    Spotify Wrapped 2018

In the interest in discovering new music, how did everyone's Spotify Wrapped turn out?

I basically ended up with 20 hours of Idles on account of rinsing that highly addicting album hence why they take 4 out of the 5 top spots on the list and occupy the top artist spot. No surprises who my album of the year would be.

Either way, my top 100 is a mixture of punk-rock, metal and afrobeats. I'm happy to share my top 100 playlist with anyone if they want the link.

    https://spotifywrapped.com/

So, how did yours turn out? Any surprises? Probably worth doing a separate thread for album of the year lists, but feel free to include them here.

It's always wrong. I've listened to Strawberry Beret by Prince every day for about 3 years and it didn't crack my 100.

One song from 2018 made it on to my wrapped playlist and only a few were actually new to me. I need to start listening to new music.

    Here's the top 20...

    1. Tame Impala - The Less I Know the Better
    2. REM - Radio Free Europe
    3. The Proclaimers - Over and Done With
    4. Maxence Cyrin - Where is My Mind
    5. Miguel - Waves (Tame Impala Remix)
    6. Bon Iver - Skinny Love
    7. New Order - Age of Consent
    8. Bad Sounds - Wages (PHRESSSH Mix)
    9. The Stone Roses - She Bangs the Drums
    10. LCD Soundsystem - Someone Great
    11. Young Fathers - Shame
    12. Jamie xx - Gosh
    13. The Jesus and Mary Chain - Happy When it Rains
    14. Waaves - Nine is God
    15. Arctic Monkeys - Four out of Five
    16. Pixies - Here Comes Your Man
    17. Bruce Springsteen - Dancing in the Dark
    18. The Smiths - Ask
    19. Le Tigre - Deceptacon
    20. Oasis - She's Electric

Dunno why I wrote that out but I enjoyed it.

I know what you mean about a song you've rinsed not being there. I'm confident I played One Kiss by Dua Lipa every single day in the summer at least 5 times a day, but it didn't even crack the top 20.

Interesting that you have hardly any from 2018 - is Young Fathers the only 2018 one there? Loved that album.

    My top 20 goes something like this according to the wrapped playlist;

    1. Idles - Colossus
    2. Elder - Sanctuary
    3. Maribou State - Beginners Luck
    4. Geko, NSG - 6:30
    5. Movements - Full Circle
    6. Pkew Pkew Pkew - Blood Clot
    7. Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs - GNT
    8. Ramz - Barking
    9. Mastersystem - Proper Home
    10. Glassjaw - New White Extremity
    11. Car Seat Headrest - My Boy (Twin Fantasy)
    12. Idles - Heel/Heal
    13. Employed to Serve - Void Ambition
    14. Young Fathers - In My View
    15. Lethal Bizzle - Flex (Remix)
    16. Shame - Dust on Trial
    17. Maribou State - Kingdom
    18. Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats - I'll Cut You Down
    19. The Menzingers - Tellin' Lies
    20. Giver - Shock of the Fall

Like it's been pointed out, there's no way the below is accurate.

My top 20 most played songs, according to the wrapped playlist, are:

    1. The Prodigy - Boom Boom Tap
    2. Napoleon XIV -They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!
    3. Trap City - This Is Halloween - Trap Remix
    4. AC/DC - Highway to Hell
    5. WWE, CFO$ - The Next Voyage (Kairi Sane)
    6. MC Hammer - Addams Groove
    7. Michael Jackson - Thriller
    8. Blue Oyster Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper
    9. Ray Parker, Jr. - Ghostbusters
    10. Rammstein - Mein Herz brennt
    11. Rocky Horror Picture Show - The Time Warp
    12. The Prodigy - Need Some1
    13. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll
    14. Schoolyard Heroes - All the Pretty Corpses
    15. Fleetwood Mac - Black Magic Woman
    16. The Cranberries - Zombie
    17. Vic Mizzy - Main Theme: The Addams Family
    18. The Doors - People Are Strange
    19. Rob Zombie - Living Dead Girl
    20. Pantera - Cowboys From Hell

    # 1 is accurate, but I also listened to the rest of the album about 30 times in the past month so all the songs should be up there. I listened to # 2 all of maybe 5 times this year. Makes no sense. I've linked Spotify up to last.fm and the top 20 is vastly different.

Just a thought, does it only count online plays? I tend to download the songs and listen offline.

