So benching Trubisky must be Nagy waving the white flag?

    Daniel is not the answer

Regarding MVP: still lots of season left. But yes, if the season ended today I think Lamar Jackson wins it.

Daniel somehow managed to look even worse than Trubisky (granted smaller sample size, but still). Overall, that game was rough to watch. Two teams who were supposed to have electric offenses who'd taken a step further from last year's teams. But that has not been the case lol.

I wonder how that Eagles/Pats game would've went if Lane Johnson didn't get hurt. Either way, Eagles offense looked like shit. Both defenses played well. Thankfully Eagles schedule gets easier after the Seahawks game which they need to win

Why’s it Lamar’s MVP at this point? I’d say they are level. Both carried their offence plenty of games this season.

Whats wrong with Michael Thomas being MVP?

    Guy is an absolute machine.

If you think he's been a better/more valuable player (depending on your interpretation of the award) than Wilson, Jackson, or McCaffrey ... then nothing.

He really has been a stud.

Even without Brees he put up pretty great numbers. They aren't deep at receiver so you'd think they'd figure him out, but they haven't.

I'd say McCaffrey has a better argument for non-QBs rather than Thomas.

Yeah this really. Brees has been out, Kamara has been out, no real talent at WR beyond Thomas and yet he keeps producing week in week out.

The short answer is that Lamar Jackson appears to be having a season that no QB has ever had before in the history of the league.

Narrative goes a long way in determining MVP, then 'what have you done for me lately' shifts positioning on a week-to-week basis. Seattle was on a bye and Baltimore looked strong in a premiere matchup amongst MVP-calibre QBs so that went a long way for Jackson,

Remember the talk of making him a WR the media kept putting out there around draft time.

I think the narrative was still in Jackson's favor last week when Wilson and the Hawks beat an undefeated niners team.

The Seahawks have a tougher schedule down the stretch I think which will lead to 2-3 more losses in my opinion. should help Baltimore's case if they get a first round bye

If both Lamar and Russ continue at their current paces, they should share the MVP award.

And yet Michael Thomas continues his march towards the most receptions in a single season.

Am I right in thinking that a Wide Receiver has never won the MVP?

Jerry Rice did once. But that's it I think.

Just did a quick google, nope Jerry Rice also never won one. So yeah no WR has won.

A placekicker won one though in a strike shortened season...so there's that.

We never know who is going to win the NFL MVP.

I do not know much about football but how is your man Garrett still in charge of the cowboys? Even during All or Nothing he looked like a clown. I mean for being an 'ambitious' team wouldn't you aspire to more than he gives them?

Two games in two out of three weeks to finish the season should be pretty dope.

Best part is we either win to get in or there's no excuse whatsoever to retain O'Brien after losing out to Tenn for the division (no offense)..

I did not expect how well the team would play with Tannehill as the QB. Putting a good run together these Titans.

None taken. I think most people would agree with you. Obviously I dont know the team as intimately as you but it seems like Houston isn't playing up to it's talent level and its pretty easy to argue that Tenn is playing well above its talent level. I mean that's just coaching.

Yeah I'm eating a lot of crow on this Tannehill thing. He still doesnt protect the ball for shit and he overshoots open recievers often but the Titans offense has been clicking almost since the second they benched Mariota.

Brady doesn’t look great but I still think it’s more about his pass catchers being very weak outside of Edelman and not having the power run game they had last year. Brady still has good pocket awareness and avoids the rush rather smoothly. His accuracy isn’t great this year but I don’t think it’s a huge drop off. All that said, even if it’s due to his supporting cast, this mediocre year could result in it being his last, especially if they play like this in the playoffs. I don’t think he would want to play another season like this. But I’m also sure the Pats would do something in the off-season to get him more weapons. Possibly even Gronk will come back.

BTW they were so close to getting that onside kick there. Damn.

They're not that far away offensively. It looks bleak but I'd point out how different the Cowboys looked after they got Cooper. Brady and the offense need something on the outside that will stretch defenses.

Where was Michel this week - was he a flu victim, too? We saw a lot of James White, but he's nowhere near the threat he used to be when defenses concentrated on Gronk.

The Patriots offense is a problem, no denying that. It will be tough for them to make it back to the SB the way they're playing. I expected Sanu to step up and be another Edelman type guy. He hasn't. They have time to figure it out but I thought tonight would have been a step forward and it was the opposite.

They fell behind and that pretty much takes him out of the equation. White had 177 total yards and two TDs so I'd say that was pretty effective as a threat.

Being another Edelman can only take you so far. Obviously that's the hand they've been dealt so you go with it, but they need someone who is a legit deep threat. You need someone to take the top off and make safeties play with depth.

