I'll be happy when should someone at USA gets a clue and cut Raw to two hours or just cuts bait on Raw being live for a month. I'll find a way to see this. Might do our big Summer PPV for this instead of Summer Slam

Not a bad follow up. Will be cool to see Moxley wrestle and if he switches things up. I haven't seen much of Janela, but I know he's a daredevil so expect some spots in this one. The six-man tag is an interesting one, although it's disappointing that PAC appears to have pulled out of AEW which kind of sucks, hopefully whoever his replacement is will be an entertaining surprising choice, and hopefully it's someone unseen until now. I wouldn't be against seeing Luchasaurus stepping in.

Ad revenue brother. WWE are getting paid a boatload of money for that 3rd hour.

If someone could show me that the ratings decline over the last 17 years has been due to a 3rd hour implemented in the last 2-3 years I will gladly support those findings. It is a long time to watch wrestling but WCW used to be able to do it with ease. The quality of the show is the real issue, not the length. They were getting shit ratings at just being 2 hours so chopping that 3rd hour only benefits the live audience lol.

Just a typical wrestling fan feeling the need to bash WWE when there's really no need. What does AEW Fyter Fest have to do with USA, Raw, or SummerSlam?

lol yeah it was very very random. I thought it was a response to what I said because I said "I'm happy yada yada" and he said "I'll be happy when yada yada"

Maybe dude thought I was taking a jab at the card looking like Ring of Honor, assumed I'm some sheep WWE fan so he made that little comment. Consider the source, dude is fucking weird.

I think more people need to be honest with themselves about their love for the WWE. The truth is, everyone who bitches about the WWE still watches it. Whether that's on youtube, tv, hulu, doesn't matter they're still watching.

For me it has been a struggle to stay 100% interested in the WWE product. AEW, ROH, New Japan, etc offer an alternative when the main gets stale. Sometimes I like to have Dr. Pepper instead of Code Red and sometimes I just want good ol' H2O lol.

I think people keep watching hoping the WWE will get better. Maybe it's the hope within them that keeps them watching and bitching. I just hope that when AEW gets rolling with a weekly TV show, the people who bitch and complain about the WWE and 3 hour RAWs and Saudi Arabia "blood money" will fuck off and just watch AEW.

    Nash Diesel,

I quit watching 3 weeks ago.

New Japan has too much content. WWE can eat my dirty dick, and it is dirty.

Yeah, the sound production definitely seems improved.

Also, this Private Party is pretty sweet.

Hell of a pre-show opener. Private Party looked really good in their debut. I think this is going to be one hell of a tag division.

Yeah, I'm not quite on board with it yet. That segment was just kinda odd and fell a bit flat. I'll hold out to see how their matches develop.

I am digging the way they're handling the parody aspect of the show gimmick, though. Shit's cracking me up.

they really let shit drag on for way too long. best friends standing around awkwardly staring at people standing outside the ring, the blackout being long as hell, this shhhh'ing stuff. move it the fuck along.

Yeah, I don't hate the gimmick on its own. I actually kind of like it, especially with the execution during the match. It's outside the ring that makes me cringe.

Awkward arena segments aside, that was an enjoyable pre-show. Opener was hot, women's match made up for the bad Librarian segment, and the hardcore match was better than it had any right to be. Now let's see how the proper show does.

The 3 way tag match was great, womens match was meh, and no clue who the CEO is and the slippery gimmick is kinda silly... I'm going to watch the main card after ufc ends...

Tag match was good. Backstage segments were trash. Librarian gimmick and that women's match were lame. Hardcore match was stupid. Overall not a good pre-show. Way too much comedy.

Dude is such a damn good heel.

I dug the women's 3-way. Good showing for Nyla, though I kinda question having her eat the fall. I'm also a bit enamored with Yuka Sakazaki.

I hope this thing replays. I was only able to start watching about midway into the Moxley match.

