Despite WWE and its obvious creative problems, calling Smackdown a B show is a bit harsh. It’s easily more digestible than Raw (not that that is tremendously difficult) but they are generally very good and much better than Raw for longer term match storytelling and though the Bloodline dominate, it has a point.

In all of WWE’s problems (bearing in mind I haven’t seen SD tonight yet but the card looks action-packed) it is in the most part a generally well-written show. It definitely doesn’t deserve the same haze that Raw gets.

However in the grand scheme mainstream side of things, it is put across as the “B show” to the casual which is a shame. Raw is and will always be their baby where most of the major stuff happens which is shite and it still is shite except for RK-Bro right now and Damien Priest. Two things they are getting right. Morrison, great babyface potential which they are pissing out the window right now.

He's saying Rampage is the B show. Smackdown is the A show for WWE. Everyone knows that.

I thought they were on about the Raw/Dynamite thing but yeah of course Rampage will be the B show. But they’re damned good at it and had a helluva start but they can’t expect that every week.

Rampage is like the old school Sunday Night Heat WWF/E had in the Attitude Era. Small but advances storylines and serves its purpose. Of course Punk, Cole, Bryan won’t be on it every week but will get attention from someone.

That Slingshot DDT to the outside apron by Andrade to Pac was pretty nuts.

Pretty good little match these guys are having.

    Ha, exactly.

That was probably the best Andrade match I've ever seen. Guy had some fire tonight.

His last match on Dynamite was good too. I hope he starts destroying jobbers on Dark and moving up the rankings.

I fully expect to see Flair on Wednesday.

Really strong match. Andrade looked great in his debut, whereas PAC looked like money even while losing.

Interested to see if the rest of the show can carry this momentum well.

I'm watching TNT on the Sling app and I just saw I can watch previous Dynamite shows on demand dating back a couple months.

I guess my Saturday is booked.

Glad they’ve dropped the Vicky partnership they had. No offense against her but they had zero in common other than speaking a bit of Spanish. He’s got good vets around him speaking for him.

Also on the Vicky point, she’s not really added anything for Nyla either. I think this is like the JR thing where even if they are well past their sell-by date, they are doing them favours which is nice of them.

I actually have enjoyed hearing JR and Schiavone on the call. Maybe The novelty will wear off but not yet.

Enjoying Mark Henry tonight too. His voice sounds smooth and confident.

There's always going to be an A show and a B show. You can't have two A shows. That isn't a negative, though. Not on its face at least.

I would be interested if we could start from the beginning, but that would probably require a new streaming app.

I'm glad not to have Jericho yelling on commentary, and I like Jericho. I still miss Excalibur.

Andrade continues to upgrade. From Vicky to Chavo and Ric Flair next. Wooooo. Also yeah, his first match was Matt Sydal in July. It was a good match too.

It’s probably good for someone just catching on at first, but his mistakes though endearing at first have happened too often for me. Harsh as this is and as nice as they are to him, he’s like Old Yeller waiting to die and they’ve got plenty on colour who can manage.

I’d like to remember him for who he was and as nice as they are to him, the more he’s on, the more I tune him out and listen to the others.

Schiavone is still great though. I love last week how they had Cole acknowledge his friendship with Britt.

To be fair to the guy, it’s likely a very tricky move to pull off safely all the time. Last week, he possibly realised by instinct (which is good on his part) that it wouldn’t go safely so hence the slight flip. Also Suzuki not a spring chicken and maybe positioning wrong.

It may not be as much a botch as adjusting for safety.

The way he did it last week is basically the Death Rider variation band it used to look good in New Japan. He should probably just stick with the DDT one. It's convincing enough.

When is Moxley actually going to get back in the normal mix? Not poo-pooing him working with the NJPW guys but is a bit weird in a way that all this shit is going on around him and he’s working with NJPW guys (which don’t get me wrong a great working relationship).

I miss his old theme and him being in the normal mix though.

Gonna hold my hands up to not paying attention to his recent matches. Maybe partly because I miss him in the normal mix and glaze over his recent stuff.

Again because I miss him in the normal mix. I even miss his previous theme. I get why they do “Wild Thing” but I want him back in the regular storylines because I miss him there going nuts. He should be tearing the Elite’s heads off by now.

End game most of the time (and forgive me if I’ve missed any where he’s lost) has been Mox going over. Kayfabe-wise, doesn’t seem to be much of a challenge.

Good opening match. Both guys worked their butts off.