AB would have fixed a LOT of the issues for them if he wasn't a head case.

AB would have fixed all their issues because he's right there with Hop, Jones, Hill, etc as one of the best WRs in the game, if not THE best in the game today and of his generation. Adding a guy like that to a team short on talented pass catchers would change everything.

But I disagree that they need a deep threat. Sure, it helps, but they've won multiple Super Bowls recently without that. You look at the Falcons SB and Chris Hogan was their deep threat that year. It was Edelman, Amendola, Hogan and Malcolm MItchell. Not even Gronk. Chris Hogan isn't very good mind you. Last year their deep threat was.... Gronk? And he wasn't that great last year as a pass catcher.

This is not to say a guy to take the top off wouldn't greatly benefit them right about now, just that they can and have won with inside guys and comeback routes. If Sanu's ankle heals up a little more and he becomes black Edelman like I hoped he would, that can be enough. Dorsett isn't stellar but when you get the inside game cooking he can be your deep threat like the similarly not-stellar Chris Hogan was before him.

There's definitely not a wrong philosophy as they've got skins on the wall but I think it's more restrictive or limited if you don't open the field up. If the defense has been carrying things and they're no longer going to be producing turnovers and scoring opportunities at an historical level, your offense is going to need to pick up the slack. I just think it's trickier to do so when you're a little more predictable and teams can chip/disrupt the time and then the pocket begins to collapse. If, for whatever reason, they're trailing by two possessions, I think it gets that much harder for that team as was the case against Houston. It's not exactly a one-dimensional passing attack but it feels closer to that than diverse or unpredictable, which means your efficiency has to be really on point.

Hey shout out to my boy Brian who's Bengals finally picked up a W. I swear one of the reasons we've been best friends for 30 years is due to our shit teams (mine being the Redskins).

Top 4 AFC seeds Baltimore vs New England vs Houston vs Kansas City this season..

    Balt - 2-1
NE - 0-2 (vs KC this weekend)
    Hou 2-1
KC 1-1 (vs NE this weekend)

..interesting bit of playoff/matchup preview built up so far. Especially from the conference that was a mere two-horse race earlier this year.

Houston can be a dark horse, but they seem like a team that plays with fire too much. Pat's will find a way to be the first seed even though they feel like a fourth seed lately. The NFC is a toss up. AB will be a Patriot again.

I peg the chances of AB returning to the Pats at 1%. It's not happening, as much as I'd like it to.

I don't even think the problem in Carolina is Rivera. I feel its a mistake to get rid of him. In Cleveland, yeah he may can do something.

On that note I've been sick to death all year of this over reaction shit with the Browns. They're getting there for God's sake. They were a fucking joke for so long it was embarassing they were even in the league. And now they're finally playing with a real QB (no he isnt the next Brady yet but fuck does everyone have to be the absolute best or the absoulte worst?) and they've added some big pieces. I think the coach is the only huge problem there and that piece will be fixed and in place soon.

Jesus, Cleveland doesn't make the playoffs and people act like its a fucking crime. They've sucked for years but are finally getting serious about building a team and I think they're really going to get there. But it was never going to happen this season. Defenses got tape on the new QB and he had to adjust. It took him a while but he has started to do just that. They're gonna be fine if they dont fuck up the coaching hire.

I don't think the 'Riverboat' aspect is the real source of intrigue with a hypothetical Cleveland job. It's the sense of stability and direction and focus. He's an established old school player and respected coach, the exact opposite of Kitchens. And he's certainly not Mayfield's bro.

As for Cleveland getting shit on, well ya know, they kind of signed up for it. No they shouldn't be expected to be worldbeaters so soon, that's way too much to ask of a historically moribund franchise. But before the season they were writing enormous checks that have been more than failed to be cashed in on. If they were chill and even semi-humble then I think people wouldn't be so prone to throw dirt on them. But if you're going to talk and mad game then it's back it up or else. I don't hate em, but I got no problem telling em to fuck off and shut up at this point until they get better.

Rivera is a competent adult who can sit in the big chair. Kitchens hasn't really shown he's capable of any of that. Rivera does seem like he's a player's coach, too, but it does remain to be seen if he's capable of thriving or if he's living off reputation now. Regardless, he seems like an improvement over Kitchens.

I just always play devil's advocate in those situations. My feeling is that it's largely the fault of the media. Mayfield was a story and the team spent some money. So the press surrounds these players prompting them for any kind of boastful quote they can get and, being competitive young men, they fall for the trap. Not excusing all of it. There are plenty of players in the league that know not to boast before you actually accomplish anything. But I still give plenty of blame to the way they were covered by the press.

