Call me an optimist. Brady uses the TB12 method and never ages. I'm not YET saying he will remain undefeated four more years, until he retires with ten rings, but that would be a lot of fun, wouldn't it? Roger that!

The Patriots just put their starting left tackle Isaiah Wynn on IR (turf toe). That's a major loss, but hopefully he's back after 8 games or whatever the minimum is.

How did the Browns give up 40+ to this Titans team?

Penalties left them defending in the endzone for most of the game. When a defence isn't beating itself, that Titans offence is struggling. Mariota nowhere near good enough to make up for a bad O line.

    180 fucking yards of penalties.

Nashville radio is going to be full of calls tomorow calling for Mariota's head. Because that's what we always do here. Blame Marcus for everything. But Marcus did all he fucking could. He had 300 yards passing and no turnovers. The defense, while totally caught off guard in the 1st, played well the rest of the way.

Mariota was sacked 9 fucking times and Henry was totally shut down. Our O-line played like dogshit. We spent all offseason talking about how we had to improve the line and that's all we did. Fucking talk.

Talk and talk. But basically did diddly shit to actually improve things. And here it is. Your run first offense can't run and Marcus is getting hammered like a goddamn railroad spike. AGAIN.

But bring it on Nashville sports radio. Let's hear about how Tannehill would have us at 3-0 right now.

And I'm tired of people acting like Vrabel is a great coach just because he looks and sounds like one. His coaching is still suspect in my book. If he wants to prove me wrong then he has what looks to be a long looooong season in front of him to do it.

Step one. Coach these boys up about what a holding call is this season and teach them to play around the new league attitude towards officiating it.

I am happy he is gone, but disappointed in the Pats' signing of him and the cap implications, which may ultimately be minimal but could effect their flexibility this year. Per Spotrac:

"For now Antonio Brown leaves behind dead cap hits of $5.5M in 2019 & $4.5M in 2020 with the #Patriots, though it’s likely all but the $153,920 he earned in two weeks will be credited back next year.

AB now accounts for a combined $26.6M of 2019 dead cap w/ the #Steelers & Pats."

Watch out for whiplash with some Patriots fans with the amount of flip flopping over such a short period of time. The Laundry Logic has been amazing to witness.

Are the Raiders on the hook for anything too? Is it possible that three different teams have Antonio Brown dead money on their cap this season?

I doubt anyone will sign him. I think he's done for this year at least, possibly forever. Don't get me wrong, a team will for sure sign him next year if he can stay out of trouble and relatively get his shit together but that seems like a dubious proposition. The meltdown may continue.

Out with the trash. Back to appreciating those who deserve it.

This won't give the Pats one extra loss on the season.

It maybe makes one game closer than it would have been.

I'm genuinely kinda taken aback at the Pats sort of being so dim to what Brown was going to ultimately turn out to be.

And fuck all the other reclamation projects they've taken of before, this was a whole other kettle of ridiculous.

It just felt like a move that couldn't have been orchestrated by Belichick, but if not him then who else?

I never wanted him here but it was a classic Belichick move. While it ended up being a mistake, I can understand the decision IF they truly didn’t know about the sexual assault stuff (and Schefter says they didn’t know). they could have handled all of his football related craziness... the locker room disturbances, the frozen feet, the helmet grievance... Belichick, Brady and the environment here would have fixed all of that stuff (at least for 1 year). He would have fallen in line and balled the fuck out on a dirt cheap deal for someone of his skill. But the sexual assault stuff is what led to this quick demise. Bill didn’t know the extent of his awfulness. The rape accusation led to the SI article led to the dumb ass texts. And yes that last part (the texts) were a self inflicted final wound and it’s so frustrating what a dumb asshole he is.

If Belichick knew about the civil suit then it was a downright dumb decision. Otherwise, it made sense as a huge upside, small risk signing (small being the 9 or 10 mil cap hit spread over 2 years) and is in line with what he’s done before to get All Pro talent in the discount bin.

I have my antennas up when it comes to plausible deniability for the Patriots with AB. These teams have private investigators on incoming rookies and there's all kind of different back channels to gather intel on players so I find it incredibly hard to believe a team like the Patriots, who focus on all of the details and the small things, wouldn't do due diligence on him before signing him...but citing that they didn't know this was coming does allow them a further out in regards to not having to pay him.

    - I wasn't sold on Lamar Jackson making effective, accurate throws consistently from the pocket before he was drafted, all last season, or after the first two weeks ... I'm still not.

    - Bummer this slump Mahomes is having.

    - I really, really hope a qb controversy starts up in Carolina.

    - So very nice to see Deshaun Watson get a bit of pass protection.

packers doing 4 straight failed passing plays at the 1 yard line was hilarious.

as frustrating as they've often been to watch every eagles game this season has been close and entertaining.