Looks like they are keeping it up for replay. But it may still be a thing where you have to catch it from the start. I don't know shit about the b/r app.

    pre show:

three way tag was fun. Private Party are athletic as fuck, but definitely need more seasoning. decent match

the blackout post-match went on way too long, audio was kinda fucked.

didn't play well when into the slog that was the librarian into. that wasn't good at all. didn't help that match was the epitome of 'meh'.

Nakazawa i can see getting old quick. kinda weird that they put a non-wrestler in this match. kinda made them look like a joke

Cima/Daniels was what i expected. nothing amazing, nothing god awful. you knew Cima was going to win, because they kept playing up his match against Omega

    main show:

women's 3-way: Riho and Yuka have really shit strikes. actually, most of their offense against Nyla looked shit. Nyla was pretty impressive. catching both of those girls, the jump to the top and the guillotine were pretty awesome. average match

4 way match was very fun. MJF is the shit. Jimmy Havoc has a weird body, and didn't seem the be involved much. Page, i think, is overrated. don't see what's special. Jungle Boy is still a bit green (lol). the guy they had on commentary for this match didn't really add much.

Cody/Allin was really good. highly enjoyed it. the coffin drop was mad. they did a good job here of making Allin look like a beast. the chair shot after was brutal. not sure why Cody bladed the part of his head that didn't experience any impact. weird to play up CTE testing (which i believe you can't do until the person is dead).

Elite/Luchas was really fucking good. bit of a spotfest, but i enjoy those, so no big deal

Moxley/Janella was also brutal. Moxley showed he hadn't lost his edge when it came to violence. Janella will basically take any bump. Moxley ended up looking the worst for wear at the end, but it kept me enthralled. the post-match beatdown by Omega was good too.

overall: fun show. preshow really had me worried. these guys should not be trying so much comedy. felt like the whole pre-show was filled with way too much of it.

page is really just riding off his good showing in last year's g1 but AEW hasn't made him appear to be anything special, certainly not worthy of main eventing their next big show for the world title. he's been mixing it up with havoc, jungle boy and mjf, and while mjf is a great character the other two basically still feel like curtain jerkers.

the pre-show and a lot of the angles they ran at double or nothing does have me sort of concerned about how their weekly TV will come across. a lot of the stuff they do outside matches with their very top stars and mjf promos can look really bush league.

All that stuff is what they’ve been doing on BTE, which is fine...for that audience. They need to figure out how to write actual television as well as the YouTube-style stuff.

yeah, what works on pre-taped youtube vids isnt gonna come across as well on a live broadcast, whether it's real time or taped. the pacing and reactions feel delayed or drawn out, which you can get away with in a youtube vid because you dont have the buzz of a crowd underscoring things.

so far, all of the non-wrestling segments on their two shows have felt incredibly scripted, which is odd given how much they wanna push freedom of character and expression.

Main show was so, so much better than the pre-show. Really impressed with how good this how was considering it was basically a Clash of the Champions. I like the New Japan model of doing more tag matches on the lesser shows to keep your guys fresh, keep the matchups fresh, and make the singles matches feel bigger. I would have loved a quick promo or something from Jericho and Dustin but I'm cool with not having every single top star be on each show, especially the smaller ones.

I do think the unprotected chair shot was dumb. Like, it looks fake when you turn around, look at somebody swinging a chair at you, and don't try to block it. Your instinct is to put your hands up. A chairshot to the head would have been impactful even if it was protected because we don't see them in WWE anymore.

Really excited for this. Pro wrestling needs this right now.

When khan was in Austin's podcast he mentioned that this show was more Kenny's project and not exactly what AEW was going to be going forward.

I enjoyed it. Was excited to see Allin wrestle and he absolutely delivered. Dude is crazy fast.

I really enjoyed the women's three way, haven't seen a ton of joshi wrestling before but it's unique and I dig it.

