Can any of you fine folks enlighten me as to when the jump scares occur? As I've said before, I am a tremendous pussy.

I liked it, but the mini-series format really works with such long books, every character could have done with more time.

It's already been announced for 2019, I believe. I think the director said he'd like to do a flashback to the kids if they haven't aged too much.

It's doing the business at the box office by the looks of it as well, so no reason not to go ahead. Do we know the casting of that yet?

Yeah good movie. I was going to go to an 8pm show on Saturday. We got there around 7:20 and the 8pm AND 9pm shows were sold out. We then ordered 9pm tickets online for another theater nearby. We got there around 8:30 and there wasn't a single seat left in the theater. Not sure how that's possible. Anyway, we got the theater to give us tickets to the 9:30 show.

I never had any issues with a big movie before. I was able to get tickets to Dark Knight, LOTR, Hunger Games, any Marvel movie without this much hassle. Maybe smaller theaters? It seemed odd.

The theaters by me have assigned seating, which probably helps cure the overflow problem.

I pretty much always have assigned seating now -unless I'm seeing a 70mm film at a small theater- and I love it. No need to get there early, stand in a line and worry about finding a decent seat. Makes the process so much smoother.

I agree with Fro, but I used to be like The Beer Monster, I thought assigned seating was a bad idea. But it's great.

My daughter and her friends are watching this right now. I am interested in watching it but probably wait until it is out on blu ray. I am hearing good things about it so far and it is doing great at the box office.

More and more theaters around here are going to assigned seating with the recliner chairs and such. I have not watched a movie yet in one of those theaters but my daughter has so now if she is going with friends one of them goes online and buys all the tickets at once to make sure they are all together and then everyone pays that person when they get there.

Watched it yesterday and absolutely loved it.

The mini-series is what got me hooked on Stephen King, so I went in apprehensively, but came out thinking it's a damn good horror movie.

It was true to the book, but strayed where it made the movie better.

The actors were all excellent, and Tim Curry is a hard act to top, but Bill Skarsgard probably did as good of a portrayal as Pennywise as Curry did, definitely a scarier one.

I do highly suggest it for fans of horror, Stephen King, or that one person who doesn't pay attention and thinks "Hey, it's got a clown in it, let's take the kids to see it."

Saw this and enjoyed it thoroughly. I don't know how anybody falls for jump scares anymore though, they are very predictable. If the screen is dark and the music stops abruptly, get ready for a jump scare.

I saw the movie Thursday and thought it was excellent. I essentially agree with you about the jump scares. The music cues generally tip you off as to when they're coming.

Jump scares are always signposted in horror these days, sadly thats just how it is.

However, I feel IT did more than just jump scares. The projector scene and the broken arm scene were fucking amazing.

The only real fault i can find with IT is the lack of time to develop backstories for the kids but I can deal with that.

A few of the jump scares weren't signposted.

I agree about the lack of backstory for some of the kids. In particular, Mike seemed a little underdeveloped. I though they did the best with what they had, though.

I was perfectly content with the character development and backstories of the kids/parents. I have never read the book and I don't remember the original miniseries so I'm coming at this from a different angle than most, but I would rather them make the movie they made (which was excellent and ran a fast paced 2 hours 15 minutes) rather than make it too long or turn this into a trilogy or tv series.

And I agree with what you just said about the jump scares, BB. There were some very good ones.

That's a good point. The Director's Cut apparently has 15 minutes of extra footage that includes a pretty major scene featuring that character.

All of the adults in the film are... off... and I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be implied that they are all under Pennywise's control.

It'll be interesting to see who they cast for the sequel. Given how successful this movie is, I'd expect the sequel to get a big budget and some well-known actors. The only name I've seen floated so far is Jessica Chastain as Beverly (pic below). I'm sure she'd be fine but I'm rooting for Amy Adams.

The actress that played Bev mentioned that Jessica Chastain is her pick. I agree with you about Amy Adams. That's perfect casting, in my opinion.

Saw this today with the wife for her birthday. Pretty good stuff. I have seen the miniseries a few years back and was not particularly impressed apart from a few scenes and Curry's portrayal. Thought this was much more effective. Agree with those saying some of the characters could use more background. I am assuming the love triangle will be significant in the sequel? Can't remember if that was a thing in the old one? Wasn't real keen with how it played out unless it's cause for friction between the adults down the road.

