    Guilty Pleasure Movies (Sports Edition)

I don't care how "sporty" your favorite guilty pleasure sports movie is. Sports could be the backdrop or the main focus. I'm going to kick this off with a movie I actually saw TWICE as a kid in the movie theater with my best friend Brian.

Stellar cast. Hans Zimmer, master of movie scores. Madonna looked incredible. I love the part where the black chick throws a heater to one of the Peaches. It hit on so many social issues and the war and everything in between. Like I said, we went to it TWICE it was that good.

But it's not exactly a movie that you hear a bunch of guys talk about as one of their favorite sports movies. I'll be honest, this might be one of my favorite movies to put on and just sit back and enjoy.

Not sure how that's a guilty pleasure. It was a good sports flick.

I love League of Their Own. I’ll watch most baseball movies in fairness, or golf movies, Tin Cup is a real guilty pleasure. Actually nah, it’s just a fine film.

Draft Day is shockingly good. Didn't expect much but it was really, really good.

Costner really does do sappy sports well. Don't forget this one:

Draft Day was a lot of fun, but it was so preposterous. Kinda like Any Given Sunday, another guilty pleasure sports flick for me.

Never even heard of that McFarland one, might have to check it out now though.

    ‘MR DOUGAN!’

Love this film. Cracking cast. Not seen it for years though. Must watch again.

I feel guilty about none of my pleasures.

A League of Their Own is a sports movie classic, no one should feel guilty about it.

I guess if I had to pick a "bad" sports movie that I enjoy it would be

I mean I don't think it's bad, but it has 9% on RT so I guess it could qualify as guilty

Yeah this should be more reserved for alt-sports. Like Bring It On. Step up 2: the Streets. Drumline.

"Cool Runnings" is a guilty pleasure of mine. Mostly because it was so fun to watch on the VCR while babysitting my sister's kids - they weren't allowed to watch much but it was among the 8 or 9 movies they owned.

My other guilty pleasure sports movie comes from 1976. Anyone remember "Gus". So incredibly stupidly fun.

Has nothing to do with the quality. As I said, and this could just be my circle and experience when talking about this movie, it's not something that a lot of guys put out there as one of their favorite sports movies.

I'll throw another out there that wasn't a big release and didn't smash it at the box office but it's a good sports flick:

I remember really enjoying Little Giants.

The Mighty Ducks movies don't really fit as a guilty pleasure.

Oh Bend it Like Beckham fits as a true guilty pleasure, not that I've seen it in a while.

    Little Giants is great.

I would say Mighty Ducks fall into that category. They didn't exactly get nominated for any awards that matter. I thought 2 was the best of the 3.

And we have to remember, a guilty pleasure is all in the eye of the beholder. Like Percussion saying The Program=guilty pleasure. I knew way more people who saw that movie than League of their Own and hold The Program to a very high standard especially fans of college football.

Mean Machine starring Vinnie Jones. Massive high profile cast including Jason Statham, Danny Dyer, David Hemmings, Ralph Brown and Sally Phillips. Haven't watched in a long time but remember loving it as a nipper. Undoubtedly absolute shit in reality.

The concept of guilty pleasure can do one. I like it or I don't.

Draft Day was awful. A shitty preposterous narrative can be masked in a lot of ways, of which that movie did none.

I'm going to class The Last Boy Scout as a sports movie and there's nothing you can do to stop me.

The Replacements is also a top shelf movie. I think the stop-start nature of American football lends itself to easily being the source of a great story.

I bloody love Any Given Sunday. Not sure if it's a "guilty pleasure" though - because I geniunely think it's an OK film.

I know a lot of people say it's overlong and boring.

I loved Any Given Sunday. But I did see it about 15 years ago when I liked anything with Al Pacino in.

Would watch again to see if it holds up, but it's so long.

I gotta agree with @MMH - Slap Shot was a terrific guy's flick.

Hoosiers is also a huge pleasure I just re-watched a couple weeks ago (visiting a friend in a nursing home), and it has held up pretty well.

The Bad News Bears could not be made in today's PC world, but it was a lot of fun in its time. I guess the fact that we all enjoyed it so much and feel guilty now about how many stereotypically bad clichés are crammed in there, makes it a definitive guilty pleasure.

More recently, I could probably argue that High School Musical had just enough sports in it to consider it a guilty pleasure sports flick.

Yep, I hadn't thought to actually look at how it was reviewed until years after I'd initially watched it. I loved it, and always assumed it was a highly regarded film - and was surprised that it was largely panned by critics.

Most of the criticism seems to be that it is too long, and somewhat flat. But I think it's perfect for the type of film it is - just a peek inside the life of people involved in an NFL franchise over the course of a season. Love the cast and the soundtrack too.

It just felt like every imaginable cliche about the nfl turned up to 100 and shoehorned into one story for close to 3 hours. Zero nuance or anything resembling an organic narrative.

A wicked fun event of a movie, but not much in the way of a very good film.

I remember really liking Brink back in the day, but I am not sure if any sports movie would necessarily be a guilty pleasure of mine.

    Maybe the remade Longest Yard?

    This feels incredibly accurate...

    But I still love it.

Yeah, it's probably true. It's been a long time since I watched it, but at the time it felt like I was watching an awards recognition film. Lots of BIG performances.

Remember the Titans. Gonna tear up right now thinking about Berty getting himself paralysed before the big game

Remember the Titans is too good a movie to be a guilty pleasure. Bertier will always be Opie in my mind.

Stick It. Now that’s a guilty pleasure.

Remember the Titans is a classic. What about that scene where Sunshine kissed Bertier on the lips though, that was weird.

Curious how y'all rate this one on the guilty pleasure to legit good sports flick scale..

I personally loved it and thought it was an actual solid film. Could also imagine it getting a pretty good amount of eyerolls from some. Lots of cliches and mma still in it's sort of fringe infancy.

I've summed it up before as basically two rocky movies rolled into one and they have to fight each other in the end. And when you get a kickass performance from Nick Nolte of all people you gotta be onto somethin.

Warrior is a genuinely good film and not a guilty pleasure for me. Brendan vs Koba is class.

I would nominate Here Comes the Boom for an MMA film.

Haven't seen another mma-centric film that I thought was more than bleh at best. Probably why I was considering people to kinda stigma Warrior right off the bat.

Agreed about Brendan/Koba, edge of your seat stuff. But damn if all the fight scenes weren't choreographed really well, even the squashes.

Lots of good ones mentioned but Little Big League is one I didn't see skimming down the list.
