    Do They Deserve A Sequel?

Movies that never had a "part 2" that deserve one. I'll start.

Step Brothers. Part of me is on the side of "A sequel will ruin the original" argument, but a bigger part of me wants to see more adventures of Dale and Brennan.

step brothers is a pretty much perfect comedy. making a sequel would suck, just like anchorman.

Yeah there's absolutely no need for a sequel. Not that the sequel would make Step Brothers any less funny but it's just not necessary and couldn't be nearly as good.

comedies in general aren't good for sequels. I'm trying to think of good comedic sequels. christmas vacation comes to mind. not much else.

sequels are good for action/adventure movies, animated movies, and the godfather 2. that's about it.

Step Brothers felt like an origin story movie.

People are right. Very few comedies even get a sequel, and if they do, most of the time it's "straight to video". And with an entire re-casting of the original sans the 1 guy who wasn't even that important.

But I think Step Brothers 2 would be like comedy's "Empire Strikes Back" to the point where it could very well be BETTER than the first. Or at the very least on par.

I think the ship has sailed on that one. It might have been a good movie, but it's been too long. I think that's the reason Anchorman 2 wasn't as good, or Dumb and Dumber To. They just waited too long.

Very good point. By this time I'm surprised someone didn't greenlight a remake of it.

I feel the horror genre has the best sequels, because people go to see the villains mostly. So they always find a way to bring them back. I don't know why they keep rebooting horror movies when a sequel would do just fine. I'd like to see another Friday the 13th film, but I know they are entangled in a lawsuit at the moment. I'd also like to see one last sequel in the Elm Street franchise, with Robert Englund and Heather Langenkamp in one final showdown. Englund's gotta be in his early 70s at this point, I don't think it's too old to ask for one final performance, especially if you get stunt actors to do most of the work.

Saving Private Ryan. Call it Saving Sergeant Ryan, where he only bloody needs saving again but this time in Korea.

Dazed and Confused. Call it Dazed and Confuseder, set it the next day and have everyone really hung over and make it with the same actors.

King Kong. He wasn’t dead, just napping and now he wants revenge.

    Flash Gordon. No explanation needed.

Fight Club, further adventures in being absolutely mental.

I'm cool with a sequel to Elm Street (not the reboot) but we can't bring Nancy back. She was killed in the "cinematic" movies and New Nightmare is just too good and original of a concept to mess with that.

He needs one last battle against Alice (Lisa Wilcox) Maybe have her son Jacob, who would be what, 30 now? could do Freddy in once and for all.

Dredd deserved a sequel. Or a TV series. Or anything really. It doesn’t even have to be a Judge Death movie as was rumoured years ago. Just open up the world of Mega City One and have Karl Urban wreck people.

They should only make a sequel if that's the mindset before or during the first movie's production. So many sequels today are made due to how the first movie performed, and then the sequel just doesn't live up the first film, because no one asked for a sequel. I haven't seen these, but Now You See Me 2, London Has Fallen, and Independence Day: Resurgence are just a few that I think people didn't ask for and got.

A pilot script for a series was supposedly written last year, but there’s been no update since. As of April this year, Karl Urban still has no idea what is happening on that front.

I honestly think a sequel could work for Step Bros.

Show Brennan married with a kid, and Dale is living with them in the basement still holding on to the past. Eventually Dale convinces Brennan to do some dumb shit that puts the family at risk. The end comes with Dale realizing it's time to truly move on but he does so in a "Dale" sort of way. Something outlandish like he becomes the touring drummer for Third Eye Blind.

Are Ferrell and Reilly a hot commodity anymore though? Their most recent film Holmes & Watson was disaterous. It could be a good comeback vehicle I suppose.

Now You See Me 2 wasn't terrible but it was completely unnecessary. It did have Lizzie Caplan at least, so that's good.

I think it depends on the material. Holmes & Watson did not do well in the movie theaters (thanks Marvel) but it wasn't a terrible movie. I don't think anyone was A-wanting ANOTHER Sherlock Holmes movie/show and B-wanting to see these 2 in this movie in general. Again, it's not a bad movie, just doesn't really compare to the other 2 bangers they were in.

I haven't seen Holmes & Watson but I read news articles of people getting up and walking out of the theater during the movie so I just assumed it was no good. If you say it's not terrible, I may have to check it out.

My ex-gf said she walked out of Captain Marvel. I'm not saying that as anything beyond sometimes people just don't care for a movie. If I'm being honest, I don't give a shit how bad a movie is, I dropped $10 or whatever I'm seeing that shit through lol.

Director Peter Hyams got to direct two leading men who were later tried for the murder of their wives.

