I think right now is the perfect time to pull the trigger on Big Show getting a main event push in AEW by winning the interim championship against Tanahashi.

I'll be honest, I was shocked Tanahashi can even walk. The guy moves slower than Kenta Kobashi. I swear I saw the ghost of Baba run past him.

For someone who claims not to care on a small dying forum, you seem to care a lot. Just sayin’

But I hope this Punk situation gets sorted.

Actually now would be an even better time to say fuck it and put the belt on Sting. He's the #1 minute by minute draw right? I'd text Tony but he's doing cocaine off Dana White's bald head.

You say that but you still post on here to get reactions even if it’s you wanking all over your own keyboard whenever someone responds to you about Yuta so you still care. Just sayin’

    Anyway new topic.

So next week on Dynamite they are having a battle royal to determine the number 1 contender to then face Moxley in the main event with the winner then going onto presumably face Tanahashi at Forbidden Door to be crowned interim champion. Then presumably then face Punk when he comes back with the winner being crowned the “Undisputed” champion. Not complicated at all!

Why do they bother with these “interim” titles? Did the same thing with the TNT title. Why not just cut out the middle man/interim title and just make whoever the real champ then Punk gets his match when he comes back.

because that's how a lot of combat sports handle title situations.

Well I suppose if that is their way of seeming more “legit”.

Just think it’d be simpler to just use the real belt since this isn’t an actual combat sport but eh ok.

Also Moxley seemingly jumped from #4 to #1 in the rankings quickly so he’s now ahead of the queue lol. Course it is Mox so not exactly complaining about him being futures but more amused that it just goes to show how laughable this ranking system is when they’re trying to be “legit”

my initial reaction was to dislike the interim title idea because UFC killed their championships by doing it over and over and over again. but if AEW keeps it to like, just this one time, i think i like it. ideally would like to see tanahashi pick it up to build to the punk/tanahashi match as a reunification. but i don't know how plausible that is.

Personally would love to see Omega back in the mix. Also Hangman should probably get a rematch since he was the champion before Punk.

So there's a battle royal, and then the winner of that fights mox.

And the winner of mox vs. Battle royal, then fights someone unnamed for the title at forbidden door?

It's better than the first time they did it with the TNT title.

Now that Tony thinks he's the next Dana White after conquering Vince and winning the Friday Night Wars, he's going to make this a thing but hopefully be smarter about it.

Interim titles have a place in boxing/mma but the UFC did go overboard. Dana just has this weird idea that if you're not McGregor, the main event has to be a title fight. I can't even remember the last main event that wasn't a title fight that didn't involve McGregor.

Last night's main event wasn't a title fight, nor did it involve McGregor.

I prefer it this way since, like Morrison confirmed, it gives the whole thing more of a real fight feel.

    TK explained it on twitter:

.@JonMoxley is the only AEW wrestler with 7+ 2022 singles bouts undefeated on TV (Dynamite/Rampage/Battle of the Belts) + PPV (Revolution/Double or Nothing). (7-0. Moxley + @AnthonyOgogo only undefeated 7-0 records in AEW in 2022, Moxley ranked higher based on opponents quality.)

I do like Jim Cornette's idea of having Danielson win the battle royal, beat Moxley, beat the winner of Goto/Tanahashi=finally becomes World champion. Then you bring him and Punk back title v. title=how it should've been at Mania 30.

I always felt the biggest mistake WWE made leading up to Mania 30 is not building it around Danielson and Punk unifying the 2 titles. Orton/Cena doing it--it wasn't a bad idea that is the modern day Rock/Austin for them but they also unified the WCW/WWF titles with Jericho of all people when they had the actual Rock/Austin.

If he doesn’t win, I’m going to do a 3pups and write a letter to Tony Khan on his behalf even if he throws the letter in the bin dismissing it as a bot. Though the paper will kill trees, our voices must at least be seen on paper if not heard.

I didn’t mind Cole and tbh I like Fish and didn’t mind them teaming up again. I like Fish. Severely underrated IMO and I think he deserves more of a break than he’s gotten (injuries have played a part). KOR though, can work but still a personality vacuum and shouldn’t have gotten as far as he did in the Owen tourney. I hope we do not see strong.

Point is though yeah do not reunite those guys together.

Fuckin Santino almost won it and instead it was Rodney Mack. I'm really hoping that Kyle beats Moxley and goes on to win the interim championship.

AEW introduces the All-Atlantic championship which is basically telling us that they're fucking morons lol. At least WWE can say hey we have the brand split up in 2. Remember when TNA had that World championship and the Global championship...................................... ...............................Yes.