How has Pro Wrestling Tees not just put out a white T-Shirt with maybe one speck of a dragon on it or something and called that the official Bryan Danielson tee? My man loves wearing a white tee haha.

That’s not a knock on them, but I just can’t get into that. Selfish on my part but I prefer him to go back to the regular every week AEW guys. Especially now with the acquisitions.

Yeah true and maybe not expressed myself totally well as an aware and did enjoy the tag stuff with Kingston.

Main event title picture him not being in it at this point after being a feature for so long. Maybe just not still not quite used to him taking a small step down (the theme thing is my personal thing, I loved the old one so much and headbang to it) but yeah that’s beside the point.

As great as what he’s doing now (and maybe partially due to my ignorance of NJPW and his history with those guys) but what he’s doing now, there’s nothing recent that’s made me sit up and go “Holy shit, he might actually lose to this guy!” Apart from the dirty Omega title loss (deliberately leaving out the death match fake explosion match as less said about that the better), decent tag stuff with Kingston but nothing about him in singles says he’s beatable at the moment.

No doubt it will happen and I do enjoy overall what is going on. This is just a small petty thing on my part. Love what they’re doing otherwise. Maybe a bit too protected lately but I can also see why as well.

I think it's fair to say Moxley hasn't been a part of any meaningful stories with AEW guys since he came back from break.

That said, I also think it's fine. Moxley is probably loving wrestling the New Japan guys and is mostly there to pop the crowd and send the live crowd home happy while they focus on the new signees and some of the up-and-comers. I think that's fine as long as they find a meaningful program for him by Revolution or Double or Nothing. Not really interested in running Mox/Omega back any time soon and I think I prefer Eddie getting the TNT Title from Miro, so I'm not sure what his next in-house feud should be, though. Would be kind of cool to see him put over Ricky Starks after he inevitably does the job to Punk.

I'm also down for something big like a full program with Tanahashi or one of the top players from New Japan, but I'm not holding out for that unless they're really going to dig into a deeper feud with Suzuki/Archer.

As sort of a closer, I think it's fine using Moxley the way they are from a business/booking standpoint, but I could see how it's disappointing if you're in Badger's position who, if I'm not mistaken, started watching AEW more recently and loves Mox. But if you were there from early on, Mox was all over AEW so much the first year and a half that I'm ok with him taking a backseat and popping the crowd.

the deathmatch was great besides the dud ending.

he was literally beat clean by lance archer a month and a half ago.

I will concede on Lance Archer as that was a shock result/great match which I briefly forgot about.

Deathmatch also great but unfortunately that ending just killed it for me. It was definitely great but the ending just took the right stuffing out of me that I can’t rewatch it knowing the ending.

Still do very much like Mox but hope he gets a longer feud soon in the long run.

One thing we never got (which probably will happen at some point) is Mox vs MJF II so Mox can set the record (or MJF set the record straight) so we get a rubber match.

Bryan, Punk obvious. There’s Christian, Darby (another go-around), Jungle Boy (maybe they fought, can’t remember). Mox vs Jericho
II (technically never got his rematch), Mox vs Cassidy et al etc. Wardlow another one.

While Mox is enjoying his stuff and good partnership with the NJPW guys, just can’t get invested. I like the drama, story side of things and maybe lack of familiarity with NJPW guys is just taking me out of his stuff (currently).

Please don't diss aew badge. It's uncalled for.

Great show! Counted 33 superkicks and 21 suicide dives in less than an hour!

For real though - good match between Andrade and pac. My only complaint is they are more worried about spots than actual outcome of the match or the flow. So you are telling me out of all those high impact moves Andrade nailed Pac with what finally put the nail in the coffin was a shot from an iPad to the middle of his back from Chavo. Andrade did impress though. I'm fine with the spots but get a bit more realistic with them.

Sting and darby was fine for what it was.

Women's trios was fine as well. I reckoned this would have been a spot to get over in ruby without an actual loss but it's looking like she will remain undefeated in any match format until Brit.

"Main event" match was just to build bpj up some more for mjf to get some street cred back for his loss. Seems aew loves to out people over in their hometown. Plus mjf needs to be built back up for punk. I will admit I'm looking forward to their sparring on the mic.

Are they hinting omega is going to turn down Bryan for a match? Wouldn't be the worst idea. Bryan could make a 6 month or more program of running thru the elite if they wanted.

If they want to go a little more long term with Bryan getting a shot at Omega, it would be great for Omega to force the rankings system on him saying he has to earn his spot(could even play it up as "listening to the fans"), and so Bryan just starts wrestling both nights a week against different opponents to warm him up to the roster and have him climb the rankings to face Omega.

