They were both clear catches and the rule is clear in my opinion. Michaels and Collinsworth sounded like fucking morons and that doesn't help perception of the rule or help the NFL in general when they talk such shite. As Pablo said earlier there does need to be some clearer explicit clarification of when possession is confirmed and they become a runner but it was pretty obvious Ertz travelling many yards with 3 steps and dive (sounds familiar) was.

Quick take on the future. I think its appropriate that the dynasty started with a fumble and could likely end with a fumble.

- Brady is likely back, but with what all those free agents...is the return of Edelman really enough to make up for the potential losses of Amendola, Gronk and Dion Lewis?
- McDaniels potentially leaving Indy high and dry...some sensing this is because Bill is near the end and will likely give the reigns to him...if not McDaniels looks like a big doofus
- Brandon Browner tweeting about how there is a divide in the locker room...I knew this felt like 09 all over again...something felt off about that team
- Too many bargain basement players on defense...granted injuries...but they haven't had a loaded defense since 2014.
Thing is I have doubts the field will get overly better in the AFC but all the turn over in Foxboro could change things.
Philly on the other hand has a tough decision to make. Do you trade Foles? Do you keep him around in case Wentz isn't healthy? He was likely the NFL MVP before he got hurt. The last thing you want is a QB controversy after winning the Superbowl. If Wentz is healthy and falls back to earth, that causes issues. Still the rest of the team is well rounded.

Oh...and the concussion rule. Something should be done to modify how it works. I'm all for preventing a player from coming back into the game for his own health, but its an easy way for a defense to take someone out of the game in exchange for a potential lousy 15 yard penalty. The trade off is MASSIVE in comparison.
Simple modification. If its an obvious helmet to helmet hit, even if its unintentional. You eject that player for the whole game. Each team loses a player. In the case of Jenkins and Cooks. He lead with mostly his shoulder, but you could call it either way.

Not a great night. Lost $100 on the Pats bet, made some back with a $25 win on No OT and $20 on No Safety. Overall it was a very profitable playoffs. I hit on 9 of the 10 I bet against the spread and lost out on the Pats last night on money line. (My other loss was Pats vs Jags.)
Overall I would urge betters to make the No OT and No Safety bet every year. Especially with this year's numbers. Even at the high price it is a profitable wager over time. If you had bet No Safety your profit would be 24 units with 8 against. And that is with the crazy number of 3 in the last 6 games. Overall in a normal game the safety is a 1 in 15 bet so if you only have to lay odds at 1 to 10 do it all day. Normally you will see the safety bet in the Super Bowl around -1200. However with 3 in 6 years a lot of people have been betting safety and pushing that number.
Same theory with OT. It is a profitable number over the long run. Hit those for years on the Super Bowl.

From what I gather the reason for no flag was because he was no longer a defenseless receiver and was a runner, but the defender should get a solid fine for it for the helmet to helmet contact.

I think the Ertz TD was definitely a TD. He took enough steps to become a runner. The Clement touchdown was a little closer but I was fine with that too. It didn't seem like he bobbled so much as transferred it to his elbow while maintaining control.
Whoever said earlier (Pabs I think) that Al Michaels and Chris Collinsworth are idiots who contribute to the public confusion about the catch rule was correct. I think the catch rule is solid it just needs slightly better enforcement and for the announcers not to be overdramatic about it.
Wild that this game had the most yards of any game in NFL history. And Brady threw for 500 yards. Very disappointed in our defense who as usual could not get off the field on 3rd and 4th down. Not sure what to think of Malcolm Butler's benching but I'm not looking at it as some giant error by Belichick, Butler has had a fairly poor year.

Not only did we lose our second NFL team because of the mad dash to get a fucking horrible stadium deal in place that didn't go in front of voters to try to keep them, the voters turned down a sweet deal to build a MLS stadium that would have actually profited the city in the long run. So now I am like double fuck the NFL and Kroenke because I don't have an NFL team or a MLS team. MLS pretty much flat out said if the ownership group can get the stadium built St. Louis would get one of the expansion teams and get to host an all star game within five years.
So yeah the NFL can fuck off.

I am sure at some point I will start watching again. I finally forgave the NHL and MLB for the various work stoppages/strikes that cost us the World Series and Stanley Cup. It took a while each time.
I didn't like the 2:05 because it brings a throw into play but no, the smart play IMO is to keep as much time on the clock as possible and assume you're going to make the stop on Defense.
I didn't like the clock management at the end of the first half. They lost 40 seconds and the chance to get a score by not taking a timeout on first and goal leaving them to try a desperation lateral score.
Cardinals have way more rings than the Cubs and don't have to go 100 years between championships.

But you aren't saving more time for your offense. Your offense loses some of its play viability as well since you really can't throw down the middle and need to throw down the sidelines more.
i definitely was a bandwagoner into the second half of the season once the eagles were established as having a successful year, but i've actually really come to appreciate the game. looking forward to next year's season. the super bowl was a blast.
