And so the Texans fire their GM Brian Gaine after all of one full season on the job.

This 'organization' is so perpetually difficult to root for.

I know nothing of the guy but I'd say that with Deshaun and Hopkins, and a few more good years of JJ Watt hopefully, they should be in win now mode. If they thought Gaine didn't get the job done in terms of depth building and in-season moves, or he wasn't on the same page with BOB, then maybe it's better to cut ties now.

All I know is keep your paws off Nick Caserio. I doubt the Pats would let him leave. Not that they would contractually hold him I just think tt they would match whatever price he gets offered. He's integral and Belichick praises him all the time. 18 years he's been with the team now.

Rumor is that Gaine has shown too much passivity in his short time for the likes of the new Mr. McNair. Fair argument, but it was still so very sudden. And it ultimately means that O'Brien is under just as much pressure to produce now or he's in McNair's ear trying to gain as much control as he can. Hopefully the former, of course.

Caserio is absolutely their number 1 target.

The Patriots filed tampering charges Wednesday against the Houston Texans for the attempted general manager hire of Nick Caserio, league sources told ESPN. The NFL now is expected to gather relevant informant to open its investigation against Houston.

Texans: “So, is that a no on the interview?”

A play-by-play of the utter disaster known as the AAF. I find it interesting how poorly planned and managed it was from the start. At no point in this article did it ever seem like something that had a possibility of success. Perhaps this is where things went wrong:

One day, Charlie ran the rough idea past his dad. You need to talk to two people, Dick replied: John Madden and Bill Polian.

Reports here, from all over really, are that we want him and he wants to be here, so just a matter of either fighting the tampering charges or forking over a midround pick to just seal the deal.

Not the most graceful way of going about this, but given how uncoordinated this FO is most of the time ... fuck, I'll take it.

Apparently the plan now is to go all in on Caserio after this season once his contract is up with NE. To which I imagine a scenario something like -

his contract runs out, he's brought in to discuss the position, the Texans divulge everything about the organization, he tells them to fuck themselves and reports back everything he learns to Belichick while he and the pats celebrate his new contract with them over cognac and many laughs at the ineptitude of this team.

Gutted when I’m in New York 22nd September there’s not any games on at Met Life. No home games for Giants or the scum and my Dolphins play twice away there and it’s later on in the season.

Melvin Gordon holdout watch 2019. Will the Chargers cave and pay him, will another team trade and sign him, or will he sit out the year? Fantasy football drafters await.

Perhaps he will learn from Bell's experience sitting out a season, that running backs are extremely replaceable

I like the idea of the league shortening the length of rookie contracts for rb's.

yea, idk. he should learn from bell that his value is probably not what he wants it to be, so if the chargers offer him an extension that's reasonable maybe he should take it. but I'm not sure what the chargers have offered. if it's nothing reasonable, sitting out may be the correct move.

it would seem odd to shorten it for only a certain position.

my main feeling here is that whatever action he and his agent agree to take is perfectly reasonable. people saying he or Le'Veon shouldn't sit out, or should accept a certain deal for which we don't even know the fine print, is pretty asinine. I've never had a job where my role is to literally to have other giant athletes damage and destroy my body, causing long term and permanent destruction, and it's hard to put myself in their shoes. sitting out a year to lower your financial risk certainly seems viable. if he gets seriously hurt and never gets that second contract, that's a nightmare.

It honestly would, but that certain position is already unique in how it's so often chewed up and spit out just as a usual rookie deal is up.

Idk, just a suggestion I'd heard by one talking head or another (Jalen Rose?) that I was intrigued by.

4 Players Have Received A 99 Overall Rating In Madden NFL 20

Three defensive players earned a 99 overall rating: Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, Chicago Bears pass rusher Khalil Mack, and Seattle Seahawks inside linebacker Bobby Wagner.

The fourth player – and only offensive player – to make the list was Houston Texas wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Coming off career-highs in receptions, yards, and catch rate, Hopkins earned All-Pro honors for the second year in a row.
    Stoked for DHop.

Sterling Shepard fractured his thumb and Corey Coleman tore his ACL.

If only the Giants had another receiver.

Bad training camp headline for sure, but Shepard should be okay for the regular season and Coleman stinks so it's not too detrimental. They're tanking this year anyway aren't they?

giants are really gonna suck. it would be funny if they draft Tua and trade Jones similar to what the Cardinals did this year

Dolphins firing their O-Line coach a week into camp. Always a good sign, definitely fully functional and well run team.

Have faith. Better to do it now than later and Dave DeGuglielmo would appear to be the perfect contingency plan.

If at any point the Dolphins ever deserved any faith of mine I would. You're right though it's better to do it now if it wasn't working instead of waiting longer into camp.

$100 MM contract for Mike Thomas. In my opinion, he is top 3 in the league alongside Jones and Hopkins.

Ton of talent and nothing more than splitting hairs at best there.

Cool to see Wagner getting love. Also interesting to see how players ignore health concerns (Brees, Gurley) to rate dudes they really appreciate.