But I'm also fine with a "Strike while the iron is hot" approach.

100% I don't want a new guy gunning for the title without first racking up wins. Ruby did it by winning a battle royal so that is fine although she will rack up wins before the big match.

I don't want Kenny giving up another loss before he faces hangman. I wasn't a fan of Christian beating him first but it happened.

Hangman needs to come back and fix the Dark Order and beat Kenny so they elite can be a separate storyline from the world title.

Once Kenny loses the belt then loses to Bryan and starts loosing his other belts Adam Cole takes over the elite and we can have our 3 v 3 Civil War Kenny/Good brothers vs Cole/Young Bucks

I’d have Bryan go through the Elite and earn a title match and at the end, Hangman Page comes back and demands the title shot he deserves. Then you do Bryan/Page, bryan puts Page over and then Page beats Kenny for the title.

i want them to strike when the iron is hot and run the biggest matches they can to aggressively take the fight to WWE in the ratings. that would be my approach right now. i'd book omega/danielson for the NYC show already. find out what your real ceiling is.

AEW has so many new debuts and have done such a good job of building their own stars, there are dozens and dozens of fresh main-event level match ups, they don't need to hold any of them too close to the chest and jealously protect them for PPVs, because there are tons of them.

I'd be booking Danielson, Moxley and Kingston vs. Omega and the Young Bucks for that show, with Danielson pinning Omega. I like the title hierarchy in AEW where title matches are earned. Then you run that at the PPV. Hangman match can wait, would bring him back on the card after Full Gear in his hometown. Then you do a long and proper build to Omega and Hangman at Revolution.

That sounds counterproductive to Bryan working less dates, which I’m sure is something he was interested in as a sales pitch talking point during contract negotiations lol.

Wonder if he'll finally give Danielson a five star match now that he's in AEW. I know it's one guy's opinion, but his love in on modern wrestling does confuse me. In the last 10 years he's rated 91 matches 5 stars or more, with the previous 30 years or so covering 98. Bret Hart has the same as Michael Elgin. Lars Sullivan has more than Bryan Danielson. WWE has 14 in its entire existence and AEW has 8 in 2 and a half years. It's a bit mad the trends he goes on. I literally cannot fathom either enjoying or finding better, say, that NXT ladder match over a Rock/Austin or Danielson/McGuinness.

Everything there is pretty reasonable except Punk/Darby and Omega/Christian. I'd swap the two, personally.

Also maybe overrated on Bucks/Lucha Bros, but it was easily the best match of the night.

The Mexican stand off super kick fest and the ending made the match not a 5 star for me. Mad respect for the spots they did though. Some were crazy.

that sucks. maybe they do the eddie/miro rematch on the taped rampage from there. i think eddie winning the title with some kind of mox involvement, so that miro pivots immediately to a non-title feud with mox would be the best of all worlds. can involve miro somehow during the dynamite tag match to explain why mox corners kingston for their rematch.

The problem is the stock we put in to Meltzer's opinion at the top of the mountain. He's just as biased as any other fan. I think there needs to be a line drawn where we go ok, this isn't Eddie Van Halen ranking the best guitarists of the modern era every month in Guitar World. This is a superfan who just so happens to have a very similar opinion to what is good/bad about wrestling as many others.

So when you see him not giving the WWF 5 stars between HBK/Taker HIAC and Punk v. Cena, but he'll give every other match with The Young Bucks 5 stars....

Does Kurt Angle have any 5 star matches? I don't think so if I remember the last time we all talked about who has/hasn't been given one by the Mr Stone of wrestling news (Blankman reference motherfuckers)

He really wasn't. He would always give Hogan and others backhanded compliments. That's why he was so adamant about proving the announced attendance numbers weren't true.

Props to him. He cultivated a following the same way Star Wars I'm sure has a Dave Meltzer that they all follow or a group of them that the fans trust with their children lol.

Between Punk, Cole, and Danielson joining AEW in the past few weeks, I'm actually excited to watch wrestling again. Haven't cared much about WWE in two years or so but so far AEW has me hooked again.

I make a point to watch Dynamite and Rampage. I am going to try to start watching Dark and Dark Elevation again. I do not always watch Raw and Smackdown. Try to watch NXT but not that they are changing it I may not. I am still a WWE fan but AEW is where it is at right now in my view.

Honestly couldn't tell you. I was not always a fan of NXT. I got into it in more recent years and thought it was better than Raw and Smackdown a lot of the time.

