    Hope you dig it.

Saw a couple more flicks recently...

Be My Cat: A Film For Anne - Found footage flick. Fucked up and very convincingly authentic for the most part. Romanian dude wants to make a movie with Anne Hathaway so it's his pitch tape where he hire some actresses to film some scenes to convince her and...yeah, it gets weird/bad.

Frankenstein - From 2015, a modern adaptation starring Carrie-Anne Moss, Tony Todd, Danny Huston (one of those guys you don't know his name but you know his face) and Xavier Samuel who is incredible as Monster. I read about this movie awhile back but never got around to seeing it until now. Holy shit, it's so good. Some very intense and moving scenes and really interesting reinterpretations of classic scenes. Just an excellent version and honestly I'd put it up there as one of my favorites. I'm gonna be recommending it every chance I get.

This recommendation convinced me to check out the trailer. I'll now definitely be watching this film when I get some time soon.

    really good

    a technical masterpiece

not sure if the one-shot style will lend itself to a ton of replayability but it was an excellent first watch

    8.5/10

Thanksgiving was a pretty decent slasher, even if you saw the twist coming a mile away.

Eli Roth movies are weird, they shouldn't be good but you end up enjoying them.

I like Eli Roth in the sense that he's a true horror fan. So everything he does is coming from a place of love for the genre as a whole as he seems to mix several genres into one. It's weird that the best thing he's done is Jew Bear when most of the movies he's in he's terrible lol. I guess his little part in Cabin Fever with our long time BFF Ryder Strong was decent.

Haha, I started watching Cabin Fever the other day, hadn't seen it since I saw it in theaters. That Pancake kid is the best part of the movie.

I watched My Dinner with Andre and Burn After Reading. I liked Andre, but it does feel a bit dated and it leans to a weird idea of what it means to be human. However, I liked the concept of two guys just having a really great discussion for almost two hours. Burn had an All Star cast and just a mess of a script in the third act. There was a big shock midway through, but it just felt kinda flat.

Saw this movie on Shudder, the Wretched. About a witch. Pretty good. I just put it on randomly and turned into being not so bad.

Read about it later and apparently it was number one at the US box office for five weeks during the height of the pandemic

Holy shit Godzilla Minus One. I heard all the good word of mouth, but I was such a Shin Godzilla fan I kinda went into it with my arms crossed. But dear God it's as great as people are saying.

Never got to see this, as I fell really ill last week . Haven't been out of the house in over a week, sucks. But what are you gonna do. Feeling a lot better today.

We bought tickets to see Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 tomorrow at the theaters, should be good enough to go to that. We watched the first over the weekend, typical 80s horror slasher but was fun.

I felt like there were several nods to movies like Die Hard, obviously Home Alone lol. I was shocked at how good this movie was but people kept saying it was solid. I put it right up there with the Tales from the Crypt episode All Through the House.

I'll say this....Despite those involved who say it wasn't a Christmas movie, Die Hard CAN be one. Just like Gremlins, Batman Returns, shit half the movies people say are "Christmas" movies don't even have jack to do with Jesus Christ. And just because Candace Cameron is in the movie doesn't automatically make it religious.

    .
I prefer the All Through The House segment from the Tales From the Crypt movie over the TV series one, though both are pretty good. I say this despite Larry Drake being one of my favorite actors of all time.

I definitely need to go find my Tales From the Crypt DVD collection and put that segment on this holiday season!

I THINK Larry Drake is the only actor to be on the show more than once. He was in All Through The House as the mental patient disguised as Santa and he was the butler Tobias in "The Secret"

Do you have the collection with all 7 or did you have to buy each season individually like me? lol Man I was a little hot when they released all 7 together after spending several years having to wait for each one to drop. But the cases are cooler.

I got all 7 seasons separately, though my brother got me them for Christmas one year. I think that must have been the year he decided to spend $100 on each family member. Must have just gotten a job but had no wife/house at that point haha.

Just a fantastic show. I'm not a big fan of reboots/remakes, but I can't see why they just don't revive this, with all new tales by modern filmmakers.

