We all loved Flash being played as ADHD/ASD and my lad though it was amazing to see someone clearly on the spectrum portrayed as a hero.

Aquaman was fine, I wasnít sure going in but he was pretty well used and won me over.

Gadot is perfect, as are her leather trousers.

Cavill gets better as the Boy Scout each time he plays the role.

I quite liked Cyborg, he suffered from the number of heroís more than any of the others as he did get the rush job, but I think there was enough there to get him across.

The last credit scene made me really happy.
Just saw it tonight. All of this
I hope DC is on the right track. This was far from a great film, even by comic book standards, but I enjoyed myself at the theater. This has been an excellent year for Comic book movies, and I wonder if next year can hold up. Maybe we'll get the "Comic book movies are oversaturated" narrative a few years ago.

At times Hollywood goes into panic mode and tries to reinvent the wheel, sometimes all you need is a wheel.
    Agreed.

They actually picked the right story and adapted it fairly well with the animated film Superman vs. the Elite.

"What's so funny about Truth, Justice, and the American Way" still works. Hell, the Superman from every successful Justice League animated show still works.

Totally agree. Show him resolving down-to-earth conflicts. The well worn plot of stopping apocalyptic aliens from destroying earth should come later.

    Yes!

One of my favourite Superman films, Public Enemies would work as well and you could have some marvellous cluster f@ck action sequences that they seem to love!

    Went to see this today.

It was not as bad as i thought it would be but that still doesnt mean I thought it was any good.

I felt the dialogue was pretty shocking and the "humor" fell extremely flat and was often mistimed. The scene where they were trying to come up with a plan was one of the worst of the year for me.

I've moaned about it before but I am absolutely bored to tears with the supersized CGI bad guy and this was really no different. Some of the other CGI in the film seemed to be a bit off as well.

There really wasnt a subplot throughout the film which seemed to throw the pacing off at times.

I liked that Flash and Cyborg made mistakes cause they were new to this and felt both characters worked well in this setting. I see them as a hawkeye/black widow to the series as I have zero interest in seeing them in a stand alone.

On the whole I'd say this was a touch better than BvsS.

Categorically disliking something because it's popular is asinine.

The new IT shat on the 80's version from a stupendous height.

Tim Curry's performance is amazing in the original film but everything else is massively dated.

I dont think its too much of a surprise it out performed Thor or this. The marketing was excellent for IT.

This was better than Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad, which isn't high praise. I was cringing at the mobile phone footage and the song at the beginning. When the heroes were all together, I thought some of it worked ok. It showed me what a huge mistake it was to not follow the Marvel formula or at least a different one. There was a ton of set-up and constant switching back and forth between characters. I distinctly remember wishing the movie would hurry up when Diana was meeting with Cyborg.

Gadot did a good job again. Not quite sold on her super-speed power, though I might feel differently if it didn't look like a cartoon. I found some of Affleck's quipping very jarring, but he was more likeable when interacting with Gadot. Miller just isn't for me, but I can see why he'd be popular with kids and I liked the fact that he was shitting himself instead of instantly being capable of battle. Fisher didn't get a lot to do, but wasn't as bad I thought. Momoa was actually a disappointment, but again didn't have much to work with and didn't have as much screentime as I expected after being such a focus of the trailers. Having Cavill out of the film for so long was poor and I thought his initial maniacal rage at Batman and close-up shot of his face was hilariously bad. The way he and Cyborg reacted at the end of the finale just didn't feel earned, considering the lack of action and stakes in the film.

Steppenwolf was so so bad. Why not just have a regular guy in a suit instead of Scorpion King level CGI twatting the heroes around? And why have him fight like a Sega Mega Drive video game character, constantly jumping up and slamming his axe on the ground? I was astonished by the lack of threat. Yes you never think a villain in a superhero movie is going to actually succeed, but their defeat should never be this obvious. The way he's treated by Superman in the end almost seemed like contempt from the film-makers; especially after the recent criticism of Whedon liking a tweet about him being a terrible villain. I'm not sure how it gets any better if it was Darkseid in that role and it almost made me worry about Thanos next year. But then I think of the way Thor vs Hulk was handled in Ragnarok (and even Iron Man vs Hulk from AOU) and I have faith in how Marvel uses CGI to good effect.

I would say this is the effect of people sitting through Batman v. Superman. A lot of people are going to check the reviews first...

I think if this came out in the early 2000s before the market was saturated by better options, and wasn't attached to Batman v. Superman and Man of Steel, it would have been received better...

It feels like an early 2000s superhero movie...

The more I think about it, the more I find plot holes, but I just don't care. I guess if they release the deleted scenes, we see Darkseid.

