I tried the Madden 19 trial on ORIGIN ACCESS for PC after chatting with Morrison about it being a good way to just try it out
Felt like the exact same game. Not overly impressed so far at all probs not buying
They've tweaked some bits of CFM but I'm not seeing much different otherwise.
It's gotta be pretty close. I think Pablo has edged it in Madden 18 though
All-time I don't think it's close. You demolish me there. I think I never beat you in 16. And in 17 you still beat me more often than not (outside of that first season super bowl and maybe one other time). In 18 I think I might have a win or two more.

I do not plan to get Madden 19 and am definitely in favor of keeping this league going, or at least doing some exhibition matches with you guys.
I won't be able to play much of the next few months though but I should be back to normal availability in the fall.
I know team building is fun and all but my preference would be to do a tournament with real team rosters. I know the rosters will be a year old, but still. We could do a double elimination round robin or something, even if there's only like 5 or 6 of us (i.e. not actual seasons, it would be all user games and we could track it offline). We could do a series of these tournaments. The good players could pick shitty teams to even the playing field.

Doing a low investment tournament could open it up to new players. I remember when we did the mini tournament between seasons a few years ago and it was awesome. I don't even know if that format is still a thing.
Ha. Thanks dude. I actually didn't get even remotely upset. I suspected that I was going to be outclassed so I was just trying to figure out why he was able to intercept every single crossing route. It didnt help me at all but i was actually pretty intent on trying to get some little victories in the 2nd half.

Beefy won. my before half play calling ruined me. Awful defensive call led to one touchdown. Followed by me driving well before throwing a stupid pick trying to force something. Then once again getting out playcalled. 14-0 swing had me playing from too far behind. Had I kept him to just the one TD who knows. Well played Beefy good luck in the super bowl. If we are keeping this editon going I am ready to start another season whenever it is time. I am also fine to buy the new one and do that.
I like this game a lot more as I spend more time with it. I'm fine with whatever you guys decide for next season.

Beefy let me know how you feel about Madden 19 the more you play as if it gets good feedback from you guys compared to 18 after longer play testing then I might get it. I'll probably get the itch in a few weeks anyway when football starts..

Sounds like we are taking one more run at 18. I have a proposal for the new run:
Let's use regular teams and handicap the league based on user level or something along those lines. Fro and I should have a higher rated team than Beefy and Pablo for instance...
The other thing is that we are probably only running 1 more game season on 18. Might be cool to roll with the handicapped team ratings and do 1 last season.

I'm really enjoying Madden, the real player motion thing is super hard to get used to.
You can just spam the turbo button anymore. You have to hit it with a cut. If you hold it as soon as your rb gets the ball the defense sheds blocks like crazy and you go no where.
It makes stretch plays super fun when this work. Run parallel to the line of scrimmage and when you see a hole cot towards it and hit the sprint button. It feels fantastic.
Also the coverage is better I think. The linebackers definitely for an upgrade so it's hard to dink and dunk over the middle constantly.
I am really enjoying it but a lot of people are bitching super hard about it.

I hate it. I feel like this is how Morrison and others have felt about Madden before. I find the whole thing incredibly frustrating and not at all like something I want to invest anything like the time in that would be necessary to maybe get competent. Running feels completely broken. Every RB is super sluggish, OL don't hold blocks at all. The AI players aren't impacted at all by the whole RPM system so they glide around weightlessly. It's alright saying don't hold sprint until you hit a hole but I never have a hole to hit.
The AI can't run at all.
I should caveat my comments here that obviously I'm coming from our league in M19 where I had an insane OL full of stud run blockers and am now trying to run behind the Giants' OL so obviously it'll be way harder but I don't feel like it's hard I feel like the game is cheating the player.
Running seems to be a common complaint on Reddit and forums but my biggest problem is passing or specifically catching. My players will not catch the ball. I'll have three and outs where the entire series is throws which have hit Saquon Barkley's head or hit Evan Engram in the back. None of these are contested catches btw. My last game last night Eli finished with a 30% passing accuracy. I honestly think I've gone for it on fourth down more in the seven games I played in M19 than I did in total last year and they're all rage decisions on fourth and long after yet another bullshit piece of in-game scripting.
Worst thing about the drops is that they happen in the training too so you'll be having to repeat drills over and over because your receiver has let the ball hit him in the face instead of making any attempt to catch it.
Don't even get me started on that cunt Johnathan Coachman. Bad enough that he ruins my Mondays without having to listen to him on this.
The one positive is that some of the animations are truly lifelike. I had one play yesterday on Defense where Dak was scrambling in the pocket before dumping off to Zeke who turned upfield and got tackled by Olivier Vernon. The two players engaged and Vernon after maybe a second of tussling ripped the ball out to force a fumble. The whole thing just looked beautiful.
Another season on M18 then?
If I play another season in 18 it won't be for a random one-off season. I enjoy the roster building more than anything else.
I haven't heard great things about 19 through other places as well.
Why don't we redo a brand new CFM? I don't think we should continue with our current season and I say this as someone who has the majority of his team in their prime still.

I rented it, and it got to a point with recovering a fumble that just turned me off of it. There would be a fumble by my QB and none of the offensive players would dive at the ball or try to pick the ball up... they would jump over it.
I had another where an offensive lineman of mine went over to a ball, stopped, bent over to pick it up, and it somehow ended up bouncing 8-10 yards away to be recovered by the other team.
Ultimate looks like it could be solid, but not different enough to be worth while for me.
I've never seen so much low effort play by an offense as 19 has. Throw it to a drag receiver and the guy running a post just stops. Even if you go near him, don't expect a blocker.
O linemen and fullbacks that don't block on a toss.
And a ridiculous amount of sack fumbles. Watson had 11 fumbles in 4 games last night.
Somehow EA made 19 worse.
Also cutting up field has been made more difficult somehow.
Oh and if you run crossing slants, make sure they have passed by each other or the defender will stop on a dime and intercept the other guys route. Man or zone is irrelevant.
More injuries also. Watt, Watson, Lamar Miller, Hopkins, Fuller, and my entire Oline are out for the season. In week 6! Not counting the people who "only" got knocked out for the game. Every. Single. Game.
We should do another 18. How long is it supported for?
EA normally keeps servers up for 5 years or so. Should be good still.

It's only one game but I switched to competitive (which our league was on last season) and the game played much better. I still sucked but didn't feel like I was being cheated.

They've fixed a lot of the problems. It's a very different game to 18 - it's all about good run blocking and play-action passes. I still think RPM was a mis-step and they need to tweak things again - I've not seen a single injury or fumble in seven games since the last update.