They were so close to bringing it back on TNT with M Night Shamalan being the main producer/director but they couldn't get the HBO Cryptkeeper and I think some other shit fell through. They were going to use the original Cryptkeeper from the comics/movie but again, I'm just pulling this from memory so I could have a couple details mixed up.

Who knows maybe someone went back and watched Season 7 and thought nevermind lol. That was the season where they had to film everything in the UK and some of the episodes are really good but you can tell there was definitely a buget cut and just overall different vibe. That shit was more like Dark Shadows than Tales imo.

I enjoyed Silent Night, Deadly Night, but did Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 really need to be 60 minutes of a recap of the first film, with 30 minutes of new film? Don't get me wrong, those 30 minutes were quite entertaining but the recap part seriously drags it all down.

It reminded me of Friday the 13th Part 2, where the first 20-30 minutes is just a recap of Part 1. LAME.

So is anybody going to see Iron Claw (and then going to review it)

Should the movie be reviewed here or are you going to start it’s own separate thread in - perhaps - the non-WWE wrestling section?

Nice. Diva is trying to figure out a night that they have off I think so that we can go. I tend to go like weekend mornings to cheap showings of anything I watch but I think we are going to do a night showing because they work a lot of weekend days.

I saw Dial Code Santa, a French film from 1989. It's basically Home Alone but with Santa instead of Wet Bandits. The makers even threatened to sue Home Alone for plagiarism.

Pretty good film, not as good as Home Alone, but I'd add it to my holiday watch list each year.

Next up I have Christmas Vacation on Saturday, Carol on Monday, and Iron Claw on Tuesday.

If you’re looking for XMAS movies that aren’t slasher movies or hokey comedies, there are several that can be found on YouTube or free tv, one a classic movie with Cary Grant , ‘The Bishop’s Wife’ is a good one, as well as ‘Christmas in Connecticut’. Another is ‘The Man Who Came To Dinner’. Well, the latter two are comedies....

A truly charming short movie (in the same length of a Three Stooges short) is called ‘A Star In the Night’, which is heartwarming, a modern take off on an old story that we all have heard. Very well done and guaranteed to touch the heart and great to watch with the Fam too....

I saw The Bishop's Wife recommended somewhere.

I enjoyed watching Home Alone for the first time since child.

Saw this last night. One of the best films of the year. Godzilla’s screen time was used so well, the kamikaze framing is a nice emotional arc throughout the film, and the score was fantastic.

It’s impressive what they’ve done with such a relatively small budget compared to the big Hollywood franchises but I think the studios will ultimately miss the point of why it’s so good. The human characters in this are actually well written and likeable.

We knocked out Elf, the 1985 Santa Claus, Home Alone, a few others.

I also watched The Creator. Just dropped on Hulu. Really really good movie.

Bad Santa was the better Christmas movie from 2003. Will Ferrell is just awful. Though Bad Santa isn't as good as I thought it was.

Home Alone is still great, and always loved 1985 Santa Clause.

The Creator looked so bad from the trailer, but if it's on Hulu maybe I'll give it a try based on your recommendations.

I saw National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, still great. Carol was pretty good too, though I fell asleep during the last few moments.

Going to see Iron Claw tonight.

It's A Wonderful Knife was good. I see it on a lot of worst horror of 2023 lists but it wasn't that bad. 6 out of 10.

Oh yes, it was very good. 9/10 from me. It isn't factually accurate, but I'm sure they made changes to fit a film's run time. No Chris Von Erich, time frame of events being inaccurate, etc. Still, it was a wonderful film. I only ever knew Kerry Von Erich because of his time in WWE, so it was good to learn some stuff. Very sad movie, not sure if it's one I'd watch multiple times.

The guy who played Ric Flair though, obviously has never seen or heard a Ric Flair promo before. What an awful bit that was.

I actually saw a clip of the Flair promo.

Guess that guy didn't have 5 minutes to do a youtube search

Anyway, probably will try to catch it in the next week or so.

Zac Efron was incredible. I'd like to see a Best Actor nomination, but we know that won't happen.

Jeremy Allen White was pretty good too, he resembled Kerry very much.

I'm glad the actors took the pro wrestling seriously. I've heard interviews where they praised how difficult it is.

