It’s a good day to win a playoff game, gents.

In the first game I favor the Texans. The return of JJ will give them a spark.

I hope the Texans win. I like dynamic offences. I can appreciate how the Bills grind out results but it's not particularly fun to watch, on the offensive side, besides Allen's scrambling ability. I do think the Bills great secondary forces the Texans to lean on the running game too much and that leads to a close, low scoring game with the Bills taking it by a field goal.

Texans' offense with Will Fuller = legit dynamic.
Texans' offense w/o Will Fuller = pedestrian af.

    No Fuller? That's an ouch.

21 - 20 Texans. Watson has to put together a drive at the end where he basically has to do it all himself just as time expires.

Titans win 23 - 13. Brady's arm falls off and gets stepped on in the 1st quarter. He has to go leftie the rest of the way and only goes 19 for 30 for 180 and a pick. He then signs with San Diego and wins the next 4 Super Bowls.

In reality I think the rain makes this a sloppy/boring game early on. Then in the 2nd half both teams start to figure it out. It comes down to Henry having a big 2nd half like he always does it goes from close to a 10 point lead in the 4th when Henry scores his 2nd td of the game.

The rain should be a drizzle- dont expect it to impact the game much.

    Pats 24. Titans 17

I will say, if New England doesn't win the turnover battle, I really don't like their chances. I'm picking them because I anticipate they are at least plus-1 in that category.

Credit to Buffalo's defense and all ...

but I have zero confidence whatsoever in Bill O'Brien to design a decent grilled cheese sandwich, much less a confident/potent modern era nfl offense.

Flat, uninspired, unimaginative, ill-prepared ... exactly the kind of performance I've come to fear, loathe, and expect from a Bill O'Brien Houston Texans.

JJ with the big, timely, eff the doctors, helping hand to pass the Texans baton to DW4.

At least that's the in-the-moment narrative for me right now.

    Pretty cool win, that.

I'm curious. If they look like dog shit next week and lose, was this win worth it to you? I ask because I know you're not fond of BOB so I imagine this win loosens his leash a little bit.

Seemed to me like the Texans didnt start doing anything on offense until Watson wiped his ass with the "gameplan" and just did it on his own.

It was definitely a combination of that and Buffalo only have a 30-minute game plan.

    No, it wasn't it.

Anything short of an AFC champ. game nailbiter that he completely shows up for makes his leash a midnight hour noose.

This finish was fun, and it was cool for JJ and DW and DHop and several others, but it did nothing for shining a light on solutions to continuous problems with this team.

That would have been huge. Still, I'd have fancied us a touchdown down at the half, never mind leading. Derrick Henry is a predator.

Titans should go for 2 after the pick.

    And they are. Good call.

Should've stuck to my guns on Tennessee but didn't see them winning most facets of the game...yet they did.

I can't believe Ryan Tannehill (giving the ball to Henry) just beat Brady and the Patriots in a playoff game in New England.

Brady is coming back to New England next year. I'd be surprised if he lets it end with a Pick-6.

Favre ended in Green Bay on an INT as well.

I really think New England was protecting the secondary against the play action in the first half so Henry gashed them. They started to stack the box in the second half and it worked, more or less. New England just couldn't move the ball in the second half.

I can see either scenario for Brady: staying or leaving.

Happy birthday Derrick Henry. What an absolute fucking monster. We can go to the house here. Defensive stand was huge in the first half followed by that Henry drive. The drive.

That did not go the way I wanted it to go, but they are who we thought they were. The same team that lost to the dolphins last week at home in a playoff type game.

The pats weren’t good (enough) this year, at least not at the end of the year when it mattered. The offense was shit. The defense was good but they had to be perfect to win games. I don’t think brady was the problem and expect him to be back with the pats next year for another go.

They finished 12-5 but the easy schedule to begin the year makes that deceptive. This was like a 10-6 team to me, with their terrible offense being too big of a hurdle to overcome.

But hey, 12-5 ain’t bad. It was a good season, just not by our standards.

I hope, so hope, that Brady leaves NE and goes to LA. Nothing against the Pats either, I've always actually admired what they've accomplished, but my word the stories to be had with Tom in southern California in a Chargers uniform ... and even playing against Belichick in 2020. It appears a football goldmine.

And I don't put the odds very high or anything, but a dude can hope and things like this have happened time and again in sports, so.