Speaking of Rodney Mack, that five minute challenge thing he did and when Spike Dudley stepped up, I remember being really good.

So Moxley v. Tanahashi.....I dig it. I'm probably getting ahead of myself but Moxley v. CM Punk, kind of a dream feud for me. IDK if the match will be anything special but I feel like there's something special there. Or it could be like Orton-Cena and totally fuckin suck.

Just a gut feel (bear in mind just a gut feel as admittedly do not know much about Tanahashi so rake the coals if you must) but be it Punk or Moxley, I feel either way the AEW rep will win. That is ultimately TK wants his gut to win. No doubt either way whoever it was that faces Tanahashi it’ll be excellent.

Bit of a weird card when you look back a few months.

No Jericho, Danielson, Punk, MJF, or Britt. Jade and Bucks were backstage.

The second loudest pop was likely off camera when Cole came out and did his bit.

    The Ospreay bit was fun

So judging from tonight here is my educated guess for Forbidden Door

Moxley vs Tanahashi for the fake AEW Title since Punk is the real champion
Okada vs Page for the IWGP World Title
Ospreay vs Trent for the IWGP US Title and hell maybe the Rev Pro British Title
Khan on the Cobb vs FTR for Both the IWGP and ROH Tag Titles
Miro vs Pac vs Black vs Ishii for the new Mid Atlantic Heavyweight Title or whatever the hell it is
Some kind of Bullet Club/Undisputed Elite/House of Torture Clusterfuck

All I need is Danielson/ZSJ and I'll be content with this show. Hopefully Danielson can make it to the PPV.

Risky to introduce another new singles title but the belt is gorgeous and hopefully it'll be positioned as the equivalent to the old US or IC titles. The TNT title has felt more like the WCW TV or European title of late.

KOR winning the battle royal lol. Really thought it was going to be Andrade but no. Really getting sick of TK's elevation of the Undisputed chaps.

    OSPREAY.

well duh. the card was going to be set up in a way so that the AEW and IWGP titles would be contested on the show in cross promotion matches, but neither champ would lose. with punk being put on the shelf for the foreseeable future, it's possible they pivot to a flash win for tanahashi, but obviously the big domestic match is mox vs punk to unite the titles.

the TNT title has definitely felt flat since the ladder match with sammy/cody, and it certainly doesn't help that the booking of sammy and tay just made the whole scene awkward. with wardlow staking his claim, it can definitely get back on track.

with that said, i think the all-atlantic title could definitely slot in as a higher 'prestige' secondary title. given the format of the mini-tourney, i could also see it being a showcase title with a gimmick like the SWA championship in stardom where the challengers have to hail from different countries than the champion. that could be fun and get us some cool guest spots on a more regular basis from DDT and new japan.

Sorry if that came across as too obvious. I was trying to weigh in on whenever Tanahashi would actually win the first-time around or not against a healthy Punk or in this case Mox and wasn’t sure if they would. Just speaking as a guy who’s seen Mox vs NJPW guys on AEW, while the match quality has been excellent, the outcome has almost always been the same. Mox wins so harder to get invested despite the quality. I’d love it if they surprised us here at least for a bit and not take the linear route.

those mox matches with new japan guys on AEW tv/ppv were all fluff. none of those guys were on the level of tanahashi. now, tana was picked to be the one to challenge punk specifically because he's a huge name for a title match and can lose clean to the champ and not be bothered. that booking was much more concrete. with this new match being for the interim title, the logic likely will still be mox taking it, since there is almost a zero percent chance hangman is beating okada for the iwgp belt, and AEW isn't going to have two former holders of their world title eat pins on the same night. but by the same token, since future planned booking of the AEW title picture is screwed for the immediate future, a surprise win for tanahashi really wouldn't surprise me. he's absolutely worthy of being the AEW champ and could be a great attraction for a couple months, if he's able to. having the unification match ultimately being the match that we were robbed of seeing at forbidden door is a good sell for all out or full gear, depending on when punk can come back. i just don't know if tana can commit to three to five months of being available for US dates. tana vs danielson at arthur ashe would be special. also the possibility of tana taking the title into the g1 this year and representing AEW. there's a bunch of interesting things possible with tanahashi as interim champ, though i don't think it'll end up happening.

The main event was fine but not having any of the previous champs in the battle royal did make that opener flat. I'm glad they gave Wardlow a chance to explain why he wasn't in there but still, the explanation was flat. He still could accomplish what he said if he won the interim championship lol. At least he put an emphasis on wanting the TNT championship, which helps put some more shine on that championship. We're going to have a Draftkings championship here in due time lol. Lots of championships.

