Great episode so far. Keeping the matches shorter, Hangman/Pac was great, awesome Jericho/MFJ promo, love this angle with Santana and Ortiz.

They're still growing here, but it's just so much more exciting and better written than WWE right now.

This has been easily the best episode so far. Seems like they are figuring out the right ratios of wrestling to angles to promos.

It's remarkable how over Luchasaurus is with the crowd.

Allin and Moxley is a good pairing. I'm curious how they try to mix it up versus what Darby has done with Cody and Jericho.

The Jericho/MJF thing had some promise and then it went to rehashing when Jericho was teasing dissension with Kevin Owens.

Seems like they did a nice job of mixing matches, character development, chaos, and promo time. I thought they did a nice job of cycling in new talent with the PPV out of the way.

Nick Jackson mentioned on twitter that rather than have win/loss records go on and on, there would be a reset at some point. Like a new season. I really like that idea.

Anyone else see an AEW Title shot in Scorpio Sky’s future?

He pinned the champion and he’s been on a roll lately. Giving him a TV main event against Jericho wouldn’t be a bad idea.

The way he reacted to the win seems to imply that. Kind of an odd choice, but it came about organically, and he's crazy over after the tournament. It'll definitely make for a solid TV main event. I'm not too sure where it goes from there unless CD is involved, but it almost seems like he's destined for some shit with Pentagon.

the replay i watched didn't have the picture-in-picture shit, so how long did that bucks/p&p brawl go for on the main screen? the beginning felt like it went on forever without much happening.

That sounds amazing. I've only seen his spot with Tommy Dreamer in the Casino Battle Royale, and that time he dove onto a bunch of guys with his hands in his pockets. I'd like to see him wrestle.

That's not really an AEW thing. Both CD and Emi Sakura had those gimmicks before AEW started. Well, CD might have not quite been there, so I might agree with him.

    It is very ignorant, though.

Weird half-baked out the box idea given I haven’t seen this latest episode yet and won’t until after tomorrow night given ITV schedule. Whenever Cody comes back from injury, Cody can’t challenge for the title but to avoid possible WWE copyright “Starrydust” gets revenge on MJF and challenges Jericho down the line.

Really looking forward to a Jericho/Sky Dynamite main event in the coming weeks.

Solid episode. Didn't dislike anything and I bloody love Darby Allin. Him and Mox is going to be fun.

I honestly didn't see how this wasn't going to be the solution lol. They reset in other sports, so this should be no different.

I think they'll abandon the idea of win/loss records after a while. It's cool and all, but I don't think it really works in the wrestling world.

You might be right in the long run, but the reset concept makes it completely workable. They only have to follow the ranking for like 6-12 months, then they can start fresh and go whatever direction they want.

They've actually handled the concept of rankings really well so far. I like that I haven't watched AEW Dark, but when Allie randomly appears on my screen, they explain that she's been working her way to Dynamite by climbing the rankings through Dark matches. That's solid, subtle, and workable storytelling that doesn't need any kind of immediate payoff.

it would be cool if they made an explicit rule that you had to have a certain win/loss ratio or number of wins in singles matches to challenge for the title. they could build scorpio/jericho by scorpio having to take on singles matches every week to get his record good enough to challenge and the inner circle can keep trying to screw him. good way to build for a month or so up to the title match.

Absolutely. Would be cool if 1 'season' was scheduled ahead of time just to see how that could work. If you knew you were facing X in 3 weeks etc what sort of build or interesting things could they do.

Matches aren't necessarily grudge matches etc so story telling can be a bit different. I think it makes PPV's harder though

There are only a few things I have enjoyed about AEW.. MJF, PAC and the Lucha Bros(mainly because Pentagon Jr is one of my favorite current wrestlers).. the rest of it doesn't really interest me thus far. I find it hard to watch without fast forwarding through a lot of it.. I hope that changes as time goes on.

It only works in real sports because there is a huge gap between seasons.

Now imagine you're the Boston Celtics. Your record is 100-30 but then the next week, it's reset to 0-0. All that hard work, for nothing.

Put that in wrestling land. Moxley goes 25-4 and the next day he's back to 0-0. And he didn't even get a title shot because of scheduling and booking ignorance.

Why don't they just hit up the folks who track all the wrestlers wins/losses online and just have them sent over AEW data weekly?

Id be a fan of them keeping the records full on. Use old school boxing as a guide. You had old timers with 50 loses become champions or top contenders, younhad good boxers with over 100 loses. What they need to do then is tell the story of how they started off slow but got better with each match and worked their way up the ladder.

The main problem they have with records being meaningful is that if someone gets hot they cant hotshot them into the main event without putting work in first, building theor record whereas sometimes in wrestling people can jump up the roster very quickly.

If they don't make every angle centered around rankings as the end all be all they'll be fine. MMA does it all the time, giving low ranked or even unranked fighters big fights based on storyline and/or drawing power.

I think it's more the finals than the gap between the seasons right?

Like if AEW had finals month that built to their biggest POV of the year which was KOTR style for the different divisions with a semi and then final that might be kinda nice.

Next TV show you can have them getting their championship rings or whatever and the belt becomes more like the yellow jersey at the tour de france

Fenix vs. Nick Buck was a solid opener.

that fenix/nick match was way better than any of the bucks/lucha bros tag matches. going under 15 minutes was a big reason why.

Sure feels like there’s less potential for a lot of overly complicated, car crash bullshit in a singles match. Less moving parts and two less guys trying to get all their shit in.

