    Movies 4 Murphy

It was brought to our attention that fun loving Murphy (Smurphy to his friends) has not seen a laundry list of movies that he will now be required to see. And to keep this thread interesting, this isn't really just for Smurphy but for anyone who feels like a movie is a MUST SEE.

While I would like to throw some guidelines to avoid people throwing out every random movie they can think of that maybe 2 people like (Such as HIGHWAY TO HELL), I'm not too concerned.

So let's create a video store for this nice feller and see if he (and others) take our advice.

Now, @Murphy, feel free to chime in on the movies suggested that you have seen and to those not named Murphy, feel free to chime in if you HAVEN'T seen the movies suggested.

What really started this thread is the fact that homeboy has yet to see Terminator 2. So right off the bat:

    Ha, thanks man.

I’m going to seek this one out.

Others on my list are Godfather Part II, Avatar, Schindler’s List, The Goonies, The Shining, the Alien films and the Batman trilogy.

I should read The Shining, yes.

Right, watching a film tonight, but I don’t have access to T2.

From looking at Netflix, I’m leaning towards Good Will Hunting.

Could watch Avatar or 12 Years A Slave, but doubt Mrs M would be keen.

    Good Will Hunting is terrific.

    The best of Robin Williams.

I mean it differs from the book a lot, but it's not bad by any means on its own.

It really is. I adored the hell out that. Heartbreaking, sweet and warm. Gave me all the feels. Williams and Damon were just wonderful. That speech on the bench, Will finally letting it all out in the therapy session and the scene where he essentially breaks up with the girlfriend. All so, so good.

Good adds so far. I agree with consensus on Good Will Hunting though since WIlliams death (sorry if that's spoilers Murph....) I can't really watch his movies as much. That said, I would recommend Good Morning Vietnam.

I assume nothing, so here's a few movies:

    Back to the Future
    Ghost
    Rain Man
Point Break (Patrick Swayze, not the abortion of a remake)
    The Fugitive (Harrison Ford)
    Primal Fear

Seen any of those? Also, what kind of movies do you like best? (action, drama, bullshit, animated)

Everyone should watch this and I’m glad you suggested a TV showing rather than buying it, because seriously who in their right mind wants to be going through their DVD collection for a film to watch and settle on that, “ooh Schindler’s List, let’s watch that again, I really fancy a bit of Holocaust.”

Seen and loved Rain Man and The Fugitive. The latter should have been in my top 10 list for the other thread. Big fan of Ghost too. Will add the others to my list. Back to the Future was on my list.

I think I’d put drama top, I think. But I do love action and a good old trashy romcom. And Secret Life of Pets is bloody awesome, so animated too. Seeing Toy Story 4 today.

Will come back to that tag.

I don’t need to see the original Terminator, do I? I mean, I saw it about 20 years ago and remember nothing, but not necessary, right?

Honestly you don't HAVE to. They a great job with some flashbacks and bringing people up to speed as to why certain shit is going down. Then you could go back and watch the first one and go "Oh shit I get that part from T2 now".

I watched T2 before T. I still loved it, but I wish I had watched T before T2. The first 20 minutes or so would have made it even more fucking epic had I done so. That slow-mo in the corridor.

Facebook memory popped up this morning revealing I'd never seen a Clint Eastwood film, acted or directed. Since said memory, I've seen Gran Torino and Mystic River. Both rather splendid.

So yeah, a load more for my list.

    BUMP

So, change of plans tomorrow night for me. Was supposed to be seeing friends, but they're all seeing the new Bad Boys film and, shock and horror and all that shit, I haven't see the first two. Yes, I know there's been about 20 years since Bad Boys II, but I'd rather not see the 3rd before the first two.

    So, I'll be staying in and watching a film with Mrs M. What should we watch? Looking at;

    Bad Boys
Spectre (only Daniel Craig Bond I haven't seen)
Terminator (in anticipation of seeing T2, which started this whole discussion)
The Irishman (likely in 2 parts)
    Something else, preferably on Netflix.

I haven't seen Bad Boys or Bad Boys II. I might be ok seeing a Will Smith movie. I might be ok seeing a Martin Lawrence movie (less so than Will Smith), but put them together....just sounds like a bad time

I just got my copy of Hot Fuzz in yesterday's mail actually. Owned it before, thought I still had it. Great movie. And I named one of my cats after Reggie from Bad Boys 2. That aside, it's one of the movies that will always get me laughing when in a shit mood.

As much as Hot Fuzz was fun, Shaun of the Dead is the fucking daddy.

Looking at films tonight and, man, Freddy Got Fingered is great. I don’t even care, I loved that monstrosity.

    Right, Bad Boys tonight.

Bit of Norman Wisdom tomorrow. See what my lad makes of The Early Bird.

    Saw Bad Boys.

On the whole, enjoyed it. Took a little while to get going, but it really picked up. Great chemistry between Smith and Lawrence.

You can really tell it was made in the 90s though and the 2 main females in the film are annoying as fuck. Leoni's character a really naïve, bordering on childish like character. And the wife of Lawrence, just an absolute bellpiece.

Bad Boys II isn't on Netflix, so may need to pick it up on e-Bay for a few pennies.

3 out of 5 for the original though.

Film this Saturday, I may pick...hmm, not sure yet.

Here's my top 10 favorite films Murphy, maybe give some of these a shot:

    10. Freddy Got Fingered
    9. The Exorcist
    8. Scary Movie 3
    7. Friday the 13th Party VI: Jason Lives
    6. Twister
    5. Halloween II (1981)
    4. A Clockwork Orange
    3. Child's Play 2
    2. Superman II
    1. Halloween (1978)

Good to see this thread still going.

New suggestions I may not have mentioned before:

    Collateral - w/Tom Cruise & Jamie Foxx

The Game - Mike Douglas, Sean Penn (one of my personal favorites)

Michael Clayton - same as above. Not much of an action movie but a good story that moves along, and Tom Wilkinson is also one of my favorites

If you like the presentation of 80s movies and how outdated the technology is compared to now, I'd also suggest Cloak and Dagger, and WarGames. Saw those 2 fairly recently and was as entertained as I remember being years ago.

I loved Freddy Got Fingered because it's absolutely bonkers. Seen the Exorcist too, but when I was like 15. It was banned in the UK at the time and we had to get it on NTSC import. I think we overhyped it because we all found it a bit disappointing.

Not seen the rest on your list, so will add them. Likely saw Superman II when I was younger, but don't recall. Been wanting to watch those all for a while now.

Seen none of these. No surprises there. Will add these too.

For some reason, I decided against any suggestion in this thread this past Saturday and watched Fighting With My Family. I'd planned to watch Spectre, but it had disappeared from my recordings.

I really enjoyed it. I thought the casting was excellent and I found it sweet, funny and very interesting. Moving to Florida alone at the age of about 18. Yikes. Fair play to her. Found it funny that they changed Ricky Knight from an Arsenal fan to a Norwich one though. Had a little chuckle at that.

Friend of mine, Lewis, said this film was a load of bollocks, but I knew I'd like it.

    4 out of 5.

Michael Clayton really is low key terrific. Absolute top notch performances from Tilda Swinton, George Clooney, and Wilkinson. And an engrossing script by Tony Gilroy.

    Big time recommend..