So I am torn on this All Atlantic title. I don't think they need it and would have rather seen a trios title. However if they were to treat the TNT title as a tv title and have it defended at least once a week on either show and elevate the All Atlantic title to nice secondary title right under the world title it may work. However I am sure that is not the plan. lol

Looking forward to going next week to Dynamite. Wondering who from New Japan will show up. I have hopes for like Okada to answer challenge but I figure he will answer the challenge at Dominion after defending the title against White. Either way still hoping to see someone from New Japan show up to keep working towards Forbidden Door.

In a nutshell it's their 2nd World title. It has an American flag on it but no Americans in the tournament. It has a Japanese flag, but they call it All-Atlantic....Is that some flat earther type thing?

The best part is reading comments from people who have no idea what the word INTERCONTINENTAL means.

The bracket would have made it possible for the finals to feature 4 people from counties that have no border with the Atlantic Ocean, which would’ve been neat

This will probably be better when the ROH titles are out of the picture in terms of appearing on AEW programming but who knows when that will be. Tournament after tournament in short proximity isn't helpful either lol. I guess they can say they're qualifying matches.

I like how he came out and there was this faint "Holy shit" and then within a mili second the volume was turned up and HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT was audible lol. AEW isn't as skilled as WWE are with doing that kind of thing, you have to GRADUALLY turn up the house mic.

I don't even get the shock and awe reaction. This isn't WWE. When AEW has worked with every promotion from DDT and GCW to TNA and even WWE when you think about Jericho on Austin's show....What's so HOLY SHIT about Will fuckin Cockspray showing up?

It's a big reason why I just can't take FTR seriously. Maybe if Marko Stunt had the resume of a Rey Mysterio or Juventud I could understand that. And I get that FTR are maybe 5'7" each, but Marko Stunt.....He almost made me wish Tony Khan would come out and give Scooby Doo the Stunner again.

Based on several factors, I'm going to speculate that the All Atlantic belt was created for Pac:

    - He's the only AEW guy in the tourney that doesn't live in America. That makes it difficult to put any of the other titles on him since there's no guarantee he can be on weekly TV. This gives him a chance to defend a title during long absences back in England.

    - Tony Schiavone was promoting the hell out of AEW being popular in England. I know they're pushing country vs country, but it was pretty heavy handed. It all depends how far they go on commentary in the other matches.

    - The way the Lucha Bros. congratulated Pac was as if he'd already won the whole tournament. Yeah, it gives them a victory over House of Black, but it felt way more emotional than that.

I'm totally prepared for anyone else to win it, but my money is still on the Bastard.

Maybe I'm a dumbfuck but I don't see how Japan factors into this. Does the Atlantic touch Japan at all?? Is this going to be like when Toni Storm and Rhea Ripley were the first UK women's champs...despite neither of them being anywhere close to the UK?

I'll say this and it's a motto I live by whether that's wrestling, music, life---QUALITY OVER QUANTITY.

If they're creating this title as a quasi-European title to appeal to PAC that's weird to me. If we go by your guess (not saying you believe it) but wouldn't that make it even less likely he would win? You don't want to put a title on someone who can't make the shows. Unless AEW is starting a 2nd brand lead by PAC to where they can have shows in Europe or wherever in case PAC can't make it.

Is PAC really worth it? He's one of the top paid guys in the company and he really hasn't done jack fucking shit. Crisp as fuck with the high flying and shout out to WWE for finally helping this guy find charisma. I just don't know if the reason you're thinking this was created makes any real sense financially, logistically, unless they're creating a 2nd AEW brand in another part of the world that would allow PAC and others to wrestle for a title while not being in North America.

haha yeah and then Will had a match with Vader and jobbed. Which at the time you had so many fans pissed off....but then it turns out now that Will had Vader's last match ever as Vader passed a few years later.

I love AEW but they are doing too much too soon, they are adding another belt when they have all the RoH and now NJPW titles and their roster is becoming majorly bloated.

Yeah they didn't need an extra title at this point. Not until they sort out ROH.

AEW feels like they're in a little bit of just throwing shit out there mode right now.

Which doesn't mean I don't like a lot of the shows. I actually quite enjoyed the Rampage taping as well.

just feels like they're pulling too many different things out there and not focusing on the right things. You lose CM Punk, announce a battle royal and that leads to something for ....Kyle O Reilly?

And the best person for Thunder Rosa is Marina?

They should really hold back the debuts, which seem like every week. Maybe make it once a quarter or something like that would have a bigger impact.