Watched this for the 2nd time tonight and I must say I enjoyed it much more this time around. Some of the comedy bits were still terrible but seeing a happy superman still really just feels good.

I also am now looking forward to the flash movie. I think it will be telling on what direction they are going to take.

Saw this last night. Turned it on expecting it to be awful and I quite enjoyed it. Definitely the best of the modern DC films for me.

Amazon just sent the notification that this has arrived and either tonight or tomorrow night I will be watching this movie. Just finished the new Thor. I'll be 100% honest, I think it was gassed up so much that my expectations were off the charts and I didn't think it was this incredible Marvel movie. Best Thor movie? I'd get down with that. But one of the best overall Marvel films? I'd say maybe somewhere in the middle. Better than Spider Man 3 but not up there with the personal elites like Deadpool, X-2, Logan, Civil War, etc.

I watched Wonder Woman. It was good, probably as good as the average Marvel movie which is a huge step-up for DC. Gal Gadot is nice to look at and sufficiently charming.

I finally watched Justice League and thought it was good. It easily surpassed my expectations which were pretty low. If I were to compare it to Marvel films, it's certainly a couple tiers below the high standard they've now reached but it would be up there with the mid to low end Marvel flicks. I like all the characters - Superman being the least likable so I was totally fine with him only coming out at the end and letting the other 5 shine for the majority of the film. They have good chemistry, some good witty banter. Gadot we already knew was a star, but Flash really shined here. I thought his Justin Long style comedy landed pretty consistently to balance out the film. Aquaman and Cyborg were good too.

This movie makes me wish they did DCEU better. I wish BvS was better, I wish they then gave Flash and Aquaman solo films BEFORE Justice League (maybe even Cyborg too) so that this film was as epic as it should have been. The did well with the casting, but the execution was botched so hard.

Regardless, I liked this movie. My rankings of the enjoyability of the Justice League film characters based on all of the films released so far:

    1. Wonder Woman
    2. Flash
    3. Aquaman
    4. Cyborg
    5. Batman
    6. Superman

Spot on with the bold, especially the part about the other 3 getting stand alone films before the JL movie. I liked how they introduced Cyborg in this movie though so maybe he didn't need one. I just read the Flash movie is looking to be released in 2021 with filming starting late 2019 due to the guy who plays him having big parts in other movies. That movie I think has been snake bitten since the 80's lol.

Definitely intrigued about this. Itís now a 4 hour miniseries with TV style cliffhangers for the episodes.

I love that Snyder's really hyping this up, and taking shots at people. Like he didn't make the previous movies.

That said, I will probably end up watching once the whole way through and bits and pieces on multiple occasions .....and using it in later references.

Snyder has said that he’s never watched the Whedon version and yet he seems very vexed about the choices made, the kid friendly tone and how he’d rather destroy all the footage than use anything Whedon shot.

I find it all really fascinating. What was Whedon’s thinking behind what he did and didn’t use from Snyder’s footage and what did the studio think of this at the time? How much of what Snyder does now aligns with his vision of the film before he stepped aside and how much has resulted from his subsequent ruminations and the backlash to Whedon’s film?

I’m really interested in movies that were fundamentally changed by a shift in director or went through creative turbulence. Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man. Lord and Miller’s Solo. You could have a whole documentary series on Alien 3 or JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson almost gleefully leaving huge narrative landmines for each other.

Its an interesting consideration. I do think that it seems like a lot of the changes seem to be in response to reception.

Which is ok in my book. I guess you don't need to ignore it.

I don't have a ton of interest in this because the original movie stunk but it worked for The Hateful Eight. The extended 4-part miniseries that Tarantino cut for Netflix is wonderful, and I enjoyed it noticeably more than the 3-hour cinematic version of the movie. I am so hoping that he does the same thing with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Justice League is a different circumstance of course but I could see it similarly benefiting from being elongated and cut into 4 episodes, even aside from the whole Snyder vs Whedon angle.

3+ hour movies are hard to sit through in this day and age (maybe they always were lol). These kind of epic movies are better suited as short miniseries you can watch at home. So I like this trend, if it continues. Scorsese should have done it with The Irishman.

Long but fascinating read in Vanity Fair about the making of Justice League and the Snyder Cut becoming reality.

    https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood...gue-snyder-cut

Interesting how Warners wanted to release the four hour raw cut with no effects or music. Who on earth would want to watch that? Could have been a spectacular own goal. Iím so interested in this, despite not being a big fan of Snyderís vision. There are more things in Batman vs Superman that bother me, but Justice League is a real mess tonally and a damp squib. Whether you love or hate BvS, at least it elicits discussion and gets an emotional reaction. I think this will do the same. He seemingly had carte blanche to do what he wants, so why being in Jared Letoís Joker rather than do his own take on the character? Is the supposed hero cameo in the finale, assuming itís a character that wasnít in the original film, always planned or a way of saying thank you to a fan base that has stuck with him? Thereís just a million questions which make it so intriguing. I hope heís doing a commentary or an in-depth making-of documentary.