That bump by Darby on the ring apron was outrageous. Love how they put his toughness and resolve over without under compensating his skill. Cody lost nothing as he was dominant. Chair shot from Spears I wasn't huge on, CTE is something that I can live without in my wrestling. Bladejobs are fine, legit head trauma not so much. Spears gets a chance to show something in the 3rd or 4th match from top at All Out then, I'm dubious as to whether he's good enough but we'll see.

Looking forward to Dustin and Cody reigning in the Young Bucks. They're a great team, but their special attraction matches just mold into one. Unbelievable athletes, but you may as well wait for the highlights video. Working a character based match will do them wonders, I enjoyed the Golen Lovers match a great deal for example. The 6 man was just a collection of spots, entertaining but forgettable.

Moxley has put together a great few weeks in terms of creating interest with his character arc. Main event didn't reinvent the wheel but it was two entertaining guys going at it and dipping the toes into the hardcore stuff that I presume will get escalated once Havoc and Janella get established.

Everything else on the main card did its job. MJF is class.

Pre show opened hot. Librarian gimmick and the black out guys are rubbish but I guess trial and error will manage things like that out. That Leva Bates is a terrible pro wrestler.

What I liked is that it already feels quite episodic. As well as building to the big matches, there's seeds elsewhere for the future with Omega/Pentagon, Omega/Jericho, MJF/Page, Cody/Allin 2 and the Japanese girls all set up with no destination in sight.

Am I alone in not being bothered by the chair shot? Dudes get cte from heading soccer balls, and some evidence shows football players get brain trauma from hits that aren't even to the head. These dudes are probably catching a bit of trauma every time they take a bump.

I don't want to see chair shots to the head every week... Same as I don't want to see a blood bath every show, but in a big moment I'm ok with both as long as the guys are ok with it.

And considering this was Shawn debuting a nasty heel character in what is probably leading to a match at All Out... I consider it a big moment

Yeah, like the rest, I thought the preshow opener was great and the Librarian gimmick and that 3rd match were totally embarrassing.

Thankfully, the main show was pretty bloody good. Cima and Daniels was decent, really liked the women's 3 way and Cody and Allin. The 6 man was excellent. Main event, well, it was what it was. Wouldn't want to see matches like this too often, but it Was Moxley's first, so I'm fine with him wanting to leave a lasting impression. Some of that shit was brutal.

And yes, I wasn't keen seeing the unprotected chair shot either.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is the commentary. JR may be a little out of touch, but how refreshing was it to watch a 3 hour show with the commentators not bickering? That was very refreshing to me.

Main show, a solid 8 out of 10, though I am being slightly generous. What excites me about AEW is the potential. Work on and keep the comedy to a minimum and I'll be a happy man.

Decent interview. Tony seems a pretty down-to-earth guy who just enjoys wrestling and wants to make some money off it. I like his candid attitude, and the fact he had no problem going way over the allotted time for questions just because he sees it as a chance to catch up with all the reporters. I also think he did a good job of not killing kayfabe while explaining some of the behind-the-scenes magic. Probably most controversial thing I heard is that he outright does not want to do intergender wrestling(or at least, it would be a big discussion and would not be anywhere in the near future) and didn't like the penis druids. But it seems like the penis druids he wasn't necessarily against.

I think one of the biggest takeaways from here as far as AEW's future is the TV and PPV/Streaming product will be decidedly different, and some of the more extreme stuff we see will be reserved for TV. My assumption on this is people might still flip the bird or drop a heavy cuss word on TV, but it'll be censored, and the extreme violence will be kept to a minimum. I'm totally fine with that. As long as the TV deal doesn't force them to water things down like WWE has to.

I am curious why it's controversial to not want to have women v. men but maybe I'm old school lol.

It used to be controversial to WANT to see women and men beat the fuck out of each other in a simulated contest of violence.

It's not so much the opinion as the topic in general is kind of controversial. But I think the general opinion from indy fans is that intergender wrestling is fine, and since this is basically the mainstream version of an indy fed, I could see there being more of the fanbase being skeptical of the decision than being completely on board with it.

