The Steelers are wrecking us. Can't get anything going nor keep them off the field. Still, overtime win incoming.

It has been due. Offence bailing us out this season but you can't spot Pittsburgh what we've been giving up and expect to overcome it.

We look much better in the second half. Playing way harder.

Nearly called it. Great second half performance, Gostowski was due that after a shaky start to the season. Spotted the Steelers 20 and nearly got them.

Yeah you can't play the way we did and expect to beat a team like the Steelers. That first half was pathetic by the Titans. Came to play ball in the 2nd half but too little too late.

Jesus. Looks like the 49ers are back.

Doom and gloom in New England.

Meanwhile Brady is slinging it and just moved ahead of Brees for most touchdown passes of all time. 5 TDs for Brady today (4 passing 1 rushing).

Tom did what he did last season with this offense. Wow.

    He is the goat.

For the Pats, they need to put everything on the table for their matchup with the Bills next week. Absolute must win. And I think they can pull it off despite how bad they looked today. If they lose that, and go to 2-5, they can be sellers at the trade deadline (which would come 2 days later).

The Lions are back up to .500 because Atlanta couldn't help themselves from scoring a touchdown. Any other game it would be Detroit giving up that game.

    2020 is weird y'all.

DAMN! Arizona just wouldn't die and that ragged defense just did enough to keep the Cardinals in the game. This is the same team that lost to the Lions, but kept up with Seattle and made some beautiful picks on Wilson. What a spectacular game!

Nah. I remember the Panthers getting in at 7-8-1 in 2014 while winning a playoff game and the Eagles were kept out at 10-6. So I'll take it.

I still think the Niners finish at 8-8 with their difficult schedule.

I think the Eagles can go 7-8-1 or 8-7-1. I know it's not saying much but it would be a nice finish if most of their injured players come back for the stretch run. The offense can make some noise with Reagor, Fulgham, Ward, Sanders, Goedert, and Ertz,

They have plenty of time to return and get hurt again. It's Philly. That's what they're known for now.

It happens. I mean I think it was the year before Pete got to Seattle that they got into the playoffs winning the west with a 7-9 record. Pretty sure they won their first playoff game too.

It's an imperfect system but if winning the division doesn't matter then there's no point in having divisions.

If I'm PHI, I activate Jeffery this week, force-feed him targets, and then try to trade him at the deadline next week to a receiver-depleted playoff team after a game with an inflated stat line.

NE - their WRs have been bad and Cam has done well with big-bodied receivers
GB - Gute is rumored to have been inquiring across the league for WRs
SF - Samuel hurt again. Jeffery could be cheap insurance option behind Kittle/Aiyuk
CHI - doubt it'd happen with him/them but they don't have much at the position outside of Robinson
BAL - Depending on how healthy he is, why worry about trying to make Dez happen with a younger Alshon?
CLE - with OBJ's season-ending injury, they could be tempted to pull the trigger
Saints - they've been thrashed with injuries and I'm not convinced Michael Thomas even has legs at this point. They'll be clawing for the division against TB (and CAR) and could use a weapon at WR.
IND - only one game behind the Titans. Pittman expected to be the big bodied receiver we've seen Rivers connect with over his career but an injury derailed that. Giving him a healthy Alshon (if he's healthy of course) should help that passing game immensely.

Sounds like the Texans are looking to trade players for draft capital in order to entice a decent GM to take the job. I would imagine this means recievers since the Texans have a wealth of talent there (too bad it's not DBs. Logan Ryan we MISSSSS YOUUUU in TN).

Tough loss for the Patriots with Cam fumbling on the final drive, already in field goal position, down by 3 and driving towards a game winning TD. It was a nice play by the defender to punch the ball out. With the loss, falling to 2-5, I think their playoff chances are all but gone so I don't mind seeing them sell off some assets in the next 2 days if they choose to. I'm not sure Gilmore will get dealt now that he missed today's game with an injury. Covid rules make trades harder to happen this year, so there might not be a lot of activity.

I still think the Cam signing was great. He's handled himself with absolute maturity and grace and leadership (so far). The lack of pass catchers is a crippling weakness just like it was last year with Brady. The Pats pass game was anemic in the last half of last season and they didn't fix it. Yea Cam played poorly the last couple weeks after coming back from Covid but I think this is a bad situation for any QB so I don't put this on him. I wish I could see what he'd do in this offense with a downfield attack. He could be playing better, for sure, but having no playmaking WRs or TEs is not a recipe for success.

Pats (Cam. Mostly just Cam) deserve major credit for today. Should have won that game. Could have won that game.

I'd trade them Corey Davis and a 2nd for Gilmore.

The Pats get a "pat" on the back for almost winning and going 2-5? They suck. Any team that is 2-5 sucks. Fro is right, dismantle the team for draft picks and restart. Belichick's character on Gridiron Heights said "Patriots don't rebuild, we reload", but they are clearly going young after this season.

