Indy is good and was on my list, though I don't find myself with much of a desire to revisit the films.

From what I can tell, that 5th one is still very much up in the air and has not been greenlit for production. I'm sure Disney will do something with the franchise sooner or later because Disney likes money but it's very TBD how they will proceed.

The fourth one isn't nearly as good as the others, and I think more than anything it suffered from the 20 year long wait between films. Not only had the actors gotten older, but the audience changed as well.
I also think people were like, is Shia Lebouf going to be the new Indiana Jones? And if so, FUCK THAT. He had been in like 5 big movies leading up to that just boom boom boom one after another. Maybe a little too much Shia Lebouf? Lol

I haven't seen it, so maybe it's a decent action adventure movie. But I agree with you man, I think the gap was too much. Very very very few movies that I can think of going 10-20 sometimes 30 years in between and are actually good movies. 90% of the time, they're just cash grabs.

Forgot to submit mine, but my #1 choice would have been the Police Academy series. I have seen those movies more than any other series ever.

So, to clarify this is where we are so far:-

    10. Rocky
    9. Indiana Jones

I liked the first Rocky, but found the rest (I saw up to 4) pretty similar.

I'm with you though, I'd watch any Police Academy movie over a Marvel movie any day of the week.

I was way too late submitting mine so I will just post mine publicly.

My list will be nothing like most people because I basically haven't seen a new movie in the last ten years so my list skews very 80s-00s.

    1. Star Wars. Mainly the the first 3 but I count them all together. No other answer is acceptable.
    2. "Quentin's World". First cheat. Pulp, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill all take place with the same characters so I am counting them as a series.
    3. Indiana Jones. The first 3 are basically perfect summer blockbusters. I watch them like once a year still.
    4. View Askew-a-verse. AKA Kevin Smith's world. Second cheat. All feature Jay and Slient Bob so I count them as the same universe.
    5. Ocean's movies. Perhaps the most "rewatchable" series. Moves fast, has fun, no drama means a good time revisiting.
    6. Die Hards. Same as Ocean. The first movie is the best action movie ever. Period.
    7. Bourne. Reinvented the genre. No more insane FX. Back to practical stunt work.
    8. Back to the Future. Don't have a great reason…
    9. Lethal Weapon. Riggs and Murtaugh are great.
    10. Police Academy. Just had to mention it at least. Probably the series I have watched more than anything. From 8-11, all I did was watch those movies and professional wrestling.

You should really be shamed for having Police Academy so low on your list. At least on mine it made #6.

I was trying not to skew the overall results too much but that is not a good excuse.

Just for _me, the lowest spot would be 8 but I probably would put them 5th or 6th. I really enjoy the Ocean's movies and Kevin Smith's movies ultimately passed them too so that is as high as I can go.

Omitting Rocky is my biggest mistake when submitting my list.

Out of all of them I have to say Rocky 3 is my favorite. The best is probably Rock 2, but my favorite hands down is 3. There's so much going on but it doesn't feel cluttered. Mr T is the perfect "villain" and their fights look awesome. Obviously Thunderlips is incredible and I love that Stallone told Hulk he didn't want any light shit, he wanted it to look real! The story with Mickey, the story with Apollo helping Rock. The iconic running in the beach scene.

It didn't dawn on me until years later that the LJN red and white Hulk Hogan figure that I owned was actually a nod to Rocky 3 and his Thunderlips color scheme. Maybe it was unintentional idk.

You know what really makes these movies including the later ones like Rocky 6 and the Creed movies? The soundtrack. Rocky 1-4 soundtrack=amazing. I love that slick guitar solo in the Rocky theme song.

My dad was a big Rocky fan. He wanted to name my brother Rocky but they settled on something else lol. But my mom told me that when they first met back in 1979 my dad would do the exact same morning workout as Rocky with the eggs and everything. Fuck that shit lol.

Going to see Rocky was my mom and dad's first date.

I enjoy the series but if I'm honest, I really only like Rocky, Rocky II, and then the two Creeds. I do love the joke in Dirty Work where Chevy Chase says he blames Mr. T for some of his gambling debt and then Norm says "wait, Mr. T? Did you bet against Rocky?"

This was number 2 on my list.

Just a fucking incredible set of films, particularly the first two. People rag on the 3rd one, but I think despite some flaws, it is still a good film.

The cast, direction and score are simply incredible. It is a who's who of 20th century talent, I don't think any series comes close in terms of acting.

I didn't even consider it as a series. Not sure why. 1 and 2 are perfect.

At least the first two ASAP. You will not regret it.

The third should be watched to complete the story but is not of the same class.

Rom: Have you ever watched the chronological version? I never have but always wanted to. It would be weird seeing DeNiro first but I need to try it at least once.

