I thought it was him missing a piss test, or getting there late or something? Maybe that was somebody else though.

I do because I remember thinking how weird it was that someone would be in trouble for that buy shit when you follow the UFC and people are getting 6 month suspensions for getting the flu and re hydrating with an IV bag.

A google notification informed me. I was mad at first, but then realized it must have been a house show. I'm a week behind on RAW, so I didn't know the results.

Rocky Johnson has passed away at age 75.
    Quote Originally Posted by wwe.com
WWE is saddened to learn that Rocky “Soul Man” Johnson (born Wayde Douglas Bowles), a WWE Hall of Famer, former World Tag Team Champion, and father of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, has passed away at age 75.

Johnson’s sports-entertainment career began in the mid-1960s when he made a memorable impression in the National Wrestling Alliance. However, Johnson found his highest levels of success when he began his WWE tenure in 1983.

The physically imposing and wildly charismatic Johnson had several memorable rivalries with the likes of Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, Don Muraco and Adrian Adonis. He found his greatest success when he teamed up with Tony Atlas as The Soul Patrol. The two men became the first African-American World Tag Team Champions in WWE history when they defeated The Wild Samoans on Dec. 10, 1983.

The “Soul Man” retired from the ring in 1991, but his imprint continued to be felt on WWE for years to come. Post-retirement, Johnson had a hand in training his son, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The Rock would become one of the biggest stars in the history of sports-entertainment and carried on his father’s legacy with pride.

In 2008, Johnson achieved the highest honor in sports-entertainment when he was inducted by The Rock into the WWE Hall of Fame where he will be forever enshrined as one of sports-entertainment’s most influential performers.

WWE extends its condolences to Johnson’s family, friends and fans.

Rocky was a consummate jobber to the stars by the time he came to the WWWF. He always had a solid enough offense, but he made his opponents look especially tough. Guys who looked out of shape, especially standing next to Rocky's cut physique. Don Muraco, Playboy Buddy Rose, Adrian Adonis, an over the hill Greg the Hammer Valentine, then Iron Mike Sharpe, etc. But pairing Rocky with Tony Atlas was a terrific move, Rocky played the face in peril as well as anybody ever, until Tony Atlas could get the hot tag. Being the first black tag-team champs was treated as a big deal in the Northeast, but they were OVER. Atlas rightly gave Rocky a lot of credit for helping teach him how to work a crowd. I recall the mags at the time pointing out how blacks had never been tag champs in the WWF before them, and fans my age were like "who cares what color they are, they're good!", as older fans wanted to show the rest of the country they weren't so close minded. Vince Sr. never would have given them the titles, this was considered progress. At the same time, Vince would go on to demonstrate some truly terribly racist ideas.

Rocky was glad to make a living performing for the fans, and my brother told me he once took his kids to see Rocky and Jimmy Snuka and a few others at an autograph session. He told me Rocky seemed truly humbled that fans would remember him so fondly, while Snuka appeared to be either hung over or completely coked up.

    RIP, Soul Man.

Cause of death was apoarently blood clot that travelled from his leg to his lung. He was ill a few days ago and thought he had the flu but didn’t get himself checked out:

Oh and this is Rock’s Instagram post:

    “I love you.

You broke color barriers, became a ring legend and trail blazed your way thru this world. I was the boy sitting in the seats, watching and adoring you, my hero from afar. The boy you raised to always be proud of our cultures and proud of who and what I am. The boy you raised with the toughest of love.

The intense work. The hard hand. The adoring boy who wanted to know only your best qualities. Who then grew to become a man realizing you had other deep complex sides that needed to be held and understood. Son to father. Man to man. That's when my adoration turned to respect. And my empathy turned to gratitude.

Grateful that you gave me life. Grateful you gave me life's invaluable lessons. Dad, I wish I had one more shot to tell you, I love you, before you crossed over to the other side. But you were ripped away from me so fast without warning. Gone in an instant and no coming back.

