I'm curious to see how long he can hold up but it's a pretty standard way to play offense and can be very effective if he's rolling. On top of that, it really feeds energy to their defense because you can keep the clock running and give the defense rest if you have sustainable drives that lead to scoring or longer fields to drive down for the opposition.

Well the Titans had me in a panic for 3 hours so way to go team. Team yay go team go.

Gostkowski had a rough night. But as we all know something about wearing Titan blue totally fucks up kickers. Fuck it though. We won.

Allen Robinson has removed the Bears from his social media profiles. I know this because in my feed people are saying the Patriots should trade for him. The problem with that, as I see it, is he's disgruntled because he's not gotten an extension and the Patriots are also not likely to give him an extension. But I would nevertheless be happy to get him as a 1-year rental to give Cam a much needed WR weapon.

The San Diego kid can play. KC got all they could handle.

That shit with the effortless attempt by the Falcons to recover the on side kick was just awful. Still that was a monster comeback by Dak. People need to give it up a little for him.

Butker is insanely good. The man could kick a snowball 58 yards in a snowstorm.

And here's my weekly rant about how the Fords should get the fuck out of football. Copying and pasting the Patriots onto other organizations has never worked long-term and it certainly wasn't going to work in Lionland.

The Chargers feel like they've got a really good mix of game plan and talent in regards to competing with the Chiefs. That said, they very rarely actually beat them.

This Pats/Sea game is fucking good. These dudes are chippy.

Edit: well it was good until the Seahawks decided to open up the whole case of whoop ass.

I think New England learned some things about their offense if they start to play from behind. That's definitely promising for them. Seattle's lack of pass rush seems extremely problematic but their offense can wash away a lot of those sins.

To be fair to Seattle, a couple of their cover guys did go down to injuries during the game. The rest of those guys stepped up big time when it was required.

It is going to be a long season for my Vikings. The defense needs to continue the rebuild, and the offense can't get anything going because we are getting dominated in the time of possession stat. Danielle Hunter's injury, and Michael Pierce opting out really hurts the run defense.

There is some steep competition, but tanking for Trevor sounds good.

It's looking like Cousins is a guy who is best suited to have a lot to work with. He won't elevate the talent around him. They also don't seem wise to the fact that Cook could help alleviate some of their issues with stalling on offense. The defense is the larger issue, for sure, but that would help.

Titans and Vikings players have covid. Shutting down the facilities. No clear answer on if they will be allowed to play Sunday or who has it yet.

As of now, they're saying they want to keep it as scheduled or only move it to Monday Night. Tough spot for the Titans not to be able to practice, but it is what it is.

It only is what it is when it's not your team. Then it fucking sucks. But this wont be the last time this happens to someone this season. Hopefully it doesn't cause any injuries on the Titans to be out there playing at full speed coming off no practices.

This was always going to be way worse than baseball simply because of the whole 11 dudes lined up breathing on 11 dudes thing.

And then if anybody starts full on missing games they can't be so easily made up.

It's like I said a while back. This season will go on and will do so to completion. But it's gonna be fucked up, lop sided and ugly.

I drafted Derrick Henry in the 1st round in the cash league so it is kind of my team! But I hear you. I guess in my mind I'm thinking about how teams barely do tackle practice these days anyway, and the injury risk won't be that bad, it's more of a competitive disadvantage but "it is what it is" since it's sort of kind of the team's own fault for getting covid? Not fair, I know, because people are bound to get it, but that's how I'm looking at it in this moment. Mind you I'm in favor of them rescheduling it using the Ravens/Steelers bye week swap. They won't be able to keep doing that if more games need rescheduling, but maybe they do that and pray there aren't more cases. This is sort of a precedent setter, though, so maybe they can't treat it as a one-off.

But the key thing here is the tests they do of the Titans and Vikings between now and Saturday. These will be so vital. It's okay the NFL is staying the course for now, probably praying the tests don't start to flip positive between now and Saturday. If more Titans test positive they will have to reschedule it. What did they say, 3 players tested positive so far?