All of what I said above notwithstanding, the Patriots could go 6-3 the rest of the way and make the playoffs at 8-8 with the 7th wild card spot in effect. Don’t let them get hot!

You don't know me and probably don't care, but I sometimes feel like you say things like this to specifically piss me off.

Intentional or otherwise, it worked. I hope the Pats' chances of a playoff berth are as high as the Lions'.

Maybe they should move to the NFC East with where they are at the moment. They would have a shot at that division.

It always feels good to beat the Packers. Dalvin Cook is a beast.

Intentional or otherwise, it worked. I hope the Pats' chances of a playoff berth are as high as the Lions'.
It's the truth though. The Patriots still have a decent shot given the extra wild card berth. According to a Bill Barnwell article on ESPN I just glanced at, the Pats now have a 10% chance of making the playoffs. That ain't bad.

And surely the Lions have even better odds, sitting at 3-4.

Teams in the AFC better then the Pats:

    Baltimore
    Pittsburgh
    Cleveland
    Miami
    Buffalo
    Indianapolis
    Tennessee
    Kansas City
    Las Vegas

They "may" finish 7-9, but 6-10 looks way more likely. They will beat the Jets twice, which helps, and may pull out wins against Houston, LA and Miami. Honestly, they could finish 4-12.

And 8 games into the season, having a 10% chance to make the playoffs is - in fact - bad. To say it's not, is bad in itself.

The Lions are the Lions and I don't even see any team outside of the NFC West getting a playoff berth. If Chicago doesn't take the North, they ain't beating out the Rams and the Cardinals for the wild card.

7 team play off this season. With the Kittle injury I'd be surprised if it wasn't Tampa, Seattle, Green Bay, Philly, Rams, Saints and Cardinals, probably in that seeding order. AFC is definitely more open, with the lean being the Chiefs, Steelers, Bills, Colts, Ravens, Titans and Raiders being the order. The Browns and Dolphins have winning records and will be in with a shout, and I wouldn't write off the Bronco's either. In the NFC I'd happily write off every other team, Chicago can't keep leaning on the D to win matches.

NFC West about to start playing a lot of division games now. Rams could lose 4 in a row. Might not look like the same 3 team race it does now in a month.

    No way that happens.

Wildcard will come down to Indy, Cleveland, Baltimore, Oakland, Miami, and maybe Denver. Cincinnati would need a lot to go right to make up some ground.

While we're waiting for the lizard people to refuel on the blood of aborted babies so we can count all these votes...

The Titans have made me very happy by trying to right some of these wrongs that have cost them back to back losses.

Vic Beasely is G-O-N-E as in shit canned, outta here, buh bye Vic. This makes room for Derick Roberson, the 2nd year player, to start instead and I think he'll do much better. Couldn't do much worse. Vic has been a massive free agent bust. Not surprising as the Falcons had made it clear that they felt Vic no longer had any heart to play.

Worst DB in the league Jon Joseph (Jingleheimerschmidt) has been released. Thank God. The Bengals won by consistently throwing to whoever Joseph was covering. Granted he was never supposed to be an every down player. But Adore Jackson being hurt caused him to play way more than he should have and the 37 year old is SLOW and cannot play in this league anymore.

Replacing him will be Desmond King. Not nearly the assest he was in LA since the defensive scheme changed, he started to pout at the team and they wanted him gone and the Titans stole him for a 6th. King will fit in well with the Titans who stay in Nickel most of the time where King can play the slot. Very similar to the dearly missed Logan Ryan, he'll beat guys with physicality and smarts not speed.

    Huge upgrade.

Also gone is long snapper Beau Brinkly who fucking sucks. He has nearly gotten Brent Kern (best punter in the league) killed twice in the last two weeks due to bad snaps and finally the team did something about it.

While King may not play until next week I feel like the Titans have made the proper moves to improve the team and with Jackson coming back soon, hopefully we can start to look somewhat like the defense we had last year and start winning again.

if you took them to cover, you are looking great. if you took them to win outright, that was a damn gutsy bet.

the spread was 14.5 I believe

The Bucs got crushed. Huge let down in what should have been a good primetime game. Oh well. Hopefully just a blip for them, but given how they struggled to beat NYG last week, they need to get their shit together.

I didn't watch the whole game but AB looked fine from what I saw. 3 catches on 5 targets. I think he'll be a big help as he gets up to speed, and that offense could become a wagon if they get all the parts moving together, I mean they just have too many weapons. Obviously last night was a complete and shocking disaster though.

Pats vs Jets tonight. Not a very appealing MNF game, but I think it will be competitive given that the Pats are likely starting Lucas from the movie Lucas at tight end/wide receiver.

