I was impressed with First Omen. The girl who starred in it Nell Tiger Free was on a great show called Servant on Apple+, kind of that "satanic" theme on that show as well.

I did watch Night Swim last week as well. Reminded me of the early 2000's wave of Japanese horror remakes but I don't believe this was a remake.

Late Night was solid but I do think it was a little overhyped.

Got to see the new Joker film

Court room scenes are kind of boring / Gaga scenes are well Gaga

IDK because they GO NOWHERE WITH IT

    5/10

The new Crow.....It was definitely better than the Edward Furlong one but holy shit.....

Blink Twice. I was intrigued, went into it knowing almost nothing but right off the bat I knew I was going to probably hate it. I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. 5/10. Just a mess, not as bad as Crow though.

Joker Folie a Deux was amazing. The homage towards Heath at the end. Loved it.

    Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

I really liked it. Fun action movie with lots of one liners and brutal fight scenes. A little cheesy but well worth watching.

“Joker 2” is a musical, not sure how I feel about that.

The reviews I’m reading have not been kind. Haven’t talked to anyone personally who has seen it but between reviews and Reddit…not good.

It's been known it was going to be a "Musical" since it was announced. That's probably what fucked them a little lol. Plus people are so much more selective post-Covid with the movies they go see. The first one was 5 years ago. It hit at the absolute perfect time, incredible fucking movie. I'm going to see it on Saturday. If it's bad we'll find out. I'm intrigued by the approach. I will say this though....There are people who have seen the animated Killing Joke movie. There's a song and dance routine thats like 5 minutes that completely took me out of the movie. And then there's people who loved it. Again I haven't seen it so I'm not really defending this or hating it I just understand why people were not thrilled to see this and those who have shitting on it, I get it.

Joker: Folie a Deux: Some lovely cinematography and another visceral performance by Phoenix, but the negative reviews are justified. I think it’ll feature heavily on future lists of movies that just shouldn’t have been made. It really doesn’t know what it wants to be. It’s funny to see influencers and other people online trying to argue that it’s misunderstood or not meant to be enjoyed. No it’s just a mess. I’ll tag the rest in spoilers.

I gave Joker a C+. I understood why people didn't like it. Shit my tickets were 20% off which I've never had that happen at this theater other than Wednesdays when it's their discount day. A little less courtroom, maybe give Lady Gaga some actual dialogue and not just randomly singing shit that got really annoying the last 30-40 minutes. @Chris you made a good point about by the 2nd hour that shit was taking me out of the movie as well.

The nod to Heath Ledger's Joker was nice. I like them bringing back some of the people from the first movie. But another problem was here we have a movie 5 years later and it takes place a little while after the first movie. I won't spoil anything beyond what I've said and Chris really nailed most of how I felt as well about this movie. I just didn't really know where it was trying to go and maybe that was done intentionally after reading some of Phillips' commentary about what the movie was about, why he did it, why he didn't want to do it lol.

If you mugs need a solid escape and loved the Firefly Funhouse skits, go watch Mr. Crocket on Hulu. I was impressed. It reminded me of the Firefly Funhouse made into a movie. Very interesting. I would say this, if you were a fan of the Peter Jackson movie Meet the Feebles or again, the Wyatt stuff, you'll like this a lot. 8/10.

I'm watching GI Joe Rise of Cobra and so many different thoughts are running through my head. For one, and I'm sure there's an answer or 5 to this but why did it take so long to make a GI Joe movie? Also, why have the 2 they gave us been so mid? It's like if you took all the good from both movies and combined them it would be a solid GI Joe movie. I think what really hurt these movies is trying to make everything "real world". Kind of like how we didn't see a demented Peter Pan Green Goblin costume and more of a mech suit. Some of the casting choices were duds. I never liked Marlon Wayans in the first one. Same reason I couldn't get into that Dungeons and Dragons movie he was in. He's funny but not "action star funny" if that makes. Chaning Tatum while solid, I felt the role should've been for someone a little older. Duke always came across as someone who had put in like 20 years already and was the elite of the elite. Cobra Commander....don't get me started.

What I'm hoping is they are going to really go forward with the Transformers/GI Joe crossover and we get something very cool. I thought the Snake Eyes movie was awesome. Again, the first 2 movies were like C level. 50% was really good, 50% really bad.

