I barely give a shit about anything on this card. Probably most interested in Bayley vs. Bliss just 'cuz it's fresh.

Card looking great, the addition of a special guest referee is intriguing. Perhaps Bray Wyatt? Don't expect Corbin to win but it would be nice to see. Kofi should retain here. Who does he feud with afterwards?

Nah, I'm just failing to see how anyone can think WWE is currently a dumpsterfire. I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be. It's been this way for years and it's not until something like AEW or Jon Moxley comes along that they start shitting on it. I think people are blinded.

I'm ok with an alternative, it only helps everyone involved. I'm sure if the internet was around when WCW started up people would have shit on WWE too. The New Generation wasn't the best generation by any means, but it was still a fun time for me at least.

And that match is only "fresh" because it's about 2 years since they last feuded and they killed all of Bayley in the span of 2 months. Worst female feud since the days of Melina v. Ashley Massaro.

Why does Bliss wrestle with a shirt on all the time now? She gets new boobs and hides them. Sad.

I mean there was internet around when the MNW were going down. And it was a lot of the same kind of talk. One sucks more than the other type stuff, just not as many people like today voicing their opinions lol.

And don't take people feeling underwhelmed by this card so far as it having anything to do with AEW, New Japan, etc. It might be they're seeing the same matches again, some that people aren't that high on to begin with (Rollins v. Corbin for example). But I think most will deliver. The only match I don't think will is the one I just mentioned.

Dolph v. Kofi in a cage will be cool at least. I think Drew v. Roman in a No DQ type match would be much better and Drew needs this W more than anything right now. You can't have Shane beat Roman and not have Drew get the win as well.

It's more than just the same old matches though. The addition of a mystery guest referee is very intriguing. Like you said, the cage match element adds to Kofi and Dolph.

Even Reigns and McIntyre has something going for it because their match at WrestleMania wasn't built up well and was basically just Roman's come back match. Now they have a full storyline with Drew and Shane vs. Reigns. I'm really enjoying Shane's heel run and while I don't think McIntyre will win this match, I'm still looking forward to it.

Only match I'm kind of eh on is Lacey vs. Becky as I'm not really a fan of either.

I'm looking forward to Kofi and Dolph. Alexa and Bayley could have been better last time. I feel like its got at least some potential.

Really not into Corbin and Seth. Seth's typically a solid match, but there doesn't seem to be chemistry there.

I like McIntyre, but there's no momentum there, and they're going to have to break some things out to make it feel fresh at all.

Becky vs. Lacey is not compelling in story or match quality.

I'm not sure that the card is as far as performance, but it garners no special reaction. With the exception of Kofi/Dolph most matches "feel" like a normal tv.

And I just read they're having issues with selling tickets at this arena, which seats over 20,000 fans. Why on Earth they would book a venue of that size for a throwaway "ppv" like this is beyond me. And the card isn't anything special to try to hotshot book everything to be appealing to a lot of fans.

I mean, get Daniel Bryan on the fucking card in some way. Him and Rowan v. Nakamura/Rusev is a pretty big match if you ask me. Bryan and Nakamura mixing it up=huge. I'm not even sure how you have a card in his home state and don't even have him in an angle.

He's on Smackdown shitting on the competition in the tag division and nobody has stepped up to my knowledge. Again, so many entertaining possibilities and no dance partners to go with it. Didn't Authors of Pain get drafted to SD? Send them out and fuck up Bryan and Rowan for talking that shit.

I'd like to see AoP vs. the Viking War Raiders Experience. I think Daniel Bryan and Rowan should team up against Otis and Tucker.

Stomping Grounds is what they would have named a PPV when Stone Cold was still around. Because he stomps mudholes in people.

They're using it now because Rollins uses the Stomp

    Pimps live by this motto:

    PUSSY AINT GOT NO FACE

Anyone who has seen the HBO doc "Hookers at the Point" know this to be true.

    that's a legitimate counter argument.

Also, I think the Godfather just had people show up at the show.

Past Roman vs Drew and Bliss vs Bayley matches haven't been good. Lacey Evans vs Becky wasn't good the last time they faced and we've seen Corbin vs Rollins before. Adding a special ref will probably bring the match quality down even more (see Owens vs Styles w/ Shane as the ref). I hope they prove me wrong with a decent show.

