It made me happy, because it was always "Ew WWE, yay AEW", but Cody has lead the way for more "WWE yay". Especially now with Vince gone, I only expect more people to leave AEW.
Cody was a WWE guy even in AEW. The hardcore AEW fans knew that and that's why he couldn't sustain the love from them. The only time they really started to cheer for him in the last year he was there were the WWE jabs he'd throw in a promo.

That's very true. I currently love Madcap Moss (probably will be future endeavoured), Lashley (almost 65 at this point, will probably retire soon), and Dana Brooke (has she been seen recently) in WWE. If only I loved Seth Rollins, he seems like a WWE lifer.

With WWE's recent change in leadership, the company has reversed trend and started bringing back wrestlers who were released under the previous regime led by Vince McMahon. Apart from those who are already back over the last few weeks, fightfulselect.com reports that WWE was looking at bringing back Dexter Lumis as well. Not only is his name internally discussed a potential candidate to re-sign, but the report states that officials were hoping to reach out and speak to Lumis sometime last week. He was released back in April as part of WWE's budget cuts and has only worked some random indie dates since then.

I can imagine if they had any kind of contract deal, they weren't that hard to buy out.
Kross was supposed to come do a one off on Dynamite against Wardlow during the Wardlow/MJF feud but he turned it down when they were not going to include Scarlete. I half expected them to go back to Impact but guess they weren't interested. He was just doing indies and some New Japan shows.
Lumis worked with NWA at one ppv and tv taping but yeah just seemed to be doing the indies.
So maybe they just hadn't found anything yet. Who knows.
So Kross was set to be at my friend's next show. He is still scheduled but not doing a match. Just a meet and greet. Read where him and Lumis are finishing up dates by doing meet and greets but not wrestling.
The reality is outside of WWE, AEW, Impact, and MLW to an extent, there really aren't any other promotions in the US that are signing people to exclusive deals. Maybe NWA. I like Donald might be on to something where Triple H reached out to certain talents to make sure they were free. By now Lumis and Kross would've signed exclusive deals right? Especially Kross.
Freddie Prinze Jr. wanted Kross as the star of his promotion. But I'm sure that promotion is years down the line. Maybe Kross will make WWE cash until that comes to fruition and then bounce. I don't know why anyone would take a gamble on a mediocre actor's wrestling promotion though.
Well Kross was doing stuff with CYN as well so maybe he wanted to keep options open. I think he did say he wanted to go back to the WWE at some point.
Freddie Prinze probably wanted a lot of guys as his top star but let's be honest...Unless he can come out and say he was the main factor in certain storylines/talent getting over in WWE, what are his credentials? Being one of many in WWE creative isn't enough. You could say "Oh he was going to do this with RVD and it would've been awesome" but do we know that? Now if he was a main contributor to say The Shield or Daniel Bryan or The Wyatt Family, I would be high on him. But ultimately you're taking a huge fucking risk with a guy who we know nothing about.
Him and Scarlett have been very positive for the most part about what happened with the whole WWE situation. I think in the back of their mind they had a feeling they'd be back sooner than later.

They’re alright in AEW, but I enjoyed the time spent investing in the character work for them over various times during their NXT run.

Have Bray return as Windham Rotunda and be a generic guy that has no hint of his Bray character. Give him the jobber treatment where he's already in the ring and the jobber gets the entrance time instead.
Every promoter loves Adam Cole Bay Bay and I have no clue why. I do think that Adam Cole's mega push in NXT hurt the brand especially going head to head with AEW. NXT became way too indie after Drew and Andrade were champions.
That would actually be a great way to start him out. Make the story that Bray left and forgot who he was. He's just Windham Rotunda now and slowly give him back the attributes that made him Bray. Stopping right at the point he becomes a better version of Dan Spivey.

With that said I love The Fiend and the whole Firefly Funhouse. I also like that Windham can pull off the cult leader and the demonic alter ego, but there are times where it hasn't worked. Like his team with Matt Hardy. Never understood that team.
Well we know who had a hard on for Goldberg and even had Brock job to him in like 30 seconds.
But I’d bring him back as the Fiend without so much supernatural, like Mankind originally who was just crazy and had a high tolerance of pain. No more cinematatic matched and getting burned to a crisp just to regenerate during his entrance like a video game character who just found some special healing token.
It's interesting how the cinematic stuff is basically non-existent now.
Worked for an empty arena as no one is going to be crying about watching a match on a screen. They could expertly mix pre recorded moments with live action I suppose.
The cinematic match with Sting/Darby vs Team Taz wasn’t bad, I don’t remember them doing anything as bad as Bray/Cena or Bray/Strowman.
Bray/Cena was goofy as hell but think the two guys working together was pretty well done.
Hang on now, The Cena vs Bray WM 'match' was great fun.
Not really trying to compare AEW v. WWE. TBH I really liked Cena v. Bray Wyatt and Styles v. Undertaker. The AEW tag match was definitely more Raw Underground than the others.
I'm just shocked we haven't seen anything in awhile considering we were seeing cinematic matches prior to Covid. They almost all centered around Matt Hardy or the Wyatts though so maybe that's why.
The Bray matches were more like dream sequences than anything to do with wrestling. I kinda remember reading at the time that Bray/Braun got such bad reviews that it would be the last cinematic match or maybe my brain had a cinematic match and made that up.
A cinematic match doesn't have to be like a mini-movie with a score and different camera cuts and shit.
Just film two dudes having a fight.
Which NXT had Velveteen Pedo Dream vs. Adam Cole -- Bay-Bay! in that parking lot fight? That was cinematic. But nothing goofy or super bullshit happened. It was just two dudes having a violent fight in a parking lot.
Has any wrestling company put on a "cinematic" style match since the people started coming back? You have to also realize that you probably read something by the same person who reviewed the match and WWE doesn't give a fuck about dirtsheet writers and their opinions. When the main guy gives out the Young Bucks 5 star matches against every Tom Dick and Harry but not a single 5 star to Kurt Angle....
But yeah I don't see anyone else doing cinematic matches. They're stupid for the most part and have been for decades.

I was on Twitter the other day and I read a great take on certain fans that are into reading results, dirt sheet drama, etc. Those fans that spend all that time reading Meltzer and trying to find out who is going to debut, all the inner workings of the business....those same fans will bitch about how predictable wrestling is.
So you seek out the truth, find it, and then can't figure out why it's predictable at times. It's very true. A lot of hardcore wrestling fans want unpredictable elements but will ruin the end of the movie for themselves.

I've been reading results for 25 years not to mention Bischoff giving them away lol. The thing is though, I still go and watch it if time allows me to. It's like trying to read tone via text message. Or like when someone says Oh that album/movie sucked. Well let me go find out for myself. So even if you do read results, go watch the actual match.
Good example for me is I'll read live stream texts on Sherdog about MMA events but then I'll go back and watch that event if I can. You want to see the actual action not read a book. But I sure as shit don't say "Wrestling is too predictable" and then base that on the fact I read spoilers, upcoming debuts, etc.
