Personally I think Taz has been on and off with his promos and mixed about the FTW thing as that basically said “Oh I’ll give him a title anyway as he’s not beating Mox.” Personal opinion though.

NXT’s announcement while could have been bigger was also kinda expected as Lee couldn’t be relied on to defend both titles although they could’ve milked that a bit longer

Being realistic enjoying both products overall, AEW at the moment have the bigger audience and personally don’t think that’s as much down to NXT doing anything wrong as such.

within the context of the show and story, it all made sense. taz gave him the FTW belt cause that night was supposed to be the night he was crowned the AEW champion, but moxley 'had the chicken shits.' so to further hype up his man, and symbolically allow the crowning to still happen and to keep the spotlight on his client, he brought back his own personal title belt and awarded it to cage. sometimes as a fan you have to purposefully forget or ignore what we can infer happening thanks to how long we've been watching and paying attention to behind the scenes shit.

I love AEW and often prefer it to NXT and for sure against Raw and SD mostly. But Dave and Alvs love in and Tony Khans incessant tweeting do annoy lol.

Man, I never thought for one second I'd say this, but AEW, against all odds, have somehow managed to make me enjoy Peter Avalon, Leva "Blue Pants" Bates, and Brandon Cutler. And all they did was team up Avalon and Cutler on AEW Dark. Somehow, these two guys, neither of whom would get my attention if they were on fire in front of me, managed to gel into a perfectly good "mismatched partner" team, on the stupid Youtube show nobody actually watches. And they've been quietly, and I mean very quietly, having great, fun matches that nobody's talking about.

And you can tell they're having fun with it. Peter Avalon still looks like a half-empty tube of toothpaste with a head and Brandon Cutler looks like he got lost on the way to a D&D game for a Youtube channel nobody watches, but it looks like they're having a damn blast every time they come out to wrestle. Cutler rolls this stupid, multi-sided D&D die, and Leva Bates looks so genuinely Goddamn happy to pick it up and show it to the (lack) of an audience what he rolled.

And yeah, they're a jobber team. They've jobbed on Dark, in fun and solid matches, to The Dork Odor, The Blade And The Meat Gentleman, and The Young Bucks -- but they always look good. Avalon is fine, but Cutler especially has some talent. If he didn't look skinny enough to fall down a crack in the sidewalk and never be seen again, they could probably do something with him.

For whatever reason, Leva Bates seems to have been removed from any active competition. But she, as a manager, started doing the old "Lita spots", doing 'ranas and crossbody blocks to the guys. She body-blocked The Meat Gentleman in a match last week, and 'ol Every Time I Botch somehow managed to both almost drop her and then smash her face into the barricade. She didn't even sell it, but they kept the camera on her while she fumbled and fucked around with her glasses.

So kids, if you're going to do a dive, take your eye wear off first, okay?

Anyway, its like I've been saying, if you haven't been watching AEW Dark, you should be.

Dynamite is obviously the show where all the important shit happens. Dark is the show where a wrestling match, occasionally, breaks out. Most of the jobbers are QT Marshall's wrestling school students and he seems to do a damn good job training them. Its fun shit.

I think I've missed roughly the past month of Aew Dark episodes, lol. They do hold a pretty decent show though, especially considering it's their B show. I might try and watch some episodes tonight.

In-ring? Genuinely couldn’t tell you. I just love the gimmick and after watching this documentary on him, I just want the guy to have all the success

He's pretty good at working within his limitations. He's a little bit taller but he works like Spike Dudley or Jimmy Jacobs and the Ultimate Warrior. Better than Warrior(RIP) but not as good as Spike and Jacobs, although he does better against better opponents. I think Cody is on the better end these days. As for the gimmick, he said it best, "Warhorse rules ass"

He was IWTV champion last I checked, and he's all over their wrestling channel. His series with Gary J is a standout from the last decade and his match with Darby Allin turned out to be really good.

Never seen him outside of hearing his name a bunch until recently, but the fact he has a King Diamond patch(as well as those of many other metal bands) on his vest means he gets the Psycho666 Stamp of Approval.

Brilliant episode this week. Wasn't feeling the women's match, but it wasn't exactly bad.

I just love Adam Page. And his whole storyline with the Elite, Kenny, FTR etc is really rather intriguing.