Really enjoyed the first Godfather film. Saw it about 3 years ago. For some reason, I've never got around to seeing Part II. Crazy seeing how it's so well regarded.

Then again, there are loads of blockbusters I've never seen, so.

Yeah I did. It actually works very well, and there are some additional scenes for the De Niro ones which adds to it. Well worth doing.

Some would argue that II is more superior too I (far bigger scale, trying to balance two separate stories 40+ years apart). I am not sure I agree with that (Brando tips I for me) but I can see the argument. Definite 5 star classics, 1 and 2.

2 is basically two different, slightly related movies edited together. But either half would be an incredible movie alone. The fact that it has both and makes them fit together is why it is an all-timer.

I'm pretty sure I've seen all 3 at least once some point in my life. I was more into Casino and Goodfellas. Definitely a classic though so it's nice it made it. So far so good on the top 10!

Godfather was my #9. So very well acted and the first two have held up well over the years.

Definitely looking forward to The Irishman.

Goodfellas is in my top 3 movies of all time. Can't not watch it if it's on TV.

I've seen Godfather 1 &2 a decent amount. 3 never really pops into my consciousness. miss on my part.

I love the Indiana Jones series. 1&3 are prime examples of the genre for me. And hold up very well. 2 I also enjoyed, and probably fake reenacted the heart ripping out scene dozens of times as a kid. That might explain a lot.

Also, decades later, I will still occasionally tell someone that somethings being looked at by "top men"-hoping that they will ask "Who?", just so I can tersely reply "Top....men". Any year where I can complete that exchange is a success.

I prefer Godfather I to Godfather II.

I cannot stand Michael's haircut in the third film. I'm sorry but Michael Corleone would not get this cut.

Its because part 3 is shit. Thats been a theme with all the entries so far, they all have at least one part that was terrible, especially when compared to the other films in their own series.

I don't think it was shit, it just wasn't as good as the others. Maybe a 3 start film, whereas the first two are easily 5 star ones.

What if they give Duvall the money and he says yes? What if Winona doesn't drop out for Sofia? I don't think anyone has any idea what Part 3 could have been…

This is the grand daddy of them all to be honest. I am biased being a Brit and all, but as far as I am concerned this is the film series that all others are measured by.

Incredible that this franchise has now been going for 57 years!

Yeah it's hard not to appreciate the Bond movies. The gadgets, the women, the swagger, the accent, the villains, even the henchmen were interesting.

I'm only really familiar with Goldeneye to present James Bond films. I've seen Dr. No but don't think I've seen any of the other pre-GoldenEye films.

I absolutely loved Casino Royale. Been 13 years since I've seen it and I can't remember jack about it, but loved it. Seen all Craig's, with the exception of the last one. Had it recorded on my Sky Plus for about 2 years.

Never seen a Pierce Brosnan Bond.

    Everyone loves Goldfinger.

I've probably only seen maybe a third of them.

Classic series but I only put it 7th. Thinking on it that was also a very low rate and I’m regretting some of my higher placed ones now. I definitely voted with instinct and not my mind for many of these.

The Bond films really started the franchise film industry, glad it made it.

I love the Rome conspiracy stuff. The rest is Francis being told, we are doing this with or without you and scrambling to get the cast back on the fly. The rumored plot was Tom vs Michael which would have lead to Michael dying alone as he killed everyone or Michael being stopped by Kay, I think. Michael dying alone in three makes me think that is the original ending for the film. Coppola's commentary for III is fantastic as he does not give a shit. Talks about how his parents were cousins, the second unit team filming Sophia scenes behind his back and how cheap the studio was.

I dont care for Bond films. Never have really. A film doesn't have to be high art for me to enjoy it, but I just find Bond films incredibly boring.

These were my top pick, but I admittedly was tempted to rate them at 007th

I have seen all of them, several multiple times, and even when we had Lazenby or Roger Moore or even Brosnan, they paled in comparison to Sean Connery. I admit I have grown to love Craig in the role, as they are mighty big shoes to fill, and he owns the role.

Bit surprised this one is so high, I have seen all of them once and liked them, in particular the last two.

Great films no doubt, but these weren't on my list.

Yeah I'm shocked but I'm not, if that makes sense. In terms of the Capt America, Iron Man, Guardians, etc. I would say Cap is my favorite. I prefer the Avengers movies with them all together like Age of Ultron, Endgame, etc. but the Captain America movies, fucking great. Civil War and Winter Soldier, holy shit they're great movies.

I always wondered if the Godfather movies were just good because for 40 years people have been saying they're good, but are they really? I watched Casablanca, it was fucking lame. I've never seen the Godfather movies so I can't speak on it. But you know how it goes with certain albums, movies, books. Back in 1973 they were the shit, in 2019 people are like "what the fuck is this?"

