Imagine going into training camp next year with Wentz and not Foles.

I think the Saints just looked really fucking rusty early on. But they seem to be shaking it off.

Eagles have to make a drive here and eat up some clock. The defense is sucking wind.

Why did they rush to run a play before the 2 minute warning?

I think they said it's been that way for 6 years or something. no one whos played in the wild card round has advanced to the conference finals in a while

The playoff field this year was great but the games haven't been too exciting on the whole. Not a lot of close finishes yet.

This weekend showed the gulf between the top sides and the rest of the pack, particularly in home games. Conference championship games are rematches from regular season games won by one score with 80+ points each, fitting. I think I'm leaning Pats vs. Rams, both on the road but I was impressed by both team's versatility out of the back field mainly.

    Gotta disagree..

I think this is the order with which I'd prefer to see the SB end up..

    Chiefs/Saints
    Pats/Saints
    Chiefs/Rams
    Pats/Rams

..and honestly these are all at least fairly intriguing stories full of generational matchups.

    MVP (Mahomes) vs MVP (Brees)
    HoF (Belichick/Brady) vs HoF (Payton/Brees)
    Young Lions vs Young Lions
Old Guard Legends vs New Age Threats

    Pretty stoked for Championship Sunday.

I've only really watched our game but aye Dalllas were well beaten despite the score being close. We were outcoached and it's unbelievable how much our defense was getting trashed on the ground. With such a young team in a good cap situation (needed with significant resignings to be made in this and upcoming years) the future is looking pretty decent though and hopefully that was Scott Linehan's last game. Garrett for all his flaws is gonna be around forever ffs.. just needs the right OC now if Richard stays on for the defense.

Great great season though for the team with low expectations heading in and even half way through and brilliantly entertaining.

Very glad the Eagles are eliminated too now though thank goodness!

Brilliant championship games set up for next week now. Will be rooting for Mahomes.

I’d love to see Brady versus Brees, but I’d also enjoy seeing the two younger teams in KC and LA matchup against one another. Any combination of the 4 should be good.

Colts clearly aren't good enough for this group. Hell, I think the Pats are the worst team in this bunch, so that's saying something. I am really hoping for the Chiefs and Saints to win this, because I want Brees to have one more Super Bowl to tie Manning and I finally want Andy Reed to finally win the big one. I'm cool with the Rams too though.

In the last 4 seasons, 13 different teams have made the Conference championship game - the Patriot's 4 times, 12 teams once. That's a crazy stat. Even going back another season another 2 teams get thrown in the mix, along with the Packers as the only other team to get more than 1 in the last 5 years. And yep, the Pats were there too. In a league defined by parity, backed up with stats like that, New England are a freak anomaly. It is unreal how well that team is run, the timing of trades and when to drop players, the cheap free agent pick ups that always seem to work, the strong draft picks late in the game. I always want them to lose, but in a world of salary caps, egos and freak occurrences, they are historically brilliant.

Not to downplay their achievements but being in a division with 3 teams who have been useless for years doesn't hurt either.

I believe they said that if they liked what they saw from the Saints defense they would run the play. After all, the play was there to be made. If they get a first down within the next two plays, they are still able to run the clock down because the Saints only had one timeout.

I really didn't see a problem with getting the play off before the two-minute warning. It's not like the Eagles are timid when it comes to play calling, too. You obviously saw the downside of it, but Alshon had, what, three drops the entire year? It was a good play, leading to second and short and no extra time was going to run off the clock. You could say you caught the Saints off guard and Foles threw a good enough pass. It literally just went off the hands.

yea I mean the decision to run a play was suspect but you can't blame the Alshon drop on that decision, it should have been a catch (not a particularly significant one, likely a gain of 5 yards). it may or may not have come back to haunt them if they scored and left too much time on the clock for Brees to go get a game winning FG, but it wasn't like the interception was a direct result of rushing the play. I don't hate the idea that you get up to the line with the intent of snapping it if you see a favorable look.

it was a good season by the eagles, coming that close to the conference championship game with Foles at the helm proving last year was no flash in the pan. I think the Eagles should go with Wentz next year (duh) and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out with Foles' contract. Likely his option will be declined by the team and he will become a FA. I don't expect him to re-sign as a backup again this year. He will start elsewhere.

Very freakish. Brady has played 17 seasons and been to the conference championship 13 times. Only 4 damn times he hasn't made it that far. It's otherworldly.