There were definitely times over the last 3 years, where NXT was my favorite wrestling show.

Now for WWE, I have Smackdown, then NXT, then RAW.

I fell out of AEW for about 8 months. I've enjoyed the last month, but that's not really long enough for a definitive ranking.

Loving AEW definitely got me back into wrestling. Went from just reading results of WWE to watching AEW haven't missed a show since it started. Even legally purchased their latest PPV on Fite as its the only way to watch Dynamite and Rampage in Australia. Hopefully Kevin owens and Sami find their way to AEW wouldn't mind a gargano but understand if he stays with WWE.

AEW isn't perfect. Sometimes they run the same finish or same story on the same show.
    Audio issues.
Some of their big gimmick stuff has been botched - Death match ring explosion.
I'm not a fan of Dan Lambert it might be a bit too early in AEW run to call their product shit on air haha.
PAC's travel issues are proving to be an issue as he gets something going then he misses a month because of travel.
Matt Hardy managing 3 tag teams is a bit much I would have limited it to Matt and Private Party
They could stand to trim a bit of their roster these are guys I just don't want to see on Dynamite Hybrid2, The nightmare factory + QT, Big Swole, Emi Sakura, Alex Marvez, Vicki Gurrrero, abadon, Big Show.

Before AEW I was more of a mainstream WWE guy so I didn't know most of the roster but they got me hooked. Love the tag division The Acclaimed and Varsity Blonds are getting primed for a top run. Their last PPV was so good and the big debuts are only going to propel them forward. They just need to fix up a few issues and they are definitely going to stick around for a while. I keep coming to this thread to have a chat about AEW but it seems half the chat always seems to be people fighting not even talking about AEW.

Wow I'm so excited for this show I was about to go to Candyman but not now. Moxley/Kingston v. Ever Rise (hopefully the main event) will be a banger. A lot of talking going on which is cool and holy shit, is that Archer v. Suzuki?? God damn I hate Shawn Spears though. I hate Tully too. Man they suck. Poor Darby and MJF go from top tier legends to this nonsense.

TNT ran an ad the other night showcasing all the African-American heavy shows they have now and when it was AEW they literally showed 2 people: Jade Cargill and the dude from the Bucks lol. Not even a shot of Scorpio Sky. I think they did show Jade pinning Red Velvet. My buddy was like, "Was that dude holding the championship from the Bucks?" I said yep he goes "So they just tried to make it like AEW had diversity showing him but where was Shaq??" No Powerhouse Hobbs or as we old people call him Ice Train 2.0

WWE just crowned it's 2nd black world champion in a row and the only time a black person gets a title or even a push in AEW is when the white man is the focal point. Even Jade Cargill has to have a Steve Corino lookin bum with her just to get tv time.

If Frankie Kazarian wins clean by pinfall or submission tonight I'll watch every Dynamite, Rampage, Elevation, Dark, and PPV moving forward.

If Shawn Spears wins I'll run around my house 2 times.

Frankie Kazarian the Elite hunter or whatever he calls himself is a fucking terrible gimmick. Especially for him. It's literally gone nowhere. If they want to make his gimmick matter, beating Adam Cole in Cole's first match in AEW would be tremendous. That's not even from a "Fuck you Adam Cole" mindset. That's from a "let's make everyone matter in this company" You can't be the guy taking down The Elite if you never. take. them. down. Ever.

I think Frankie is just around to put people over. He had a good run 2 years ago with SCU.

Scorpio just tries too hard and it shows. They tried to push him before when he had the match with Jericho and no one cared. Same with the brass ring match. Both his theme and the men of the year theme are bangers though.

They should give the gimmick of someone "killing the elite" to a talent that isn't just there to job and make others look good. Imagine if Stevie Richards was the Evolution killer lol. I just want to see more done with that gimmick because it is pretty cool, the only downside the cannon fodder for the Elite is Nakajima and Cutler....I'd rather slit my wrists up and down with a spoon than watch those 2 wrestle.

They really need a developmental program for the women, very badly. Every woman on the roster should go train with Dustin Rhodes for a few months. He helped develop a lot of the WWE women in his last few years there.

Dustin might be at a point where he's a better trainer than performer.

Dustin seems like someone who despite having a great career, probably isn't a good coach. Michael Jordan isn't a coach for a reason.

Everything. The match even existing for one. How about that sweet powerslam spot? Or the botched drop down punch? The match was terrible. The fact I even answered you just took away all your tokens for Sept.

Yes that first part makes total sense now thank you for loosely connecting Demon Balor to Adam Cole.