The Captain America series was fourth on my list. I thought each was better than the one before it, with Civil War being amazing.

Not a single series on my top 10 have made it to this top 10. 2 of them have to be on the list, they're too iconic and beloved to not be. I do have Avengers on my top 10 but at the time I wasn't thinking the entire 20,000 movie list but the 4 Avengers movies. I do believe in the top 10 action movies list I did have either Civil War or Winter Solider, I think it was Civil War.

The Captain America movies are incredible though.

Yeah I mean it's hard for me to look at these movies and think people are wrong and they're not truly awesome. I was just curious when thinking about people voting for these movies that maybe some were just not familiar enough or maybe it just didn't appeal to many in comparison to say Captain America. Because that also means those who voted thought it was better than Rocky, Indiana Jones, and Bond.

But like me maybe some just rushed the list and are now going fuck I should have put Godfather or Rocky on my list, instead I put GI Joe with Channing Tatum....

The 3rd Godfather is awful and I don't think just in comparison to the other two. Two out of 3 great movies is not a good movie series.

It depends on how good those other 2 movies are. Look at Rocky. In reality, if we're looking at the first 6 and leaving out Creed 1 and 2, you maybe have 3 really awesome movies with the rest being passable at best (1-3=awesome, 4-6=ok to shit) So I think you can get away with Godfather 3 being awful if the other 2 are fucking incredible that they make up for what lacks in 3.

WITH THAT SAID, considering I've never seen any of them, I can see your point and it's valid. It could very well be what keeps Star Wars off this list if people only found New Hope and Empire truly great but the rest terrible or mediocre.

Realistically I just forgot about Godfather, because some of the movies I've sent I also sent on the strength of two movies and those two movies were nowhere near the quality of Godfather I or II.

I forgot about Rocky and it's one of the most influential movies of my life. Even Rocky 5 has an extremely special place in my heart as it was one of the first movies my mom took me too that wasn't a movie directed toward kids. I remember leaving the movie wanting to sign up for boxing and being like Rocky Jr. Gave up on that dream 2 hours later lol.

    I forgot about Godfather.

my approach on these was my personal enjoyment, based on the opening post parameters. I would never defend all Rocky movies above some of these others as "better movies". Rocky 4 is basically 5-10 minutes of plot, then a musical number/montage. But I honestly love it, and get hooked every time its on tv. I've watched the Capt America series several times, enjoy them with my daughters, and have Winter Soldier and Civil War among my favorite movies in the last several year.s. Certainly, there are better movies, but I go back to them for enjoyment a lot.

And that is fine. Not everyone has to like the same things. But you were way overstating it when you tried to dismiss all films made in the past. They are not only good because of a lack of options or that it was a simpler time.

I personally didn't try to dismiss anything. As a wrestling and music fan I deal with it all the time. Oh the Attitude Era wasn't that good, Bruno was only over and selling out MSG because that's all they had. Music, same thing, oh NWA isn't that good, 2pac was good for his time, Nirvana isn't that great, etc.

So it's not out of the box to wonder, are these movies true classics or were they just labeled as such and it suck all these years? Many people will go back and watch a "classic" and think "Eh, must have been just a great movie for it's time because it doesn't really hold up" . So it's nothing personal, I'm just asking in general. Like I said about Godfather, I can't imagine it's just people blowing smoke when you think of the cast, the accolades, but on the flip side I can see several people here posting that they never really cared for the movies......

Generally speaking, I agree. I just think there is a pretty big difference between things that were popular for a moment in time but are then basically forgotten and things that have withstood the test of time for generations.

Did you seriously just say The Godfather isn't a good movie series?

Calling 1 and 2 "two great movies" is being glib. They are two of the greatest films ever made.

Two movies out of a 3 movie series being among the best of all time does make a good movie series.

Well, you are wrong. It's not as great as I and II. The Rome conspiracy, Michael facing a younger threat and trying to do everything to redeem himself before the end are good things. It's the rest of the film that is junk. It's a three star film to a five star series. I will agree Cap has the best films.

Totally agree about the Godfather Part III. People shit on it because it isn't as good as the first two - the first two are probably in the top 10 of all time. Very high bar. I still enjoyed III a lot.

    Re: number 5

Wasn't on my list. Like Captain America series, seen them once and enjoyed them but nothing beyond that. Will be interested to hear arguments for this one.

I haven't seen the fourth yet but I still put it on my list because to me the first 3 were the perfect kids movies that were also enjoyable for adults. I remember when they announced the third movie was coming out and thought it would be just some cheap cash grab that didn't need to be made but was proven wrong with what was my favourite of the three. I've heard good things about the fourth as well. In terms of the first three I consider them to be a great progression from one movie to the next, a great movie series.

