HBO v. Showtime: Who delivers the best original shows?

Which do you prefer and why?

Showtime doesn't have the history obviously, but over the last 10-15 years they've really stepped it up in the original programming department. But it's hard to dispute HBO's 30+ years of original programming.

I'm Team HBO. Dating back to when I was a kid watching Tales from the Crypt, Def Comedy Jam, and Dream On (Yeah buddy!), then fast forward to shows like Oz, True Blood, Game of Thrones, and that's just an extremely short list.

But the answer is HBO. Showtime has really stepped it up but HBO is just on a whole other level.

I think you have to extend it to the 3 streaming services as well (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime) these days

90s HBO was great. Tales from the Crypt, Dream On (nice call, btw; I haven't thought about that show in forever, also Real Sex and Taxicab Confessions), the Spawn cartoon, Larry Sanders, Mr. Show, Oz.

So many of my favourite all time shows are HBO shows.

Treme, The Wire, The Sopranos, Eastbound and Down, Game of Thrones (before the last 2 shit seasons), Boardwalk Empire, In Treatment, Curb...

Yeah it has to be HBO for me as well. The Wire, True Blood, Boardwalk Empire, Newsroom. And that's not even counting the shows I didn't watch like GOT, Sex and the City, or Sopranos.

Showtime has Shameless though, which is a top 5 all time show for me. But that's pretty much it for Showtime.

I just wasn't sure if we had some people who put Showtime ahead of HBO in terms of quality over quantity, if that makes sense? Because as Big Al said, Shameless is one of the best shows out there, I'd put it in my all time top 10.
