I've said it before, when they were pushing him too hard, they created the ill will with him and it got baked in. Just like Cena. I don't think it'll completely go away, but there has been a turn around in the shows I've seen of late.

Like I said, there aren't many memorable matches in this era either, two of the things that really hurts the "memorable" factor is having to be toned down (I have seen some of these people on the indies and TNA, much different) and honestly lack of interesting characters.

Fair point. I don’t watch NXT very often but when I do I see some great matches by some talented guys. They get to the main roster and Vince neuters them.

I just don’t see how else they can make Reigns interesting. He’s played a badass and it hasn’t worked to perfection, he’s been in a stable and it worked pretty well but still not all there. It’s the only thing they haven’t tried.

If we're allowed to go back more than a couple years Cena/Punk from Money in the Bank 2011 and Raw in 2013 were both five star matches. Both HBK/Taker matches from Wrestlemania, both Taker/HHH Wrestlemania matches. Cena/Brock from Extreme Rules 2012. Cena/Brock from Summerslam 2014, Brock/Reigns from Wrestlemania 31. I'd throw the Cena/Styles match from the Royal Rumble in there too.

It's a different era now though and the bar is way higher. Way higher. It's much more difficult to make a match stand out because we've seen it all before and because they put on good quality matches every week, 52 weeks a year.
I'd put Styles vs Cena from the Rumble last year up with those matches you mentioned.

The matches you're talking about were few far between back in the 90's. That's why people talked about them so much. Nowadays, we get great matches on a regular basis, so there's no need to put certain ones up on a pedestal. There's just too many to talk about.