I'm in pain. But we both know it's just pain and it' ll pass. Now I'll carry your mana and work ethic with me, as it's time to move on because I have my family to feed and work to accomplish.

Finally, I want you to rest your trailblazing soul, Soulman. Pain free, regret free, satisfied and at ease. You lived a very full, very hard, barrier breaking life and left it all in the ring. I love you dad and I'll always be your proud and grateful son.

    Go rest high."

    Beautiful.

Was Kane actually born in Spain?

    In the rain?

Or is that some kind of wrestling "fact" that's been repeated forever, but its not actually true?

True but the book might uncover more about his early life and political aspirations and his parents’ military background along with all his ridiculous gimmicks which were briefly covered. Still might be worth a read.

He could give the Christmas theme another run.

If he was teamed with Ms. Rose, they would be Mandy Kane.

PWInsider reported Tom Phillips has replaced Vic Joseph as play by play commentator on Raw. Seemed odd Joseph wasn't used at all during the Rumble so this makes sense.

Bummer. Curious what caused the suspension. Glad he's keeping the belt in the meantime. Nice way of taking him off TV on RAW.

Wish they brought back that rule that you must defend your title within 30 days of your last defense. Maybe not actually cause then Lesnar wouldn't be our champ.

Who even knows what this could be about. Guys have been suspended for being a few days late on turning in updated medicals. It'd be somewhat comforting as a fan to know what the suspension actually was for but I get it. I'm not that "need to know" about it. But I think people would understand suspensions that weren't drug related better and not just fall back on the stereotypes that all wrestlers are on steroids in terms of wanting to look all jacked up.

LIke you're saying Psycho, dude might have been using something to heal faster.

I love Joe, but I feel like his chance to be a big time WWE main eventer has passed. He's either injured or injured again and now this. Hope he sticks around, but I'm tired of waiting on WWE to pull the trigger on him when he's not on the list.

I think Joe could have a strong presence in the IC/US title picture with the ability to jump into a World title program with ease. Which has kind of been the way major promotions have booked him in the last 15. But I love Joe as well, and wish that he had a permanent place in the main event with a championship reign. Maybe if we didn't have Lesnar that would have been possible.

If Brock hadn't been in the title picture so long, Joe and Braun probably would have been world champs by now.

I like Brock more than Joe or Braun. Re-watched his Stone Cold podcast this past weekend and think he's just great.

Usually with injuries and suspensions they lose faith in you. I doubt Samoa Joe will ever do anything of significance if he ever does return to our screens.

Seems like the second he hit the main roster, father time caught up to him and the injuries hit him hard. At the very least, he knows he's got a future in commentary for WWE when he calls it quits.

It's a shame but his time as a major player has now passed I think.

I'd be okay with him going back to commentary.

Getting suspended while injured seems like perfect timing. I refuse to lose faith in Joe. Maybe he comes back better than ever? I doubt they're gonna let him go for this. Joe in AEW would turn some heads...

I don't think anyone is suggesting he'll be let go over this, he just may not be featured as much.

He has been extremely injury-prone lately so keeping the faith is hard.

I imagine Joe will stay exactly where he is: a great addition to an ongoing feud or someone who makes for a quick, hot midcard title run. He won't be closed out from the main event, but he'll likely only be there to ultimately serve someone else. I'm fine with that. It's just a shame when you can feel if he weren't in and out so much, he'd already had been a champion by now.

I imagine we will hear more details at some point - the WWE suspensions aren't always really all that fair. I'm thinking of Hornswoggle's suspension, because the little guy couldn't pee on demand. He got suspended under the wellness policy even though he's never taken any drugs. But the rules are the rules, and he accepted his suspension, as I am sure Joe will do. It's a shame, as I like Joe quite a bit.

    Hi everyone!

Forgive me in advance, hope this is the right place to post. I've been away too long....

Looks like while Matt's on his way out, Jeff's on his way back..