Since Peter Boyle died too young, they never got the chance to do the sequel to Young Frankenstein, which should have been called "Old Frankenstein"

The ship comes back and now the kid is our age and he joins the adventure but the whole time he's like "I'm too old for this shit."

Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.

Mel Brooks almost made it. Then decided he was too old so then we got that cartoon.

The decline in local access vs YouTube would be good as well.

I've always wasted a sequel to Labyrinth, but that ain't gonna happen. There was supposed to be a prequel about how Jareth became the Goblin King. I'd have also loved a Phantasm movie that was only about Jebediah Morningside.

Yeah a Labyrinth sequel would have been great. My favorite movie until about age 10. Still love Jennifer Connolly.

Also Tia Carrere is still fit as fuck despite being in early 50s plus she's up for another sequel.

So Will Smith is like "nah I don't need to do Independence Day 2" then he's like "hard pass on another MIB" film.

But then someone brings him a script for Bad Boys 3 and he's like "Oh Yeah! Hollywood Come Back!!!!"

I think that's mainly because nobody on the planet was asking for another Independence Day or MIB, especially when we already had 3 of those movies and they all sucked but the first one. And he was smart about ID 2, did anyone actually go see that? I don't even remember it.

Bad Boys on the other hand, we've been waiting on 3. I didn't even know there's also going to be a 4, that's dope!

Not a sequel but he's also about to play Nicky Barnes. That should be pretty good.

We've been waiting on 3? That's news to me man. The second one fucking sucked and the first was probably only good by accident.

I just think someone in the Smith camp is fucking up.

Bad Boys 2 was arguably better than 1, and I'm in the camp that prefers 2 over 1. And 3 has been something we've been waiting on for like 10 years when I THINK Martin made a comment about how they (Him and Will) were wanting to get #3 out but they were running into some speed bumps.

I mean, did you see the newest MIB and ID 2? They fucking SUUUUUUUUCKED. And Will Smith was smart avoiding them. I think people were done with MIB after the first one, the 2nd and 3rd were fucking whack. And again, who was sitting around wanting a 2nd Independence Day?

I thought MIB 3 was pretty good. I've never really looked to see what people thought of BB2. I just assumed everyone hated it the way I did.

I thought MIB 3 was the epitome of a cash grab. If they combined 2 and 3 into one movie then MIB 2 would have been cool I bet but I didn't understand the reason behind a 3rd movie at that point in time.

Oh man if you were in that Top 10 Action films thread we had a nice discussion about Bad Boys 2 being the shit. One of those rare sequels that live up to the hype and can stand on it's own.

    Is it out already?

I'm not a "I base my opinion on previews" type movie fan. I actually like to go and watch the movie. It's like deciding if an entire album sucks based on the radio single. If I had that mentality I never would have picked up Jay Z's Blueprint or any Eminem album.

Just from the trailer. It doesn't mean I'll never watch it, but I'm less likely to watch it in a theater.

It'll be one of those movies where the action will look cool on the big screen, but my wallet will be like "Wait for it to come out on DVD" Lol.

I would've lost my mind on all of you. The first one was classic, pretty just based on its cast. I fucking hated the 2nd.

Of course I'm the same guy that thinks The Last Boy Scout is Bruce Willis's best action movie.

While we're talking sequels, it annoys me to no end that the sequel to Suicide Squad is called The Suicide Squad. Fuck that.

Isn't it also sort of a soft reboot, though? So it probably wouldn't have 2 on the title.

There was a remake in the works but I think that might've fizzled out. I'd be down for it if they did it, though.

Nah it's a sequel. It's the same cast except Will Smith dropped out and is being replaced by a new character played by Idris Elba.

The third one would logically be called A Suicide Squad.

Ah, the new Idris Elba has to be in everything rule.

He's like Tommy Lee Jones in the 90s.

Gunn looked to the 1980s Suicide Squad comics for inspiration and chose to focus on new characters rather than continue the 2016 film's narrative, effectively making the film a soft reboot.

Safran stated the film was retitled "because it's a total reboot ... It's everything you would hope from a James Gunn script and I think that says a lot and that promises a lot and I know that we will deliver a lot."
It's kind of both, i guess...

Sounds like the Evil Dead movies where it has almost the exact same start but everything after the first 20 minutes is completely different lol.

And in reality, Suicide Squad was never about just those characters in the first movie. Hell, if anyone has seen the Arkham Asylum animated movie they have several characters that aren't in either of the live action movies. I mean, this time around we're still getting Capt Boomerang, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, a few other characters returning played by the same people. So I get the whole "soft reboot" I just hope they don't act like nothing happened in the first film because fuck anyone who didn't like the first one, it was awesome.