The Raiders will go in for him from a purely business decision. I can't think of a worse fit than Tom Brady in Las Vegas, the thought of him roaming the strip is comical, but his presence for 3 years would be huge in terms of establishing the football market. And, on the field, he'd be a step up from Carr. They've got 2 top 20 draft picks and a decent amount of cap space. Carr's on a big contract but (theoretically of course) if they can trade him to a team that's likely to draft a quarterback and let them learn for a year, Carr would be a better choice for that than most. Then you've got the Chargers (surely moving on from Rivers after the takeover filled season), the Panthers (could move on from Cam and draft maybe Tua at 7 to sit behind Brady), the Titans (I hope not, but the way we run the ball would get him to 45 I think), Tampa Bay (GREAT options at wide receiver for him) and the Colts (the irony of old Tom replacing Jacoby would be funny). Somebody's going to pay him big money based on the economy of TB12 and what they'd bring to a lesser established market, it's whether he's happy doing what he has done and staying at New England for less of a paycheck but the knowledge that Bill will likely put together another winning team next year that will get him to the playoffs. That's obviously the likelihood, but I'd love to see him elsewhere. It would be surreal.

A couple of longshots too - Cowboys if they don't think Dak is worth a long term record smashing deal; 49ers if they can get a couple of first rounders from New England(!) for Jimmy G, given his contract; Likewise the Rams; The Dolphins given the cap space; Bengals if they can get somebody to gamble on moving up for Burrows for a huge amount of picks.

Interesting times to end up with him signing a 1 year deal with the Pats.

If he were leaving, I could see him going to the Chargers, Titans, or Raiders (in that order, likely to least likely).

They definitely rode the easy portion of the schedule and did what anyone hopes: feast on the weak.

The game was there for them in a couple of spots. If it were early in the season, they would have capitalized on Tannehill's fumbles but the luck didn't go their way like it seemed to earlier. Yes, they were a great defense but they had some luck on their side as well to make it even more formidable. Just didn't work that way in those 50/50 scenarios last night.

Brady's receivers let him down in a big way, in my opinion. He wasn't perfect but there were some bad drops along the way.

I can't see him living professionally a chunk of his year in a city other than New England or LA.

Tom and Gisele in Nashville, Charlotte, Tampa, or Indianapolis is a hilarious notion.

I'm less concerned with where he would go than who Bill would choose over him. Brady wants to stay. I think Bill will want him back but at what price is the question. If he wants to offer Brady 20 million, and Brady can get 30 million elsewhere, Brady would probably stay. But what if Bill only wants to offer him 18? What if Bill sees decline in Brady and simply thinks someone else gives the team a better shot? IMO the smart play is to keep Brady and give him more weapons because he is still very good at running the system and not turning it over and they don't have a Jimmy G waiting in the wings anymore. I don't see a lot of better options. Cam Newton.... Nick Foles... Teddy Bridgewater.... hell, maybe Phil Rivers. It would be cool to see what Bill would do with a guy like Cam Newton but I'm in favor of re-signing Brady.

Just caught the audio on the moment when Tom screams at Edleman (who is lined up outside) "Julian! You're in the slot!" and he moves to the slot. Only to run behind Tom after the snap and take the handoff for the touchdown.

    Brilliant shit.

Minnesota D looks great so far. Moving their best pass rushers inside has been huge. Getting push right in Brees' face.

Nashville's great craic but I couldn't imagine living there. I'd be dead within a fortnight. I have a feeling Tom Brady wouldn't fall foul of its debauchery though, the boring cunt.

I hope we keep the Tannehill/Henry train running, it's been great to watch us work the back half of this season and would love to see a full year out of them to see what they can do. I do feel a bit for Mariota, that line improved drastically and it's a shame his confidence broke. Would like to see him have a career here or elsewhere, a good guy and there's a football player in there.

Vikings are crushing the Saints here and need the TD to get breathing room. The Saints were my lock. Cousins the better QB tonight.

I feel for Marcus too. The whole fanbase wantesd it to work, god knows I was one of them. It didn't. I still feel he will fit in somewhere else though. Perhaps really well. But his confidence is shot in this lockerroom. He needs a fresh start. Yeah do what it takes to sign Tannehill (cannot believe I'm saying that shit) and try to sign Henry even though both may be impossible you can still franchise Henry if you have to I guess.

That's a big tackle. Obviously they'd have preferred the fumble return but field position should get Brees the ball with the 2 minute warning and 2 timeouts to get inside field goal range.

Not exactly confidence-inducing, considering the kicker missed in the first half.

