I have always been surprised that other cities don't try to make this happen. Most owners wouldn't sell their franchise to the fans but it feels like there are still a couple that would (Rooney and the Steelers; Mara and the Giants; Kohl and the Bucks; Illitch (before he died) and the Red Wings?). They would become instant legends to all sports fans for actually valuing the fans instead of just money. Would be a great legacy for an owner.

No league would approve a sale like that now.

Even a better reason for an owner to at least say they want to consider/look into it and then come back and say that the league says it can't happen.

The NFL is a leftist commie organization, according to my racist uncle, so of course they want teams to be owned by the fans.

There's already a rule in place against a community-owned franchise. So nothing left to look into.

So all they really have to do for the good free publicity is make a statement saying they will be trying to change the rule at the next owner's meeting. Then let the rest of the owners be the bad guy.

The trade off is MASSIVE in comparison.

Simple modification. If its an obvious helmet to helmet hit, even if its unintentional. You eject that player for the whole game. Each team loses a player. In the case of Jenkins and Cooks. He lead with mostly his shoulder, but you could call it either way.
I do think they should follow the college format and review it. But the Jenkins hit didn't look like targeting to me. Helmet to helmet maybe but not targeting. he didn't even leave his feet and Cooks didn't see him coming.

I hate the college rule. Helmet to helmet hits happen. They are flagged. We move on. No one is out there trying to hit someone in the head and knock them out of the game.

I think I have said this before that I would go with Arizona. They were the first time to leave St. Louis and I have always had a soft spot for them because of that.

The college rule needs work too. But I don't mind reviewing it for egregious type hits. That Gronk hit on White after the whistle should be an ejection, for example.

I said it would need work but wouldn't mind reviewing egregious hits. That includes certain helmet to helmet hits. The issue is, it's all subjective and would be pretty bad to eject a guy on a close call.

Apologies in advance if this technically belongs in the politics thread, but seeing as how it pertains to an NFL player and owner, I thought it was equally or more relevant here.

Donald Trump tweets: "So disgraceful that a person illegally in our country killed @Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson. This is just one of many such preventable tragedies. We must get Dems to get tough on the Border, and with illegal immigration, FAST!

Such a disgraceful statement. The owner of the team for whom Edwin Jackson played for (Jim Irsay; Colts) was arrested and charged for a DUI and couldn't even stand up on his own two feet when pulled over. Luck (not Andrew) is the only reason no one died in that scenario.

This is what I was abhorring yesterday. That dumbass killed Edwin Jackson because he was drunk driving and should be punished to the full extent of the law. But being an illegal immigrant is not what made him drunk drive, and as Jim Irsay can attest, drunk driving is not exclusive to illegal immigrants.

I mean he's not wrong. It was absolutely preventable....because the guy was hammered and driving. Doesn't matter if he's an American citizen, an immigrant with a green card, or an illegal alien. Dude was drunk and shouldn't have been driving.

I know the stat you're referring to but UMass Amherst is about 2 hours west of Boston. It's a party school in the middle of nowhere and yes they go hard with their riots on campus.

McShay's mock 2.0 for anyone interested.

(spoilered because it's enormous containing an explanation for each pick)

Mayfield at 5 to Denver is interesting, at least.
Like seeing Ward climbing up as he's terrific in man coverage and going to be a monster covering the slot.
Miami should be thrilled to land imo the best, though not so sexy, player in this draft.
Derwin James as a more athletic Kam Chancellor for Gus Bradley is just great.
Rashaan Evans is a steal for Buffalo here as my pick for best LB in this draft.

    @AdamSchefter:
Stunner: Patriots’ OC Josh McDaniels has decided NOT to accept Colts’ HC job and will remain with New England, sources told ESPN.

Wow. This is very shocking given that the Colts already announced it. I'm happy and think this is mainly about the Colts being a (currently) garbage team with a franchise QB whose future is uncertain due to injury, and that McDaniels wants to go to a winner right away so he doesn't blow his second head coaching gig and maybe never get a third chance... but also somewhat concerned that this means Belichick could be close to the end and McDaniels knows it. I dunno. Weird turn of events. As long as Belichick doesn't retire I'm all for fucking the Colts over like this and making them look foolish.

McDaniels has to be next in line for the Pats job. Not sure he will get many offers after this.

With Luck just about to start throwing, I'd say we are closer to Bill being gone. Not for another year, but I could see them grooming Josh to take over

I love the move, very classy to stay with the team that made you who you were rather than jump ship to the team that started deflategate.

He's a douche. He'd better hope he succeeds, otherwise I don't know if anyone else would give him a shot at being their head coach

I hope no one does. I have my fingers crossed that Belichick coaches another 5 years and it would be nice to have Josh as OC for the duration.

But I think people are being a little dramatic right now. Yes I think this is a bad look for him, but no I don't think he'll NEVER get another head coaching offer outside of New England. Other teams will just make sure to get his signature before trusting him.

He left them in a horrible spot, so who's to say it won't happen again?

I don't think he'll be a good head coach anyways. Patricia too.

A signed contract would say so. No? Going back on a verbal agreement is bad, I don't deny. But that is the easy answer to how another team would prevent this from happening again.

Belichick's coordinators outside of Nick Saban in college have had a bad run so I'm not going to swear Matt Patricia will be successful but he's a very smart guy by all accounts. I think he'll be good.

McDaniel has always been a scumbag. Has been since his Denver days. He belongs with the scumbag Patriots.

If McDaniels doesn't get the Pats job after Belichick, he's signed his own death warrant in the NFL pulling this move. Who the fuck would want him after pulling this shit? Who the fuck would want to join his coaching staff after he just left these guys out in the cold?

    Shit head move.

Fuck him and fuck the Patriots.

Yeah McDaniels already had somewhat of a bad rep around the league (as a HC candidate at least, he is respected/accomplished as a coordinator).

Not only did he leave these assistants out to dry, but it was initially reported that the main reason he chose to move on to IND was because of his close relationship with GM Chris Ballard.

Owners and GMs will think of this. If he fucked over a friend of his in Chris Ballard and assistants with whom he presumably would have relationships with as well, who is to say how unprofessional he will be with front office execs and owners he does not have a respectable relationship with?

    Here is some prime awkwardness:

    Chris Ballard
    Josh McDaniels
Matt Eberflus (new DC stuck in Indy)

    ...all have the same agent.

Oooh... and McDaniels was allegedly calling assistants THIS MORNING to offer them jobs in Indy! This offseason is off to an entertaining start.

Eagles drafting a defensive tackle doesn’t make sense. LB or offensive line are the top 2 needs. Maybe WR since smith probably isn’t back

Or CB for PHI too. I thought his pick for TEN (Goedert) was a headscratcher too.

Eagles have like 4 young corners. Sidney Jones coming in healthy is like a first round pick right there. If he can live up to his potential he can be their version of Lattimore or White. They need LB depth. Hicks coming back is great but Bradham is a free agent and Hicks is injury prone. Heck, i wouldn't even mind a left tackle or guard there.

Josh McDaniel's agent has terminated their relationship in the wake of this move, and reportedly told McDaniels he was "commiting professional suicide."

He's just viewing the difference between Bryan and the best LB or OL to be too great to pass on. Not that anyone has to agree with that assessment of those players, but if that's how he feels then it's a reasonable line of thinking.

And he’s a god in Philly and will probably never buy a drink again. Might as well hang the helmet up and put on his slippers.