Shame that the freak play at the end of the Miami game means the Pats have to play on the road - where they have been an average team, but they were the only unbeaten home team this year. Or as Brady says, people think the Pats suck.

Even though the Pats beat the Chiefs earlier this year, both teams are not the same as they were earlier. The Pats don't have Josh Gordon, but the Chiefs don't have Kareem Hunt.

It's hard to bet against Brady.

As for the Eagles, I think they will pick up Foles contract option for 18 million, but I thought Foles can buy out that option for $2 million. Foles has got to figure he may do better as a free agent in a year where there are more teams needing QBs than there are QBs out there (him, Flacco, and maybe Eli?). I don't think the Eagles will Franchise their backup QB, but it's probably worth it to them to offer him the $18 million, since they are only paying Wentz $8 or $9m.

I don't think the Eagles will use the money to keep Foles. They need that money to sign players to help out the rest of their roster. They need OL, DL, CB, and RB depth for sure. Probably WR as well. They could use that 20 mill on two quality players. Besides, it will be better for Wentz to not have to worry about having Foles on the sideline. It's time to move on to the next chapter of this franchise.

The Eagles are quite close to the cap for next year aren't they? With Wentz due a big contract at the end of his rookie deal, they need to be freeing space for that let alone players in other positions. I think it depends on the severity of the injuries to Carson too - is he always going to be crocked at the end of the regular season, neccessitating a high quality back up should they get to the playoffs? It's a question they'll be asking there.

They are about 15-17 million over the cap. But if they release Foles and Jason Peters retires that will bring them under the cap. Chris Long also mentioned possibly retiring which would save them another 5 mill. Although he played really well in the rotation so his 5 mill will be a bargain to bring back.

There are other guys like Jernigan and McLeod that can have their contracts reworked to free more space in 2019. I would imagine they will have around 25 million in cap space to make a few moves to either resign guys like Graham, Darby, or Hicks or make a couple FA moves. They also have 10 draft picks to work with.

    It really is mind boggling.

    Still never beat the Giants.

I think the Eagles will hope they can sign Foles for 1 year under the $18M option, then maybe trade him and get something for him. But even though he didn't do so well outside of Philly before, Foles should probably still be able to command a 3 year deal at 20-25 per year in the current market. So it would make sense for him to spend $2 million to buy out the club's option.

There's no long term sense to trying to keep two QBs of that level. Philly would only hurt itself by doing so. You pick one and move on.

I'd pick Foles simply because Wentz is just going to keep getting hurt. But either way you've got a starter and then you can spend money on everything else you need.

I really can't see many scenarios where Foles ends up staying with the Eagles. I imagine more scenarios where there's some kind of disconnect in terms of money being offered by the Eagles and Foles wanting to be more than a backup. He's shown enough recently to warrant a starting gig somewhere in the NFL and there are teams that are going to want him. Feels like the Eagles will just have to hope this is a stretch of bad luck in terms of health for Wentz and not a trend of things to come for his future, thus find a suitable backup and use the rest of their resources to bring back the other positional players they want to bring back.

I think the stupidest thing I have heard is Jefferies intentionally missed that pass to help ensure Carson stayed as the starting QB next year.

I don't think a different opinion is deserving of being called an idiot. I think those who do that are assholes. Wentz is the better choice, I believe, but Foles has certainly done enough to be in contention to stay in Philly. I would certainly be alright with him cashing in somewhere else though.

philly fan asshole? well I never!

they are saying sayonara to the only QB who ever won them anything with no hesitation. wentz is better so I don't disagree with them and we'll see if he can stay healthy (I hope so, you hate to see an elite QB's career derailed by injury).

Wentz is the guy with more upside, but his injuries and lack of playoff experience still hurt him. He still would be my main man in Philly though.

pssssssssst. pssssssssssssssst. opinions can be idiotic. you dont trade the guy you moved up in the draft to get to be your franchise qb after he's shown he can be an mvp level player the season after his pushed recovery from ACL and LCL tears. foles was mediocre the first two games of this season and went cold after the first quarter of the saints game. he had a magical run last year to win a super bowl and came in mid-december again against teams that had nearly played a full season and started hot again. he's a good qb and can be a great qb, but he hasnt had to play a full season as a starting qb in years. he was close to retiring. moving on from wentz after his third year cause of some playoff magic is dumb.

also, being labeled an asshole isnt insulting.