That's fair about Nashville. It's kinda replaced Austin as the quirky hipster live music capital.

And Johnny Depp or no Johnny Depp I still can't see Gisele signing off on it.

But I agree about not you not wanting any part of Tom taking over under center for you. I felt the same way about the rumors years ago about Peyton Manning coming here for his final run. Likely could have gotten us a ring, but fuck a bunch of someone else's legend getting all the glory. If we're going to enjoy the moment it'll be because of something grown here.

It sucked. Imagine leaving a timeout in the locker when you were happy to kick it from there anyway. Extra 10 seconds could have been 2 more end zone shots with DREW BREES throwing.

The hurry-up/two-minute offense apparently didn't have their best weapon of the day on the field so they were clearly content playing for overtime. The Brees argument wasn't holding much water today, either. The Vikings schemed to take away his pocket.

Usually we have to wait for Brees to go on the road in the playoffs to be reminded how over rated he is.

    I don't think he's overrated. He's just old now.

His 1 Super Bowl they got a ton of help and everything was played at home. Sean Payton has helped him stat pad. He is pedestrian outside of the dome.

He also had relatively poor defenses for a good portion of his time there, too. No one is saying he's the best, no one is saying he's trash. Longevity and system have helped and he has a skin on the wall.

I have to think San Francisco frustrates Cousins and the potential Cinderella story stops there. Think the story is the same for Tennessee. If there's a time to get Baltimore it's here. You could catch them rusty and might be able to make them second guess themselves early. Can't imagine the Titans try to deviate from their offensive attack from WC weekend. Just have to try to contain Lamar. Good luck.

I imagine Kansas City boat races Houston. The Texans really should have lost to the Bills, so I imagine the Chiefs aren't going to be as inefficient on offense. I think the Packers lucked out with the Saints losing. I think if the Packers can contain Wilson, they'll be able to make short work of the Seahawks. That's easier said than done but it feels like that's what they'll primarily need to be focused on.

    Early picks:
    Niners, Ravens, Chiefs, Packers

The concern I have about Tom Brady potentially leaving or staying is whether or not McDaniels leaves for a Head Coaching spot. I tend to think a lot of Brady's success should be shared with Josh. Once McDaniels leaves, unless the Pats get a TE and a true #1 WR, as well as some needed help on the O-line, Tom may find it unappealing to stay.

Of all the teams that won this weekend, I can't decide whether Seattle or the Titans have the best chance to win on the road next weekend. Tennessee can play solid defense, and control the clock with their running game, so they've got a fighting chance. I don't want to count Russell Wilson out either.

The answer is the Vikings have the best chance.

Stat complier. Struggles on the road. Failed to have a winning season 9 times in his 19 year career. Teddy 2 gloves stepped in and they went 5-0 with out him. VASTLY OVER RATED.

Brees's home/away or dome/outdoor splits are very significant, similar to Aaron Rodger's road splits (Rodgers is shockingly a losing quarterback on the road for his career). While I think Brees's outdoor splits are noteworthy, saying he is vastly overrated seems like a stretch. Some guys like Brees and Rodgers have just been better at home for whatever reason. Peyton and Brady are much more even keeled with their home/road splits by comparison but I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

Brees is properly rated as an elite QB of his era and first ballot hall of famer IMO.

MMH didnt call him elite for his era, he called him the best ever. That is vastly over rated. I am not saying he is a bad QB but miss me with that best ever crap.

Look at all of his interceptions. He is a 2:1 TD to INT ratio.

Mike McCarthy hired by Dallas. Took them a long time to fire Garrett, but less than 24 hours to hire the next guy. A good hire.

But MMH said that after you had already been saying how overrated he is. The guy is 40 and in his last 2 seasons he's put up 59 TDs to 9 INTs and went 21-5. Yea good QBs should put up good numbers when you've got Thomas and Kamara but Brees has continued to be stellar. I still put him around a top 6 QB in the league today. Top 10 all time. First ballot hall of famer. It's always hard to win playoff games.

He is not the only person who has said that he is the greatest ever. That opinion picked up a lot of steam this year as he broke those records.

People talk about not imaging Brady in Nashville or whatever but I could sure as heck picture him in Chicago. I highly doubt that makes sense on a variety of levels but it's a galaxy brain idea that I'd love to see the Bears try to convince Brady to leave New England and that they're the team he should come to.

If it did, I'd be curious to hear who it came from and their clout in terms of assessing historical value with context.