Bit late in catching up and responding to this, but Khan promised an industry-shaking announcement and like most announcement promises they did not deliver. It was more saying “BIG Announcements” usually always turn out lame plus in response to Hero! saying NXT dropping the ball when in reality it wasn’t viable for Lee to keep both belts. New viewers not familiar with ECW tuning into this would probably have been wondering wtf? It’s a belt he’ll occasionally prob defend in Dark but just a prop.

Given how things turned out, I probably would’ve booked a no contest between Cage and Moxley, maybe via Derby then have Taz present him with the belt because Mox pulling chicken shit via Derby in kayfabe. In kayfabe giving Cage a prize he should have got.

Yeah, Dark really has evolved from like 30-minutes of stuff they taped that didn't air on TV, to every episode being a 90 minute, "real" episode of wrestling. Its Dynamite production values, with all the same commentators and wrestlers you see on the real show. Just mostly against QT's job squad.

Yep I’m loving it. I honestly thought they’d go with a Page heel turn, unless they tease us with both guys.

Jericho and Sammy make that group. Santana, Ortiz and Hager can’t buy a personality between them.

Santana and Ortiz should bounce from that group and just be their own thing. Jericho doesn't need a stable and they were created during AEW's first few months of "Everyone needs to be in a fucking stable" Jericho with Sammy as his Robin is perfect. I'm not super high on Sammy but I dig the pairing for what it is. In AEW it's a main event pairing, any where else in any era it's a good comedy act that was done better with Kevin Owens.

Nobody but die hard ECW fans pushing 40 have a clue what the FTW belt was about. And if I'm wrong props to those kids' parents for letting them watch and/or educating them early on. My son is 19 and knew about it, but the fact he knew about it made him just as confused as I was as to why it was even introduced.

Santana/Ortiz could definitely still be a team even if it is Los Boricuas II.

    Hager/Swagger is a fence post.

Was just a joking quip. Tbh not that familiar with their past work and have liked their work but I think their better off breaking away, that might be because they’ve nearly always lost.

Jericho and Sammy still being Le Sex Gods in an Inner Circle break up would be great.

Santana, Ortiz, Kingston, Diamante and Ricky Starks - as "The 187 Mafia" would totally work.

I know Starks just started his random association with Taz and Brian Cage, but who cares? They're not joined at the hip.

I literally only knew what the FTW Title was from some random pictures in an old WOW - World of Wrestling - magazine. ECW coverage was, "spotty" at best and "completely non-existent" at worst, where I lived. So I definitely didn't see any of that angle live.

That would be good, especially just Jericho & Sammy. Only this time down the line it’s Sammy turning on Jericho.

Did see it live either, always saw pics in The Wrestler.

I binge watched all of ECW TV for absolutely no good reason a few years ago and i see why they did the FTW title. It parallels Taz being unable to challenege for the ECW title because Douglas was hurt.

I think where aew fucked up was giving the belt to cage the week before he actually faced the champion. He should have gotten it either way before the title match or after losing and being denied another shot.

If you remember, Shane was out for like 4 months because of a bicep or shoulder injury so it made sense back then because we were going 4 months, not a week, without the World champ defending. They were definitely wanting Shane to put over Taz or they would have just stripped Shane.

This just felt like something AEW is doing to draw in that 35-55 demographic which is the age range that dominants the wrestling audience. Who else is going to give a shit about half the stuff going on in AEW? There's so much nostalgia that goes with most of the roster you either have to be a long time fan pushing 40, 50 years old or you 've done your research.

Aww yeah baby, its time to climb all aboard the ho... err.. show train, baby! Yeah! Its another wild, wonderful, whacked-out hump day.. Its Wednesday, cats and kittens! And you know what that means, don't you? I think we all do! Its time, once again for another rockin' and rollin' express train to Wrestle-Town, with a card as subject to change as the summer weather -- Its as unpredictable as a Covid-19 news report -- Its got mood swings and fists swinging, you can't predict it.. you can't reason with it... negotiate with it... And you absolutely will not and cannot stop, another wild and crazy episode of AEW...

-- Whew, that took a while to get there. But on tonight's dog days of summer episode of AEW Dynamite, we'll see...

-- "The Grandson of A Plumber" Cody Rhodes defends his TNT Championship against indie standout and meme wrestler extraordinaire WARHORSE -- What did WARHORSE do to get a shot at such a prestigious championship?