Also, I don't get the need to use a new ppv name when they already have good ones at their disposal?

Yeah, I wish they would bring back some of the old names. I really miss the King of the Ring, which happened in June yearly. If they kept the rosters separate, it would have been cool to see 8 guys from Smackdown and 8 guys from RAW be entered into the tournament and see them on the PPV in fresh match-ups. Also, Bash at the Beach and Halloween Havoc would be cool to see as well. Gives a theme to get the fans excited.

They are obviously against using the WCW ppv names for some reason even though they busted out the Bash like 10 years ago and use War Games for NXT and use the Starrcade name every year. When you think about it, is the name of the show going to change anyone's viewing habits? Probably not. It's still a lame ppv name

Roman v. Drew at Mania was average at best. Could have been due to the ppv having 100 matches, could be that while visually it looks like a cool match, the chemistry might not be there. The storylines Drew finds himself in are stale. The muscle trying to be the main guy.

"good ones at their disposal"=old WCW ppv names or old WWF ppv names?

Stomping Grounds isn't a horrible name. We've definitely had worse over the last 30 years. Spring Stampede comes to mind. Great Balls of Fire though is by far the worst. Ever.

Eh, that's all nostalgia to older fans like us. And I'll be honest, the names weren't important but the event itself. Halloween Havoc is a corny as corn can get name, but the event itself was always treated as arguably the #1 ppv of the year.

And to be honest, wouldn't this kind of fall under the category of the WWE not being able to let go of the past? Bringing back WCW ppv names like Starrcade just doesn't make sense. But I'd be glad to see the return of a ppv name like No Mercy, Judgement Day, but ultimately these ppv names are "cool" to us because that's what we grew up on.

I did always like the ppv name "UNCENSORED" but in this day and age, it would not mean dick lol.

I miss the gimmick PPVs to be honest. Like I"m not saying have a Big Show vs. Rowan steps match cause that was awful. But I mean like a Survivor Series were every match is 4 on 4 or 5 on 5, or Extreme Rules were every match had a stipulation. Just gets me more excited. PPV long tournaments I was a fan of.

I agree. I'm not a fan of ppvs like TLC, Hell In A Cell, but the ones you're talking about are what I did enjoy. Survivor Series being nothing but multi-person elimination, King of the Ring, Extreme Rules where every match had a gimmick, those were dope. I'll say this, Elimination Chamber being a lead in ppv for Mania, I wasn't negative to that concept either. But when you can't have a HIAC match at Summerslam, that pisses me off lol.

Rollins does the Stomp. Rollins is my boy. They named a ppv after him. I love it.

"Stomping Grounds" sounds like it should be held in Madison Square Garden...
When I think of WWE's stomping grounds, I don't think the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington...

The name sucks but the logo looks like it was created by an intern. And looking at the card I'd name this show Recycled.

I dont see why they put off joe vs braun any further than this ppv. Braun will stay interesting even if he cant slam joe.

If alexa's still got it i could see her vs bayley being really good. Theyve got good history together

Baron Corbin couldn't have an interesting match if he got an interesting enema. Hell, Seth Rollins tried his damnedest in Saudi Arabia to drag Corbin to something approaching perfectly acceptable wrestling, and he barely got him there with a crowd that would've cheered if a dog in a WWE branded collar had taken a shit in the middle of the ring. Corbin is a talent and charisma vacuum who sucks the interesting out of everything and everyone around him. He's terrible.

Kingston/Ziggles has the chance to be good, but again, its a repeat. At least this time they've got the cage to work in.

Alexa Bliss and This Is Your Terrible Life killed Bayley once already.

In real life, Lacey Evans could probably pick her teeth with Becky Lynch in a fight. But fuck, Evans is a rough wrestler.

Reigns/McIntyre could be good. But their Wrestlemania match had all the heat of a Snoopy Snow Cone Machine. I'm not expecting much more here. Drew Mac is a stepping stone for Roman on his way to get back to Shane and then onwards back into the main event scene at some point. This should be fun, but its fluffy filler. Like a pillow full of ice cream, only somebody's going to get Speared and there's no ice cream.

