Prediction for tonight: 29-3 patriots. Gonna be wet and windy, might hinder the pass game somewhat. Pats will try to run it down their throats. Might be some sloppiness with a slippery field and ball, that’s the only chance the giants have to stay in the game... Get a TD on a fumble recovery or something like that.

Hate that I have to start Edelman tonight but I went heavy on Michel and White in DFS.

idk about DFS dollar values and all that but generally speaking Edelman is a good play tonight, and every week, so long as he's healthy (which he appeared to be last week with his big performance). the pats dont have a lot of other receiving options so brady will rely on him heavily.

If it's wet and windy as predicted I'll go pats 23 - 6

You're looking at three points per $1,000 you spend.

Despite the Pats defense finally giving up its first passing TD of the season in game 6, the Pats' offense has still given up more points than the defense for the season.

Listening to Belichek's postgame press conference, one thing that stood out that reminded me why he's the best coach in the league. When asked about them running the ball so much, despite not having so much success at it, he gave a longer response - almost un-Belicheck like.

Belichick: “Yeah, well, look, not every play’s going to be a 20-yard gain. Sometimes you run runs and you don’t gain anything, but when you look at the play you feel like you’re close. If we could’ve just done this a little better or done that a little better, we would’ve had a solid play. I think as long as you feel like that you’re willing to stick with it. Like I said, every play doesn’t have to go for 10 or 15 yards. You can feel good about the running game sometimes even if you don’t have a lot of production on it. If you feel like you’ve just got to do a couple of things, do one thing maybe a little bit better on that play or you may have ran it and gotten a bad look and the next time if you get the right look or a better look than what you’re anticipating, then it might be better. Each one of those is a little bit different but that’s part of it as well. Look, in the end though, you have to produce, so if you’re not getting production out of it, I mean, you can’t keep doing something forever that’s not working. Again, sometimes it doesn’t work but you’re still encouraged or there’s enough reason to continue to do it. I think that was the case tonight. There was times where we felt like we should’ve gained more than what we did. We talked about it, got it worked out and later on we had some better plays with some of the same plays we ran earlier.”

I've probably watched the NFL for a good half the time it's been around, if not more. My dad was a TV repairman as a side hustle, so we had TVs all over the house, in various states of repair. As a kid, my dad would let us "help" sometimes, and on Saturday or Sunday afternoons he'd have us play with the dials so he wouldn't have to walk around the front of the huge console, and we'd be tuning to wrestling or football, since those programs often showed people's faces - and that was usually the best way to tell if the color was off. So I've seen a lot of football. Quotes like that remind me that these guys know far more about football strategy than I will ever know.

It'd have to be the Chief's divisional round, and his first ever, playoff game last year where he hung 31 on Indy.

Could well though have been the AFC Championship game last year after he gave his team the lead with 2 minutes left and before Dee Ford was ruled offside.

Then he would've been matched up with a team he hung half a hundred on in the regular season.

Yes but he didnt win the AFC Championship game, he didnt win the regular season game against the team he hung a half a hundred on. They were basically laying out how he was 3-6 in prime time games. The biggest win coming against the Ravens is what they had.

The biggest win would still be his first ever playoff game, irrespective of the sun being up or down.

And I was just adding that had his defense done their job the big game stuff wouldn't be as hot topic because he'd have been in the SB after doing what he was supposed to do against a rock solid Pats defense in the afc champ game.

The chiefs offense scored 36 ppg in their four losses last year while giving up 40 per.

I know you know this is a team game.

They also brought up how he did turn it over 5 times in that loss to the Rams. So while you can say "if the D did there job" you could also say he was a major factor.

That's fair about his turnovers in that game. I also didn't say that about that game.

So just to be clear are you making an argument now on behalf of espn bringing it up or still just the messenger?

Not even half way through his second full season, how many "big" games are they expecting him to have won?

They noted losses to NE (x2) LAC, LAR, SEA, and IND

Gave him credit for the win against Balt and the IND win.

He also has 4 losses in his last 7 home games.

I've been away from a TV for the last 2 days and I'm catching up on all of yesterday's games.