-- In women's division action, Hikaru Shida defends The AEW Women's Championship against the The Devious Diamante

-- In Ten-Man Tag-Team Action -- The Inner Circle -- Chris "Judas In My Mind" Jericho, "Chico" Santana, "Pampero Ferpo Jr." Ortiz, and "Sasha Banks' Least Favorite Person" Sammy Guevara take on the jobber squad of The Best Friends ---- Chuck "What The Fuck?" Taylor, Trent? No Last Name Given and The Jurassic Express -- Jungle Boy Jack Jungle Jack Boy Jack Perry, "Dino Douche" Luchasaurus, and "Wrestling's Biggest Little Mistake" Marko "Stunted Growth" Cunt

-- Kenny "Twinkle Toes McFinger Bang" Omega and "Hangman" Adam "Can You Get A DUI On A Horse" Page defend their AEW Tag-Team Championships against The Dark Order -- Stu "Not Cool Enough To Be Dick" Grayson and Evil Uno

-- In A tag-team grudge match, "The Machine" Brian Cage teams with "Stroke Daddy" Ricky Starks to take on the unlikely pairing of Darby "Sex Sent Me To The E.R." Allin and Jon "The Pox" Moxley

-- Also, the erudite, eloquent and... I can't think of another "e" word, MJF gives a "State Of The Industry Address".

-- And there's your preview. After a few weeks of TV specials and branded events, its nice to settle back into "normal". Or whatever passes for "normal" in this crazy, outlaw mudshow company. Regardless, it looks like a fun one this week. Tally ho!

WARHORSE feels like on of those wrestling jokes I'm just not in on.

He's the "Sharknado" of indie wrestling.

    Matt Hardy out of nowhere!

And, because its Matt Hardy, it literally might have been out of nowhere.

    Remember, he can teleport.

The least realistic thing about that whole segment was Arn Anderson turning down a drink.

Love how Diamante is just going to pretend she didn't have a very solid Impact Wrestling run.

One thing I'm noticing: JR doesn't do a lot to entertain me unless he's shitting over something he doesn't like. We've seen weeks without Excalibur (this week), we've seen Taz, and Schiavone/Jericho and they're all much more appealing. It's clear that Excalibur is the essential backbone that's needed weekly.

With the talent involved and heat that could have been there, the 10-man tag just seemed really discombobulated.

Warhorse looked good in the match and they told a good enough story with Cody starting to get a little frustrated with the stacked weeks of the open challenge. Strong Island Matt Cardona? I'm only interested in the potential upside with him on BTE. This roster is getting bloated in a hurry.

Tag title match wasn't bad but it felt like it didn't hit a higher gear. I think that would taken a good match and turned it into a great one. Stu Grayson is a guy who is really impressive but stuck in a shitty gimmick. Is Anna just Bunny 2.0 now that she's in Dark Order?

Diamante had a rough two weeks on Dynamite, to say the least. The one fka as Cameron is in AEW and participating in this women's tournament? Unless she got dramatically better without being in the ring since leaving WWE, yikes.

MJF delivered in a big, big way with his promo. I'm looking forward to how they continue to evolve the build between MJF and "Dictator Jon". This certainly feels like a situation where the trigger could certainly be pulled and crown a new champ.

Starks had a great promo prior to the main event. Odd observation, I know, but they didn't ring the bell to start the match lol. Very little build for a title match next week between two popular people seems shortsighted.

I zip through wrestling these days because I've lost a lot of interest it sitting for 2-3-4 hours for things... so bear with...

JR on commentary is .. confusing. You're right, he enjoys making snide remarks and I just don't understand what that's bringing to the table? I mean, it makes me smirk sometimes but it's not necessary. If you didn't know who JR was, you'd think he was just an asshole.

The problem with the 10 man tag is they put it up first and gave it like what.. 10 minutes? 12 minutes? The only way everyone can get into the match is via a big mess.. and that's kinda what it felt like at times. I mean they even managed to squeeze Marko Stunt in there. Feel like that meme sometimes with him: "Nobody: AEW: Hey look at Marko Stunt being the size of a child!"

I felt bad for Warhorse... because without a crowd, his intro sounded a bit ... dumb. Before he finished saying Warhorse I felt he was going to say "Warrior" because.. face-paint.. hyperactive... Also I felt like he bails Cody out at the end, even though Cody still gets beat up, and who gets the glory of the handshakes after? Matt Cardona. Who by the way looks incredible.. can tell what he spent his days doing. Unfortunately I just don't see where he fits in currently.. aside from to replay the MJF "Cody's friend who turns on him" part.