I watched Nope. I didn't love it. Too much was going on and I think it would have benefited from being more straight-forward. It felt like it had a message about hollywood and fame and attention but i couldnt really understand what the message was and i wasnt interested enough to look it up after watching. like i wish it was more just the trying to defeat the UFO and not trying to film it.

    6/10

I disagree with lets defeat the UFO idea. The reality is if it was a real UFO, they would have lost badly. I loved what it is though. I am big fan of good hard sci-fi that the reveal was a nice touch. I think the story is about nature and fame. Steven Yuen's character is under the belief that he was able to control the beast and he could do it later when in actuallity he lucked out. When his luck runs out, it runs out.

The 1979 Salem's Lot tv miniseries. I just finished the book and then wasted 3 hours of my life watching whatever the hell this was lol. Now I get why so many people who read the King books FIRST hate the movies. I'm usually the one watching the movies first then reading the books to see what was left out and holy shit....I knew I was going to hate this the second I saw the actor who played Ben Mears

I've only seen 2 movies so far this year:

Halloween (1978) - I wish I knew how many times I've seen this film, probably around 100 times. So good. 10/10

Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult - I've seen this the least of the Naked Gun movies, but it's still very good. I only watched it cause I found out Fred Ward died last year. RIP. 8/10

    “Ferrari”.

Headed in without any idea what the film was about; a pretty decent cast but I was wholly unimpressed with the storyline.

    The Equalizer 3.

Love the Equalizer trilogy. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the final one yeah? If so, it kind of felt like a lackluster ending IMO. I think 2 had a better ending that better fit Robert's yearning for closure. Even though this was still enjoyable, it took a long time for it to get going and the villains here were pretty mid. Especially the top guy.

I think they are making a prequel film, but not sure about continuation of the story.

I don't blame him, dude's been putting in the work w/ these lone wolf action movies. He's pretty much the same guy in all his movies, bad guys underestimate him and just get jobbed out and are all duuude who are you?

Definitely need to rewatch =2 again even though a bunch of it has its filler, mainly the Miles and old man stuff. Rest is solid though.

Took my daughter to see Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, she loved it. Of course, it might have something to do with meeting McKeena Grace and getting a hug and a bracelet because she wore her Spengler outfit. McKenna said the bracelet means she is part of the family. So, she is biased. Having said that...minus a few things here and there, its pretty good film about the Spengler family and friends. I am just glad we get more fun Ghostbuster adventures with some old friends. I also request that movies start on time instead of thirty to forty minutes of commercials.

I've watched a bunch of movies over the last few months but I'll just focus on the most recent ones:

Late Night with the Devil: Very solid. Honestly I liked it more than I thought I would and I was already into it by what I was seeing on the internet. I actually had just cancelled my AMC+ membership last Monday and then I saw this was going to be on Shudder for free so I'm like fuck, snatched up AMC+ and it bundled with MGM+ for $10.

Argyle: I saw the cast and had to check it out. Very interesting movie where Bryce Dallas Howard is a spy novelist but they kind of blend into reality so you don't know if her stories are fact or fiction. Funny, worth the watch.

I saw Late Night with the Devil a few weeks ago, in the theater and thought it was meh.

Just re-watched it last night on Shudder and it was a lot better. Probably meant for the small screen haha.

I tend to watch Halloween a lot on Shudder, though I own it on Blu Ray multiple times. I guess it's just convenient than having to put a disc in a player.

I don't really watch much else on the app

I found it a little confusing and one of those endings that-and maybe I'm wrong I haven't looked it up-where the director will say "it's open to interpretation" I'll put the rest in spoilers:

My ex gf from way back is the same. We still talk and the other day she was going on about all these movies she hadn't seen like Forest Gump, Titanic, but she tags me and goes "But thanks to this guy I've seen Redneck Zombies" lol. I was like shit had I known you never saw Halloween, I would've put that on instead.

I watched a very strange movie last night. Under the Silver Lake with Andrew Garfield. He wants to hook up with a girl in his complex but she moves out in the middle of the night so he tries to track her down. Meets a bunch of interesting people. The one thing I liked and I hope it's not too much of a spoiler but there are some pretty solid references to big movies he did prior to this one. It was done by the same guy who did IT FOLLOWS so there's a little bit of horror but it's mostly a dark comedy.