There’s two people in this battle royal who should win; Hangman Page or MJF.

Several guys who should quit the business and go deliver pizzas: Jimmy Havoc, Sonny Kiss, Chuck Taylor and The Pocket Tard.

    And then there’s everyone else.

I can’t believe it. An actual tag-team match has just broken out here.

There’s tagging in and out. Actual heat on one of the babyfaces.

Did the spirit of Jim Cornette’s career agent this match?

Darby Allin is AEW’s Jeff Hardy.

Jon Moxley could be his Undertaker.

Opener was fun, certainly helped by the fact that it involved the more interesting performers from the respective tag teams. The teams have great chemistry together but you can tell that Rey and Nick are just the crazy ones and aren't scared to try anything. It's incredible that they can crank out these types of performances and still come back for more pretty frequently.

Still not feeling anything related to The Dark Order.

I don't know what it says about Billy Gunn getting the spots he had and looking physically imposing compared to most of the participants but it is what it is.

The Jericho/Sky segment was a little long but it was good. The setup was solid. The tag champs should be a team with no prior history. That gives the rub to Sky and allows to elevate him for a couple of weeks. Hager/Luchasaurus will be good business, too, whenever it happens.

Fun main event. Those were two styles that worked together very, very well. A hidden takeaway was the fact there was a young female and a kid in Allin makeup. That shows that AEW is able to connect to a young audience and that has to be very exciting for them.

Billy Gunn is like Godzilla compared to half of All Petite Wrestling's roster. Honestly, the only guy in that match who doesn't look like a middle school kid or an absolute dork ass idiot was Adam Page. Even MJF looks like a little weasel, punk ass. But that works for him.

MJF looked good in the ring with Billy. But yes, Billy was superior to almost everyone in that match. It's ridiculous. Gunn and Swagger were average in WWE, but it's obvious they are superior in AEW. Imagine if a guy Like Strowman ever came over... insane.

Do you think guys like Gunn and Swagger and Strowman truly are average, or do you think WWE just held them down from their true potential? And does that mean that AEW is pushing them due to their name recognition?

Kenny Omega doesn't seem very tough to me.

Kenny probably couldn't strap a bucket of fried chicken to his back and run through a starving African village without getting his ass kicked and his chicken stolen.

Its not a format hes excelling at but it has only been seven weeks so plenty time for him to shine.

Id prefer AEW to cut down to one hour a week tbh and be more like how NXT was with different wrestlers each week, that makes them seem nire important when they do turn uo and it cuts out the rubbish oarts when they need filler or have nothing for sone guys to do.

With Omega at some point they will either have to have him go on a winning run through to the title or turn him heel.ut plenty time before that.

One of the problems of not having a deep roster is that were already getting cinstant rrepeat matches, Omega v Pac again this week after Pac v Page repeat last week.

The roster needs more depth. Jerichos already been in with Cody, Omega, Paige, Allen and this week Scorpio Sky and were only seven weeks in. By Christmas he'll have wrestled everyone on the roster.

The Christmas Eve AEW Dynamite will see Chris Jericho defend his AEW World Title against John Silver, Sonny Kiss, QT Marshall, and Peter Avalon.

It'll be beaten in the ratings by the USA Network broadcast of The Miz's "Christmas Bounty", which preempts NXT for the night.

It's a quandary of sorts. They really need to establish a pool of talent but they need to "play the hits" in order to get viewership. That's one thing NXT clearly has in its favor. They've got talent in spades but it's proven talent. Whether it be on WWE TV in some form or fashion or independent talent, those people already have a following. After a certain level down on the list, AEW doesn't have that at this moment.

    Exactly.

Jericho is working to put over young talent and help build AEW's next star. There is nothing wrong with his opponents to this date.

cody gets people exciting about what should be the hottest feud in the promotion and then two random nobodies come out and have a very awkward segment. cody's usually smarter than to book something like that.

it's relatively weak but still better than any episode of RAW in about five years. gotta have perspective.

Scorpio/Jericho is like Ric Flair asking to work with Bobby Eaton or Ricky Morton or Hawk back in the 80’s.

AEW makes old-school booking new again.

I feel like they're rehashing matches from PPVs and that's probably helping with storylines but it's kind of killing the buzz to see the matches again. It's such a slippery slope because you've got to put your top guys on TV a lot to maintain viewership but it feels the slate needs to be freshened up a little more.

How about no more commentators who actually aren't commentators?

what the hell are you talking about? omega vs pac was a 'rehashed ppv match' from nearly three months ago that had a decent reason for happening. they closed out the pac/page series pretty quick. what else is getting rehashed? they've done an amazing job of not falling into the wwe formula of booking the same match for multiple shows and ppv's in a row and beating it into the ground.

honestly, the biggest reason why i love aew is because it's given me a show that i just take in and enjoy the watching. i feel zero need to jump in a half hour after every show is over and break down what's gonna do good business or how they're gonna maintain viewership. i just wanna be a fan of something and not a fucking third party internet analyst.

Those instances resulted in 50/50 booking, I believe, so that feels like a waste.

You’re more than allowed to observe and enjoy the show as you’d like. More power to you. Alluding to a critique of how I watch it seems silly.

If you took the internet out of anything, you're most likely going to enjoy it much more. Most internet analysis tend to be negative, from my experience. Something can be so good, but there will always be those who will say it sucks. Just ruins the experience. Time to pull the plug.