I think they should at least move it to MNF tentatively, test everyone Saturday, look at the results on Sunday and then decide on a go/no-go decision for MNF. I mean they have to allow a week for incubation period. But if they leave it on Sunday, well the Saturday tests don't come back until next day so that is a time crunch to cancel it last minute.

Missing practice for an entire week could be crippling. The NFL is 99 percent practicing. No other sport is about practice like NFL is about practice. All those days. 16 of those days are actual games. Everything else is practice. If the Steelers somehow lose this game (and they shouldn't even if the Titans practiced for two weeks. Too many injuries) it will be because of what they do or don't do.

I don't really think the game should be postponed though. Or even moved to Monday. Why use up a Monday that could be devoted to the next game that you might actually win? And plenty of teams are going to go through this exact same shit. And we can't put everything off to a week 18 game because that could result in even more chaos.

Sucks that it happened to my team but fuck it. This season is going to be what it is. We're not all going to feel like it's all fair and hunky dory at the end of the season.

Yeah up to 11 now so it's a full on break out. I just wonder what "later in the season" is going to mean. Titans and Steelers have different bye weeks so it doesn't mean that. I suppose they'll make it a week 18 game. The commish has already made it clear that the NFL is fully prepared to move back the playoffs and even the super bowl by weeks if it comes down to it. Still, imagine a scenario where the Titans need one more win to make it to the playoffs but one more game isn't going to do anything for the Steelers but beat them up a little more before the playoffs start. What then? Punish both teams with a game that only one of them needs while the rest of the league gets an extra week off full of prep and healing time?

Yeah this is gonna get fucking complicated by the end of the season. I mean what are the odds that the Titans are the only team this happens to?

From what I’m seeing online, it seems like the tentative plan is to have Steelers/Titans play week 7, which is the Titans bye week. The Steelers are scheduled to play the Ravens week 7, but both those teams have week 8 as their bye week so they could just play then. Ravens would take week 7 as their bye.

    A couple thoughts:

-They should do the week 7/8 bye week swap for Titans/Ravens/Steelers like BigAl just summarized. This is the best option for this particular postponement.
-If there are more postponements they won't be able to keep doing that, but we can cross our fingers that there aren't more.
-If they do the "week 18" plan like you said, my personal idea would put it in week 17, and push week 17 to week 18. That way the final week of the season is still normal. Now granted that could blow up if there are more covid cases in week 17/18, but I would prefer to have the "makeup game week" not be the final week because that would be weird competitively.
-To your point about everyone else getting a free bye week at the end, that's true, but the Titans (for example) would have had 2 "bye weeks" during the season so it evens out. My above idea also solves this issue of giving lots of teams a bye week right before the playoffs.
-The potential issue with a week 18 makeup week would be if any team has multiple games postponed (whether due to their own covid fault or their opponent's fault). If any team has 2 postponements that are pushed to the end of the year, it really gets hard to manage.

Yeah I was just reading about the bye week flip that the NFL could do with the Ravens and Steelers that could potentially be a fix. Seems like Baltimore might be a little upset that they're getting drug into the situation but this is the reality here. If one team has an outbreak it's going to affect teams across the league. I mean I haven't even checked yet but are the Vikings allowed to practice yet? It's just crazy the domino effect here.

Good god what if we have like 4 teams or more dealing with covid issues at the same time? It's become apparant how quickly things can get fucked up big time. Let's just hope the Titans situation helps the rest of the league realize that this shit could potentially be season ruining and makes everyone keep those masks on and follow protocol.

Oh and on the selfish tip. This postponement TOTALLY helps the Titans if it only amount to this one game. The Titans are banged up as fuck and still don't have Adore Jackson or AJ Brown ready to come back. No way we could have beaten the Steelers this week.

if there are more postponements, and it gets to a certain point, we might have to deal with the fact that some teams will play fewer than 16 games. and that will create competitive inbalance. like if some teams only play 15 games and that affects who makes the playoffs, because you know, your game against the Jets got cancelled and "that would have been an easy win!" then boo hoo, deal with it. I'm okay if it comes to that. we don't need the season to be perfect to finish it. there's an extra wild card spot now anyway so that only makes it easier to get in.