Oh wow did not expect Toy Story but I have to say it definitely deserves a spot on the list. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's arguably the best family movie series, possibly the best kids movie series. I say family though because I really enjoyed these movies from the time I was 14-15 until the newest one and my kids love them as well, even my oldest son who cares more about Jun Kasai's well being than finding a job lol. Just kidding.

For the wide age range it appeals to and satisfies, while some might argue it being in the top 5, I don't disagree with the placement at all. You could literally take any type of person, any age, hard to find movies that appeal to so many people and actually pull it off.

I wouldn't have included it on my list but you can't really complain about it either. Very good movies and gets bonus points for its very wide range of audience (Men, women, old, young). Much better than the Captain America series IMO

I didn't even read yours and I basically said the same thing (though you stated it much better). Great minds think alike…

I've only seen the first Captain America and Civil War (I think). Of all the Marvel heroes, I only really like Thor and the rest eh. Best film series it is not, for me.

I would rank Toy Story and Captain America above The Godfather, looking back at it. Cap America is quality viewing from start-to-finish and also probably the most story-driven Marvel Series. Evans is wonderful in the role, and there are great sub-characters as well.

Toy Story is a classic series.

Outside of The Godfather 1 and 2, 3 is mediocre. GF 2 is a classic. The series as a whole is hindered by the 3rd movie.

A quick note - for this one I included anyone who voted for MCU in this as otherwise the voting just wouldn't have worked with others who had voted for individual series within MCU etc like Captain America.

I had this as number 9 on this my list...perhaps I should have had it a bit higher because they were fantastic (Ultron aside which was decent). I just don't know how often I will go back and watch these whereas the ones who are higher I would.

I know I'll get hate for this, but I think Toy Story is one of the movies where the sequel is better than the og. TS2 is almost flawless.

People love these Avengers movies, so I can see why it's on the list, I'm surprised it's this high though.

Also, I'm really sad that none of my favorite series is going to make this list, because I know what 1 & 2 are going to be, and the 3rd, I'm pretty sure it's not going to be any of my top 10.

Avengers was my #1. The 4 mentioned, not just great super hero movies, they're simply great movies. Some of the best action, drama, character development I've ever seen on screen. Some of the best actors of all time are deep in the mix. The villains were nothing short of incredible (Loki, Ultron, and Thanos).

And if you want to Voltron the entire MCU I'm digging that because overall, it's incredible what they accomplished and are going to keep accomplishing. But these 4 movies, wow, nothing better in terms of "series" imo.

Seems too high for Dark Knight. I'll take Fast and Furious and those other two.

As a mega Batman fan I found it saddening that I couldn't put any of the "series" on the list. I wanted to put the Keaton movies, but just those 2 alone I didn't think were better than the 2+ movie series' I put on the list. The Nolan stuff, I'll be honest I didn't care much for Batman Begins, possibly my least favorite Batman movie including Batman v. Superman and Batman and Robin. The Dark Knight was incredible, the other 2 movies were too mediocre to put on the top 10.

I do have Fast, Star Wars, and LOTR on my top 10. I mean shit, I literally took a day off of work when the Return of the King came out on DVD so I could watch all 3 in a row lol. But yeah, it still didn't beat out Avengers.

Fast cars, not a fan. Vin Diesel, not a fan. Just seems like it's not my cup of tea. However I do like Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham so who knows? I thought about catching Hobbs & Shaw this summer, as I had read you didn't need to see the films in the main series to understand or enjoy it.

See, I thought the first one was dope, 2nd was ok...but I really fell in love when The Rock came on board.

If you're a fan of Rock and Statham, definitely check out Hobbs and Shaw. You don't need to see all the other movies for it to make sense, 2 guys who don't get along being forced to team up. So basically every tag-team The Rock has ever been in lol. Rock and Statham are easily my 2 favorite action stars of the modern era. Too bad we never saw The Rock in an Expendables movie.

You absolutely know he's rebooting that franchise in 20 years.

After he completes his second term as US President.

Will he have also been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame? If so, I think we should just elect people from the WWE Hall of Fame as presidents. I'm going to do a write in vote for Sunny next year.

Fast 5 to 7 is a nice little trilogy with The Rock’s introduction and the best run of the series.

Toy Story was number 4 on my list,. Incredible films with lovely comedic and emotional moments and the work put in by Pixar is second to none. Each one is better than the last with the possible exception of Toy Story 4. I still loved it, but the ending to Toy Story 3 is perfection.

It’ll be a shame if neither Bourne or John Wick make this list. Can’t see it happening when we’re this far in. Both are amazing sets of films which redefined the action genre in their own ways.

I could see Bourne considering Capt America made it to #6. If this were "action movie series" they both would deserve a place. John Wick, so good. I'm not much of a Bourne fan but I can appreciate the movies.
