Looks awesome. Started the book a few months back but haven't picked it back up. From the looks of the trailer it appears we're not going to see them as adults like the original movie but the original was like 4 hours long. So maybe they tell the story of them as kids and THEN the next movie would be the adult stories. I haven't read up on the new movie at all so maybe they will bounce back and forth.

We will never get the book end to the kids part of the story. Good idea focusing it on the kids in the book.

Dang that does look good. The part that creeped me out though was the kid repeating "You'll float too."

Haven't read the book (it's sat on my shelf, unread and terrifying, for about a decade) but they could fairly easily cut the adult stuff out and simply have the kids fight It in the sewer, couldn't they? It's been a while since I saw the original, but nothing immediately springs to mind that necessitates them returning as adults years later rather than simply having all that play out when they're still kids.

It was the first horror movie I ever seen, and it scared the shit outta me. It gave me nightmares, but I watched it over and over. It's still one of my favorite movies, and is my main movie to watch when I'm trippin. I'll give this a chance, but I don't think it will top the original.

Yeah I think the idea is to do two films like that.

God I'd fucking hope not. It doesn't even really make sense in the book and it's just...all kinds of wrong.

Still the best King book I think.

It was a staple for me when I was younger to watch it on USA. The first part would be shown on Saturday, and the 2nd on Sunday. They did that what, 4-5 years in a row maybe more?

And I need to bang out the book. It's like 1,000 pages and shit it took about 40 pages just to introduce 3 characters I recognized from the movie (Bill, Georgie, Stan, I guess his wife would be 4). But I'm literally just getting started, can't wait.

Fuck yeah. And IT wasn't even shown on that though. They would show it at like noon. But yeah, Up All Night is where I was introduced to Troma Studios, it's where I first saw THEY LIVE and the other Piper gem "Hell Comes To Frogtown". Gilbert and that hot blonde Ronda.

Excited for IT. Currently re-reading... it.

It is, in fact, going to be two films. King has a reputation for his adapted books either sucking (see: most of them) being very good but a bit different (see: The Shining) or being incredible but completely reworked or expanded (see: The Shawkshank Redemption).

I'd imagine It will be faithful expanded over two films and it's a good idea to do one with the kids, one with the adults.

The Dark Tower is pretty much continuing on from the books, and if you've read them it makes sense.

I can't image the one with the adults to be that good. The kids story was much more depth and terrifying. I would assume they are going to connect the two at the end like they did in the book. I went through a summer or two where I got all the King books from my library. I think I read It after Carrie and Christine. The Stand mini-series while not the best acted is pretty good considering. I still think Carrie the movie as as good as its going to get as far as that story goes. I never read Dark Half or the Shinning. I gave up on Rose Maurder half way through. Regulators or Bag of Bones was the last one I got through.

I can't wait for this... IT was the first horror movies I watched I think at like age six. My bro made we watch the movie damn-"IT" !! Messed with me for awhile. Not to mention I lived about two blocks away from a sewer plant. A lot of talented actors in the first movie too.

This trailer looks great. The first movie had a great cast but since it was made for tv as a mini-series I feel like they really ended up toning it down a lot and ended up making kind of choppy. It was just not a good movie which was a shame since it is such a great book.

Never read the book but I saw the old movie. It was pretty bad but definitely seem like there was potential in the ideas were they to be done better. Looks like this might be just that. I'm optimistic/intrigued.

The book is fucking nuts. Like most Stephen King books are, really. There is a lot of bizarre shit, basically, that could be cut from the books to shorten the film, but there's still a lot in there to justify a two-parter. I suppose narratively they decided splitting it that way rather than having a flashback set-up made sense.

It is 20 years since I've read the book come to think of it, I should probably refresh myself but Stephen King books really are the sort of thing best read as a dickhead teenager.

King has a real knack for filling his books with "What the fucks" solely for the sake of "What the fucks" but usually has a very good story underneath that may or may not have an ending that he figured out the day before his publishing deadline.

Unlike a lot of people that are found in the comments sections of the World Wide Web, I'm gonna actually watch the movie before declaring it a total abomination. To be honest-- I don't believe that a movie/TV mini-series can be made that will come even close to touching the sheer brilliance of the book.

Tim Curry's performance as Pennywise can never be topped, IMO.

the only thing that irks me, is that there are so many people(horror sites as well) that have already declared it the best horror movie to come along in years based off of a 2-minute clip.

    get a fucking grip.

I didn't care for the tail end of the clip where Pennywise emerges from the water and darts toward the kid while doing that shitty head shaking thing that's been prevalent in the majority of 'Insidious'- type paranormal/horror movies since the early '00's.

jump scares are lazy and played-out.

I will say that catching a glimpse of 'The Leper' in the trailer did give me a ray of hope.

    Nifty trailer..

Not sold on the design of Pennywise here. Tim Curry in the original was so iconic. He was basically the classic non-threatening clown look, but with something not quite right, and then when various monstrous qualities came out, they were shocking as hell (teeth). I later noticed the blood red eyes, even in his normal form...not quite human...awesome.

But this new Pennywise- he already looks like some demonic otherworldly creature that just happens to resemble a clown a bit..they could have went more subtle.