(Lol "press" Like its a guy nicknamed Scoop with a flashbulb camera and a memo card stuck in the brim of his hat that says "press")

Brady vs Mahomes III. I feel like the hype for this game is low because of how the Pats have been playing boring (i.e. shitty offensive) football but both games last year were so good. That AFC title game was one for the ages. I'm hoping this is competitive today. My faith that the Pats will get the offense back on track is wavering. I mean I still believe they'll get something going by the time the playoffs go around, especially if/when they earn a bye week which will give them much needed extra practice time.

That bye is no sure thing though. If we lose to the Chiefs today then next week vs Bills would be for the division lead, I believe.

Edit: my bad, next week the Pats have the Bengals before the Bills in 2 weeks. Nonetheless, the Bills remain only 1 game back in the division with a head-to-head match upcoming.

It's also because Kansas City has been dull, to their standards, in their last few games.

Balitmore has gobbled up most of the electricity, rightfully so.

The refs screwed the Patriots. Somewhat confident building loss though, they should have been in OT with the Chiefs. That's something.

It is also something that they've lost to each division leader in the AFC. I think it's slightly problematic if the seedings break where they have to beat KC and Baltimore (on the road) in order to get out of the AFC.

Hell of a win by San Francisco. Jimmy G rose to the occasion, and I think the Saints D got exposed to an extent.

Cleveland won and they're still a mess. Baker was questioned about the report of Beckham likely needing sports hernia surgery and he backed his teammates and threw the medical staff under the bus. He apologized via tweet and talked about he answered emotionally and how he was backing up his teammate. Backing up your teammate is fine, but doing your medical staff dirty like that isn't going to help your damn franchise. And he was emotionally responding in a press conference after a win? Dumb.

the pats need the bye week, that's for sure. they've got 3 winnable games left. go 3-0, finish 13-3, earn the bye, and they've got a good shot to win it all despite their struggles.

if they have to play wild card weekend, I'm not saying they can't make a run but it would be very unlikely IMO.

If the Patriots were willing to conduct their illegal recordings of the Bengals signals from the press box, in front of the press (!) and in front of Bengals employees (!), under the guise of taping a "Do Your Job" vignette, well, that's so diabolical that you have no choice but to respect it.

why do you need 8 minutes of filming the field for a show?

Rep doesn't help whatsoever but you would shoot as much as you can and whittle down for the proper edit. Doing so specifically for that game, as opposed to all of them, does seem somewhat contradictory to my point though.

Ok let's look at the facts here

    - Pats struggling offensively
    - Caught "spying" on the Bengals

    Yep all adds up

It certainly takes people off the scent of the fact they've lost three out of their last five games haha.

I am 100% ok with the Patriots filming the Bengals. As long as it is only the Bengals.

Also who do you guys think coaches DAL next year? Dan Patrick was hinting at Urban Meyer this am. I was thinking Mike McCarthy would be a smart hire for them but I can't see Jerry doin it

I imagine it'll be someone out of the mix of Meyer, Riley, McDaniels, Rivera, or Witten. I'd be fairly surprised if it wasn't one of those five guys.

I can't see Meyer taking a job where he isn't the only voice in the room with his players.

It would be interesting as hell though.

He wouldn't take a job where he doesn't have complete control. Jerry Jones will only hire yes men anyways.

I could see Jerry making a gamble on hiring Mike McCarthy, but I cannot see it lasting more than 2 years.

I can't imagine trusting that the Texans are going to show consistency from week to week. It feels like they've got too many variables across the board that can alter the efficiency of their roster on a weekly basis. They could be nasty, but they could easily just lay an egg.

    Yeah the division is yours.

That was a fun game though huh? Turnovers in the endzone by both teams. A come back and a close 4th. Honestly cant wait for the next one.

I know I'm supposed to hate all the division rivals but I just cant hate on Watson. I love watching that kid do what he does. Fuck me that arm.

This Steelers/Bill's game is oddly enthralling. Both D's turning up. I think both get to the playoffs with that Titans loss, depending on whether the Ravens choose to rest players against the Steelers week 17 like they probably should. They might be able to lose out anyway given the Titans fixtures.

Got to love the late games with playoff implications for both, particularly if the Bills win here. Pats/Bills, 49ers/Seahawks, Pack/Vikings and Cowboys/Eagles, and at a long shot (Titans beat Saints, Buccs beat Texans) all possibly de facto games for their respective divisions. Couldn't script a better finale, despite the losers of the first 3 likely securing a wild card slot.

You're right, I believe if the Bills win tonight then next Saturday's game between the Bills and Pats will be for the AFC East lead. Because if the Bills win this game and beat the Pats then their records will both be 11-4, the first tiebreaker of division record will be tied, but the Bills will be ahead based on AFC record. I think. So that would be fun - a potential division title game in week 16.
