Next year, the Dodgers should just leave Kershaw off the playoff roster. A third catcher would give them some more flexibility.

Seems a tad harsh. In his last 21 playoff appearances (2015 to 2019, 107 innings pitched) he has an ERA of 4.11. Clearly that is disappointing given the caliber of pitcher he is, but it's not horrendous.

Worked for the Nats this year with Harper. It could work for LA too!

Yeah it wasn't Max's fault at all for having clunker game 5s or their bullpen blowing the series against the Cards.

As for the Dodgers, horrible decision to bring Kershaw in. I think everyone said this when the inning started. Maeda was pitching lights out. Him and the closer to finish the game would've worked just fine.

I am assuming the Yankees are cheering their asses off for the Rays here. If the Rays win today, then it will be Yanks vs Nats. If the Astros win then they are winning the whole thing. Hopefully Astros vs Cards.
Not guessing it will happen right away. Just that they won't be quite this good for the next few years if they have to choose between Rendon and Strasburg. Couple this with being the oldest team in baseball.

But who knows? In an uncapped league anything can happen. Maybe theyll get better.

Gotta have someone to root for when your team is gone I guess.

Don't think it'll matter, I think the AL champ wins the World Series either way

I now support the Brewers as I picked them as my team in The Show 19 and won the world series. They must be really good right?

Where was this offensive ineptitude during the series with the Braves...excuse me...the Barves?

Happens to the Altanta Barves all the time.

Nats/Astros in a series could be amazing pitching. Like, all time great pitching series potential.

Have Max and Justin ever faced each other? I don't think so.

the Nats are in the World Series and people keep talking about Bryce. I forget the details on what the Nats offered on an extension versus what he got in FA from Philly, but this is a pretty silly point to bring up for 2 reasons:

    1) $330 million dollars > world series appearances
    b) if the Nats re-signed him, that would have had a big effect on what other moves they make, plus the butterfly effect and all that. chances are high they would NOT be in the world series right now.

If I recall correctly Philadelphia was $330 over 13 years. Nats was $300 over 10 years.

Not sure the point in having review when things that should be reviewed can't be reviewed.

And the Nats are already on top.

Because what you want to do is spot Strasburg two runs right off the bat.

    Nice shot by Bregman.

Good thing he isn't Ronald Acuna. He admired his work for half a second. That's a front page write up and a players only meeting if Ronnie does it.

    This shit may be over.

Houston, winners of 157 regular season games, now has to beat the hottest team in baseball for the last two months in 4 out of 5 games.

Far from over. while I hope the Stros win game 3 so it’s a competitive series, I’m pulling for the Nats purely because they’ve never won before and the Astros won recently.

Yeah it's hard not to root for the Nats and they're supposed to be my team's biggest rival.

But they'll have to epicly fuck this up to lose it.

Much like my Braves did against the Yankees when they went to NY took the first two, John Rocker did a wonderfully well received interview and then proceeded to go back to Atlanta and not win another game in the series.

The Stros just seem stuck in first gear on offense right now but that can't last. The Nats have to be worried they'll break out eventually. I think they'll throw the kitchen sink at them in game 3 trying to put it away.

You're right though, game 3 could break the momentum and put the Astros back in it. But they'll have to win another one in Washington. Best bet will be game 4 assuming Verlander pitches game 5. Dude is just cursed in the series.

I love Baseball. Wish my team didn't choke in the divisional round every single year.

No matter who wins this thing, Tigers fans have already lost.

Boy, I'm glad the internet wasn't around in 1986 when the Mets went down 2-0 to Red Sox before heading to Fenway.

I might never ever have gotten to Shea Stadium to see the ball go through Buckner's legs in game six.

Seriously, especially playing in New York.

Nats need to get something going here. They can't afford to drop a Corbin start to a "bullpen game."

They've beaten Cole and Verlander back to back already, but can't get in a situation where they need to do that again. Both guys really weren't as bad as their lines suggest and having to repeat against them is not a good thing.

Max Scherzer scratched from tonight's start with neck problem.

Joe Ross gets the ball instead.

Not a good sign. Last night's game was the "must win." Now Max is injured and a spot start with no notice has to face Cole.

The announcers called it a "bullpen game" about 50 times and AJ Hinch said it was a "bullpen game" before the game, while saying he'd only let him face the Nats lineup twice, so yeah.