Indeed it does. Horror's come a long way, but has still kindof gone the way of the dodo as far as actually scaring people. I feel like when most people think of horror, they think of fun... jump scares... and nothing outside of that. This looks like it can be actually scary.

Jump scares are usually cheap. Hopefully this film doesn't rely on them too much. This trailer has a few of them, but it's not exactly easy to instill a sense of dread in such a short amount of time. Anyway, I'm impressed by the look of what I've seen so far.

I have to say I am disappointed by that trailer. The original Pennywise design was way creepier too.

There's a Tim Curry Pennywise Easter egg in the trailer.

I'm going to see this. But it still doesn't scare me. Or get me prepared to be scared. Maybe cuz my mom had me watching horror since I was little, it just doesn't look scary at all. Unless you have a clown phobia.

I do like the little original Pennywise clown doll though. At least they're giving a nod to Tim in a way.

I watched it myself about a month ago. It has not aged well. At all.

Tim Curry's performance is still wonderful though.

Aye he is great but everything else about it is pretty rubbish tbh.

I love the look of this new trailer, that balloon popping up in the car. JESUS!!!!!!!!!!

My main issue is that at least from everything we've seen, there appears to be no "nice" form of IT...
Like, the clown is supposed to be a lure, which goes against their design...

Both of these are creepy and really off, but one of them is a much better trap than the other, while the other is just... trying too hard to be scary in every single frame...

The 80s TV Movie was never really good. The reviews and ratings for it were pretty bad at the time from what I recall. It doesn't surprise me at all that it doesn't watch well now we're all adults. Curry put in a really iconic performance that resonated with the fear of clowns and spiders and things that lurk in the dark that kids have.

I re-read the book last year. That still stands up at least.

I'd say while the remake's frame is definitely trying to be more creepy, it makes much more sense in the context of what's happening. In the original, Penny's more cheerful and the kid is stupidly naive and more than happy to meet him. In this version, the kid is showing a lot of reticence when Penny pops up. I don't care if Mickey Mouse came up to me from a sewer drain, I'd be scared shitless.

Yeah, Curry's Pennywise was a clown, who maybe was slightly unsettling (I think its the eyes), but could draw in a kid.

The new Pennywise looks like a freaking demon that maybe somewhat resembles a clown. I don't see how anyone would trust that creature.

to be honest, any kid who is by themself and sees a clown in a sewer on a dark rainy day and still goes up to him without thinkin twice deserves to be abducted because they are going to be a weak link in society

with that said, I agree that I wish they made penny wise more friendly looking and less like the typical Insidious demon

That projector scene is a long time coming. I'm hoping this whole deal gets closer to the book. There is a better movie there.

Technically Curry's Pennywise was a demon masquerading as a clown.

Probably not until Wednesday or Thursday. Surprised there are no critic reviews yet. Did this not get a premiere or early screening?

It was the original IT and Killer Klowns from Outer Space that instilled me with a deep, deep phobia of clowns.

I did not know this. That makes sense though.

I read the book again last year. I think the best format for it would be a 12-part TV series. I was tempted to etch out a screenplay for it, mainly for my own benefit as it's something I'm interested in.

It does seem like it would have been ripe for a Netflix ting. So many potential avenues to explore - the origin story for Derry, back stories for all the kids, exploring in more detail the monster itself going back through history. I always thought from the original movie that the story was interesting even without the monster...all these dysfunctional kids in a town where adults are either invisible, useless or harmful, the otherwise fun lives of the Loser's Club (all the bike stuff, going to the movies, building dams etc), the idea that the town itself is constantly in danger of flooding and with a barely-functioning infrastructure...there's just tons of stuff to look into. That's just from the first half of the story, too.

Yeah, there's so much in the books that a film focusing on Pennywise and the kids will never do justice to the rest of the World that King created. As an example there's a chapter in the book about two kids whose step-father gets arrested for their murder when actually the Clown killed one and caused the death of the other which would make a great hour of TV. Plus there's all the stories from the previous 27 year cycles, like the explosion at the ironworks, the bloody shoot-out of a gang by the local police including one wearing a clown outfit, the lumberjack who walked into a bar and put an axe through some guys face, the gay guys at the start who get set-upon.

Derry is the main character in that book really.

Wearing clown costumes to scare people was a fad this time last year iirc. Unrelated to Pennywise I'm pretty sure.

Off to see this after work tonight. I'm the same as darkhorse, I haven't seen the mini-series or read the book, so the story is completely new to me. Apart from probably all the spoofs and rip-offs, I've seen over the years.

Doing an IT, Lucky Logan and Wind River marathon today.

Looking forward to them all. Planning to try and catch Limehouse Golem as well possibly.

Been a fine few weeks for big releases by the looks of things.

I caught a trailer for Limehouse Golem the other day, going to try and get to that one looks like a really good cast and Jane Goldman has been passionate about it for years.

I didn't really enjoy this film, just seemed bleh to me. Perhaps I got caught up in the hype and thought it was going to be way better

Jane Goldman is on quite the run as a script writer IMO. I think LG sounds like a period slasher whodunit and that sounds extremely appealing. I'm looking forward to it.

Totally agree, imagine being told that the mad bird married to Wossy that made shitty reality docs about ghosts would be one of the best screenwriters around...