This is the right place. Yeah, i read that and was surprised since rumors were that they weren't going to bring him back after his last incident.

Putting an official “meh” on this. Big enough talented roster and Jeff has fucked up who knows how many times. Should cut their losses with him. I know he’s only talking but still...

This only feeds to the current negativity about bringing past stars back and this guy’s had fuck knows how many chances.

Yeah, I'm at the same point. Just put him in a backstage role if you're going to do anything with him now so if he fucks up again at least it doesn't bungle up your creative plans.

Guy’s fucking lucky he’s getting this tbf. He’s hardly a charismatic backstage guy.

As much shit as WWE gets for not giving people chances, he has 59 cat lives.

Well let's pump the brakes because Matt has also tweeted something alluding NXT. I hope he does stay, because the Dark Order over in AEW are dropping subtle hints that Matt is the leader, and how fucking weird are they going to look in hindsight if Matt doesn't sign and it's just plain ol' Chris Daniels?

Jeff Hardy isn't going to do anything backstage I can tell you that. He's had 1 foot in the business since day one. I can't see that guy being in a suit taking orders from Vince and other suits when he barely could handle it as a wrestler. Maybe some spots at the WWE PC. Jeff just doesn't seem like the type who knows where any of his success comes from. And that's not a bad thing, to this day I have no idea how the guy is one of the most popular wrestlers ever. His nickname, the Charismatic Enigma, explains him perfectly. Even where the charisma comes from is a mystery imo, it's that deep haha.

I guess you're giving @Donald a subtle hint that he shouldn't be choosing Jeff Hardy as the MVP of the decade in the Wilfred's debate thread....

Maybe if we're talking the MVP of the decade for OMEGA. Or whatever jail he hangs out at in Cameron?

No idea to what degree he will be utilized, but Ryan Satin reported that Rob Gronkowski is close to signing a deal with WWE.

On wrestling journalists, I liked how the Fox WWE account dragged Brad Shepperd for being full of shit, All I see of him on twitter is people calling him out for talking bollocks or him being a prick.

People who had twitter accounts before everyone else so apparently that means they have credibility.

Wrestling "journalists" are new rappers over the last 6-7 years. They THINK they're really doing the craft but they're just making it worse because they're a fucking parody of the profession.

The only wrestling "journalists" I follow are Dave Meltzer - Because, well duh? The F4W Online guys because I watch their Youtube Channel and somebody always uploads their Retro WCW Nitro reviews and those are great. And John Canton from the front page, not because I like his writing, but because I'm waiting for the arrest report to come out when he tries to "meet" his "friend" Mickie James in person.

PW Insider reported Smackdown in Detroit this Friday is canceled. They will instead air from the PC.

WWE gave a statement to ESPN citing that "WWE has not cancelled Friday Night SmackDown in Detroit, however, based on the current situation, we are putting contingency plans in place in the event that upcoming WWE shows are cancelled by government officials, civil authorities and/or local venues."

Been following wrestling at arm's length during all this madness but saw this summary of WON show on Reddit and although Meltzer makes me roll my eyes much of the time when I hear his take on things there's some good points in here I thought:

More changes to Wrestlemania highlights this Sunday edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio!

    —————

    Link to Episode

Quick update on Dave: He’s doing fine during the shutdown. Just watching a lot of pro-wrestling and working on “Best of the Decade” awards for a future issue. The Bay Area still allows bike riding so he has been doing that...sadly no weights to talk him out of it.
    Wrestlemania

Dave mentions that the only match for this year’s Mania that wasn’t quickly put together was Shayna vs Becky (which was decided a year ago and set up a few months ago). Everything else was only considered weeks ago with the Ziggler/Otis match being one of the “longest” considered for a match by being penciled in a month ago. Dave mentions this is very unlike WWE who usually plans Mania out six months in advanced. (And the pandemic is not the cause of these rushed storylines. In general, he’s implying this is the worst build to a Mania by Vince in a long time.)

