How many original concepts have we seen in AEW? What wrestler can you go "AEW created everything about them"? Next part isn't related to anything you're saying just wanted to be clear.

I think this is more about the brand. WWE transcended pro wrestling 35 years ago no one will ever be the next WWE or even a real competitor. Nobody in the real world cares if Edge shows up tonight or if Jade leaves AEW for WWE. Most people didn't even know Cody Rhodes had been wrestling this whole time.
Yeah, it's pretty much AEW having this precious stone in their possession, but they either didn't know how to crack the outer shell or... they didn't know what they had. AEW's had a reputation for acquiring larger than life figures and just squandering them in record time. Say what you will about Punk, but AEW showed they are unable and incapable of holding onto someone like him. Now Jade's gone and their precious stone will be in someone else's hands, more capable hands? Time will tell. If Jade has it in her to learn and sharpen herself into the super star she can be, then AEW's loss will indeed be WWE's immense gain.

It's going to take time, but this is pro wrestling. It's all about time.

The range of the WWE women’s division blows AEW’s apart really so can see her maybe feeling stagnant. She’ll get better competition and grow but if Jade can’t learn from WWE’s women then it really will be down to her failing but yeah she has upside.

I agree. You have to think about how people come to AEW and then they just feel like another body.

I agree. If you can't elevate your game with the talent in WWE men and women, you only have yourself to blame. With AEW like I said, I feel if they were really wanting her to reach that next level they would've taken her out of the TBS title picture or had her work with bigger names in the company like Britt, Saraya, etc. Not just hanging out in the midcard.

    See above.
there is no guarantee she meets that potential, though. she had daniel bryan training her and had the whole non-wwe wrestling world available to her for additional training and learning and improving. there are reports that wwe are coming up with main roster shit for her, so she could be bypassing nxt. i don't know that she gains that much ground in wwe outside of getting their massive marketing and hype teams involved, which aew couldn't compete with.

Yeah I appreciated that. Kinda surprised Excalibur didn't catch it.

    Eddie long deserved it.

Sucks mox looks to have a concussion. That driver looked brutal. Hopefully aew bans those types of moves in the future.

Also I get why the ref didn't count to three cause that wasn't the plan but it looked weird to see.

Apparently from what’s been reported, he was actually concussed during the pre-match brawl and wrestled the whole match concussed.

It seems he’s going to be okay though.

Yeah because all these years of listening to wrestlers and athletes in general talking about the effects of concussions=he's going to be okay though. The fuck he is lol.

I swear when it comes to AEW everything we've learned that is bad for the sport just goes out the window.

Moxley sounds like he's hard headed so I wouldn't be surprised to see him wrestling again in a couple of weeks.

When Morrison was young he developed an imaginary friend who would come in at night and pee in his mouth. Now he bounces between the 2 personalities in an effort to keep the old days of Rajah alive. I'm actually shocked he didn't tuck his penis like Simon and others and just hide out in the R-Fed threads.

Well obviously not okay okay but from what’s been reported, it’s a minor concussion but he made it out on his own power.

    Just quoting the report.

Anyways rest of the show. Great opener with Eddie/Claudio. Probably favourite of the night.

Jericho/Sammy had a couple of mistakes like that kick in the corner that fell short but otherwise solid. LOVED the Jericho/HBK Mania callback!

    HLA in Toni/Saraya lol.

Pissed myself at Roddy Strong again and even moreso at the MJF/Bret parody “I’m adopted!!” Solid match with classic scumbag shenanigans.

I counted 7 nods to something WWE did last night it was mind blowing. Especially after reading Tony Khan say he works 80 hours a week. I assume that's watching 80 hours of WWE on Peacock looking for the next big idea!

I do hope Mox isn't seriously hurt. I just read the other day that El Hijo Del Viking cat had a botch that put him in a wheelchair the other night. HOpefully he's doing ok.

Yeah you don't wish anyone to get injured at all, regardless of how you feel about them. I think some talent need to tone down their work. You should want to be able to walk 10, 20 years down the road.

The Mox stuff was a little scary, but I'm glad to hear he made it out on his own power. Was it the dive off the stage from Fenix that wuzzled him? After the first piledriver, I think the ref thought Mox would just kick out because that wasn't the finish, but after the second they probably had already called an audible. That second one looked bad too though. Fuck. Regardless of the severity, concussions are always serious.

Hope it's a wakeup call for all parties.

When people in AEW seemed to get knocked the fuck out and concussed on a weekly basis I don't think it's going to be a wake up call for anyone. This is the company that still gleefully employs Jeff Hardy.

Regarding Jade Cargill- It's a loss to me.

Jade was one of their most featured females prior to her release. She was a home-grown talent. The backstage comments were that she was eager to learn. I think I'm higher on Jade's most recent mic work than some here, but I think she's got charisma. She was highly promoted and every time I saw, ripped the company well. Possibly the best look of anyone in the company.

I can see the argument that you might not miss her if she missed a show . But honestly, how many people on AEW isn't that true of?

