Would only worry about a super flat showing by the Colts D in terms of not being able to keep pace. Luck is surgical right now and the Chiefs aren't presenting much of a challenge defensively right now. Plus, the Chiefs have a lot of momentum but they always seem to find a way to stumble in the playoffs.

That's going to be a home game for the Cowboys based on the crowd. I think the Rams have been exposed over the season that their defense hasn't been as good as they were projected to be. I do think Zeke as an outlet in the passing game is going to be a valuable option to keep that offense on the field.

The biggest leap of faith I think to take is to say the Chargers are going to go across the country again and get a W in Foxboro. The thing is, the Patriots just aren't that dominant in any facet of the game. The Chargers can get Brady on his heels, and Gordon can run on that defense.

I don't trust the secondary for the Eagles. That said, they've pretty much defied all of the odds to this point. I just think it's way too much of an ask this time around.

There is a decent story left with every team.

    - Can Brees get a second ring?
    - Can Dak get the Cowboys back to playoff prominance?
    - Can the Foles magic continue?
    - Can the Rams prove the doubters wrong?
    - Can the Pats make another run with an aging, weaker team?
    - Will Rivers make a run at his first ring?
    - Can Andy Reid get over the hurdle and win a ring?
    - Will Luck put it all together and make a deep playoff run?

Simply being in the divisional round is a decent storyline for any team. I just hope sports writers aren't looking in here or else we're basically doing their jobs for them.

    - Can the Rams win in the divisional round and advance to the final four?
    - Can the Eagles win in the divisional round and advance to the final four?
    - Can the Cowboys win in the divisional round and advance to the final four?
    - Can the Colts win in the divisional round and advance to the final four?
    - Can the Patriots win in the divisional round and advance to the final four?
    - Can the Saints win in the divisional round and advance to the final four?
    - Can the Chargers win in the divisional round and advance to the final four?
    - Can the Chiefs win in the divisional round and advance to the final four?

There's 8 articles. Do 2 a day and you've got half the USA Today sports section written for a week.

I do think there are legit good storylines to some of these.

Foles continue his run is a definite story.
Chiefs trying to win a home playoff game since Joe Montana and can Andy Reid actually win the super bowl.
Can the Rams win their first playoff game under McVay and Goff with all the money they spent this year.
Can the Cowboys make it to the NFC title game for the first time in like 25 years.
Then you have the Pats legacy and whether they can go to another AFC title game. 6 in a row?

The Pats have already played in the last 7 AFC title games. If they win Sunday they would be in their 8th straight. Also they've earned a first round bye for 9 straight years and won the division 10 straight times.

These facts seem boring at this point because of how good the Pats have been for so long, but do we think any of these will ever be matched? I expect all of these records to last our lifetimes. They just seem impossible to match in a time of free agency, schedule balancing, revenue sharing and salary cap minimums. It's impossible to be that consistent.

I don't think we will see it again in our lifetime. It's very hard for every team in the division to be that mediocre or bad for that long. The pats definitely deserve their accolades but it helps when your division hasn't put up much of a fight for 10 years. That's almost impossible in this day's NFL.

Not that I would bet it myself but the Chargers moneyline seems like a good bet this week EXCEPT for the fact that there is a possibility for snow in Foxboro this Sunday. Never trust a weather forecast 6 days in advance but if it does end up snowing, that ups my confidence level significantly. This game btw has the closest spread of the weekend with the Pats favored by 4.5.

I'm liking the Saints and Rams to cover (8 and 7 points respectively) and I probably won't touch the Colts/Chiefs. Chiefs -5.5 is probably the play there but the Colts are just so damn hot right now.

The narrative for the Colts is that they're only the third team since the merger to start 1-5 and get to the Play Off's. With a QB who nobody knew would play at a decent level again, who sat out of deep ball snaps at the start of the season. Ranked 32 in the Power Rankings at one point. What they've done is remarkable.

The Rams are set up to win this year. A lot of big, or potentially big, contracts on their books after their free agency acquisitions this season and re-signing Donald. With Jimmy G back next year and the Seahawks building another challenging squad too, it won't be a romp next year. That's not the AFC East.

So the Packers are apparently going to make Matt LaFleur their next coach. That seems...interesting. Can't say there's a ton to work off of in terms of what you saw with the Titans this season but of course there were crippling injuries that have to be accounted for. That said, this still seems like a reach.

LaFleur represents Central Michigan, so I wish him well. Hell, he's from the town I lived in for a decade.

I don't follow the Packers super close these days but Matt has a great ability to come up with a super kick ass Plan A for the offense. And seeing as how he has a QB who is going to shit on anything that isn't him whipping it down field all day, I'd say it's a good match.

In Tenn we needed a plan A,B,C,D and E in almost every game. A backup plan for the backup plan if you will. And he fucking sucked at that. If Plan A didn't work he seemed to just throw his hands up.

Fuck it took him 12 weeks to figure out that Derrick Henry was a necessity not an option.

Titans are good to be rid of him, I think the Pack will enjoy him as head coach.

Are you a Bears fan still angry that Cody Parkey missed that field goal? Think you can do better? Want free beer for a year?

Head out to Chicago now to give a 43 yard field goal a shot. Nail it and win free beer for a year.

Impressive. I tried a few years ago when I lived behind a football field. I think I was lucky get one through from about 10 yards out and that was it.

Ya, if it's something you've never worked on it's pretty difficult and I applaud that company for coming out with a way to show positively how it works.

Just hope they don't get upended with a bunch of ex jock soccer players and kickers fresh out of high school and college trying to cash in.