7/10. Would've been a 6 but I just remember Sydney Sweeney was in it for a little bit so that bumped it up. Topher Grace hindered it from making it to an 8 though.

I saw some Satyajit Ray movies: Pather Panchali, The Holy Man, The Elephant God, and The Stranger.

Can I say E.T. as well? Yeah, I saw a E.T. and I'd like to believe it was Ray's idea. So sue me.

Saw X - I got out of the series for a while and couldn't tell you what happened between Saw 2 and Jigsaw, but X really delivered. The story really flowed and moved along better than I expected, something I would watch again. There's only so much ridiculous gore and death scenes before they start to feel alike but the main story here is that John/Jigsaw has a terminal illness and travels to Mexico, pays a bunch of money (gets scammed) and the procedure is not actually performed. They really tied it together beginning to end with characters I had forgotten about and thinking anyone involved would just be pure coincidence was wrong.

Monkey Man - I could've passed on this one, it took a while to really get moving and I would say don't give up on it if the first half is a turd. Looking back about it, I would probably watch it again knowing that it took some time to get going, the second half was well done. A good revenge movie with good story development sprinkled in.

Furiosa - I went in not sure if it would live up to Fury Road, considering it was a prequel for the title character. This was a fun, fun movie done well. I kinda wish we had gotten Furiosa before we got Fury Road but I imagine there was a reason for this. If you liked Fury Road you'll like this as well. Pretty consistent with the Mad Max movies and crazy characters developed, and you even get an appearance from former WWE guy Nathan Jones.

I never really saw any previews for Monkey Man so I honestly was under the impression it was something horror related. Then I read the synopsis and I'm like shit it's a fighting movie? It was ok. Not really a movie I'd tell people to check out unless they were fans of B-movie level martial arts revenge movies. This was on par with some whack shit Don the Dragon Wilson would've done and you just watched it because you were 12.

Any Jean-Claude Van Damme fans? I watched Cyborg for the trillionth time last night. It's hard for me to choose my favorite between Kickboxer, Cyborg, and Bloodsport.

I haven't seen many JCVD movies. Time Cop, Street Fighter, and JCVD are the only ones that come to mind. I should probably check out some more.

Inside Out 2 was cute. Took the girls to their first movie theater. My six year old loved it. She didn’t quite understand what anxiety or an anxiety was but I think I explained it to her well enough for her to get it. The movie had a good message about handling your emotions and not losing sight of who you are. Really enjoyed it. I’m sure there will be a third considering it’s a huge success so far.

Sudden Death is one of my favorites of his, still a good action movie all these years later. Also enjoyed Death Warrant. Will have to check out Cyborg, pretty sure I've never seen it.

Steve Seagal was one I really got into his movies but Van Damme was always a solid action watch years back. I go through this Seagal phase every few years like it's hell yeah bing watch time. I'll watch from Above the Law up to The Foreigner, so he had a span of 15 years of mostly watchable movies, but haven't really gotten into his movies past that.

Beverly Hills Cop 4. I liked it a lot. I was never a super fan of the franchise but I thought they were all pretty good. Kind of the typical approach we've seen with sequels that have that 20-30 year gap where the main character has a kid and the relationship they share. 7/10

Kong/Godzilla. I forgot about this one because of Godzilla Minus One. I'm a huge fan of all this stuff especially the older films. If you're a fan of Godzilla/Kong Kong you'll definitely enjoy this. 7/10.

This one was my second favorite of the Monsterverse movies, with King of Monsters being my favorite. Did you watch Monarch on Apple TV? I was pleasantly surprised at that show.

Finally watch Dune II and it made me realize that I am going to have to read the books. I really really liked both newer Dune movies and cannot wait for the final one. I give Dune II a 9/10.

Is this the same Godzilla from...I want to say 2014? and the same Kong from Peter Jackson's film? If so I'll stay far away.

I thought Monarch was really good.

Yeah I was hoping there was going to be a Dune III the way II ended.