Speaking of MJF - I did enjoy that promo but there's a certain irony that really if you wanted to call Mox a copy of Steve Austin, MJF's promo was very CM Punk "pipe-bomb". He was one-waving-at-colt-cabana away from it.

Anyway, I don't know what the result would be now but I feel like this is "the time" if they wanted to prove themselves to go against RAW because RAW is floundering (for me) at the minute. It has done for a few months. If they put like an "AEW special" on every month on a Monday... I'd find it interesting how that would affect the overall ratings. I can't think it's too soon... it's just whether there's anything to be achieved by going head to head like that... which there probably isn't. Might be best for wrestling generally if they had more spaced out main shows.

Matt Cardona looks like he's taken a break from action figure collecting and digging around flea markets and old lady's attics and decided to hit the gym.

I guess when you're not spending $1,200 on an obscure Big Bossman action figure, you can afford a little bit of the gas. Holy shit. That's a "Jinder Mahal"-style full body transformation, just without the flirtation with alcoholism and almost opening a Subway restaurant first.

Cardona is still spending thousands on figures, he just eats a lot of steak and lifts very heavy weights!

also probably shoots tons of roids now, his dad WAS a bodybuilder after all.

    Day after thoughts:

They got too cute with the shot of turnbuckle camera with Grayson leaping out of the ring. That's a cool visual but we never saw the actual payoff to that. FTR using the cooler as a weapon continues to be funny.

If AEW opts to go with Cardona at the expense of someone like Kingston, that could prove to be an unwise move. Warhorse needed more attention or Excalibur in the worst way to provide exposition.

Is the women's tournament just on YouTube? Just the first round? Meh...

MJF's line about no longer being the alternative and being the pinnacle was VERY good.

The thing about 10 man tags is that those kinds of matches should always be elimination. Otherwise it breaks down and becomes a giant cluster like we saw last night. On top of that, why make it tornado when they had a tornado tag as the main event?

    Cameron's back?!!!

I don't know how Uno and Grayson are 8-0. Have all their matches been on Dark? This is the first time I've seen them have a proper tag match and I have to say they impressed me. Some creative double team action.

I'm not sure if all the AEW super marks who were like "I hope so and so comes to AEW they were not used correctly in WWE" are so so happy with the shit they're getting. CAMERON!!!

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHA.

    Fuck you.

I can't wait to hear people defend this turd. I thought TNA were bad, signing all the jobbers that Titus used to beat on Main Event sans Gallows/Anderson. Cameron.....Wow.

I think AEW probably knows Cameron is the drizzling shits and they know the reaction internet fans were going to have.

Nyla and Cameron are a comedy duo for this thing. Nyla doesn't like anybody and she especially doesn't want to team with a lead weight in the form of someone who thought she could pin a wrestler on their stomach. We'll see Nyla do all the heavy lifting, probably win entire matches by herself, and never tag dumbshit in. And they'll make it a couple rounds into the tournament, until another team of two stars wrestles them, Nyla has to tag Cameron in, and Cameron gets beat deader than four 'o clock in like two minutes.

Nyla beats her up, gets her heat, faces chase her off and help Cameron up. End of segment.

Nyla's got a bitch, which is good for a heel, that she should've won the tournament, but she stuck with a sack of shit for a partner and she's sick of being fucked around.

Hell, maybe they could bring back Awesome Kong, team her with Nyla and they could wrestle the winners of the tournament for The Deadly Draw trophy.

    Another good show.

MJF though great promo. I never liked him at first, didn’t see anything in him but he certainly proved me wrong.

Glad they carried on the Sammy/Matt stuff, will be fun stuff and should be a good match with Sammy going over.

Im guessing Matt Cardona will turn on Cody when he loses his TNT stuff and them doing the whole jealous friendship thing. Good to see Matt though somewhere else.

Eddie signed then, I feel like they are on the verge of getting a bloated roster, I know they have dark so wonder if they have a deal in place to bring that to TV.

when the news broke earlier this year about the TNT extension and deal, it was announced that a second show would come about at some point. i imagine the pandemic has messed with that timeline.