-Very happy to see the Texans beat the Chiefs in KC, mainly because it helps the Patriots bid for the #1 seed. I watched the highlights and this seemed like the game of the day.
-Jets over Cowboys, I didn't see that coming. It's good to see Darnold back healthy and playing well.
-49ers are impressing. A Brady vs Garoppolo Super Bowl would be fun.
    -Falcons. Woof.
-Kyle Allen 4-0, Cam Newton 0-2. Interesting.

If you were anything but a Patriots fan I would say you are jinxing your team something fierce. However, between the Pats, Clemson, and Alabama, football is incredibly predictable when it comes to their championships nowadays.

Will Brinson (cbs sports writer) had the following tweet last night:

    Lions 3-1-1
    Packers 4-2
    Vikings 4-2
    Bears 3-2

The NFL refs inability to get basic calls correct are literally the difference between first place and last place for the Lions.
    What a wild swing.

EDIT: that is not to say the packer's could not have come back without the penalties. this has just been a bad year for refs.

Detroit can't blow the early lead they had but they definitely got screwed on those penalties.

There were a ton of bad calls against Detroit. The packers even had 13 men on the field for one of the plays and didn't get called. The hands to the face penalty can't be called there unless you know for a fact his hands were on the facemask. I know the neck is considered a penalty but his hands weren't even there

The inner paranoiac in me would feel that the refs called against us to keep the beloved and more popular Packers in first place. But I can accept the fact that they were probably just incompetent.

This play was never ran as the Packers called time out before the snap was imminent.

    Ramsey to the Rams for two 1sts (2020, 2021) and a 4th (2021)

Not cheap, but with a middling pass defense losing Talib for the year. Man, ok.

Meanwhile the Jags secure more horses for the future in the middle of a meh season at the cost of dude who flat out don't wanna be there. Yup.

Good return for the Jags. It’s a very “all in” move for the Rams to give up multiple 1sts. They were so close last year and it’s hard as hell to get back to the SB let alone win it. We’ll see if this gets them back there- a shutdown corner changes your whole defense so it certainly could. Gotta get those tickets prices up for the new stadium that’s coming.

While their defense certainly wasn't playing up to par compared to last season or the one prior, their issues are clearly centered on their offense. Their O-line is in shambles, Gurley is not exactly the same, and Goff is getting exposed. I'm not sure how much of it is those issues compared to McVay getting exposed right now and the league has caught up to him. Either way, he's gotta find some way to cover some of the cracks in the dam on that side of the ball. The play-action facet to their game isn't there and that seemed to ignite things for them.

That was a very Ramsey trade.

Thank you, I'm here all week.

I think the Jets could upset the Patriots on Monday Night, especially if Josh Gordon is out. Weak WR squad, o-line still banged up, struggling to get the ground game going, Jets coming off a big win. seems like its aligned for a potential road loss for the champs.

I'm still picking the Pats but were I a gambler I would at least take the Jets to cover 10 and consider a flier on the moneyline.

Once this deal wraps up they will have gone 5 straight years with out a 1st round pick.

I won't even pretend to know what the cap situation is for the Niners but they need to see if they can find an AJ Green-type wideout in the trade market. Other than inexperience, that's their biggest hole they're looking at right now.

Was curious so checked out the Rams cap situation for next year.

Goff, Gurley and Donald will account for a combined 65m against the cap. That amount for a team's top three players isn't hateful in and of itself, but when two of those players are a frustratingly underperforming QB and a one-legged RB, it paints a different picture.

Add to that the following players whose contracts are set to expire after this season: LT Whitworth; DT Brockers; CB Talib; EDGE Fowler. On one hand the Rams be relieved of those players' high-paying contracts but on the other hand they'll need to find and pay for players to replace them at an affordable rate with reduced draft capital.

I'd anticipate them looking for good bargain deals similar to what CHI got with Clinton-Dix, etc.

    Kyle Shanahan presser today:

What was the best part of working in Washington?

“Being able to work with my dad & be around some other good coaches.”

    What was the worst part?

    “Everything else.”

The spread is only 3 tonight, a testament to how the Chiefs have come crashing down with their 2 consecutive losses that could easily be 3 if not for a 100 yard fumble recovery TD vs the Lions. I'm with the public on this one though, and would put my money on the Chiefs to cover.