Dave says the agreement with ESPN to re-air Wrestlemanias does not mean WWE has a deal with them for future PPVs. He doesn’t rule it out for the future, but he is pretty certain that this year’s Mania is not going to another streaming for more money. Dave does suggest Network subscriptions might drop soon, if not now, cause the current climate means people will cancel to save money.

ESPN+ has been the front runner for a streaming partnership for months now. But the two are very far apart on the contract talks and money. Vince is asking for a higher number money wise than what UFC signed for with the same service. Dave cannot think a deal can be made in this current, unknown climate (especially when millions and millions of dollars is at stake).

    Coronavirus

Dave stresses that someone like Roman Reigns should be heavily quarantined and not be participating in WWE right now. Given his medical history and multiple professionals (like Dr. Patel in a past WOR episode) saying people with cancer are a huge risk for Corona; it seems like Reigns shouldn’t be outside doing anything. Does mention he has no idea what WWE doctors are saying compared to the doctors he talked too.

Co-host Garrett Gonzalez says WWE is being way too tone deaf with their shows. By basically making the shows look/feel the same it comes across as WWE not trying to connect with fans. Meanwhile, AEW acknowledges the human element of the crisis and it feels real when watching it. Dave says the mindset of WWE going “we don’t want to remind people of the crisis” is laughable when you are watching a RAW or Smackdown with no crowd constantly (which reminds you INSTANTLY what’s happening.) And Michael Cole being cheerful about Wrestlemania being two nights now is “bullshit” and both just want the company to be honest with the fans.

Best comparison on how the shows are treating the fans during the crisis: On AEW you have Cody’s promo and also Matt Jackson trying to hold back tears. Meanwhile on Smackdown you have Gronkowski & Mojo acting like two goofs on a beach. One side is treating their fans like human beings while the other are doing shows like it doesn’t matter if humans are watching either way.

“It’s just a real act of stubbornness at this point.” -Dave on Mania still continuing despite now it being a two day, taped event. Says there will be no buzz for this show at this rate. For example: Goldberg’s entire gimmick is fan reaction and now “he has nothing!” for this match. And if Drew is being coronated at this event then it means absolutely nothing given the state of the PPV.

Dave suggests that Blood & Guts being cancelled will be the start of Double or Nothing being cancelled. As that cage match was suppose to kickstart a lot of stories for the next PPV. Dave hopes Vegas can still happen but the outlook is looking worse as the days go on.

Dave disagrees with Braun Strowman’s recent comments on social media and hopes he learns his lesson from this. But he also wants to give him, and others, the benefit of the doubt because how stressful life has been for everyone of late. Suggests WWE needs a “Social Media Manager” to stop talent from continually putting their foot in their mouths on social media all the time. Or at least have a mandate to tell talent to stop doing this.

    Smackdown

Garrett on Gronkowski’s entrance on Smackdown: “You’re one of the greatest football players of all time....have some dignity.” (Does acknowledge this is how he usually acts though in public.) Dave also thinks another reason you should postpone Mania is to not waste a big name like Gronkowski being a host.

Bayley/Sasha was the original plan for Mania but Vince was not going to build for it until a few weeks before the PPV. Creative found ways to keep it somewhat relevant prior with the Bayley/Lacey feud.

On the Miz/Morrison segment: “Felt like a Junior High play...” -Dave (Both use this as another example of how WWE should’ve changed presentation given the circumstances we’re in.)

Dark Side of the Ring: Chris Benoit

Dave explains why he was not offered a role for this episode: One of the producers who had final say is a huge Bruce Pritchard fan and thinks Dave is “a quack”. That’s a true story.

Dave has seen both hours and thought it was a very good, if super depressing show. Thinks a third hour could’ve been done considering what was left out. (The final 28mins of this episode is them talking about this documentary and the Benoit tragedy in general. So if you wanna listen I’d recommend when you aren’t in a bad mood.)