It's been a problem with these non big 4, non-gimmick PPV's for a long time. How do you make them interesting? MITB, Elimination Chamber, TLC and Hell in a Cell are the established big gimmick shows. Then Fast Lane they focus on because it's Wrestlemania season. In the post-PPV era, the rest is just content for contents sake at this stage. Some rematches from bigger events, some screw finishes to set up bigger events. Perfectly watchable but never essential viewing.

The 2 best matches I've seen Corbin in were the Triple Threat on Smackdown early in the brand split (he wrestled either AJ & Ziggler, or AJ & Cena) and the chairs match with Kalisto. Other than that, his matches are forgettable.

As several people have said, Lacey was brought up too soon. There's a video a fan took where she sandbags Bayley while taking the Bayley to Belly. She made no effort to jump to give the suplex some impact.

Roman and Drew need to move far, far away from each other. It feels like they've been feuding forever and it's doing neither of them any favors.

I'd much rather watch a best of 7 Ricochet-Cesaro than a rerun of Roman & Drew. I expect a much different outcome this time, like Shane interfering and Drew winning. These are two powerful guys who just don't seem to be clicking. Reminds me of the Orton-Sheamus, Big Show-Reigns rerun matches where they were done far too often. About the major PPVs, I would like a KOTR one brought back for the summer heading into summerslam.

Sheamus-Orton is probably the worst long-term, overplayed feud between the some of the best talent that we've ever seen. But I'd rather see that again, or even Pete Rose v Kane again, over another coupla rounds of Roman v Drew.

I'm not as negative about Roman-Drew as others. I just don't know if they'll ever have the ultimate chemistry that I'm sure some would like them to have. I also think Drew lost some steam jobbing to Roman at Mania.

Honestly, I could see a hardcore match between them being pretty good. I don't know. I'm not a big Drew mark like a lot of people seem to be. Or Roman for that matter.

For me it's just that they're not even telling a story. I would probably enjoy Rollins & McIntyre in this many repeat matchups. I get that it's like they're treating Shane as that end-level boss that awaits Roman again at some point, probably over the title, but they have better options like even including Zayn or Owens.

Exactly. There's no stakes in the Roman/Drew feud. It's just wrapped up in all the Shane nonsense.

I wouldn't say there are no stakes. Roman is out for revenge. Plain and simple. For Drew it's getting a HUGE win, which would for sure put him closer to the title. The affiliation with Shane, no different than what Drew said about why he hooked up with Dolph. Nothing personal, all business, all methods to get closer to the top.

It's honestly a solid storyline overall, it just lacks chemistry between those involved. It's hard to get down with Roman and this underdog bullshit they keep putting on him. How do you consider a guy who has defeated the likes of Lesnar, Undertaker, and John Cena within a year? ). He beat Triple H, he beat Orton, Daniel Bryan, literally anyone you can think of that's mattered in the last 10 years sans a couple guys who were either retired or gone by the time he would have had a singles matches to beat them in (Austin, Rock, Edge, Punk, HBK for example).

So they stack the deck against Roman but we all know he will prevail because he's done it 100 times in a short amount of time. So Drew really needs to win this and win it CLEAN. Fuck the protection. You can always run it back and do a 3rd match and have Roman or Drew get that final victory to seal the deal but right now Drew needs it. No bs from Shane, Elias, Revival just a stupid ass running kick finisher and boom, here comes Seth's Summerslam challenger.

Drew should win here but I doubt it's clean. Will a win that's not clean elevate him? Probably not. it should be clean. Then let Roman win the blowoff at Hell in a Cell down the line.

I agree. Drew should give Roman a Claymore Kick and a quick pin (within 30 seconds). That would reinforce the power of his finisher, shock the hell out of the crowd, and elevate Drew. But Roman wouldn't be hurt that bad by a loss, he can say he didn't take Drew seriously blah blah blah. Everyone knows Roman is THE GUY, but if THE CHOSEN ONE beats THE GUY clean, it gives Drew a chance to step out of the shadow.

But since they seem to be making both shows all about Shane, it won't happen

Last night's Firefly Funhouse almost felt like the TV return for Bray is so close, but I'm enjoying the build too much expecting his return to be mishandled immediately.

