Toni Storm vs. Rhea Ripley and the quality of the matches those two put together, when they were both new-ish on the scene and the UK brand was just starting out, helped put the NXT: UK brand on the map. Now that Rhea is as hot as she's likely to get without being main roster bound and Toni has a ton more experience and ring time, they're going to steal the show Royal Rumble weekend. I can't wait.

Yeah, my sub ends on 4th Feb, but January should be a strong month with TakeOver Blackpool II, Worlds Collide and The Royal Rumble.

Here, that 8-man should be lots of fun and cannot wait for Rhea and Toni.

Keeping the Network with my BT because I still like watching the past stuff plus Table for 3, Smoking Skull Sessions etc However will probably look into getting rid of Sky Sports now as mainly used it for Raw and SD. Depends on how much maney I'd save (I'm with Virgin).

I tried to cancel some of the Sky Sports channels and I ended up keeping them all, paying less and having Eurosport added.

I’ve got Eurosport too but my last monthly bill was £118 including landline and broadband.

I’ll see if I can get a better deal if I can chuck my Sky Sports and Eurosport. I don’t want to go through the hassle of changing providers but may have to if needed cos this is ridiculous.

Sky is a joke. Lost a lot of content that I watched (Champions League, La Liga, WWE, Australian Open, French Open, rest of the ATP tour), as well as not having Premier League fixtures on Boxing Day and New Year's, the two most watchable days when it comes to having a significant audience. They've traded the Champions League, La Liga and the tennis for NBA and enhanced coverage of the Championship. Yet keeping charging more while surely paying less on their end. Maybe the Premier League rights battle they got themselves into created an unsustainable business model without hacking away at the other premier deals they had? Either way, fuck 'em for charging that much. I managed to get a deal on Now TV that gets me all the sports for 9 months at I think £180, split with a friend and it's a tenner a month. And I'm not paying anything during June and July when there's fuck all on.

Who had NBA in the UK before Sky? Wasn't it always them? It's only ever on like after 11pm as well (not just the games, the discussion shows they have/docs/classic footage etc.)

If you do have Sky, it's definitely worth ringing up and threatening to quit if you haven't already. They'll always offer a better deal.

Channel 4 used to have an NBA program back in the day. It was great, they had the L’il Penny sketches. Back in the days when they also had Football Italia.

    I miss some the 90s.

ESPN before BT took over their sky channel I think.

We were deffo paying over £100 before. Called them with the intention of cancelling all the Sky Sports, barring the football. Got it down to £76 and gained Eurosport, better broadband and HD in everything. That all said, Sky Sports is clearly not what it used to be.

And yeah, NBA was on BT for a few years before Sky picked it up last season. Used to watch a bit, but not fussed now. Don’t watch a great deal on Sky Sports anymore, to be honest.

Turns out my contract was up anyway so have got Sky Sports removed and got it down to £73 a month. That'll do.

I'd love to see Bate/Dunne again.

I think it's time to see Bate and Storm on NXT proper after this event, regardless of what happens that weekend.

Card is now fully set for Saturday, updated in first post. Looks very Takeover-Lite like in terms of quality of the matches.

Great card for this show. Everything should be good. The 8-man tag, Balor/Ilja, DIY/MM and the 4-way could all easily steal the show.

i liked the balor match, everything looked very good. was enjoying this 4 way at the beginning but it's deep into diminishing returns territory, as these matches often tend to do.

    Niiice, Devlin deserves it.

The “X” is really just a plot device now. See Randy Orton.

Mauro would have been going nuts for this main event and DIY/Mustache Mountain.

True, but there's been some misfires in this match. I think they're making stuff up without Wolfe there, they're having to improvise a little.

The dude literally tucked his chin and got kicked in the chin and looked out of it. That's supreme selling or he got his bell rung.

That was great. But I'm still not sure who the heels were. The Undisputed Era, who are a bunch of pricks and wrestle like a pack of wolves running down an injured faun? Or, the squad of evil Europeans being led by The Incredible Hulk if he were a giant, Ronnie Garvin's "Hands Of Stone", Nazi?

Preshow match was pretty good. Plenty of spots in there and the crowd sounded like they were digging it. Felt like it was given more time than I thought it would get, and it was one of the better Yim matches I've seen in a while.

Bálor/Dragunov felt like it was clunky at first. It kind of felt like Dragunov was probably trying to be portrayed as a guy who should be given a chance by the audience but he's gotta be unfamiliar to most of those people and Bálor is going to get the love no matter what. Bálor did a good job in the middle portion, giving a lot, but then he took over. The right guy won.

I kind of wish that there was a week in-between the semis and the finals for the Dusty, simply for the fact that the Broserweights and YGV have been fantastic on the mic. Really looking forward to that match on Wednesday, especially with more stakes on the line.

That cruiserweight match was bonkers. I feel like it's pretty hard to mess up those multi-man matches because it allows you to go all gas and no brakes. Full Sail isn't built for the moment but I would laugh like hell if they started doing the Okada fast pan out for the wide shot when Garza rips his pants off. Those four guys showed out in a big, big way. I was pretty surprised Devlin won but he's been under the radar to a standard audience, he can go, he can talk. Just surprised to see Garza kind of come out of nowhere, get a big push but a short reign.

There's something to be said for suddenly created dream matches like DIY and Mustache Mountain. I think they did a nice job trolling each other in a lot of ways in the first portion of the match. That added good spice to the match and then it was just brilliant for the rest of the way. DIY versus Mustache Mountain is a cure for erectile dysfunction. Plain and simple.