Cornette's on that Chris Benoit, Dark Side Of The Ring episode. He had the two guys in charge of the show on his podcast this week, and Corny - the angriest asshole in wrestling today - was tearing up over just talking about watching it. It sounds pretty incredible.

Although the lack of Kevin Sullivan and Chris Jericho already dedicating like two hours to it on his show and interviewing Nancy Benoit's sister (the first interview she'd ever done) makes the whole thing feel a little incomplete and also a little bit like chewing your food twice over.

Outside of exhuming Benoit's body and having an expert in head trauma and brain injuries look at him postmortem (if there's even enough to look at now - probably not) the whole thing feels like just more morbid speculation. We've heard the story before, seen a lot of the principles interviewed, gotten a lot of interesting perspectives, and had the time to really parse things out.

Dark Side of The Ring just takes that and dresses it up and packages it as a nice looking TV production.

I had no idea what Dave was talking about regarding Braun. A quick look at twitter clued me in. Not sure why Braun felt the need to speak his mind about something that's out of people's control. Now he's blocking everyone taking issue with his comments about Indie Wrestlers needing financial help during the crisis.

The guy showed how much of an idiot he is. I mean I'm still a fan, but I unfollowed him after seeing him run his mouth like that. I'm putting him in the Ryback category of not caring what he has to say about anything.

The replay of WM30 on ESPN drew 839,000 viewers. Highest rated show ESPN had over the weekend. That's in the range of the lowest XFL game on ESPN, but more than what a UFC replay did the same weekend.

At this point, if the domestic abuse thing is true, I hope it is.

I mean, he was a "big" star in MLW. That's the poverty row of "major league wrestling". He's the least likable "what if" in the history of the business right now.

Teddy has been a nightmare from the very beginning of his career. It was 2003 when he went nuts in that cage match in ROH. Surprised he got out of that one alive.

I think he'd already been released by WWE developmental at that point.

Teddy Hart on the Talk Is Jericho podcast was one of the best podcast interviews ever in wrestling. Probably the only time Jericho has spoken less than 20 words in a conversation but just hearing how animated Teddy is and somewhat strarstruck being with Jericho, pretty fucking cool interview honestly.

Especially the part where he's asking Chris to put in a good word for him with Triple H and that he wanted to wrestle Shawn Michaels despite Shawn being retired for 7-8 years at the time lol.

    That sucks to hear.
Sometimes people need incarceration to reform their minds. Hopefully this is the end of the road for Outlaw Teddy Hart.

Orange Country, which houses Orlando (meaning the PC), had a state-at-home order through April 9. That order has now broadened out to the entire state for at least 30 days. WWE is going to have to reroute anything they have planned from Smackdown on April 10 and anything else after.

Should just air clips of superstars talking from their homes, and air classic matches in between.

In fairness, neither is CM Punk not getting an ice cream bar.

I heard through the grapevine that they experimented with one but it never made the market because during testing and quality control the taste was found to be bitter...just like Punk.

They're in a situation where their contracts would have run out during the pandemic anyway, right? Seems more of a PR decision to release them at this point.

They apparently don't have the no-compete clause, like Matt Hardy, so they're free to work wherever immediately.

Won't miss them, in my opinion one of the most boring teams in recent memory.

Agree with Donald. They were solid in the ring but utterly forgettable otherwise.

Hopefully they'll find success in another promotion, like AEW where they care more about the tag division.

The Revival were a good team. The problem is they looked like 2 thrown together jobbers that would have been squashed on Velocity by La Resistance. They did have a little bit of a Brainbusters vibe so maybe they were a little too throwback. Think of that comparison, now imagine someone in 1998 comparing New Age Outlaws to a team from the 70's, it wouldn't have gotten over well if that's the "revival".

The no compete clause only goes into effect if someone accepts it, right? Like if WWE releases someone and offers them a severance package it's contingent on the no compete? But if they offer a severance and someone declines, when their contract is up their contract is up and there's nothing to prevent them from joining any promotion they want?