“Every World Series game is a bullpen game, mostly, at some point,” said Hinch, slightly in jest, but certainly not joking. “Urquidy will start, and he can go as long as he's good. I don't have necessarily a predetermined plan on how many innings.”
And no one here really considered it an actual couple of innings or so apiece kind of 'bullpen game'.

Basically any game that isn't started by Scherzer, Cole, Verlander, Strasburg in this series is a bullpen game the way teams are built today.

There's a difference between a game that is designed intentionally beforehand to be a scripted bullpen game and a game that has a parachute attached to it in case the starter gets shellacked.

What starter has been shellacked in this series, out of curiosity?

Cole gave up 5 and still went 7. Corbin and Verlander both lost in blowout games, but most of the runs came after they were gone and they both went 6.

Urquidy threw 41 innings over 9 games in the regualr season. That is four and two thirds an outing. If you take away the 2 RP appearances he averages over 6 innings as a starter. Hes not an "opener" for a bullpen day.

Bullpen games use openers. Hes a starter who regularly goes 5+ innings.

I’m sure I could find this out somewhere but help me out. How much rest are they each on? Who’s on shorter rest?

I don’t know that it really matters in a game 7, feels like adrenaline should overpower rest.

If I'm not mistaken, Greinke pitched game 3 and Scherzer hasn't pitched since game 2. Scherzer was supposed to pitch game 5 but was injured.

Just the world series. He's had success every other round including MVP in the ALCS in 2017.

I don't know what his run support is but a 5.68 ERA won't get you a lot of wins.

But yea he's been good in other rounds of the playoffs.

Greinke to get into the 5th, like his last two successful outings, with Cole, Urquidy, Pressley, Smith, Harris, and Osuna ready for whatever.

Big question of course is where exactly is Scherzer's neck/shoulder just two days removed from being forced to miss such a big game.

if he had stayed there is an strong probability the Nats would not have won this world series and he'd be on a $300 million island instead of a $330 million island.

Gerrit Cole, in the postgame, was immediately talking about his time with the Astros in the past tense. Dare I hope the Yankees back the truck up for both him and Strasburg?

Ive never been a fan of Harper. I think he is vastly over rated. I am just happy to pile on him here. Its an easy target.

So regarding the Astros 2017 World Series championship season....

The Astros' setup involved a television on a wall steps from their dugout connected to a camera feed from center field, which was trained on the opposing catcher's signs.

"Team employees and players would watch the screen during the game and try to decode signs—sitting opposite the screen on massage tables in a wide hallway [between the dugout and clubhouse]," Rosenthal and Drellich wrote.

"When the onlookers believed they had decoded the signs, the expected pitch would be communicated via a loud noise—specifically, banging on a trash can, which sat in the tunnel. Normally, the bangs would mean a breaking ball or off-speed pitch was coming."
They employed a pretty advanced sign stealing set up. How much do we care that they cheated their way to that title? We throwing an asterisk on there for life?

I'm unsure how much they continued to employ this system in 2018 and 2019, though they were called out for sign stealing by their opponents in both of those playoff runs as well.

If it's true it's fucking disgusting.

I'm just kidding, tbh I don't really care about this. I mean yes it's important and yes they should punish them harshly (with draft picks taken away) as a deterrent because this has become a real issue for the sport and needs to be stopped (specifically when cameras are involved and it's not just runners on base signaling), but I don't believe in asterisks or anything.

when the red sox apple watch thing happened Rob Manfred disclosed that all teams had been notified that “future violations of this type will be subject to more serious sanctions, including the possible loss of draft picks.”

    gotta do that here, clearly.

I kind of thought I shouldn't have weighed in because of apparent bias.

But I've also never been too heavy opinioned on much of sports' cheating controversies. And sign stealing would absolutely be at the bottom of that list.

I genuinely don't care what the result of this will be. But I also have become pretty bleh about much of sports anymore.

I think maybe it's the people that want to scream to the hilltops about any new scandal or whatever that I'm shaking my head at. As though they're new to all of this.

Yeah I agree with this because I'm the same way. Somebody cheating in sports doesn't rate high on my list of things I care about because it affects my day to day life 0%. I wish I had the time or energy to be as upset about this as some of my Yankee fan friends are.

These clowns get paid millions. I get paid thousands and I paid some of those thousands in the 2017 season rooting my team on and hoping for a world title. I flew to Texas for a world series game even.

Maybe it isn't a big priority on the bad list but I feel cheated as a baseball fan, as a dodgers fan and also because I got cheated out of my actual money.
