Main eventing a show with barely a million viewers against jabronis while making millions of dollars is nothing to be ashamed about. I believe I even said he's handling it well. I'd rather watch Danielson wrestling these guys than if it were Wangman.
The only problem with what's going on with Danielson over the last year or 2 is that he thinks all he has to do is go out there, put on 15+ with Drew Gulak or Alan Angels or jobbing to Adam Cole Bay Bay and boom=we have this new respect for these guys and they could be someone because they almost or DID beat the great Daniel Bryanson. I don't think that's the case. Nobody said these guys can't bang, it's just there corny as fuck and shouldn't be in these matches yet.
HBK didn't need to go out every week and have a 10-20 minute match with Headbanger Mosh, Taka Michinoku, and Billy Gunn. Neither should Dragon.

I was thinking the same thing about the Islanders. Wasn't it Becky last week that was talking shit about them to get heat? That being said, Punk usually says "he has the time" and you coudl tell he really could go all night just talking shit if he wanted to. What I find more amusing is that he trolled the audience with MJF's music the same way people were saying MJF would possibly do to Punk before his big debut.
AEW still doesn't quite seem to know how to do battle royales. At least to me. The eliminations always go by too quickly, and the mini-stories they're trying to tell in the ring don't get fleshed out. I guess leads credence to just how great the concept of WWF's Royal Rumble is, in that the 60 minute time limit, and having people come out in intervals, leads to better television.
This whole Dante thing is really...meh to me for some reason. In story, he was iffy on tagging with Lio. They tagged and had success and got great crowd reaction. Then he turns on Lio by signing with Team Taz (which should have legal ramifications). But then turns on them when given the chance.
I would love it if Hook really is this sort of killer assassin and you don't deploy him until revenge is sought. Given that his dad was famous for choking people out, I would love it if he had some sort of neck vice hold that is nigh impossible to escape from. He doesn't have the heavy stockiness of his father, so just giving him his old moves doesn't seem like it would work, and I wouldn't want that for him anyway. Let the next generation legacy wrestlers develop their own movesets.
Riho vs Hayter was a banger. Loved the blue variant outfit, too. Riho was bumping her ass off for Jamie, but also showing she's "tougher than a $2 steak" as JR would say. Watching older Riho matches, and the ones against Britt, there is a formula to her matches. I guarantee, that at some point in their match, Riho is going to go for those double knees, but Britt will lay down, Riho will miss and her forehead will hit the MIDDLE TURNBUCKE OF DOOM. Britt will try to capitalize, but Riho will recover enough to try that arm trap pin she does, but Britt will be able to counter that. I would love it if Britt won without trying to do her convoluted Lockjaw setup, though.
This episode felt like a storyline setup/progression episode and I'm fine with it. Shida and Deeb feels like it could be a street fight at this point, but because they're too good at the wrestling, they don't need to do that.
At first I thought "why is Malakai going after the Blondes?" Then I recalled from that episode of Rhodes to the Top, Lee Johnson is dating Julia Hart, so then it made perfect sense. Anyone connected to Cody is gonna get got. Could even lead to his students, which seemed to have forgiven him somewhat, to drop him like a bad habit. Just look at the track record: Cody is turning into a masochist to get crowds to cheer. Pac is apparently blind now. Arn is falling and stumbling all over the place (I know those were accidents, but may as well play them up as the influence of getting misted, right?), Lee's gotten his girlfriend blinded and will probably get his head kicked off again.
I think it was a great service to John Silver to hold his own against Bryan, as that will lead to more legitimacy when he wrestles other people in the future.
Also, Eddie Kingston is the break out star of AEW this year. He's like an even grumpier grumpy Care Bear. Loves his friends, but hates you.
This was definitely a "surprise bitch!" episode in that it was better than it should have been for a set up episode. But I guess since they have a lot of wrestling on the show, and not a lot of time for filler, it goes by way quicker than most.

I appreciate that Taz plays a heel voice on the booth and the fact he sounds like he's genuinely having a great time out there.

Winter already arrived in TNA back in 2010. Didn’t last long!
I'm excited for the show but we'll be leaving right after it's over to go to STL for my wife to be induced so I'm probably going to have to watch it again sometime after. Not sure how much I'll be able to really pay attention.
I'm not crazy, I didn't plan it that way. It just so happens they said be at the hospital at 10pm, AEW is over at 9pm, and it's like a 40min drive.
I feel like at the very least we get a KOR debut. Still holding out hope for Windham although it feels like a long shot. Everyone talks about how stacked the roster is, and it is, but some of the contracts from 2019 aren't going to get renewed so I think there's more room that way and then you have a roster with a higher tier of wrestlers that are over already and know how to work TV that you can rotate in and out if people get burnt out or need personal time.
I'll post the road to video when it comes out tomorrow or Wednesday but I can't guarantee I will in the future so anyone who likes them should go sub to AEW on youtube. They're good videos and they're getting close to 3 million subscribers.
Or just start looking at squaredcircle on reddit more often. They always land on the front page of that.
I watched some of Rampage and while Hook seems athletic he looks like he’s 14 and the fans chanting hooks gonna kill you seems super premature. It reminded me of Taz debuting in WWE with all of this bad ass hype just to show up looking like an over cooked hot dog in a one piece bathing suit.
Imagine it's 1997 ECW and there's Taz in the ring cutting a promo about Sabu. All the sudden out comes Hook.

Zero skill is probably a bit harsh as though admittedly it was Fuego, the guy did show some skill. I think the chants/praise for Hook is probably a combination of genuine praise/laughter that it has taken them this long to debut him. His physical look is his look and not much can be done about that. It’s not all pisstake but also agree he does have some ways.
Not everyone taking him seriously could be a good hook for him (pun intended).
These interviews are always great. This guy doesn't take anything seriously. I was dying at the one with MJF where he made Brandon lower his chair.

Hook's debut was a good one. I knew next to nothing about him and thought eh this kid's kinda tiny yeah? But he seems to be comfortable in his movement, his look will adapt over time and... he's a clean slate. Witnessing the very beginning of a second generation wrestler is always a yes from me. They kept it short and sweet, no fat to trim or anything. Just gets in there and demolishes Fuego. Can't wait to see how he performs against bigger opponents which is like.. everyone lol, but he's going to grow into this just fine fingers crossed. When I look at him I'm reminded of how Jungle Boy looked when he first started at AEW. On the indie scene here here was just a fit kid, but when standing next to folks on TV he needed to bulk up and he's slowly doing that. Hook's only in his early 20's so over time he's going to naturally bulk up.
I haven't seen anyone calling him the 2nd coming of anything, but I don't follow the same social media routes as everyone else. Was his debut a stinker? Absolutely not. Was is a good debut? Yeah.