Waiting on the injury report but if Gordon and Dorsett both can't go this week, I could see MNF being a very close game and a potential upset by the Jets. The Pats pass game will struggle if they just have Edelman, Meyers, Gunner. The Pats run game is a struggle and the Jets are allowing the 5th fewest yards per rush. It would be a big James White dump-off/screen game I reckon.

But here's hoping Dorsett can come back after missing a week with a hammy. Gordon I'd be shocked if he plays after that knee injury.

Could be another grind it out win like vs the Bills. Maybe 20-17 Pats.

Jets +10 is a good bet at this point. Once Gordon is ruled out I wouldn't be surprised if that drops a little.

The ridiculousness of the notion that Mike Tomlin might even remotely consider leaving Pittsburgh for Washington can be summed up by Kyle Shannahan's memories of being a Redskin..

Isn't that a situation where it's not really in Tomlin's control? If Washington offers enough compensation, he's not in a role where he can deny the trade.

I don't, but the way the original comment was worded, it felt like the point was misinformed in some way because he can't veto it. That said, if it's a foolish offer (in a favorable way), you'd have to consider it. They're already bent over the barrel because they traded a first when it appears they're not going to be a playoff team.

Lol. All I was saying was he's not in a position to dictate whether he goes or not because he doesn't make the final call. I already said it wasn't likely they would trade him. The original point made it seem like it's his decision. It's not but again, it's not likely they would trade him.

I posted the vid mostly to lol at Shanahan's comment, but was just using the absurdity of Tomlin becoming a redskin top frame it.

Tomlin has major say in the matter. I highly doubt the Redskins would give up major draft assets for a head coach who doesn't want to be there and isn't on board with the philosophies and practices of the franchise. I think in a trade like this, which would involve at least a 1st round pick by my estimation, the Redskins would have to get him on board first. I don't think head coach trades, as rare as they are, happen without the coach's approval or else you are setting yourself up for immediate disaster.

I agree the Steelers wouldn't and shouldn't trade Tomlin but it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

And teams don't trade for coaches the same way they do players. They essentially agree to a release and a new contract agreement in exchange for compensation.

Zero chance Tomlin gets on board here.

Even if he hasn't damaged any soft tissue, it's like a month out at least. Season if it's bad enough to require surgery.

Madden curse is bullshit. Been proven wrong too many times.

I hope Mahomes is okay, you’d hate to see the Patriots walk through an easy AFC playoff field this year. Texans are legit but the Pats usually have their number, same with the Colts. I bet it’s not severe and he’ll be back in 4-6 weeks.

It almost surely removes him from the MVP race and it could likely take the Chiefs out of the race for a bye week.

The way he was walking around after the game, I'd bet there's no serious ligament damage and he's back in 3-4 weeks. With how bad that division and conference is, I bet they still win the AFC-W and honestly wouldn't be surprised if they still challenge for the #2 seed lol

Radio sports talk in Houston posed a question that I think could be interesting here..

So, in light of the recent player movement we've seen throughout the league, and in particular a couple of moves that sent Laremy Tunsil and Jalen Ramsey to new homes in exchange for 2 1st rounds picks and maybe then some ... the question asked was who on the Texans would you not part ways with if another GM came calling and offered you 2 number 1s?

And so the question here is ... what players for your team (if anyone) would you not trade for 2 1st round picks? To keep it simple we're not getting into who's trading the picks and so what part of the round are they likely to be in, just generally speaking for fun - 2 1's for your best players, who would you say no thanks about?

    - Right off the top I'm not trading Deshaun Watson for 10 first round picks. Nope, no thanks. I believe he's special and I could draft for a decade and never land special. I'm good.

    - Next, Laremy Tunsil. No, I don't think he's necessarily value-wise that good, at least not yet. But we gave two firsts for him already and it would be kinda ridiculous. Plus with a franchise qb already in the fold I don't have any desire to go out of my way to put him in harms way any more.

    - Hardest one for me is DHop. He's incredible, but two 1's is a lot. Ultimately I say no thanks though. he fits hand in glove with his qb and he's so complete a wideout without being a diva I just don't know if I'll get a total return on that trade in the end. Maybe 3 1's, but not 2.

Aaanndd, that's it. Everyone else is fair game.