High school kids probably wouldn't be allowed because the reward is beer, but I get what you're saying. I'm sure it's all covered by insurance anyways. Like those "if it snows 3 inches on Christmas Eve you get your jewelry purchase for free" deals that jewelry stores do.

Eh, he deserves it. Just glad he stayed out of the NFC North.

Rumor has it Bowles hasn't signed with TB and could end up in Chicago. I'd be okay with that but could be a long shot

They just seem impossible to match in a time of free agency, schedule balancing, revenue sharing and salary cap minimums. It's impossible to be that consistent.

I expect that all of these records will be beaten in our lifetimes. In fact, it will happen next year, by the defending champion Patriots.

I am still looking at this Pats/Chargers game as a coin flip and we're not getting snow which is too bad but the temp should be in the 20s which is advantageous. Rivers has only played in 5 games in his entire career at below freezing temperature (measured by temp at kickoff), and he is 1-4. I think the Chargers clearly have the better roster, and yes they've been great on the road this year, but coming cross country to cold weather will get them out of their comfort zone.

    Pats 27, Chargers 24

I think it was pretty cold last week in Baltimore though. And it was cold in KC when the Chargers made that comeback. I don't think the cold weather will be an issue here.

I remember hearing they are 5-0 in their last five games played on the east coast so I am not sure how much of a factor that will be.

I would think that a cold weather situation indicates that the Chargers need to or intrinsically think they need to run more. Yeah, Gordon is gimpy but isn't the run defense more of the weakness for the Patriots?

it was 52 degrees for the ravens game. it's expected to be below 32 degrees in new england. fairly significant drop. lowest temp the chargers have played in was 37 degrees in the second KC game, everything else has been 50 degrees or warmer.

cold weather shouldn't generally mean run more. wind yes. rain to a lesser extent, but also yes. cold should not affect run vs pass strategy.

I think the Pats can stop Gordon on the ground, it's those dang check downs where he's going to catch and run for 20+ that will kill us.

Sorry, I meant to include that the colder weather was likely going to lead to difficult weather of some kind, whether it be rain or snow. That's what I meant to add to that.

Brady knows better than Rivers how the ball gets deflated in cold weather.

    Gase going to the Jets.

Shame, I know he's going to have amazing games against the Dolphins next year for revenge.

I completely agree. I don't think it will be quite that high scoring though.

The bowling shoes is the kicker, no pun intended. That makes it even more impressive because I can barely walk in bowling shoes without falling on my ass.

Brian Flores is looking like the Dolphins next head coach, though nothing can be made official until the Pats are eliminated from the playoffs (I think). Too bad, he only just this year reached DC status with us. I'd like to keep him. Greg Schiano has been rumored as a potential DC replacement in New England.

Do coordinators even matter in New England? Lord knows they've had 70 of them over the last ten years.

As far as tomorrow's games go I'll still take Colts over the Cheifs. I mean it's only logical. Besides my belief that the Colts are the best team in the AFC, look at the odds against the Cheifs.

    1. Best record in the conference.
    2. There will be snow on the field.
    3. Playing at home.
    4. Insane offense all regular season long.

As any K.C. fan who has been watching this team since the Schottenheimer years knows, this is the perfect storm of good news that they simply will not be able to overcome.

    Colts 17 - Cheifs 10

And Dallas finally comes back down to earth.

    Rams 35 - Cowboys 17

the chiefs don't need a perfect storm to lose a playoff game. they're 1-11 in their last 12.

True but it seems like they do even worse when everything is going their way.

They have to lose this game. It would be soooo Kansas City.

I get the Chiefs recent playoff history and the Andy Reid factor, but let's look at the laundry list of game manager and mediocre QBs the Chiefs have had in the playoffs since Joe Montana retired.

Steve Bono, Elvis Grbac, Trent Green, Matt Cassel, and Alex Smith

None of those guys were god awful, but I'm sorry you just cannot realistically expect a lot of playoff success with that group.

Mahomes is the MVP this year, I got the Chargers winning the AFC, but KC will at least make the AFC Championship.

Interesting matchup with how hot Luck's been versus how mediocre to bad he's been playing outdoors.

This has been a game for about 6 of the 45 minutes. Very much #1 vs. #6. Was hoping for a bit of a shootout but this Colt's offense has done absolutely nothing beside that drive ending in the missed field goal. That summed it up really.

    I...I just don't get it...

    What happened?

KC had home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

They had the most dynamic offense in the NFL.

They were playing a dome team at home in bad weather.

The deck was completely stacked in their favor.

...HOW THE FUCK DID THEY WIN?

Cowboys put up more of a fight then I thought they could. Still this game wasn't as close as the score. Dallas still a year or two away.

Saints and Pats are my picks.

I feel both games should be close. Hoping for some fun tv.

Whoever wins the AFC game today will be a fun matchup for the Chiefs. I’m really pulling for the Saints. Saints versus Rams in the NFC Title game should be bonkers.

Disappointed the Colts lost but it was a good season overall. Not only making the playoffs but winning a playoff game after starting 1-5 is amazing. Next year should be exciting if Luck continues to play at a high level and the O line can continue to protect him.

    Pats over Chargers 28-17
    Saints over Eagles 20-14

Trivia (honor system y'all, no googling)..

Belichick is 28-11 career in the playoffs.

Brady is 27-10 career in the playoffs.

What other QB did Belichick win in the playoffs with?

I assume it was with the Browns.

Cant think who their QB was back then though.

He's been doing golf longer, and I'm pretty sure that anyone associated professionally with golf and any other sport tend to always gun-to-their-head choose golf.

But when throwing in the final four I think his primary sport is simply broadcasting.

    This game blows.

Also if I hear "big chunk play" one more time I'm gonna pull my face off and eat it.