    5?

I just don't think AEW sees their talent like WWE sees certain talent. I think with some of us we're thinking about Jade being more than a wrestler but a crossover star and how much easier that will be working for WWE than AEW. You don't see AEW hiring people with that mentality.

That's entirely possible. Who knows what goes on in the AEW planning room. For all we know, it changes with what Khan has for breakfast. I feel like they did at least make some efforts on that front with Cody. Another person who had charisma and a good look.....who AEW stans didn't appreciate sufficiently.

I completely get behind the argument that currently that AEW or WWE will rarely be impacted by the loss of one talent in any significant way. So, from that perspective, I get the "not a loss". And agree, Hell, Cody Rhodes is one of the biggest stars in the world right now, a huge success, and it could be argued that him leaving didn't really "hurt" AEW that much.

From another perspective f -over the last year and a half or so- I think she improved the segments she was on, was a strong presence, and one of their biggest female stars. I don't think the women's division is going that well, and I think she made it better, and actually had the potential to improve it more.

That's the thing. AEW, like everyone else, doesn't really look at their product and their talent like the WWE. That's a Vince McMahon thing and he's really the only one to truly master it. WCW couldn't even do it. Promoters just take what is getting over elsewhere and position it accordingly. VKM took that approach to the next level, learning from his father's mistake with the whole Hogan/Thunder Lips debacle. But Vince also has a knack for dictating who can do what so there are limits even in WWE. The women's division in AEW is so poorly booked it's not really a win or lose situation. You're just kind of there until Statlander gets hurt or Britt has to spell.

I'm torn. On one hand I can't blame Jade for going to WWE and grabbing that bag, and there are plenty of matchups there that would be great to see.

But I also feel like there's more she could do in AEW before making the inevitable jump to WWE. Namely, a longer program with Statlander, maybe a babyface run, and then a run with the Women's belt. She could be the dragon at the top of the division hoarding the gold and waiting for the next woman the company wants to elevate up the card.

I'd much rather see Jade with some more experience and seasoning show up in WWE, and another year in AEW would be the way to do it. But, as someone who likes Jade, I'm happy with either option. I think with training at the PC she'll do well.

I love the match don’t get me wrong but yeah be barely tickled Claudio about fifty times. It was like a bad gif.

If you’re going to do a good chop, at least rear back and gie it some welly! Chops are overused as a plot device I feel but at least rear back and earn that WOOOOOO!!!!!

I agree but they should've done all of this a year ago. She should've already been women's champion by now. She should've had programs with Toni Storm, Saraya, Britt Baker, but AEW for whatever reason didn't want to go that route. The other issue is that she wasn't getting any better. Honestly, even if she did get to work with some of the higher placed talent the matches would've been bad because the best worker AEW has in that division is a girl who can barely keep her neck in tact. The rest are pretty bad. She had to go to WWE. Hell even TNA would've been a step up in competition because of the caliber of women who work there compared to AEW.

AEW seems to be about dream matches rather than caring about any storylines. Just put two guys together and have a match. There's no investment.

I would say 99% of the non-WWE wrestling companies focus on just trying to win over Dave Meltzer and the story takes a backseat. That's why most of AEW's storylines are based on what talent did in other companies. Imagine if every time you saw a movie with Christian Bale they would try to incorporate and continue a story from the Nolan Batman trilogy because of how popular they were? That's AEW. TK has said it himself, he takes people who were big elsewhere and puts them on his platform. Very similar to what WCW used to do. Not giving anyone an excuse as it's lazy booking but again it goes back to how WWE does their thing and how everyone else does their thing.

Everyone is out there trying to get clout from the WWE and their fans, their investors, etc. So when CJ Perry and Miro are ANOTHER cuckhold storyline and when Dolph Ziggler shows up to give that Deadpool/Zack Morris 4th wall nod to the WWE their fans will be like oh shit they just gave a nod to that WWE storyline!! They must be so fucking cool.....

But this approach is what makes it easy to follow everyone outside the WWE. You really don't need to be invested in a single AEW storyline because their stories are very basic. If it's not a nod to the trinity-WWE/ECW/WCW then it's simply "I want to be better than you" And that's totally fine. That's what drew me into Japanese wrestling as a kid in the 90's when I had no clue what the fuck was going on-and you didn't have to it was just about rivalries and being the best. You never saw any bullshit with Kenta Kobashia wanting to fuck Takada's wife lol.

Same as that, my man. Used to love getting my Japanese tapes from a tape trader in 1997/98ish.

Shinya Hashimoto, Koji Kanemoto, Jushin Liger, Dr Wagner Jnr - Good times. Wish I still had those tapes, actually.

I havea Japanese death match DVD compilation somewhere. Got it for Christmas one year. I think it was one of those "Oh he likes wrestling let's get him this" type gifts. But man I'm a WWE fan, not a wrestling fan.

10+ years ago they used to have these Japanese death match ppvs with like 5-6 random matches that were pretty awesome. I think I have all 10 volumes.
