Wilfred's Debate 2020: Official Sign-Up and Discussion Thread
Rajahites, its time.
Time to just stop practicing your arguments on how intergender matches are reflections of society. Time to stop playing around with debating whether Dolph Ziggler should go to AEW, or whether Cody will be an asset as a booker.
Stop just thinking about how you wish you could invent a time machine trade Rowdy Roddy Piper into the Attitude roster, and how that would be WAY BETTER than someone doing the same with Bruno Sammartino.
Its time to get real with this shit. And determine who the real king of IWC debaters is.
That's right kids.
The greatest internet wrestling debate is back.
Wilfred's Debate has returned
This debate is a Rajah institution.
This is the tournament where the cocky get humbled by some old guns. And those old guns ride on, right until some young gun with a dream and a keyboard knocks them on their ass.
Names are about to be made, and some legacies are about to cemented.
This has been a lot of fun for a lot of years, and its time for installment 14.
My noted debate tag team partner Mazer and I wanted to get this year's version off and running, and run the tournament this year. We've both won previously, and look forward to running the tournament consistent with the past, but potentially adding a few wrinkles.
To establish a baseline (thanks for consolidating these previously Cewsh):
- The tournament is conducted as an elimination style tournament. Think the NCAA Basketball tournament, just with fewer players.
- The first round of debates will be comprised of 2 posts by each competitor, each with a word cap of 350 words (word cap and post count may increase in later rounds). It used to be 3 posts in every tie including the first round but this is a new thing to try and speed things up a bit. Also the first round questions should not be too hard just to ease people in but will increase in difficulty when we get into the later rounds.
- All posts must be staggered. You can't make your next post until the other debater has had their turn.
- Pictures, gifs and videos can be used in literally unlimited amounts to support your point. Information should be self-contained within your post. For example, you can't post a link to an article and expect people to go read it. Quote it in your post.
- The winner of each tie will be chosen equally from 4 sources. 3 selected judges who will PM there votes to Mazer and myself and a public vote where readers can post who they won. Each judge's vote will be worth one point to the total score and the combined public vote will count as one point.
- If there is a 2-2 score in the total score of a tie after all the judging and public voting, then either myself, Maxer or perhaps a mystery judge will be asked to step in and break the tie.
- All votes must be backed up with solid reasoning. Anyone who just says stuff in their votes like "I voted for Mikey just because his argument was better or I agree with him" will be asked to elaborate on their vote further before it can be counted.
--------------
Ideally looking for 16 participants so we can get 4 rounds. I or perhaps Mazer could join in participating to make the numbers up but that is just in the event that numbers are short. We would be looking to start after the Royal Rumble so there is plenty time for sign ups so hopefully it won't have to come to that.
No prerequisites needed. Anyone can sign up. Now then, who's in?