Finally watched The Revenant. I went into it knowing almost nothing aside from who directed it, Leo starred in it, and there was something about a bear. I probably forgot everything from previews, I didn't even remember Tom Hardy being part of the cast. Good movie. I would definitely give it an 8 or even a 9. I can definitely see why it won so many awards.

Twisters was a pleasant surprise. I’m a huge fan of the original so I was worried going in that this was going to be a clunky remake. It has some similar elements but tells a more emotional story and there’s a bigger theme about the damage of tornadoes and helping people in trouble. And there’s still plenty of practical effects in amongst the CGI. Daisy Edgar Jones was great and it feels like we’re watching the rise of a proper star in Glen Powell.

I watched The Conversation for the first time during its brief re-release in cinemas. Good 70s paranoid thriller. Loved the slow descent into Union Square at the start.

MaXXXine looks great and has a brilliant soundtrack. But I felt the story petered out and some of the characters weren’t developed enough to care about what happens to them. It went a bit Tarantino in places. I haven’t seen Pearl but this doesn’t come close to the quality of X.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die was great fun. I didn’t have high hopes for the third or fourth instalments but if you like the formula, then it delivers on that whilst toning down some of the excess and bloat from the Michael Bay era.

I didn’t get on with Furiosa at all. It was way too long, the larger number of characters and time periods drags down the pace, and the action set pieces aren’t as memorable or as innovative as Fury Road.

Abigail. Overall, happy that I gave it a watch. First half of the movie was a good buildup, and the second half just felt like a catastrophe. I mean, the story progresses and all but I made the Larry David face as it was coming down to the end.

I met Segal once years ago, I was learning Aekido and my teacher was taught by the same guy who taught Segal so we ended up at a display that he was at, colossal entitled prick but my God the guy was scary, much bigger than I expected (I was 5’8 and around 19 stone at the time) and freakishly fast.

    Total knobhead though

I don't want to get into spoilers, but that was some mixed bag of bad ass moments to trying to do the entire franchise in that last hour.

Finally got to see Godzilla Minus One. Wanted to see it in theater but it was only here for 2 weeks so I missed it. Excellent film. Great human drama and terrific monster goodness. If I had any complaint, and it's not much of one, it's
    .

Banged out some movies, 3 were new 1 was older:

Run Ronnie Run-Reminded me a lot of Joe Dirt and B-level comedies from the early 2000's. I was at a hotel with my gf for a few days and she said I had to see this so she literally ordered it off Amazon for this trip since I was bringing the PS4 in case our tv situation sucked (PS5 had to stay home, fuck risking that thing getting broken lol). I give this movie a 7 out of 10. I love dumb comedy.

Alien Romulus-We thought about going to see the new Crow but the showtimes were cut back considerably. The 2 days we had available the showings were 8:55 and 9:55pm so we were like fuck that lol. Glad we went to this. I think the Alien/Predator universe is an incredible universe and I love all the Alien movies. This one was great, highly recommend. 8 out of 10.

Twisters-Wish we had seen this in the theater but that's ok it was still really good, more violent IMO than the first one back in the 90's and just an all around solid movie. 7 out of 10, could've been better but I would watch it again for sure.

Trap-This was actually the movie I was hoping my gf and I would go see but it was already out of the theater BUT thanks to PLEX we were able to watch it last night. Holy fucking shit this movie was incredible. Josh Hartnett who is very selective about the movies/shows he's part of these days knocked it out the fucking park. I'm going to say this and maybe it's that recency bias kicking in but of all the movies I've seen this year, it might be the best. If Deadpool/Wolverine never happened I would say it was the best new movie I've seen in 2024. 9 out of 10. Other than DP/Wolverine IDK a better movie in 2024.

My favorite of the year so far would be the First Omen, but haven't seen many 2024 films:

    Alien: Romulus 5/10
Night Swim 5/10 (don't think it was as bad as people made it out to be, probably would have been more disappointed seeing it on the big screen, maybe)
    The First Omen 9/10
Tarot 7/10 (Quite enjoyed this one, also not as bad as I heard it was, maybe seeing it on TV benefited)
Late Night With the Devil 6/10 (overhyped)
    Lisa Frankenstein 8/10
    Love Lies Bleeding 8/10
