistant coaches left in 2018. Injuries are a factor for sure on the offensive line. My gut tells me Pederson and Roseman should get the hook. Maybe hire Bieniemy, draft Ja'Mar Chase, and hope the offensive line gets healthy. The defense is mediocre of that's all you really need to be to win in the NFL. You could use your other picks to either draft defense or offensive line. They don't have the money at all to sign free agents so they have to hit on the draft.

I look at the other teams that have won super bowls and struggled. Ravens, Giants, Broncos. It happens a lot. Teams like the Packers, Seahawks, Pats, Steelers find a way to be good every single year and the qb had a lot to do with it, of course. Even the Saints with Brees had like 5 years where they were bad after the super bowl win.

Jim Schwartz says he complimented DK before game, told him he’s got ton of respect for him & he was with Calvin in Detroit & he’s closest thing to Megatron he’s seen. Jim told him after game, “you may not be Calvin yet but you’re on your way.”

Wentz doesn't have time to look at more than one read/only feels comfortable looking at one read. His throws aren't very good. His wideouts aren't very good at getting separation. Sanders is an elite option but the line doesn't do him a lot of favors. It's a big ass mess and is going to need a fair amount of time and health to fix.

Pederson tries to get too cute. I made this joke last night and I think it's right:
Pederson is out there playing chess, while the rest of the NFL is playing football.

Wentz sure doesn't look like he's worth that huge contract. He's inaccurate with his throws and doesn't seem to run through all his options. It doesn't help that his receivers seem to drop what should be easy catches far too often, nor do they show any ability to make the "really great" difficult catches either - the ones that would make highlight clips. He's taken far too many sacks, and they all can't be blamed on the swiss cheese line in front of him.

a lot of them can, though. he's the most sacked quarterback in the league. he's sacked on 10% of his pass attempts. three years running he's thrown no more than 7 interceptions, only to more than double that this year, with 6 games left to go. i think the clearest thing to me is that frank reich was the best coach on that super bowl team, and we've been spinning our wheels since josh fucking mcdaniels fucked over the colts. we've given wentz a perpetually rotating o-line and no real offensive fire power outside of zach ertz for the last three seasons, and we wanna act surprised that he's finally having a shit year.

Nothing derails a young QB's career quicker than a shitty o-line and bad coaching.

David Carr on the Texans is a good example.

Carr didn't have a fraction of the give a fuck it takes to be a successful nfl qb.

You're not wrong about how much the organization did him zero favors, and I agree with your overall point about hamstringing a qbs development, but that dude did equal parts favors for himself in that particular case. It was a near mutual disaster.

Expansion teams shouldn't make their first picks quarterbacks. Unless they sit them behind a veteran QB to develop, it's going to end in disaster.

Problem here is the Texans are a marketing team with a football division.

Just had to have that face of the franchise to prance around to all the new galas and plaster on the cover of magazines and ads and whatnot.

I think the hardest game to pick this week is Pats/Chargers. LA has the better team for certain but by far the worst coach. They should have won more games this season than I can remember.

I'll say Pats win due to something weird. Blocked fg returned for a td. 100 yd kickoff return for a td. Something like that.

Titans/Browns gonna be a lot of fun. Basically the top two run games in the nfl and something has to give.

It wll be the Browns run game. They play like shit when they have to pass. The team stats when Mayfield passes for over 200 yards are awful. Meanwhile the Titans defense fucking SUCKKKKKKKS against the pass but against the run it can be a different story.

Plus I like Nick but he isn't a dumptruck rolling down a hill disguised as a football player like Derrick. Maybe Derrick doesn't run for much over 100 but I say he wins the battle and the game for us.

Browns still make the playoffs though.

The Browns have won 1 game against a decent football team all season. Double on the Bengals (one a life and death) and cleaned up on the NFC East and the rest of the AFC South. The Titans will run all over them.

Well let's not go crazy patting ourselves on the back yet. What do we have for quality wins? That weird tuesday night game when we beat the amazing unstoppable Buffalo Bills and the win two weeks ago against a sliding Ravens team. That's it. The Ravens game is actually more of a template for how we need to win this one.

I mean I'm sure we'll win but I wouldn't be surprised if we don't cover the spread which has been around 5.5 or 6.