That's a nightmare for the Packers in terms of feeding into the narrative that won't go away with the new coach and Rodgers. The defense was trash but people will look at the 3-0 momentum all the way gone due to a 1st and Goal situation on the 1 and not scoring a single point by passing four times and then the last possession.

That last possession was reminiscent of Super Bowl XLIX, such an awful play call especially with 2 timeouts.

I had the opposite feeling, like we could see a rematch of these teams in January.

Adams getting turf toe isn't good though. That could sideline him going forward. He was roasting the Eagles before he went out.

Bro, I'm the last person to ask about fantasy stuff. I have almost zero idea how any of that works, just not any interest at all.

But just between the two of them performance wise, I could see Hyde getting involved a little more in the offense with Duke Johnson being non-existent and we have more than a couple receiving mouths to feed at the moment. And I'd venture to guess that O'Brien wants to continue trying to establish some kind of run game.

I say all of that and Fuller will go out and explode for 180 and 3 tds out of nowhere.

Basically I'm of no real help here and it's mostly a toss up. Sorry, bud.

The Patriots defense played spectacularly. They've had weak opponents, granted, but they've been playing out of their minds.

Brady was smothered by the Bills D. Ben Watson should provide some reinforcements next week. The offense is a struggle right now. AB would have made this game so much easier.

Develin appears to hold more value to their offense than the perceived impact AB would have had, in my opinion. That O-line is shaky and not at full health, tight ends are still non-existent, so the fullback would have helped establish more balance with the running game.

Despite all the talk show hosts calling for Mariota's head, look what he does when the offensive line shows up.

Last week, 9 sacks and 7 points.

This week? No sacks and he has 183 yds and 3 tds before the half. And then it was run the ball and eat the clock time.

Seems pretty simple to look at those specific set of examples as the matchups being able to dictate the result. Jacksonville, which was last week, is definitely a much better defense than Atlanta, this week's opponent.

Buffalo, who seems legit and gave New England fits this week, is the opponent next week.

Oh yeah I'm scared to death of Buffalo. But Lewan comes back next week and he should be a difference maker.

Enough of a difference to keep Mariota's uniform clean? We will see.

I was hoping the Lions were going to hand the Chiefs a loss yesterday (I was scoreboard watching until the last few minutes when I turned on the stream in time to see the final drive). Silly me.

Detroit is a legit team. That said, Kansas City is that much better. It took a lot of fumbles and a dull Mahomes game and KC was still able to pull it out. The NFC North is definitely not for the weak at heart.

THey should have won. RB was an idiot, on his back and reached the ball out over his head and fumbled on the goal line. Ball picked up and returned 100 yards for a TD.

They've done this before. They show signs of being good before eventually finishing 7-9 or 8-8 which is what will happen here. Well 7-8-1 or something because of the tie

I thought this was especially bad considering Doyle was already on the ground when he decided to go in headfirst

It's especially bad considering it's the umpteenth time he's done this kind of thing.

If the players like preaching player safety so much..

@Fro - if you could think back forever ago ... what were pats fans take on O'Brien and his playcalling and overall value to what new england was doing at that time? Fans here are just about ready to tar and feather him, if he's lucky. Debate now is also on whether or not Belichick was on the verge of replacing him for McDaniels as he was getting ready to interview and go to Penn St.

I know it's been a while, just curious for a bit of a more local perspective if you can.

I don't think I had many if any discussions with people about Bill O'Brien tbh. 2011 was before I was on twitter or reddit consuming online Pats fan reactions like I do now, and coordinators generally don't garner much discussion here in the shadow of Bill/Tom, so I don't have much of an answer for you.

But that 2010 MVP season was magical. To have your QB win MVP with not a single WR reaching 900 yards, Moss traded mid-season, 31 year old Deion Branch being brought back to become your #2 WR behind Welker, and incorporating a couple very good rookie TEs... I mean they essentially changed their offensive system that year because they recognized Moss was no longer so explosive and because of the emergence of Gronk and Hernandez. To have all that transition happening and to have BenJarvus Green-Ellis as your leading rusher, and go on to lead the league in points scored by a wide margin and win an MVP award... I'm not sure how much credit O'Brien gets for that versus B/B but it was a remarkable season offensively. Probably the most impressive offensive season of this Pats era because it was a lot tougher than chucking up bombs to Moss.

That's sort of the crux of where we're at now with him. How much of our offense working or not working falls at the feet of O'Brien or Deshaun.

Are the good days because of Watson's immense natural ability or OB's play-design and calling?
Are the bad days because of Watson still learning the position and the offense or OB being too much of a stubborn oaf who rode others' coattails and never really accomplished much himself?