I don't think it played a huge role in the book or miniseries (love triangle). I could be wrong though.

If trailer making is an art, that was the Mona Lisa. Fudging hell, that looks brilliant.

Not normally a horror fan, but I loved the First Movie. Really looking forward to Bill Hader and all the adult Loser Club members.

idk I mean I think the best trailers get you hyped without revealing too much. this one revealed basically an entire scene (and then didn't reveal too much about any of the other scenes). so I wouldn't say it's a mona lisa because that scene is pretty much spoiled for us now (and it seems like it would have been a cool scene not to have spoiled).

They did the same thing for IT Chapter 1 with the sewer scene.

I hadn't seen any trailers for IT before watching it, I don't plan to see this trailer either because I will be seeing IT Chapter 2 on opening day either way.

That whole scene is basically the most horrifying thing in the book to me. Although it looks like they've gone a different way with it.

Definitely giving away too much in the trailer.

I'm taking the route of not watching the trailer. The first trailer already gave away one scene for me. Gonna go in as fresh as I can.

All films from now on must make a separate 2 minute short that lets me know their film exists while giving away none of the plot or scenes from the actual film. Much better than spoilery trailers. Make it so Hollywood.

Don't blame you there but all I can think about is Frank Costanza yelling "I like to go in fresh" when someone started spoiling a movie to him.

I was watching a top ten video of films that the trailer spoiled, and I'm like how on Earth could a studio allow this?

They should just have teasers that let you know of the films existence and atmosphere but nothing else.

Seems like no one in here commented on Chapter 2, unless we discussed it elsewhere (likely so). Anyway I just watched it and I thought it was good. Not great but good. Keep in mind I've never read the book (nor do I particularly remember the old mini series) so I don't know what was changed...

The movie seemed like a lot of plot devices to set up various set pieces, but for the most part the set pieces were good so I was okay with it. I'm talking mainly about the kids getting additional solo scares in the summer following Chapter 1. They would set up the kid scare and then tie it into the adult going back to that same place to get their token. This was fairly silly plot-wise but the child cast of Chapter 1 was so good that I'm okay with shoehorning them into Chapter 2 like they did. It would have been a little dull if they didn't include the kids here. Having said that, the adult cast was very good, especially Bill Hader and James Ransone as Eddie (didn't realize until just now looking it up that it's Ziggy from The Wire).

The scares were clearly not as scary as Chapter 1, in fact it wasn't particularly scary in general but that's okay to me. The Pennywise scenes were generally tense and creepy without trying to get super cheap scares. The end battle was good.

I didn't quite get the part about Richie and Eddie being gay for each other but it was fine.

Overall a solid sequel. I score it a 7/10. The first one was a 9.

It was too long to me. Good...but probably could have shaved a good 20-30 minutes off that piece and been just as fine or better.

I was fine with the runtime which seemed to be a complaint for a lot of people. 2 hours 45 minutes is long for our attention span these days and that's why maybe it would be better off as a miniseries but I didn’t feel it dragged. And from what I know about the book, there is a buttload they couldn’t even fit in.

I loved it. Not as much as the first one but I can see why they made so many changes from the book. Some of that stuff is just unfilmable

The kid stuff did feel shoehorned in there but it was also neccessary to showcase who was who for anyone who might not have remembered the first one.

This story is looong and and it was always going to need two movies. I just wish they could have gotten both pics green lit from the get go so that they could have filmed them back to back and had the story play out as it should. Which is cutting back and forth between the adults and the kids. The story flows so much better that way in both the book and the mini series. But they didn't know if it was going to be a hit and didn't want to finance both at once so they had to do it the way they did it.

As it stands it's a really fun couple of movies.

And yeah Ritchie can be gay. He was the only one without a significant other in the book and never makes mention of his love life. I can see where King may have even wanted that character to be gay but it was the 80s.

I like it more than I do part 2 of the miniseries. It is a bit too long though. It drags on in a couple places. I hope they expand on the IT story with a couple spinoff movies, and maybe a sequel eventually.