His age as a natural health degradation that was pretty clearly showing in the latter part of the season.

Was just trying to be concise in lumping them together. Call it what you will. Players will always bias players is the point, and it's fairly interesting.

Brees and Gurley both had MVP caliber years last year so I have no issue with them being so high on the list. They deserve the praise. They both fell off at the end of the year and saw a decrease in production, with Gurley it was due to the knee injury and with Brees I don't think we know why so people are fairly or unfairly chalking it up to old age. In any event, their statlines for the whole season remained stellar so yea give them the votes. Really this list is about who was the best last year, and they were right up there.

Mahomes should be ahead of Brees IMO but it's splitting hairs like you said.

Brees' closing stretch was pretty consistently not mvp caliber, and it was due to his inability to drive the ball downfield. The latter is being chalked up to age, admittedly whether that's entirely fair or not. Unspoken injuries perhaps? Either way, health concerns.

    Agreed about Mahomes.

My guess with Brees is he will come out strong again and put up MVP-esque numbers due in large part to having Thomas, Kamara and now Jared Cook as weapons. He's 40. Brady and Favre both had MVP seasons at 40 (okay Favre didn't win but he should have). Brees should be fine assuming he puts in the proper strength training work in the offseason (and I assume he does). He's never been injury prone and it's not that demanding of a position in this day and age. But the question will rightfully linger of whether his arm will fade at the end of the season again.

If Bell plays the whole season then him.

DJ has the ability to really break put this season with Murray's playmaking ability, but it's definitely riskier

If you trust the Jets to be capable as an offense, then Bell. The Cardinals were a dumpster fire last season and Johnson was still a top-10 back in most leagues with a PPR format. I'm not sure I necessarily trust the Jets.

yes it's barkley. him, zeke, mccaffrey and kamara were "the big 4" but zeke may be out of that if he's still holding out.

I think a lot of people say it's Barkley but McCaffrey has a viable resume. The argument many will make for a pro-McCaffrey pick is that the Giants are trash and that can limit the ceiling for Barkley, while McCaffrey is the engine, the team is fairly good, and there's other options where teams have to stay somewhat honest.

I'd take Barkley over McCaffrey, then Kamara, DJ, then Bell. Zeke's holdout worries me too much and would keep him out of my top 5.

Sam Darnold wouldn't wish Tom Brady a Happy Birthday in a lighthearted video clip, when lots of others had done so, because it would be giving him a competitive advantage.

Duke Johnson traded to the Texans for a 4th round pick that can conditionally become a 3rd. A 3rd would be a fairly high price to pay but regardless, it's a nice add for the Texans to compliment Lamar Miller. It's a win-now team with Deshaun still on his rookie deal so I like the move.

When I saw that, my initial thought was to raise an eyebrow, because he left before she got sewn back up - her guts were still outside her, and he didn't even take the time to cut the umbilical cord. But when I stop to think about it, it's really between him and his wife. If she was good with it, then why should I or anyone else care?

The 4th becomes a 3rd rounder if Duke is active for 10 games so that's likely to happen. An overpay by acting GM Bill O'Brien I'd say, but they got a playmaker. Dukie is a 1,000 yard guy when given the opportunity.

Nice move by the Browns to add a solid chip for next year's draft while shedding a player they don't need anymore.

Ya, he isn't coming cheap. Especially with everyone in the league aware of his wanting out and their crowded backfield.

But he's also locked up affordably for three more years so that helps offset the cost.

But we also still have Matt Kalil and Seantrel Henderson as our starting tackles, so..

If Houston is a win-now team, they're SOL because their O-line leaves way more to be desired for a win-now team.

They probably should've traded for Trent Williams instead. Not sure what Washington would be asking but if it was a 2nd and his cap number, I think it's worth it.

Just catching up on this Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi story, and even if/when it ends soon, it's been pretty great so far..

Soooo what's going on with Andrew Luck? Every few days his injury seems to be something different, but there seems to be no timetable for his return. It feels an awful lot like 2017. I'm probably staying away from the Colts for fantasy.

I think he’ll be okay. In 2017 it was his shoulder, now it’s seemingly his ankle so it’s not the same issue. Although the Colts sure make it damn tough to know what the hell is going on with his injuries. But I see him missing week 1 or 2 and then being okay.

I wish it were possible for hard knocks to be a season long show.

Jerry Jones with a rather unusual take on his experience in dealing with contract negotiations..

“Picture if you were the driver of a car, and you had a wreck and your hand was almost severed off. but you didn’t understand your anatomy. You look down. You’re spurting blood. You open the door and run to the woods and either die of bleeding to death or shock. The educated man looks down, knows his anatomy, squeezes and knows his best chance is to wait for help. That’s because he’s been there a lot and done that. And so I’m squeezing and waiting for help.”

That seems tame, when he's openly talked about wanting gloryhole and masturbating in his own shoes.

He’s made of glass, such a shame.

    Lowliness is young ambition's ladder,

Josh Gordon reinstated. Huge weapon for the Pats who are weak at WR. I hope he lasts the whole season but I'm not counting on it.