Rhea and Toni had to really fight against the threat of the audience coming down from the tag match but it felt like they were able to keep them fairly engaged pretty much the whole way. That got awfully physical over the course of it as they were both dishing it out to each other. Overall, I thought it was pretty good but not as good as they had in the UK. Looking at it separately, it was a good match, but I'm assuming it's going to slide down quite a bit if it's compared to the rest of the compared, especially compared to the match right before theirs.

Good on the referee to see Wolfe was seeing stars and they took him out of there. Based on how the TLC match went with the ladies and Kairi Sane, glad to see they were more reactive this time around. Looked like Wolfe was bracing for the hit from O'Reilly and dropped the chin and changed the window for the kick so Fish caught him clean. Yikes. I imagine that's a weird situation to see for the other seven guys so props to them to move forward without a hitch. Match was pretty damn entertaining and Walter wrecked shop. He was presented as the absolute difference-maker for the match and came to play when it was his time to take things over. Right team win and the teasing of the end of the era for UE is in motion.

That PPV was fantastic. When Ripley/Storm and Bálor/Dragunov are you two lesser matches of the night, you had a heck of an effort. I'm not sure if they won casuals over to make NXT UK a must-watch but that brand came out looking pretty good.

Yeah, by all accounts (Beefy in the stands) Wolfe was pretty fucked getting out of the ring. Main Event did a great job moving forward, and I’m glad Walter got a ton of shine there, considering the bullshit of SS.

    Hope Wolfe is okay.

Helluva main-event, really good showing for Walter at the end. DIY/Moustache Mountain still takes match of the night for me though.

I think it was the first UK Takeover where they had that match. I recall it being pretty damn solid.

Right, cuz it was supposed to be Banks/Devlin, they shot an angle early in the day, taking Banks out and Sid introduced Balor.

Also if anyone should dethrone Walter, it has to be Bate in Walter/Bate 2.

I’ll keep ringing the bell to say Bate needs to be done with NXT UK and he needs to go to Full Sail. He’s young so he’s got time, but it feels like he’s hit his ceiling there.

Not really interested in beating Walter right now and Bate doesn’t need to be a two-time champion, after being the inaugural champ. Just send him to NXT. If Devlin is the champ, just allow those guys to tussle and let it be a soft entry to NXT proper for both.

Wasn't planning on watching this but the wife was out so I dialed it up and am very glad I did. Helluva show.

Yim/KLR was a really good match and exceeded my expectations.

Dragonov is a very odd looking guy. Match was alright but I feel like, after the fact, I'm mostly remembering it as a showcase for him with Balor not doing as much.

CW Title bout was pretty bananas. Good a time as any to mention: people really need to cut down on Destroyers, poison ranas, and top rope Spanish Flys for the love of gawd. Anyway, i quite liked this as it didn't feel like the usual formula where someone's always laying on the outside, it actually felt like all four guys were going at it the whole while. Devlin getting the win was a shocker to me and i dig it. Not overly familiar with the guy since I saw him in the two UK tournies but I've heard good things about how far he's come.

DIY vs. Mustache Mountain was everything. Holy shit. Don't know what else to say but it was absolutely bananas and on fucking point in every regard.

Rhea vs. Toni was good but paled in comparison to the rest of the show. Serviceable but didn't really get into the super high gears the rest of the card hit. I thought Yim/KLR was the superior women's bout, honestly.

Shame about Wolfe, hope he's not in too rough of shape, and very impressive by the rest of the boys for working damn-near the entireity of the match without him, some serious changes likely made on the fly. Real good stuff, loved big Walter smacking the shit outta guys in particular. I think the other tag match was superior but this still delivered.

Yeah expected a lot better from Storm and Riley. Was passable.

Perhaps because they’re both faces now, lacked that intensity.

There’s always been something missing with their matches and it’s been different each time. There’s a classic in there between the two of them. It’s just a matter of finding the magic. They’ve got time, though. Stupid young, both of them.

Let this be the loss. No one else there that I think he really needs to fight and who could benefit, at least not in the recent future. Move him on over, he can be in the UK every once in a while, and Trent can continue his role, as the veteran that picks up some wins, and has solid matches with guys on the rise.

Win lose or draw for Bate, I hope we still get Walter/Bate 2. Bate can certainly leave without needing the title but could be a nice feather in his camp becoming a 2-time champ all the same.

    Sky’s the limit with Bate.

Pete Dunne vs. WALTER is the real money match for me.

Every match, WALTER's biggest offensive difference maker is the big knife-edge chop with those gigantic, bear paw hands of his. Well, Mr. Nazi Hulk, try throwing a knife-edge chop with a few broken fingers. Try getting a guy up for that big powerbomb with some broken fingers.

    Yeah.

    That needs to happen.

I also, forgot they did that match on NXT: Takeover - New York.

But hey, bill it as a rematch.

His actual rating assessment was consistent with his initial review: He didn't like the fluff in the first half of the match.

I'm probably downgrading the main even more than I should but I just liked all of the people in the tag match while there's one or two in the main event that I'm not really that interested in. Meltzer didn't like the fluff early in the standard tag match but I thought it was good to suggest they respected each other and wanted to playfully jab at each other and then it got serious.

Much preferred DIY/MM over the main event. The "fluff" was part of the story and a valid, meaningful part of the match. Easily one of the best matches I've seen in awhile.
