I voted again but how do I know she's deserving? You seem a bit biased. Really I should be reviewing film of all the girls before making my vote or else it's just a popularity contest.

To address this yes, it does just become a popularity contest once they are nominated. The girl she went down to the wire against was from Minneapolis so she took a ton of votes from her school. When I saw who was up for it I honestly thought our girl deserved it not just for what she did (multi HR game at the biggest park in the state) but also for who she did it against. (Another school from the top division, who also is our main rival)

Either was it means a lot to our program as we try to become a legitimate big time program.

Harvey is planning to appeal his team-given suspension to the players union on the advice of his agent, which I think is terrible advice. Makes him seem like a petulant child. He was suspended for not showing up to work. We have a rule at my job that says if you don't call in or show up to work you'll get written up and possibly suspended. If you do it more than once you're definitely getting suspended.

Not sure why he thinks this makes him look like anything but a spoiled kid.

Very true. So far we only know what has been reported: that after a series of mistakes dating back to last year, Harvey was suspended for three games.

Man, how far has this guy fallen since being the Dark Knight a few years ago? He took NYC and the Mets' fans by storm but now it seems like he can't get out of his own way. It's a shame.

Reports are coming out that Harvey shut down a Cinco de Mayo a bar in the city, so that's 4 AM. Yeah, that would give me a gnarly (hangover) headache too. Apparently the team sent security people to his place, not a medical team, to check on him. I would take that as they were used to his no-showing things and were worried for his safety.

Can't imagine this is going to end well for anybody involved, especially if he does contest his suspension and it can be proved that he was out partying.

Also, Cardinals in first place. Glad I get the chance to say that even once this season.

    Especially given their recent injuries

Twins calling up Jose Berrios to start saturday. Hopefully he can stay in the bigs without an 8.00 ERA like last season. Some real rotation issues here in MN.

Reds looking good in San Fran.

It's always nice to travel across the country and take 2 of 4, at minimum.

That said, if they can close out 1 of their remaining 3 games there, I consider it a win.

    Santana, Santiago pray for rain.

But seriously for all the issues they are 17-14.

Imagine if the Yankees had a starting pitching staff. I fully expect them to cool off and their series against the Astros shows they're not there yet, but these kids could be really special going forward.

It's good to see those kids Matt Holliday, Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury and Chase Headley being given a chance in the major leagues

One of the youngest cores in baseball, in that their best players might still be a year or 2 away in the minors.

Holliday is a one year deal, Brett and Headley are good veteran presences to mentor the younger players. Ellsbury has one of the worst contracts in baseball, everyone agrees except for him . They'll have MINIMUM of 75 million off the books end of the season, which shows any logical poster that they've worked to get beyond some of their contractual mistakes.

You could make that wishy washy statement about most teams in baseball that have a vaguely promising farm system.

There has been a massive influx in excellent young talent around the majors in the last few years. Just because the Yankees have a couple of young players making waves doesn't make them this team of "kids" especially compared to many other clubs. Contracts aside the starting lineup is still mostly composed of veterans plus Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez. Greg Bird could be a solid player at some point. Yes there is a change in the way the franchise is run but I am giving little credit for running things like teams with much smaller payrolls have been doing for years without the money the Yankees have available to them. I do give them credit for good deals to bring in players like Gregorious and Castro.

The Rockies have a very strong offensive unit.

The question mark coming into the season was their pitching, and 2 months in, the pitching is holding up.

Watching Buster Posey stand there while Harper charged the mound was hilarious. Not sure if it was a "you made this mess, you deal with it" standing there or a "I don't want to get hurt" kind of reluctance to get involved, but either way it was funny. And the whole brawl was topped off by two guys running into each other, full-steam ahead.

Madison Bumgarner walking the other way and staying in the dugout was great too.

His reaction was clearly not wanting to get involved in case he got hurt again.

It is also because players on the DL would face a suspsension if they went on the field.

I didn't know that. Good restraint by MadBum then.

Has to suck for Posey, knowing he's probably getting drilled today. Unless both benches are warned before the first pitch, which wouldn't surprise me.

Yes, and I think that the Nationals did have someone who was on the DL go on the field. I forget, but I thought I caught that on Sports Center this morning.

So Strickland misses out on maybe three innings for throwing at him and Harper misses 36 innings for being pissed off at getting drilled intentionally by a 98 mph pitch.

    Totally makes sense.

I say let them fight. One on one. Then pitchers won't throw missiles at batters anymore.

Morse and Smarjism smashing heads was worth the entire ordeal.

And then batters will stand on the plate and dare pitchers to throw inside, under the threat of charging the mound. Strickland should have gotten suspended for 9 games, assuming he pitches one inning per game. Harper should have gotten one game too.

Pissed off or not, Harper was in the wrong for charging the mound.

Harper is a giant baby. His ego needs a serious check down. Remember it was just a few years ago that douche boy was stylizing home runs in the minors during blowout games.

I hope he gets a 98 mph heater in the balls next time.

Also, worst helmet throw in history.

There should be a base standard for how long a hitter or pitcher gets suspended for. Something like:

Charge the mound - 1 game
    Throw a helmet/bat - 1 game
    Throw a punch - 2 games
    Tackle somebody - 2 games
    And so on.

For the pitchers, if there was intent to throw at a batter, his suspension should be equal to the batter's suspension. If the batter doesn't charge the mound, then suspend the pitcher for 5 games or something. If a pitcher throws at a batter and the batter is injured, the pitcher should have to miss as many games as the batter does. I know this could lead to hitters trying to get hit, but it would have to be up to MLB to determine intent.

