Odd Dream Matches That Never Happened

We've all had the thought. What if so and so fought so and so. Played it a thousand times on various platforms for video games or with our friends or with action figures. So I'm going to start this out with some wild shit.

I'm kind of amazed at how much I want this match to have happened.

Not sure if they can be considered odd but Kurt Angle/Bret Hart and Ricky Steamboat/Mr Perfect would have been cool. Owen Hart/Tully Blanchard as well.

In all seriousness, did Bret Hart/Harley Race ever happen?

Bossman/Race? Bret Hart/Big Bossman as a single? Barry Wendham vs. Bret Hart would’ve torn the house down at a certain point.

Mega Powers (representing nWo Hollywood) against Outsiders (representing nWo Wolfpac) in '98 could've been huge. I don't think I've even heard that one discussed before but yeah. That was a license to print money at that stage. First when the nWo split occurred, Hall was already in rehab and unavailable for the angle. Then when he returned and his logical spot would've been to join Nash and company, Bischoff purposely sent Hall to nWo Hollywood in order to negate some of their antics. But they were teasing the Hall baby face turn going back to Souled Out in January. He could've gained some traction well before Uncensored - when he actually got his shot at Sting and the title.

Bret Hart/Harley Race sounds improbable since Bret Hart turned face at WrestleMania IV and (coincidentally in the same match) WMIV was also Harley Race's last WWF event until he returned around Survivor Series '88, then he turned face and lost to Haku at the 1989 Royal Rumble, after that he was gone. I guess it's possible that Hart/Race happened at some random house show between SS'88 and RR'89 but since Bret was still in the Hart Foundation at the time it's fairly unlikely.

Bossman turned face in 1990 so Bret Hart/Bossman wouldn't have happened during Bret Hart's IC or first WWF title runs (Bossman left in early 1993). They could have faced each other in 1989 when they were part of the Twin Towers/Hart Foundation They often did stuff like Bret Hart vs. Jim Brunzell and Brian Blair vs. Jim Neidhart instead of the Killer Bees vs. The Hart Foundation to fill out the card on house shows.

Bret Hart/Barry Windham could have happened in 1985 when Barry was still in the US Express or in 1990 during his brief "Widowmaker" return I guess. Barry was a heel and Bret was mostly working singles at that time. They were supposed to be on opposite teams of the 1990 Survivor Series before Barry left I believe.

But yeah, Barry during his 1986-1988 prime versus Bret Hart (pretty much at any point from 1985-1997) would have been ace.

Actually, I answered my own question. There was a Bret Hart DVD set from a few years ago, where Bret handpicked a set of fairly obscure TV matches and stuff from foreign shows. There was a fantastic Hart Foundation/Twin Towers match from an episode of either Superstars or Wrestling Challenge there.

Besides that, I can't think of any Bossman/Hart singles matches.

I thought the question was about singles matches? Obviously the Hart Foundation tangled with the Twin Towers once or twice.

    So much this one...
I'm sad that the nWo splitting into two factions didn't lead to Hogan & Savage vs. Hall & Nash...

There might be some from early 1990. I know Bret faced Akeem around then. I will look.

I'm trying to think if this ever happened, maybe at a house show. It feels like I saw this. I know I saw Barry Horowitz v. Iron Mike Sharpe and Sharpe won.

I know that the Brooklyn Brawler and Barry Horowitz teamed a lot. I can't off the top of my head remember them facing each other though.

Bob Backlund’s entire 1993 run was a series of oddball dream matches. Backlund/Shawn Michaels worked each other a few times in decent matches and Backlund/Bret Hart was fantastic.

    v,

They have never wrestled each other. Makes sense. They were usually both heels and faces at the same time. It would have been a fun match up to see.

I think Dude Love vs the Godfather would be more appropriate.

See, color scheme and character wise it seems to fit but the key word here is ODD. Hollywood Hogan v. The Sandman is an odd dream match. Dude Love v. The Godfather, they should have been a tag-team imo. Dude Love was for sure smoking joints at Woodstock.

    VS.

Seeing as how, in 1995, they were both in the company at the same time and WCW was starting to wind Vader down. Chances are we'd have seen this match, with Giant going over, eventually, before Vader got canned for getting stomped by a sandals wearing Paul Orndorff backstage.

Hell, I remember one Dungeon of Doom promo where The Giant grabbed Kevin Sullivan and Vader blistered Giant with some punches, that The Giant completely no sold. They had physicality, but never a match.

Bret Hart and Harley Race only competed in the WrestleMania IV battle royal and 1988 Royal Rumble together.

Bret Hart only faced Big Bossman when it was Hart Foundation vs. Twin Towers.

But instead we've gotten Bret Hart vs. The Miz and Bret Hart vs. Fake Razor

I remember when I was younger there was a huge rumor that Yoko was going to show up in 1997 and join the nWo. I think had he joined WCW we would have seen him v. Goldberg. Imagine if he had kept his weight under control finally to a point where he was back to WM 10 weight. The sad thing is, after watching that doc on the Network, WCW might have been even worse for him. Still....Seeing Goldberg try to Jackhammer that man would have been incredible.

And I'm not even a Goldberg mark, but I did mark out for the crazy "feats of strength" like Jackhammer'ing The Giant or Ron Reiss.

Naw that would be if I talked about Mabel being the 3rd man lol. I 100% believe the rumor was simply huge in how it spread but lacked in substance. It was probably more just an educated guess, Yoko was leaving or about to and why wouldn't WCW want that guy? They didn't turn anyone down from the competition.