Interesting how Warners wanted to release the four hour raw cut with no effects or music. Who on earth would want to watch that? Could have been a spectacular own goal. I’m so interested in this, despite not being a big fan of Snyder’s vision. There are more things in Batman vs Superman that bother me, but Justice League is a real mess tonally and a damp squib. Whether you love or hate BvS, at least it elicits discussion and gets an emotional reaction. I think this will do the same. He seemingly had carte blanche to do what he wants, so why being in Jared Leto’s Joker rather than do his own take on the character? Is the supposed hero cameo in the finale, assuming it’s a character that wasn’t in the original film, always planned or a way of saying thank you to a fan base that has stuck with him? There’s just a million questions which make it so intriguing. I hope he’s doing a commentary or an in-depth making-of documentary.
I do too because I have a feeling the extra what, $70 mill that was added meant that some of these ideas were simply ideas that were not going to be in the movie.

I know we'll have 2 camps. Those of us who like it and those of us who will be like, we waited forever for this? I have no doubt I'm going to dig it.

Okay, that article made me more interested in the 4 hour cut than I was before.

WB is rebooting Superman again and JJ Abrams is involved, which means it will just be more of the same shit we've seen.

JJ's producing, but Bad Robot is just cardboard pretty lights at this point. Coates writing the script has me pretty skeptical as well, his style comes off as way too preachy. He likes to write super heroes not being the super heroes they are or even want to be and tends to focus more on others doing the job for them.

Well, the upside is that nowhere in Superman mythology does it say that Kryptonians were a specific shade of flesh.

I remember when people were butthurt about Black Human Tornado. "How can they be related to Sue Storm??" Bitch haven't you heard of adoption? LOL.

I guess for me I go back to the 60's Batman. 3 different women played Catwoman and 1 was black and she was the best of all time. Black Superman, sign me up. Black people live in Kansas too trust me I know.

yea. I mean I don't know if I'll be into it either way (JJ Abrams' involvement is not appealing to me anymore) but certainly a minority Superman is more interesting than just another normal white Superman reboot, which I would have exactly zero interest in.

Personally I don't think it needs to be a factor at all. I don't want someone to seek out BLACK SUPERMAN. Just put more black comic book characters out there. Push Black Lightning more, that is the best super hero show on tv, possibly of all time.

Now, if a black man comes in and is everything they want but he just so happens to be black....cool. I'm just not someone who sat around reading Superman comics going "Man I wish he was black" Nope. Then again by the time I was reading comics (7-8 years old) we had quite a few black comic book characters. Blade, Powerman, Black Panther, Cyborg, dude I even had Black Punisher.

That's what I like about Miles Morales. It's not Black Peter Parker, it's his own shit. As someone who if half black, simply splashing some darker skin tone on a character doesn't really mean much. Just like making Blade a white guy doesn't mean shit to me lol.

It would be a total bait and switch but I would laugh my ass off if it was three hours of his commentary on the whole fiasco, then sixty minutes of footage.

Those other movies were actually good in full though and made better by cutting it down in 4 episodes potentially. Justice League was not and they are adding another 1.5 hours or whatever to it. Justice League just seems like a giant mess right now. I can't even keep up with what they are trying to do.

If you want to watch I can provide a link. Just lube up that dm baby and I'll slide right in.

I'm watching it now. Definitely better than the 1st so far. A little over halfway thru.

So much better. It will be interesting to see where flash takes us.

That rendition of hallelujah at the the end is fucking tedious.

I think that's where you've seen the most successful character launches vs. rebrands.

Miss Marvel is a great example of a character that was grew organically.

If you remove Peter Parker, for any character, someone like me isn't going to like it. That's my favorite character, and the one I grew up reading. If you replace him with anyone, I' typically going to have an initial reaction. Even when they made Ock/Spidey. Having Miles stand independent from Peter. Great. You can make him more powerful (powerset wise he is).

I think the last few years they've figured more out with expansion vs. either/ or thinking.

The only people I trust with opinions on comic book movies said this is worth checking out and the 4 hours fly by. HBO Max is worth it in general but I'll be watching this movie tonight. Wish me luck.

I feel like these companies don't want to take too many risks with characters so they try to contain it with the putting out movies centered around the top 10 characters over the last 45 years in comics. Even Guardians originally came out in the late 60's early 70's (cancelled 3 different times as well).

