    Best and worst re-makes

With the news they are re-making Home Alone (terrible idea), originally was gonna just have worst re-makes but thought would try and be balanced:-

Worst re-makes I can think of:-

    Get Carter
The Italian Job (I actually stopped half way through it was so bad)
    The Wicker Man
Planet of the Apes (awful, awful, awful)

    Best

    Scarface

    Anyone else?

Is the Fly better than the original? I haven't watched it because the original is one of the best horror films ever.

No, but it's not a bad remake by any means. Similar to the Texas Chainsaw, nothing will top the original, but the remake is pretty darn good as well.

Yep. It's how I feel about the Night of the Living Dead 1990 version and the original. Personally, I like the remake with Tony Todd. But the original, very very good especially for the time it was put out and the message behind it. The Jeff Goldblum Fly, just as good if not better than the original but the original, awesome.

    Best:
    The Departed
    A Star is Born
    The Hills Have Eyes
    Scarface

    Worst:
    Point Break
    The Longest Yard
    The Mummy (Tom Cruise version)

I'll give bonus points to The Fast & Furious because it's absolutely a remake of Point Break.

I never thought of it until you compare the revelation scene in FF and Point Break. In the words of UFC's Mike Goldberg, "virtually identical" lol.

Fast just needed a cameo by Anthony Keidis.

Although I haven't seen it, I thought about the last Ghostbusters movie but then remembered it's not a remake....It takes place in a different universe. Whether that was their intention all along is up for debate, I can't say it's a remake just like I can't say Evil Dead II is a remake of Evil Dead I.

Speaking of Evil Dead, I'd put the remake from 5 or 6 years ago on a list of awesome remakes.

Not a remake though. The running theme in all of the Evil Dead movies is to basically re-tell the story and it goes off on a different vibe. Evil Dead 1, 2, and Army of Darkness all start with Ash and his gf going to the cabin. Sometimes with friends, sometimes alone, then about 10 mins in they go in a different direction.

I thought the newer one was a remake until I heard

    Worst remakes?

    Steel Magnolias 2012.

And it has nothing to do with them trying to turn it into Beauty Shop in the South.

Some dramas just dont ever need remakes. Especially the ones that were perfect the first time.

2003 Texas Chainsaw remake was good. So many visual ties to the original. Exactly what a horror remake should be imo. Don't stray from the story too much and just try to go for more gore and better effects.

Carpenter's The Thing is a remake of The Thing from Another World. I'm assuming that's what lotjx meant.

Jua saw the Child's Play reboot/remake last night.

I expected to hate it. I did not. Pretty good in fact. Though there were a few really dumb plot hole type moments.

I want to put it on the worst remakes list, but there's a part of me that wants to "Eh, it's not a remake, it's a reboot" like when they re-cast Spider-Man and Batman every other movie lol.