Pats should win, don't get me wrong, and they should try to do so by getting their rushing game going. Harris, Burkhead, White... do your thing. I expect the Pats to win by multiple scores but I'm taking nothing for granted at this point. It's a winnable game for the Jets if they play well.

I have a BBQ pulled pork roast in the slow cooker, looking forward to MNF tonight. The Jets are the worst team in the league. And it speaks volumes about how bad the Patriots are this year, that the Jets have a reasonable chance.

Belichek wouldn't tank both remaining games against the Jets, and the rest of the season, to screw the Jets out of the #1 pick in the draft now, would he?

As a Patriots fan, I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to it, if it meant we'd get Trevor Lawrence.

But I think Belichek wants to retire only after he surpasses Shula and Halas in total wins.

NFL owners approve playoff, diversity measures

Commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday that owners have voted to approve two measures:

    - Expanding to a 16-team playoff (from 14) this season if future games are lost because of the coronavirus pandemic. If that happens, there will not a re-seeding for the playoffs. The vote was unanimous.

    - Incentives to reward teams with draft pick compensation (two third-round picks) if they develop coaches and executives of color.

Teams that develop a minority assistant coach or executive who are hired for an open head coach or general manager position with another team would be awarded the picks at the end of the third round.
That diversity measure is pretty wild. Haven't had time to really think it through yet, but for now.. wow.

I'm not sure I like these incentives to develop "coaches and executives of colour".

The terminology seems pretty vague, but I guess I'd need to see the details. Same for what it takes to get two third round picks. *edit ignore, I should have looked at percussions post that shows more of the details.

Seems very performative all the same. I mean we've had the Rooney Rule for ages and I don't know how many times it's actually made a difference instead of bringing someone in for a literal token interview.

Someone in the comments of that tweet makes a good point. You're going to basically bar at least 3 teams from hiring an assistant coach from another team as you're not going to give your division rivals 2 draft picks.
Dolphins would be without Flores because we wouldn't want to give the Pats 2 third round draft picks.

Outside of promoting from within, this actually acts as a disincentive to hire a black coach.

If you've interviewed a few candidates and you are absolutely sold that Flores is the spot on man to run your football team are you really going to let a couple comp picks for a division rival allow you to hire a lesser candidate to do that very important job?

None of this would be needed if NFL teams simply took a longer harder look at hiring black coaches.

I mean the NBA doesn't seem to have this problem. Something has to be done. Hopefully it isn't a permanently needed thing but maybe for now this is a good move just to get the ball rolling in the right direction.

You'd hope not. But if you have two candidates that you're debating between, you'd go with the one that doesn't give an opponent a draft pick.

Even if it's not a direct division rival. Selections in the third round could be someone you wanted to select in the fourth.

Third round picks are still big time imo.

I get the concept of what you're saying, I just suppose I don't see a hung jury when it comes to hiring nfl head coaches and gms. Those positions are paramount in this league. Their value should certainly outweigh a couple comp picks. I think a candidate far more often stands out as THE man for the job rather than having to play eeny meeny miny moe.

And I'd assume most front offices think a HC/GM are big timer.

I think my suffering makes me the perfect person to say it. If Cal McNair selects our next HC/GM with comp picks in mind, my goodness.

So of course he'll make these next selections with comp picks in mind.

Yeah true. They'd be right. But like Pablo said maybe if it just helps nudge them in the right direction when they're on the fence between two coaches, one black, then it can be a good thing.

Definitely going to be interesting to see if it makes any difference.

Speaking of which, who do you want for the next HC?

Feels like the division is becoming increasingly more about offense than in the past.

I don't think it will encourage any actual hiring to be more for minority candidates. It's for the development of more quality minority candidates.

I guess the benefit is that it could increase assistant coach positions for minorities which I don't quite know the current numbers on.

    Eric Bieniemy.
    Brian Daboll.
    Robert Saleh.
    Arthur Smith.
    Dan Mullen.
    Lincoln Riley.

All of these guys interest me.

The talk in Nashville is that Arthur may be gone after this year and nobody really knows how to feel about it. I've come around on him. There was a time when it felt like he just had connections that helped him keep a job here even when every other coach would get booted after a staff change. I do believe he has a tendency to get too fancy with our bread and butter offense when he just needs to hand it off to Henry but overall I think he's a smart guy who knows what he's doing.

I don't think I'd like my team playing against him anyway.

I like how he's gotten the most out of Tannehill and I like his focus on quality oline play, these being to massive areas of concern for us.

I think part of my issue with him as our oc is that he wants Tannehill to be like a Watson and he's not. He tends to try and get a little more out of these guys than is actually there.

I feel like the Texans would be a good fit for him.

We made your d coach our head coach. You take our oc for your head coach. It's magic lol.