But when they did the Netflix stuff with Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jones-that was dope. You were barely getting any of those characters in the movies as it was and this helped open up other characters be included in their shows.

I think Marvel started finally understanding how to make this all work by taking elements from DC's tv shows and their animated stuff. They weren't going to out-grime the Nolan Batman stuff but they definitely hit a homerun doing what DC has done on CW since Smallville and the animated stuff with the multiple characters that aren't as well known, and incorporating that into their model.

Yes. Then you can go back and watch the original release to see what was added, changed, and untouched.

Someone I know said he's not watching it because all he heard was that it was a similar movie with added stuff and different scenes here and there...I'm like dude.....that's exactly why you should watch it lol. It'd be one thing if it was "They changed Superman's costume to have the underwear on the outside". The original release was under 3 hours, this is at least 4, there's shit to check out.

There are many major plot elements that are entirely different.

The fleshing out of cyborg and flash made a ton of difference.

I own Justice League and rewatched it the other night. I don't have HBOMax. Once I get out of my storage unit and cut that bill out I am going to look into adding more streaming like HBOMax and Paramount. I switched to Peacock since that is just replacing my WWE subscription. I really want to watch this though and I have heard good things about it so far.

This whole thing reminds me of the Rogue cut of X-Men's Days of Future Past. That was like 20-30 minutes they cut out and when you watch it you're like damn, I would've stayed for that extra 20-30. But most people aren't mega fans of these movies like I am so I get it. Most get sucked into the fandom for that brief 2 hours or whatever and they leave the theater not giving 2 fucks if Wolverine was way too tall in the movies lol.

Yeah I am on board with longer movies it if helps make the movie better. I know that they want to keep movies to certain lengths but I think when it comes to a lot of movies like the comicbook stuff the fans that really dig the movies and comic book fans coming to watch will watch longer movies. That being said I don't think I can get my wife to sit through 4 hours of Snyder's cut. She liked Justice League but this may be a struggle. She would probably play on her phone half the time. lol There is a reason I am the one that loves to go to the theaters and pay for overpriced popcorn, soda, and candy.

My wife is being a sport. Watching but definitely playing on her phone.

A really good movie. Some parts felt very odd but the 1 thing that this movie had that the original didn't and that was an explanation as to what awakened those boxes.

Yep. To the comic fans we like to see the detailed explanations and pages brought to life. But this is why Stephen King movies aren't 8 hours long because to truly flesh that shit out you need more than 2 hours. That's what part 2's are for lol.

One great thing is that in the streaming world, stories that are better told in longer format don't need to be rushed.

Interested to see if DC and Marvel can strike the right balance in accessibility moving back and forth between formats.

The funny thing is, most of these movies are not based on 1 single comic book story. The 320 MCU movies were a combination of 3-4 of the biggest stories in Marvel history and they burnt it up like it was the Attitude Era.

I think DC and Marvel have found the right balance because they don't just have movies. The tv shows on the DC side are incredible and Marvel isn't too bad they just have weird shit for tv shows outside of the Netflix/Disney stuff.

    Agreed on the outisde netflix/disney.

I enjoyed Civil War fine as a movie, but curious to see how it contrasts with something like Secret Invasion.

Curious if DC would be willing to commit something big like Public Enemies or Dark Knight Returns to more long-form.

If we're being critical about the gap between the comics and the movies then we just have to acknowledge that without the availability of every character to work with, you can't replicate Civil War, Infinity Wars, etc. No X-Men, no Fantastic Four, the way they did Ultron was totally different.

So I try to be open minded just like when I pick up a graphic novel or a new take on Batman. It's only when they do ridiculous shit like Iron Man 3 (Mandarin) or slack off so hard on a presentation it makes you want to kill someone (the last X-Men movie).

The problem is when they try to connect everything, it's hard to change direction in a positive if new properties are acquired that you should've been using from the start. That's when it becomes a crapshoot because you now have to incorporate characters that you didn't have where you might've altered a story that boxes you in.

DC is kind of all over the place and now that everyone expects the DCU to be like the MCU, they're going to have to figure out a healthy balance. The animated stuff, the CW shows, and several of the movies they've done in this cinematic universe are reallllly good they just have to figure out how to keep the momentum going upwards.

Color me surprised, but I actually really enjoyed this.

Dark Knight returns done as an hour long tv drama like Daredevil on Netflix would be incredible.

I really enjoyed the animated adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns. Animation isn't everyone's cup of tea, though.

Anyway, the Snyder Cut was pretty good. There's probably a good 3 hour edit somewhere in there.

lol. "Release the shortened Snyder Cut!!"

Good luck finding it. This wasn't even his original release, 70 million later he has a 4 hour "vision".