Agreed. I think we just have to stick with the mindset that this season is going to be screwy and weird and we could easily see some teams not complete a 16 game schedule. Or various other things that might not feel "fair".

The one certainty is that Bill Belichek has already figured all of these possibilities, and will somehow make them work to the Patriots advantage. If his team has a few significant injuries, I could imagine a few practice squad players claiming they got infected so he could get an extra week off if needed.

Two more positive tests for the Titans today. Next week’s Bills/Titans game is in jeopardy according to speculation.

    COVIDGATE.

    Yeah this season is fun.

I think that this game isn't happening this week. They "postponed until Monday or Tuesday" the game between the Titans and Steelers as well and then as contact tracing developed and more positives came back, it got delayed until whenever.

SI article that makes the argument that nobody wants to hear. The NFL needs to hit the emergency pause button on the season before covid completely fucks everything up.

not that this game is over yet but... being 0-4 with no 1st or 2nd round pick .... not ideal

Stands to reason. But we're paying two GM's as is right now, three if you count O'Brien. And I'm not sold on this front office is going to pay for the last Brian Gaine to have left while they pay for O'Brien to leave while they hire and pay for a new HC next year while they hire and pay for a new GM next year as well.

While we stare down the barrel of a winless season, while we have nothing down the draft pipe to look forward to, while our salary cap will soon be tied to a mega-contract QB..

It's an epic fire of dumpster proportions.

I was personlly in favor of giving him a shot here. Hoping he'd make a good pair with Justin Reid, as Reid is a kind of a heads up and selfless S who can let Earl freelance and cover for him in certain situations without a lot of ego to get in the way, in a similar way to Kam Chancellor. And it's not like he was going to drag down a SB contending team/locker room. But if they spoke as a team and didn't feel good about it then I don't mind it turning out the way it did.

I knew they were going to be far better than last year.

The problem for them is, of course, being in the north.

    The Browns. 3-1.

Third in the AFC North and more wins than the NFC East combined...

The AFC is better this year, but you can still write off the Jets, Dolphins, Broncos, Texans, Jags, Chargers and Bengals. So 7 slots for 9 teams most likely. I'd be surprised if the Colts, Titans, Bills and Pats missed out based on the weakness of divisions. Chiefs are the best team in the league, Ravens not far behind. So comes down to that Steelers D against the Browns offence. I'd favour the Steelers but the H2H will separate them I'd say.

Going 3 from the west in the NFC, with the Packers, Saints, Buccs and Cowboys. Only doubt there is if 1 of the 3 go 2-4 or worse in the division.

No real excuse for the Cowboys to have played so poorly against the run with the star rb sidelined most of the game. Nolan may be out before long as the dc. I know they have personel issues as well but it's easier to replace the coach and Jerry has to be shitting himself blind. All that offense and it never gets off the ground early enough to just run Zeke and control the clock.

I still think they'll snap out of it and go 8-8. They are the 8-8 Cowboys after all. And the last time they went 1-3 to start, Wade Phillips got shit canned and they went...8-8.

Also the last time the current head coach went 1-3 to start, with the Packers, he wound up going...8-8.

God I can't wait for Skip and Shannon on Monday.

No new covid cases for the Titans for the first time in a week! WHOOOOOOOOO!!!!

(I'ts because the whole team has it now but hey.)

The league is in Nashville investigaing to see if the Titans were breaking covid protocol. The Titans believe they've gone beyond the normal measures and have been extra careful. Could be fines if they find anything.

What a mess he leaves behind. I mean they have their QB so that’s at least something to build on.

Jack Easterby next? My girl Steph Stradley is going off on him on Twitter. What an unusual character he is, from Patriots character coach to essentially currently running the Texans football operations in a matter of a couple years.

Kinda felt like the pats would've won that game with Cam.

The pats balled out and put the clamps on mahomes and the entire chiefs offense. Bad qb play was the difference. And that Edelman drop that led to a pick 6, that was awful. But if the patriots offense was capable they would have won handily I reckon.