It definitely lead me to think he might be showing up at Stomping Grounds but I'm not even sure what I would want him to do that wouldn't get a "meh" response. I feel like the whole thing could really take a slide once he appears live and gets into a feud/matches and we realize it's just the same ol' Bray being handled like the same ol' Bray.

Yes. I think the ability to edit in visual effects for the segments helps, but you take that away and unless he changes moveset or does something new or different, it won't do much. I'm just happy he's back on screen.

Whatever happens, Bray needs to be dominant when he returns. They can't have Ali get a surprise upset win in 2 months.

Considering they've mishandled Bray almost his entire career, it's hard to think otherwise.

they've mishandled much more than Bray. I have zero confidence they handle Black any better lol.

It's kind of sad what's happened to Elias, Rusev, and Nakamura after the shakeup. Elias was playing a decent face and was so over and he's basically ruined.

now I have great memories of when the camera would pan the entrance and the surprise kane pryo would shoot off

Rambling Rabbit would be a good choice.

I'm still trying to figure out why they debuted Black on the main roster, had him show the audience what he can do for months, and then took him off tv. Now he's cooled off and I don't think those vignettes have helped him much. People were begging for Black/Nakamura, but Nak isn't anywhere to be seen either. I'm not sure how Black will be received when he finally returns to tv since the popularity of the Firefly Funhouse has overshadowed his vignettes.

His teaming with Ricochet made zero sense. I still hate that they did that

I've got no issues with what they've done with Black. The team with Ricochet was a great debut where they were immediately doing something that mattered, got to showcase their in-ring ability, and got on the Mania card. Then they split, Ricochet's doing pretty well, and Black's had a nice character establishing series of promos (something more people could benefit from) and the intrigue of a challenge to be answered. People are acting like he got the EC3 treatment when he's, if anything, seemingly lined up for some serious spotlight.

The tag team stuff just didn't seem to fit his character. He's certainly not ruined. it all depends on how they handle him moving forward

Why is Black issuing challenges from a room? What has he really accomplished and maybe I missed it but I don't remember hearing in those promos that the WWE are finding no one who wants to fight him. Which makes ZERO SENSE, this isn't MMA where people can turn down fights like bitches. Maybe he's supposed to be a heel? In that case ok, I get it.

But if he's a babyface, then he's confusing the fuck out of everyone because he hasn't done anything to really make that gimmick work. It'd be one thing if he was smashing people every week then all the sudden, nobody wanted to step up. But again, makes no sense in pro wrestling.

"These Boots Are Made For Walking" is the theme song for Stomping Grounds? Because of course it is.

    So.... here's my prediction..
Brock will be special guest ref...
    Corbin won't win the title...
Brock will cash in as ref and try to get the 3 count that he counts himself
Seth will knock out brock and use brocks arm/hand to do the 3 count
    And retain the title

For the next phase of Bray Wyatt, I'd have him lay people out and terrorize them backstage...in the office...etc.

Put his physical debut off until SummerSlam. But have him make his presence known for a couple months in vignettes where he reaks havoc on others.

Make him like a character from a classic horror movie.

this card is so bad i'm sort of more interested in watching it than an average down-season PPV just to see how it turns out. maybe this is WWE's strategy.

kofi/ziggler in a steel cage though. yikes. when was the last good steel cage match?

Baron Corbin vs Seth Rollins is like Main Eventing a PPV with The Big Bossman vs Stone Cold.

They main evented a PPV with John Cena vs. John Laurinaitis. Rollins himself faced a cold Dolph Ziggler in the main event of a PPV last year, and not even over the marquee title. The match sucks, as does the card, but it's not a new measuring stick for mediocrity.

Not even that big. Itís basically like doing Benoit vs Chief Morley. A guy who is good in the ring that people like, but isnít exactly a huge draw vs a guy who isnít terrible, but gets apathy moreso than crowd-drawing Heat.

Maybe wait until after the ppv to bash it. No wonder no one likes anything.

Well we have quite a few rematches that a majority of people didn't like before happening again at this show, so I can't say I blame them.

    Sure.

So how many times can you be disappointed until you realize that optimism should maybe go elsewhere?

I think Ricochet/Joe should be very good. Ziggler/Kofi should be sold, but there really isn't anything else on the rest of the card to be excited about. Even with the briefcase being in play... I couldn't really be bothered with a lot of it.