I'd be ok with men vs. women if it's presented as equal. Most times, especially in the WWE, it's someone like Bubba Dudley putting a valet through a table. I don't want to see that. I wouldn't mind seeing Charlotte Flair vs. AJ Styles, for example. Both competitive athletes. In a legitimate (pro wrestling) contest. I don't need to see Steve Austin wailing Lita with a chair.

I'd pump the brakes on saying the general opinion is that it's cool with fans of independent wrestling. I'm a huge fan, and I don't care to see that shit. Keep in mind the crowd size of the promotions that do this kind of stuff. 12 fans=not the general opinion.

Obviously just my opinion but I don't want to see anything that could lead to men/boys thinking it's ok to do something to women/girls because they saw it on WWE. We already get that shit happening but to have a valid excuse other than doing moves to your little sister....yeah no thanks.

Obviously just my opinion but I don't want to see anything that could lead to men/boys thinking it's ok to do something to women/girls because they saw it on WWE. We already get that shit happening but to have a valid excuse other than doing moves to your little sister....yeah no thanks.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that representative of the community as a whole. My own sample size probably isn't particularly value, but I see a lot of fans on Twitter and the general internet, as well as people I know in real life, who are completely cool with intergender wrestling. I'm not saying it like it's a concrete fact.

Even still, like I said, the topic itself is controversial, so it didn't really matter what his answer was.

Yes, I'm aware that my opinion doesn't represent the community as a whole, that's exactly what my response to you was about saying "indy fans" are cool with it. Generalizing something like women v. men=cool, that's controversial.

Yes, as you said after the fact that now it's not his answer but just the topic in general that was controversial....If that's all you thought was controversial was him being asked that question, then what was the point of caring about his answer like you did? Because to everyone else it sounds like you are saying him being completely against it was controversial. My bad for misunderstanding.

Is the topic really THAT controversial? It seems pretty clear. If they want to treat wrestling as a simulated sporting event, show me the other sports that have men v. women and how that works out for them. I'm just being general about that request I don't want YOU to find anything lol.

For me, men wrestling women is no different than seeing Hornswoggle as CW champion or Kenny Omega wrestling a 9 year old or some dude having magic powers in his dick that makes Yokozuna sized wrestlers backflip over the top turnbuckle simply by looking at it.

I mean, if you want to say my comment was controversial, then whatever. I was just making a comment about the bits I thought most people would have comment on. It wasn't meant to mean controversial in the sense that it's "bad," just that it's a divisive topic because people have pretty strong opinions on both sides. I wasn't saying I thought his opinion was a bad one.

I wouldn't want to see male vs female mma fight but wrestling is a work. It's different, if the match is good I don't really care about genitals.

It's part of why you don't hear the backlash over Nyla Rose you do over Fallon Fox, because it's a work. It's... Different

As to the question, no, I don't want to see it. Degenerative brain diseases are absolute cunts.
Was the chair gimmicked? I mean, I guess it doesn't matter considering it sliced Cody open. My issue is with Cody not putting his hands up to take the brunt of the blow.

According to the Bucks in a post-show interview, it was gimmicked. They kinda made it seem like they weren't sure how it would work.

Seems to me that the Seat was rubber-ized but the Back Support part was not gimmicked, and it was the underside edge of that, that caused the cut.

    Back, and to the left

The show felt a bit rough around the edges, but I think overtime AEW will iron those out. It seems each show is getting better and better. Can't wait for Fight for the Fallen.

Yeah I mean I've engaged in the conversation relating it to movies and tv shows where men and women are fighting each other all the time. Wrestling as we all know has a very gray area of Is this simulated sports or simulated violence or a bit of both.....It usually depends on how the mainstream reacts to something lol.

Am I the only one who was getting a Bash at the Beach vibe with their set? It was pretty fresh.