The current GI Joe/Transformers comics are so good, its ridiculous. My friend and I are big Joe fans and we pitched the idea as a slow burn to GI Joe show. It works with building the world around the threat of domestic terrorist groups and corporate military organizations. There is so much to mine from the comics as well as the cartoon that you could run that for awhile. It would allow more time to flesh out the other Joes besides Duke, Scarlett and Snake Eyes. I don't think GI Joe works as a movie especially after how bad they fumbled the Snake-Eyes. The Transformers/GI Joe crossover as a movie needs at least one good GI Joe movie and they go ahead. The last two Transformers movies have been really good at least better than the Bay ones.

I was somewhat surprised both GI Joe movies were box office successes. I thought one of them lost money but nope, they profited. I think Snake Eyes was great but it was a victim of Covid. Maybe that's a lazy excuse idk. Just sucks because since it didn't do well I think they cancelled some other Joe projects-could've just been rumor.

I honestly think if they can piggy back off the crossover movie and give us some cool GI Joe movies/shows that would be awesome. Again for me with those GI Joe movies it was just too "real world" and needed to look like the figures/shows. Is it a stretch? Of course it is, no more of a stretch than aliens who come to Earth that can take over vehicles and transform yet we've had about 10 movies total of that franchise including animated. Shit give us another GI Joe animated movie it's been 40 years and even that one wasn't perfect. Barely any Snake Eyes lol

Finally tried watching Van Helsing (2004). Put it off for two decades 'cuz I heard time and time again that it was shit. It absolutely is. But it was entertaining nonetheless and we had fun shit-talking it while we watched. My main motivation was as a massive Frankenstein nerd, I wanted to see their version of the monster and hoped I'd at least like him. As far as that's concerned, their character design for him was cool as hell and it was nice that he was well spoken but he was an absolute bitch, damsel-in-distress, McGuffin and didn't do shit other than get captured repeatedly, only accidentally kill Igor, and never had a cool-ass moment of looking like a hero/threat. Figured he could've at least gone hog wild chokeslamming those goth Oompa Loompas that Dracula had but no such luck. Anyway, this movie is stupid and it's a shame their cool Frankenstein wasn't in a different movie being used better.

I remember really liking Van Helsing when it first came out. I think I took a date to it in the theater and she liked it too. Watched it last week again for the first time since then and it was so much worse than I remember. I love cheesy movies so it definitely checked their box but it didn’t hold up well. Also was kind of surprised it didn’t get a sequel somehow, I thought it was a big hit back in the day.

    Speaking of cheesy movies:
The Meg 2 -woof. This movie was an abortion in every sense of the word. -2/10 stars. No redeeming quality at all. It sucks because the series of books is great, albeit obviously over the top cheese and action. But this was not the books in any way, shape, or form. Just terrible. If I was the author, Steve Alten, I’d be angry how they massacred my novel into…whatever the fuck this was.

It was like half an episode of X-Files where all the nonsense happened prior to Mulder getting the case.

The thing about Van Helsing is that it was a movie of it's time. Hugh Jackman was super popular as Wolverine. Kate Beckinsale was one of the "It" girls, she had just did Underworld right before this. I remember my son was maybe 4 when the DVD came out and it was one of the first movies he was entertained by. Even to this day because he's not big on movies he'll bring it up. This movie also came out I think a year or two after League of Extraordinary Gentlemen who had the guy who played Dracula in it too. They were trying to do all these wild mash ups long before Marvel.

I think FX or Spike would show Van Helsing all the time it seemed so I would catch it here and there. I don't think I've watched it start to finish in 15+ years.

I know we've had plenty of "Top 900 movies" lists but what are some essentials for Halloween. For me I always have to watch The Crow on Devil's Night. I always try to knock out some Romero movies.

I'd say Halloween (1978) but I watch that so much during the year that I can miss it on actually Halloween.

Trick 'R Treat (2007) is a good movie to make a traditional Halloween viewing. I'll probably watch that, Hellraiser (1987) and if time allows, Halloween Kills (2021).

The Thing is always my go to for Halloween season... that and Tales from the Cypt's Demon Knight.

I didn't end up watching any of the films I hoped to see.

Saw Maxxxine and Fresh instead. Both were ok. Maxxxine fell short of expectations, as I really enjoyed X and Pearl. Fresh was unique, and enjoyable.

I did watch Demon Knight a few days ago. One of those wild movies that I never get sick of watching.

I had to finish the month strong last night with Halloween II (1981) That's my favorite of the series.