If there's any kind of silver lining to AEW being stuck in the same building for so long, its that its been great to see QT Marshall's jobber squad wrestling school students on TV. They make good jobber fodder for the big show and they're all mostly good enough to have some semi-competitive and fun matches against stars on Dark. They're a well trained group of dudes and dudettes. I mean, some of them might be better, at least fundamentally, than some of "real" stars on Dynamite.

And obviously, being stuck in Florida means they get to work every week in front of a TV and/or Youtube audience. Which is only good for them.

Also, wrestling in front of an audience of nothing but other wrestlers means that whatever veterans are out there can really help out and critique what needs work, because they're seeing it up close and personal.

Former NXT performer Taynara Conti is apparently part of the AEW Women's Tag Tag Cup Tournament. She will be paired up with Anna Jay and they will face Nyla Rose and Ariane Andrew. That's all according to Jericho.

    Neat.

Taynara seems super cool. At least from her Instagram. And Anna Jay as a member of The Dark Order actually has some personality now.

Its good they gave those goobers a woman member. Now they don't feel like a bunch of angry incels. They can actually get a woman to talk to them.

Taynara in the Tag Tournament is a blessing. I would love to see AEW snatch her up. So many years ahead of her, and she's already more than solid.

When Dr Baker heals, her being a double tag and singles champ would rule.

It’s not for a lack of female talent in AEW but at the moment character-wise she’s the only one I’m invested in. Probably because she still gets more time than every other female but she is great.

Outside of the all women's promotions in Japan, WWE without a shadow of a fucking doubt has the absolute best women's roster of all time.

I don't know what's worse...People defending Excalibur or people defending this horseshit.

I'd really like to hear an explanation why Brandi insists on acting like a heel. That interview after the match made her so unlikable. And don't get me started on her ring work. She's good at two things: Announcing wrestlers and being a ringside cheerleader.

Unlikable as in she sucks ass? If she's a heel, liking her is the last thing you want to be doing.

With the NBA back and in full swing, Turner announced how Dynamite will be impacted.
The Wednesday, August 19 episode will air on Saturday, August 22 at 6:00pm ET / 3:00pm PT
The Wednesday, August 26 episode will air Thursday, August 27 at 8:00pm ET/PT
The Wednesday, September 16 episode will air Thursday, September 17 at 8:00pm ET/PT

That means the first one will go up against Takeover XXX for one hour. Should be interesting to see how both NXT and AEW are impacted with the subtle changes.

Looking forward to see how Moxley/Allin go and how they go about the match. No doubt Allin will shine and just come up short, Cage/Starks getting involved.

So, 10-man tag-team opener last week.

    12-man tag-team this watch week.

Looking forward to next week when we get a 14-man tag-team match.

Just keep adding guys every week. We can have a 40-man tag-team match some time. They'll have guys in the match that never leave the lockers because they don't fit anywhere in the arena.

It says something, though I'm not exactly sure what, that a 12-team tag was more entertaining than the 10-man last week. One week's chaos looked sloppy and the other was more clean. Lee and Page squaring off is something I'd certainly like to see more of.

A feud of convenience and over a van. At least those two teams are good at what they do and should be good together for undercard program.

Seemed like a rather underwhelming debut for Cardona.

Jericho's side of the debate came off as corny to me. Cassidy's side, verbal and non verbal, was more entertaining.

One segment, especially what it was, for the women for a two-hour show seems...unfortunate. Unless I missed it, they didn't even advertise/promote their women's tournament. Instead, they opted to market this subscription-based women's only web community.

The Moxley promo earlier in the evening was a good appetizer for the main event. Good on them to outline (though it was brief) that Starks and Cage were barred from the arena. Of course it was smart to bar those two from the ring because the bigger deal with MJF and Wardlow being involved in the match. The first matchup between Allin and Moxley had the benefit of the crowd to feed off of but I'd say I liked the rematch better. The storytelling was definitely on point. They told a really good story over the course of the night between these two guys. Mission accomplished, but it's disappointing that this was a story that only really lasted one episode. Face versus face might have been hard for a multi-week program but they're two compelling characters that are endearing and would have drawn serious interest.

but that mox promo essentially turned it into a months long storyline. and that closing shot of mox sitting an unconscious darby up, arm around him, bleeding on him, as he's talking to him, definitely plants the seeds for it to be continued in the future. this is how good long term storytelling works.