An encouraging loss for sure even if the final score was slanted. Pats have gone toe to toe with the Seahawks and Chiefs both on the road and proven they are a super bowl team yet again

For most of the game, the Patriots were actually in the game. Hoyer should have gotten rid of the ball instead of taking the sack to close out the first quarter. And early in the second half, Hoyer's fumble in the red zone should never happen. Was it Romo who said that Cam was sitting at home watching the millions he would be earning next year?

Not going to lie, i did enjoy having 2 MNF games to have on all night. The Patriots would have been closer if Cam was in the game.

The Chiefs have started 4-0 for four seasons straight? That is pretty remarkable.

Does Patricia make it through the whole season? My guess is they’re waiting to see how they do in the next 6-7 games since the Lions schedule eases up a bit. If they can get to .500 by midseason they’ll stick with him until the end and fire him unless by some miracle they make the playoffs. But if they lose the next 2-3 games he gets fired right away.

He was my pick to get shit canned first this year. As an outsider looking in, it feels like he's done before midseason. Seems like patience has worn thin.

    I highly doubt it.

The Jets seem like the only organization that might perfectly content laying in their mess for the remainder of the season.

Fire Patricia. Don't fire Pateicia. You can get rid of everybody from the GM Quinn down to the guy who throws out the trash and it still doesn't change the fact that the Fords still own the team

Totally agree about the Fords, nothing will change as long as they own the team. I don't know if it's a lack of knowledge or if they are just content with mediocrity but I'm tired of rebuilding every 5 years.

Positive tests this morning on the Titans, Pats, and Raiders. Not good.

Yea and not that this is the key thing here but why did it have to be the Patriots two most valuable players testing positive (Cam and Gilmore)? Ugh.

Anyway as for the bigger picture. I dunno. This isn't good, but it's not "cancel the season" bad yet. The NFL needs to stop being dummies asap. Cancelling or postponing a game, or a couple games, is better than having an outbreak that spirals into a bigger issue. NE/KC shouldn't have been played. Even if it didn't get passed on to the Chiefs (fingers crossed), it could have helped cause a Titans-esque outbreak for the Pats.

It was bound to happen with the Raiders. They clearly have not been following the protocols.

When do they switch from fines to taking away draft picks? What will it take for Gruden to take is seriosuly?

I think they are eventually going to have to push the season back at some point right? It's not like baseball where you can have 7 games in 5 days. It worked out with the Titans and Steelers. But it's looking like the titans/bills might get postponed or even the next Pats game if there is an outbreak. Hopefully that's it. Maybe the players are doing all they can but they need to be smarter if not. It could ruin a season if just a few teams have breakouts. The last 4 weeks and playoffs should absolutely be in a bubble. Sucks for homefield but that's the sacrifice they might have to make.

Apparently the Titans held a group workout last week. What’s the penalty here? Loss of draft picks? Suspensions? 0.01% chance they forfeit to the Bills if the game can’t be played due to an increase in positive tests?

i think there's definitely a real chance for a forfeit if the Titans were negligent.

Forfeiting a game is an interesting concept. Let’s say they get to that point, just hypothetically... would it count as a win for the Bills? That would seem odd to me that the Bills would get a win on their record over a game not played.

It would be a Bills win by the score of 2-0.

I agree if only because I think the NFL needs to make an example of a team for willfully disregarding the rules.

I think draft picks and fines make more sense. And I’m not just saying this because it’s currently the Bills, but when you award another team a free win it affects the league standings. Now if you want to give the Titans a loss and the Bills a no contest, that could work. But idk, awarding unearned wins doesn’t sit with me.

I would fine the team a big sum, fine the players involved in the rule breaking if you can, and consider some light draft pick docking (5th or 6th rounder) for first offense.

are we fining the players, coaches, owners, or all of the above? what type of draft pick? I think the punishment has to be severe enough to avoid this from happening again. the NFL stands to lose a ton of money if this gets worse.

    Fines and forfeits.

This is an outlier season. Just have to roll with it, oddness/fairness or not. The Steelers essentially didn't find out until later in the week that "hey, you're on your bye", the Patriots had to travel the day of a game. Fairness just isn't going to be totally in the cards if they're going to continue.