All I know is AEW is giving flashbacks to WCW. Everything from the erratic nature of their leader (Bischoff), the constant debuts of talent, etc. When AEW folds we will no doubt hear the same negatives. When you have a mark for your leader with an open checkbook they start losing sight of what is important and start trying too hard to be one of the boys. Vince was never a mark, but Russo, Bischoff, Dixie, those are all marks in different ways. Those 3 were marks for the fame. Vince doesn't give a fuck about fame, he gives a fuck about money. Khan doesn't need money so here we are, with the All-Atlantic title and Scorpio Sky as a 42 time TNT champion.

Oh and what the fuck is Marina doing in another title match?

Right lol. One thing I have to prop WWE and Vince about is welcoming back those that speak ill of them. Sometimes people are caught up in the moment, they're trying to cater to a certain audience, etc. Jericho and Matt Hardy are prime examples of guys who have been in and out of the WWE for the last 15 years or so, speak ill of them, and then come back with open arms.

I don't believe anyone is truly 110% blackballed from the company. Some people just have no desire to return and vice versa. But I don't think anyone regardless of what they say, I could see them being brought back in some way. Even that idiot Ryback lol.

I read spoilers so I am actually going to watch Dark Elevation next week to see some of the local indie talent that got booked for the show. Going to assume I will see more of the same next week at the dark taping before Dynamite.

I like how AEW is removing MJF from their roster, opening packages, etc. to get us to think he's gone from the company. Man, the only way you could get me to think he's done with the company is if he showed up on RAW or Smackdown

For a company who's fans act like everything the WWE does sucks balls they sure do use a lot of the same tricks. Including trying to make us think Adam Cole and KOR are cool.

Hopefully, the approach it with the subtlety of Wade Barrett referring to him as "Cool Kyle"

I almost didn't notice the rebrand.

It's been a while since I've heard Ospreay talk and I can't help but think he sounds just like Tony Harrison from the Mighty Boosh (the pink guy in the thumbnail).

I think there's some good buzz for Forbidden Door, rest of the show feels a bit all over though.

Do we really need Cole and Britt walking about with these pink belts. Pretty cool thing for them to put in their collection but no need for them on the show.

All Atlantic belt, no idea what that means and they said it qualifys 130 countries so may as well just be another world secondary belt as that's pretty much all inclusive. Pointless belt that does nothing for anyone. It does look nice though but one of the things I liked about AEW was that the belts meant something for being so few.

Must have panicked with Punks injury as they had all the options in the world with an interim title but have a Battle Royale, let KOR win and we immediately knew he wasn't beating Moxley so was pointless.

Not bothered about Thunder Rosa v Marina though, basically a title defence that'll be used to build Rosa v Storm. Does sort of make their ranking system look a bit pointless though.

The inerim title being on the line in Moxley v Tanahashi sort of kills that match as you can't really see a NJPW wrestler winning. I mean they might go with that swerve but seems unlikely.

At least he put an emphasis on wanting the TNT championship, which helps put some more shine on that championship. We're going to have a Draftkings championship here in due time lol. Lots of championships.
Yeah the Wardlow excuses were poor really. Basically CM Punk is the real champ so this is just a worthless piece of trash paper title. Way to put the whole angle down before it's even began.

Then not have all the big names in the match again makes it look a bit shitty. Then have the winner of the battle royal get beat that very same night makes the whole part completely and utterly needless.

I wouldn't have minded an interim champ if used right, have a heel carry it and then trash punk for being a broken old man whilst they have to carry the company for him and not even get the full credit they deserve (and money). Would have built up a match with a returning Punk brilliantly but there's only MJF could have done it and he's doing whatever they are doing.

the ranking system is AEW's equivalent of the brand split. Yes, it exists on paper. But it will never actually impact decision making.

I'm not at all disappointed he's in it. his 2019 g1 was great. sucks no other AEW guys get to participate. I'm also not thrilled with the expansion of entrants and the 4 block format. there's so many guys in that elicit no enthusiasm from me, and with 4 blocks instead of 2, it'll really take away a few big match-up's worth looking forward to.

Yeah I mean I like Archer and all. I was just hoping Danielson or at the very least some other AEW talent with no history in New Japan might make the trip.

no doubt, but i kinda figured this would end up happening. losing anybody getting tv or story time for over a month in the lead up to one of your four PPV's just didn't seem like something that would work.

The semi-finals for the New Japan bracket of the All Atlantic tournament will be Honma vs Clark Conners and Ishii vs Kanemaru. Obviously Ishii makes it to Forbidden Door. If Pac doesn't win, then he's the next best pick.