Idk, I imagine by the end of the year we'll get a smattering of all these possibilities and finish 9-7 and just run it back the same next year with all the same questions. Sigh.

Thanks for the response though, bud.

These new-look Steelers have a VERY friendly schedule. I wouldn't be surprised to see them win 10 or 11 games this season

Yeah the schedule for the Steelers isn't that friendly. Browns and Ravens twice. Probably going 2-2 there. So they are already at 5 losses. Not counting playing Rams, Bills, Chargers, and Colts. They are staring 8-8 or 9-7 in the face.

Their defense still isn't great and who knows what the heck they're doing on offense. It seemed like a gimmickry offense on Monday. Don't know if that was due to the opponent or just the new norm for them. All that said, I'd be stunned if they got close to nine or 10 wins.

The thing I recall about O'Brien leaving the Pats, was that it wasn't a surprise, Pats Nation was generally thinking "Hey, good for him, he deserves a shot making big $. We've had assistants leave before and we still got Brady/Belichek so it won't matter"

While Watson isn't playing at the top of his game, he's taking a beating. I do think the O'Brien criticism is fair in the sense that if something's not working, try something else. But Waston post-game response - look at what the defense is giving them, cover 4 - and how he missed two opportunities - explained really well that he understands this game far better than reporters and fans. Despite being 2-2, the Texans are still very much for real.

The Steelers have won one game this year, against a winless opponent. They won't have a winning or even a .500 season

Watson is taking a beating. It's just hard to tell which direction the majority of the finger pointing should go.

Is he holding onto the ball so long because the route concepts are trash? Is it because he can't read defenses pre- or post-snap?

Is it because he's always looking for the big chunk play? Is the offense too tied to the big chunk play?

Basically I'd like to see what Deshaun is capable of under different guidance. We've already seen O'Brien with about 50 different qbs.

The gamblers would say that the Ravens are beating the steelers on sunday as they are 3.5 road favorites.

Those are odds lines used to manage betting. Not intended to predict the outcome. People are often confused about this.

Will fucking Fuller! I started him, Hopkins and Hyde today in the cash league and the Texans did me well.

Loconut was almost right about the Steelers, but Rudolph got knocked the fuck out.

I was literally coming in to ask you if you had Fuller this week. Ha.

Goodness fuck Atlanta's d is bad. But I'll definitely take it, we needed to get some kind of rhythm/momentum going headed into KC next week.

Apparently Deshaun and O'Brien have attempted to install some of Watson's college offense from Clemson that they were running when he first started in '17 before getting hurt.

Please o please let that be the key that unlocks some consistency for this team.

I don't even care that the Titans lost. That game was fun as hell.

The remaining Browns schedule is fairly easy so a playoff run is certainly still in play, but their next two games are their hardest (SEA, @NE). That could put them in a 2-5 hole and that's where their locker room makeup could get tested.

But aside from that, his stats this year are horrendous through 5 games. Felt to me like Bosa put the flag through his heart last night. We'll see.

They have at Denver and then home against the bills. Those aren't necessarily easy games either. Seattle is a must win game. Assuming at NE is a loss, they need to beat Seattle at home and then take the Broncos and bills game to have a shot. 5-4 and they are in decent shape in the AFC North. The Ravens aren't setting the world on fire and the Browns already beat them. The wildcard is a mess with the whole AFC south in the race along with the Bills, Raiders, and Chargers.

The Bills are for real. Plus, they get the Dolphins twice, the NY Jest, and the Redskins, which should be 4 more easy wins. Of the remaining games, they have the Ravens, Browns, Cowboys, Eagles, Broncos, and Steelers, and at the Patriots. With their defense, they should win at least 4 of those games, so they should end up with a dozen or more wins which probably will be a wildcard only because the Patriots already beat them. The Patriots O-line will get better, and hopefully healthier. Brady won't get poisoned on his meticulous diet.

Mayfield had a tough night last night, for sure. I think he will get better. No disrespect to Bosa, but this was a case of the Browns beating themselves, more than the Niners did all that much to win.

More important news, Robert Kraft is suing the prosecutors for records in his solicitation case. The judge already ruled that they cannot use the video surveillance evidence. Not sure why the prosecution is even continuing the case.

The Bills are absolutely for real.

I can blame all kinds of shit for the other two Titans losses but that Bills game...the Titans did everything they could. I can't say anyone played particularly bad. The Bills defense just does not fucking budge.

Yeah are good for at least 11-5 now. I see losses to Ravens, Eagles, and Patriots the rest of the way at worst. They could easily beat the Ravens or Eagles too but that's how the NFL works. 11-5 will ensure the 5 seed for them and a trip to a team in the AFC North or South division winner that will probably have a worse record at 10-6.