    Top 20 from last.fm for 2018 is:

    1. The Prodigy - Boom Boom Tap
    2. The Prodigy - Need Some1
    3. Black Label Society - 13 Years of Grief
    4. The Cranberries - Zombie
    5. The Prodigy - Fight Fire with Fire
    6. The Prodigy - No Tourists
    7. The Prodigy - Light Up the Sky
    8. The Prodigy - We Live Forever
    9. The Prodigy - Timebomb Zone
    10. The Prodigy - Champions of London
    11. Blue Oyster Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper
    12. Fleetwood Mac - Black Magic Woman
    13. AC/DC - Highway to Hell
    14. Rob Zombie - Dragula
    15. Benjamin Wallfisch - Epilogue - The Pennywise Dance
    16. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll
    17. Wednesday 13 - I Walked With A Zombie
    18. The Prodigy - Give Me A Signla
    19. MC Hammer - Addams Groove
    20. Schoolyard Heroes - All the Pretty Corpses

Four out of Five is the only one from this year, think Shame is a few years old now. I'll give your playlist a listen, recognise a few of the artists but don't think I know any of the songs.

    Donald, your playlist is awesome.

I don't use Spotify much because I use Amazon Music and don't feel like paying for a premium account when I already get everything through Amazon ad free.

Anyway the top artists from the 874 minutes I used Spotify are:

    The Gaslight Anthem
    Joyce Manor
    The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
    Lucky Boys Confusion
    Green Day

    Top Genre: Punk

I actually discovered Joyce Manor through a Spotify radio station which is what I really like Spotify for. Then I just look up their albums on Amazon.

Introduced my middle son to the Bosstones last weekend, ‘Knock on Wood’ is now in his pre-match rotation

Debut album will have songs that have been previously released. This has certainly been rerecorded for this album. It's not a greatest hits ya massive tube.

You've lost me. According to Wikipedia, Shame was on their second album: White Men Are Black Men Too which was released in 2015.

20 years of hearing that song it's still not played out for me even with their enormous catalogue of tunes. The Bosstones are a top band ever for me and fantastic live.

I think Pkew Pkew Pkew just became my new favorite band after watching a live session thing. The lyrics, three dudes switching off on vocals mid verse (I love that shit when it's done like this so much) AND harmonized guitar leads?

    Total package.

Their first/debut album is just an incredible blend of shouty skater pop punk rock, with lyrics so catchy you feel like you've heard them before. Saw them at a pub in London on their last tour and he plays like he's in an arena. Incredible showman. The new album promises to be pretty good too - worth keeping an eye out for.

Missed off The Dirty Nil on the last list - they had a new album this year. Also bands like Meat Wave, Culture Abuse, Drug Church will be up your street.

yeah, this years list feels off to me.

first song i listened to in 2018 was 'don't wanna lose' by ex hex. oldest song was 'chances are' by johnny mathis.

    top artists:
    bob dylan
    sleater-kinney
    the rolling stones
    prince
    the long blondes

says i listened to 4 hours of dylan to put him at the top, but there were periods of time throughout the entire year where i would listen to the entirety of all hands on the bad one on repeat for almost entire work shifts, as my top songs list will attest to...

    top songs:
doo doo doo doo doo(heartbreaker) - the rolling stones
all hands on the bad one - sleater-kinney
    ironclad - sleater-kinney
    ballad of a lady man - sleater-kinney
    you're no rock n roll fun - sleater-kinney

not a single dylan song in the top five.

i definitely listened to more podcasts on other apps this year instead of music so maybe that's why i feel like these stats don't seem reflective of my year. i liked the playlist they put together last year for me of my 'favorite songs' a lot more.

Scorpion was definitely my #1 album in terms of aggregate playcount of all songs. I probably listed to Ye and Daytona just as many times but Scorpion is 90 minutes of replayability compared to those 20 minute albums.

I love Scorpion and I don't care who knows it. it has only grown on me over time and is the only major release of 2018 I still play regularly (not counting recent releases).

Saw Gang of Youths over the summer and they were great. I wanted to shag the singer by the end, oozing sex.

The What Are You Jamming thread is only filled with Psychopathic records shit, so I figured I'd drop this in here instead.

I've been listening to the new AM Taxi album, Shiver By Me, that came out on Friday a bunch. Their first album, "We Don't Stand A Chance," is one of my favorites ever. It's the guitarist and bassist from Lucky Boys Confusion other project.

Clive, it might be worth checking out for you.

Lucky Boys Confusion, now that's a name I haven't heard in 17 years. I believe they had a song called Bossman, it was one of the songs that got played at the movie theater I worked with. Maybe 20 songs or so that got repeated over and over again. Trey Anastasio, Staind, Nappy Roots, Audiovent, Lucky Boys Confusion, Gerard Levert, and the Avalanches are some of the acts I remember. I think Lucinda Williams too possibly.

I gotta go track some of those songs down.