It matters a lot who is trading the picks.

    New England trading picks? No.

Miami or Cincinnati trading picks? I'm in on anyone not named Watson.

It's supposed to just be a fun hypothetical about you value like that on your squad.

It's not trying to put your GM resume together on a message board.

Overthink it if you don't want to have fun.

    ...for TWO 1s?

Shit. I'm not sure about anybody.

This game would be more fun to fans of non shitty teams.

But if I had to pick I guess Delanie Walker is as close to a hard no as there is for me.

I'd like to say Derrick Henry but no running back who isn't extraordinary is worth 2 1s. And Henry can't block very well at all.

Possibly AJ Brown, our rookie reciever. He's shown flashes of being really special but it's hard to tell with a shit offensive line that can't give him time to get open.

For Percussions question. Not trading Rodgers for anything, ever. Possibly Adams. Everyone else is gone for 2 1s

That Titans finish, Jesus. Maddening decision to go for it on 4th, secondary crumbling to get it inside the fifth, then that goal line stand with 2 overturned touchdowns and the fumble inside the 1 yard line. Crazy. Tannehill had a good game, but those Broncos and Bills defeats have iced the season on paper, that Texans-Saints-Texans final 3 probably needed 4 losses at most going into that, never mind already. Oh well.

Agreed. They're going to need a ton of good luck to have a shot at going 7-2 the rest of the way and there just isn't enough talent there.

That was a win but it was a back in, kitchen sink kind of win.

Who would you not trade from the bears for 2 first rounders?

    Mack and Eddie Jackson.

Borderline on Allen Robinson. He is a stud and would be putting up 100 yards a game with 3 td if he had a competent QB

The only thing from the Dolphins I wouldn't trade for 2 1st round picks is the Dolphins' 1st round pick (unless it happens to be the Bengals and they end up below us).

Actually could be a situation where it wouldn't hurt for Miami to trade down a little bit for even more.

With the number of quality qb prospects coming out in 2020 there's just as likely chance of getting one who is SB worthy beyond the first pick.

That’s a fair point. Especially with Tua once again needing surgery (although I still think he’s the best of the bunch)

I want to believe in Minnesota but trusting Cousins is just a bridge too far.

He is, no doubt, but if they have a sudden turnover or a special teams play that works against them and they're suddenly down 10-14 points, I don't like having to lean more on Cousins.

Yea legitimately if you offered 10 first round picks it wouldn't be worth Belichick, despite his advanced age. If I knew for a fact he only had 2 years after this one left coaching then it at least becomes a discussion (not for 2 picks but for 10 picks), but I believe he will coach another 5 years or more. He's 67 now and the record for oldest NFL head coach is 72 (George Halas and Marv Levy). My gut tells me that barring a health issue he will break that record or match it. College head coaches have gone much older than that.

Pete Carroll seems like he could break that record first btw. He doesn't seem near the end either.

Forgot to brag on my guy Jeffrey Simmons. The 1st rounder played in his first game yesterday against the Chargers. Only 21 snaps I believe but he put offensive lineman on their assess all day long.

The future is bright for this Titans defense. If we can just learn to score some points. I know they did enough to beat SD but they still looked a little clusterfuckery numerous times yesterday. Going against big time defenses is still going to be a problem.

Texans see what Oakland's secondary allowed Aaron Rodgers to do to them and said they need a piece of that action.

They traded a 3rd rounder for CB Gareon Conley from Oakland.

Really quite liked Conley coming out of OSU. He was overshadowed by teammate Marshon Lattimore, and for good reason. But a damn good athlete who has been a work in progress since arriving in the league with plus length, good top end speed, physicality. Athletic if a bit stiffer than you'd like. Better technique would help there.

Certainly hope he finds his progress here, and soon. Maybe a change of scenery kind of thing. If so the price will be worth it and then some for a swiss cheese secondary.

That's a silly stance. That defense makes good people look bad in moments.

Fortunately as a Jets QB, there shouldn't be many primetime games for him.

Barring a major injury it seems like the Patriots are almost certain to be the #1 seed in the AFC.

I would imagine the Patriots play contain like hell and don't break that when they face the Ravens. Dare Lamar to be accurate and live with the results.