Opinions are usually just opinions in sports. And being labeled an asshole is usually insulting to those who normally don't act like one.

what the fuck does that even mean? sports are so easy to track and analyze that having an informed opinion isn't that hard.

and it's really not. it's over used. it offends nobody.

"you're an idiot" is not really that informed of an opinion, and favoring Foles slightly over Wentz is not completely asinine.

And opinions, no matter how informed, are still just opinions at the end of the day. Listen to ESPN Radio all day and know that even the guys getting paid don't always get it right. Hard to tell how the Philly situation will go. Opinions on where they should go do not warrant name calling. Try giving a counter-argument instead.

oh fuck off you sensitive little boy. i'll call him a fucking idiot for his idiot stance and if he wants my counter-argument it can be asked for. i'm allowed to be dismissive or rude, this isn't a class debate. if that bothers you, don't partake, but you're not here to police what the fuck i say.

favoring foles over wentz cause you assume wentz is going to keep getting hurt completely ignores that foles broke his hand and went on IR before, he broke his clavicle and missed the last 8 games of a season, he's gotten concussed and missed games. and his lows as a player have been much lower than wentz'. it's some silly hot take from an out of market football fan. it likely could end up a couple different ways, but the reasoning in this case was just dumb.

You're right man, who could argue with that? I would hate to see you when Philadelphia was lucky to sniff the playoffs. You would've blown your brains out if you were a Detroit sports fan.

Who kicked your mother in the balls to make you this angry? We really should have a sitdown and discuss these issues you are going through. I am available on Tuesdays from 10 to 2 and do group therapy Thursday nights at seven. I would recommend group therapy, because you seem like you would fit in with them. And don't worry, penis sizes will NOT be mentioned or discussed. I learned that lesson the hard way.

yaaaaaaaaaaawn. curse and call people some names, everybody thinks they've got a degree is counseling. it's embarrassingly lame. outside of your tedious injection of dumb playground respect rules nothing i've said has been even close to bordering angry. maybe you grew up in a house where people cursed at each other a lot and that made you scared, but this ain't the same.

did i do the lame 'patronizing of possible mental health issues' thing right? normally i keep my tit-for-tat a bit more classy, so y'all will have to tell me.

    You're no fun.

Anyways, I don't know how I feel about the Lions possibly trading Stafford away. I have bitched about him for years, but I feel the Lions will have finally completely given up when they do finally get rid of him. With a few exceptions, they really don't have anyone worth keeping or rebuilding around. Maybe a fresh start will make things bearable again.

Rams defense is healthier here. I think they take it 27-23

New England will win, possibly by two scores 23-14. Weather will be a factor.

I've been really annoyed by the media being on Sean McVay's nuts this year. He's done a good job, but the Rams are a pretty stacked team. He's definitely a tad overhyped.

Saints taking the Rams to the woodshed would be glorious

Did they maybe think he was behind the line of scrimmage? There is no PI on passes behind the line, correct?

But yes, totally agree. Horrible no call.

Refs are praying for the Saints to win now so it didn't matter.

I can't be happy for more football here. This is a huge injustice. Even having them play OT should they win is an injustice.

Should have been over already, the play calling before the no call was shocking.

Well shit. God I need the Chiefs to win. I don't want to have to support Suh.

What did Suh do in Miami to piss of Miami fans? Certainly no worse than what he did in Detroit?

It wasn't anything particularly bad at all. I just didn't even really like him as a member of the Dolphins but because he was on our team I ignored it.

I guess in reality I could overlook it. I would be doing it with the Chiefs and ignoring Hill.

Shite. Just run the ball 3 times. Not every play has to be overthought. Just do some basic stuff.

Threw it away there for no reason. The talk will all be about the no call but it shouldn't have even got to that.

Ah well at least I don't have to take a day off work now.

That was really sloppy by Brees. He'd lobbed it up riskily on first down too.

NFL refs are the best in the biz. They have a good eye when it comes to obvious passing interference calls.

Patriots have the right gameplan but only being up 7 or 10 would be a disappointment for them.

*edit* So I guess they'll be ok with 14.

Lovely game. Pats need to win though to reignite the east coast vs west coast rivalry. They can have holograms of biggie and 2 pac on the half time show