David Price is having some sort of mental breakdown where he's lashing out at the Boston media and I'm not entirely sure why. He just returned from the DL and his last start was very encouraging but for some reason (and admittedly I don't follow the clubhouse on a daily basis like I once did) he is now at war with the team reporters:

“I’m not cautious,” he said. “I’m the same me. I don’t talk to the media every day like I did last year and I guess I get blown up for that. But I was honest with everything they asked me last year and I get blown up for that. So they did this to themselves. Talk to me on the day I pitch and that’s it. There are no more personal interviews. There are no more asking me questions on a personal level. That’s done.”
After he got into it with Drellich, Buckley approached Price and all he told Buckley was he’s only speaking on days he pitches and said, “write whatever the [expletive] you want. Just write it. Whatever the [expletive] you want.” Buckley was told by Red Sox PR to wait around a few minutes after the exchange to potentially speak with Price, but the last words he heard from Price were, “[Expletive] them! [Expletive] them all. All of them.”
This fuckin guy man. All I want to do is root for him to pitch well (which of course I'll continue to do) but he makes it very hard. Why did you sign a billion dollar contract here just to whine and moan about the media? Are we supposed to feel bad for you because the Boston media is tough? Again I don't even know what he's whining about exactly but it seems like he listens to local sports radio and hates how they make fun of him, or something. I don't even know. But he clearly should not have signed here if he's this sensitive.

Twins catcher Chris Gimenez has pitched in 4 out of 55 Twins games already this year.

The Twins are still in first place some how.

The Indians are playing well below their talent level. They should be 10 games above .500 right now. Instead, their struggling to hold off the Twins, whose current momentum is being driven by Sano and Santana, and nothing really more.

Colorado continues to look like a threat. CR's offense is nasty. If Story and Gonzalez start clicking, that is a dangerous lineup from top to bottom.

The NL West has a very good chance to send 3 teams to the playoffs this year.

Houston versus Washington is looking like a very probable and promising World Series this year.

Don't discount Jose Berrios. Hes been great since coming up.

And Mauer is having a bit of a resurgence. Still not what he once was but hitting .290 this year with a little power is a big step up from the last few seasons.

This time of year, a lot of people pick the Nationals to be the NL champs, and they've never been to the world series. That's why it is insane.

History says you're right, but what we're seeing this year is a more complete team.

I'm still penciling in Houston. You give me a 5 game series and I take Houston all day, every day.

Well I think if you were to bet on the World Series being HOU vs WAS you'd probably get something close 5 to 1 odds (Astros are +225 for the pennant and Nationals are +275) which don't get me wrong is a fairly good probability for this time of year, but 1 in 5 chances are far short of being very probable. If you were to bet that with even odds, thinking even it had a 50% chance of hitting, you'd be a sucker.

But in baseball not betting terms, I just think so many things can happen in the next 3 to 4 months like injuries or just ups and downs of the season, plus the postseason is very flukey. We've got what, 90 games to go? And even if those two teams remain the favorites and #1 seeds, they could still be upset in the playoffs. Granted, "very probable" may just be a turn of phrase not you literally thinking it has a more-than-likely chance of happening in which case, carry on.

#43 overall college prospect Luke Heimlich, pitching for Oregon State, discovered to be a registered sex offender. Apparently five years ago he molested a six year old for a period of nine months. He was 15 at the time. Brings up an interesting debate...if this guy is the ace that he appears to be, would you be happy with your team drafting him? Is this the "untouchable" crime that MLB teams won't be able to work around? Drunk driving, domestic violence, those seem to be easily forgiven for the most part.

He should NOT be pitching for any MLB team.

He should be hung in public by his dick and left to dry root.

    Untouchable and unforgivable crime.

Tanaka's been downright awful so far but thankfully for you the rest of the rotation has been great. The Yankees are definitely back and it's admittedly exciting to have a traditional power back in the mix for a division title after a relatively long (4-year) dip into mediocrity. I want the rivalry to be reignited so I can hate hate you guys again but Sox-Orioles is the rivalry to watch in the division for now.

By that logic, 4/5 of the Mets staff has worked out their issues because they've had 4 good starts in a row.

What I'm saying is that I'm on board.

It is June 26th and the Twins still have single digits in the loss column when it comes to road games. 23-9

Yes. Their back up catcher has 5 or 6 pitching appearances already this year.

Exciting year for baseball so far in 2017.

Lot of young talent peaking through, Springer, Judge and Bellinger in particular.

    Lot of strong MVP candidates.

NL West is the most interesting division in baseball. Fun times with Arizona, Colorado and LA.

LA and Washington could make for one hell of an NL Title Game, while Houston in the World Series would be a nice sight. Houston versus Washington or LA would be hell of fun.

Fun team with a ton of stars.

Springer, Bregman, Altuve, Correa and McCann.

Great depth at pitching, with a top level closer in Giles.

Keuchel looks like a guy who could be the AL's version of Kershaw.

It's going to be tough to keep them all, but that said, Houston also has a top 5 minor league system with 4 or 5 top 100 prospects and great scouting.

It's been a weird year for a Jays fan.

Things have gone so wrong, yet we're still in the hunt because every team is in the hunt.

Former big league pitcher Anthony Young passed away. He holds the record for the most consecutive losses with 27, all with the Mets, of course.

I was at the game when he finally snapped the streak, I was 10 years old. First Mets game I ever saw, me and a couple of my cousins.

Outside of the losses, which are not always a pitchers fault, was he any good?

He was decent. Had a career 3.89 ERA. He was as gamer who pitched whenever he was asked.

I learned this from his obit:
During the losing streak he filled in for the closer, recording 12 straight saves and throwing 23.2 scoreless IP. That's pretty crazy when you consider he was mired in such a protracted losing streak.

    From Wikipedia:
Over a two year stretch from April '92 to May '94, he made 27 consecutive starts without a W, but half of those were quality starts. He did play for terrible teams though, the Mets and Cubs.
