I'm glad The Fiend didn't ruin that.

I quite liked AJ eating a stunner right before his match. Cedric has an injured arm and AJ is a main eventer, so the stunner evened things up quite a bit. I also like the organic way they've booked The Viking Raiders first feud, coming straight out of the OC costing them a tag title shot...

I haven't watched a whole Raw in a few months. Not starting tonight either but that's the exact impression I've been drawing lately.

Still waiting to formulate my opinion on Raw since Heyman got the job but suffice it to say, it's better now.

Something working extremely well in Raw's favor tonight is variance between matches. The WWE-style of matches can be very paint by the numbers and make the matches flow together (not in the good way). You've gotten very different types of matches across the board to this point. They've been given an adequate amount of time, too.

It's really odd booking to have Corbin win there.

It's almost as if they don't realize he sucks fucking ass.

I think Prince Puma vs Penta vs Muertes from Lucha Underground is the only triple threat match that might be better than that one was. It was quite a brawl for a spotty 3 way. Beautiful heel kick by Ricochet. Absolutely beautiful.

That's a tough argument to make when looking at what he's done since he went on ice after the Universal title picture. The matches he's been in for the tournament have all been good. I'm sure the chants tonight perked up the ears of the people in the back.

I'm sure what they've been aiming at for Corbin. Just have him hang around long enough and people will start to like to hate him. I still can't seem to care for him. And I hope they don't put the crown on him, that would kill the crowd and the credibility of the KOTR coming back after a long while and having so many great matches leading up to the finals.

Either that, or they'll have Shane come in at the last minute and take it like the world cup thing.

In other matches, that women's tag should have been the main event. That was great and had the crowd.

Okay, I'm going gripe just a little bit. Alexander gets the win over AJ and Austin's music hits immediately in order to pop the crowd. Okay, I guess? I mean I get it. But I see why that was at the end of the show. Maybe Alexander needs more dynamic music...

It was about teamwork tonight. I'm glad the main event didn't end w/ Braun and Seth fighting. I mean, the crowd almost killed it, but they managed to get their focus by the end of the match.

They should have at least played Cedric's music for like 15 seconds before having Austin's music hit. But I guess they were pressed for time with no overrun? Even Austin hustled his ass to the ring asap.

AJ vs Austin is a shut up and take my money feud. Sasha and Bayley should have won there. Sasha being Becky's Kryptonite for awhile would make a good story.

Give us several weeks of Corbin, and then put RAW up against a great MNF matchup, and there's no wonder the ratings tanked despite Austin coming back to the Garden

I think it’s a bit unfair to sling blame on Corbin as he’s actually been more tolerable lately now that he’s not constantly in the GM/title picture. The Seth title feud for example was stretched out way too long but it’s been better now. He’s one of the few current heels that people genuinely gets heat rather than being a cool heel that shows off and people like anyway.

Sounds like the football was more of a factor. Also it probably would’ve been better to save Austin til the end building his appearance up rather than have him open up the show(and his last appearance was hurried). It wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of curious old school fans saw him at the start then tuned out. Raw typically struggles with the last hour in the ratings being a long show, I think that’s where they need help.

I don't think it's any one talent's fault. It was one of the better RAWs in a while. I just think interest in wrestling is dwindling, and has been dwindling, for years. Hopefully with the move to FOX, AEW debuting, and NXT on USA, maybe it will spark some sort of interest, but I suspect it will only be for the short term.

Yeah, pretty much agree with Donald there. If AEW weekly is decent, I'll stick to it. And the NXT move has me intrigued enough to check that out too.

Outside of that, WWE PPVs is enough for me. Can't see me ever going back to watching Raw or Smackdown regularly again. And even with AEW and NXT, I'll probably end up choosing one or the other. We'll see though.

I was only half-joking about blaming Corbin.

I do think Corbin is getting heat not for his ring work or character, but because of his continued undeserved push. Kind of like the heat Roman Reigns was getting before he got sick.

I will grant you that his match with Cedric Alexander was also pretty good, but I cannot give him all the credit for the 3-way with Ricochet/Joe being a very very good match. I will say he's gone from terrible in the ring to almost tolerable with the right opponents. But when there are so many more talented guys that are not being used well, or at all, I just don't see the point in his continued series of pushes. Look at the RAW side of the KOTR bracket - every one else on that side - heel or face - is far better in the ring than Corbin. They are all more deserving of a push, and all of their characters would benefit more from a KOTR reign.

I heard the rumblings that the plan was for an Elias win over Ricochet, but with Elias getting hurt they went to Corbin. I would prefer it now if they have Shane take Corbin's place in the finals, because King Shane is at least entertaining on the mic and in the ring.

Corbin's in-ring skill was never an issue for me. He's a guy who isn't going to carry someone to a good match but if he's in there with someone good, it'll be solid. His look, his voice, promo skills, everything else just does zero.

I'd agree with that. He's one of those Bob Holly/Billy Gunn types who you can understand why Vince would push a guy like that but most of the fans have no clue what he's smoking lol.

If we get a feud of Corbin/Lesnar, I will be happy.

Saw the start of Raw. Nice to see them not announce Austin before the glass hit. Kills the pop. No idea why they usually do that.

Austin is still the man, isn't he.

The pop was fucking enormous when the glass shattered. We'll probably see CM Punk back in the WWE before Austin decides to work another match but if he did, I would gladly drive/fly/swim to whatever part of the planet that match would be held to see it live.

If he fought someone in a desert, that would be too hot for me. I'd draw a line in the sand there.

Steve Austin wrestling again would be just as bad as Shawn Michaels wrestling again, though one could argue it was the other zombies' fault in that match that it sucked.

It was the other zombies. Shawn doing a moonsault to the outside and neither Kane or Undertaker stepping up to catch him isn't exactly on HBK. Or the fact that Triple H injured himself 12 seconds into the match. So it was basically the GOAT carrying 2 cripples twice his size. We don't know about Stone Cold. The expectations for what he brings to a match are not on the same level as what we expect out of HBK, even at this stage in his life.

Austin's style is perfect for really anyone to work with. Kick, punch, throw into a barricade, Thesz press, stunner. Stomping a mudhole only requires minimal effort.

Yeah, someone like me would get winded stomping antyhing, but Austin is still in shape.

Might be a minimal style, but there's all sorts of legal and health and safety red tape involved. Better to be safe and sorry tand keep Austin out of physical action. He knows it, they know it.

I'd rather the occasional appearance and stunner if it means keeping him healthy.

Is there? I guess I've never heard anything outside of Austin saying he wants to stay retired. I get that his health is shot, but to what extent IDK

I haven't heard anything more concrete either, only guesstimating that there would be problems to overcome letting him back in the ring for a proper match.

If it was something really short like the Fiend putting the claw on Austin or a stunner the otner way round like Rock/Wyatt at Maniathen that would probably be okay but it would have to be an impromptu thing with limited physical contact.

Suppose never say never like with Shawn's back injury and Bryan's return I guess. However would Austin himself want to take the chance? He's sitting pretty with his various appearances and shows.

After that 10 Man Tag, Nash has no excuse for not keeping up with the Viking Raiders.
