Mets trade for Lindor and Carlos Carrasco. They give up Amed Rosario, Andres Gimenez, and their 9th and 10th rates prospects.
I am cautiously optimistic for this trade but I will change my mind if Lindor walks after this year. Giving up as much as they did for potentially one year of Lindor seems like a lot.
Rosario and two mid tier prospects is a steal for the Mets. Obviously it'll dip if he leaves, but I imagine they are already in talks to extend him. Cleveland is really tearing it down.

Time and time again they pass up opportunities to make big moves or to extend their current players or sign on big free agents. And every time, they take the cheap way out. And it directly effects their chances of competing or making a proper run in the playoffs.

The headline refers to him as an ex-Sox staffer because MSN picked that story up from the Boston Globe, which would have related their headline to the local team they cover. No different than if a former Red Sox, Yankees, and Dodgers player died. Each local paper would claim the player to be a member of the team they cover. “Mets GM fired” won’t get as many clicks in Boston as “Ex Red Sox Exec Fired”

The tributes to Hammerin' Hank are pouring in, and are well deserved. Calling him a legend does not seem like a strong enough word.
Hank Aaron was not just a great ball player, but he was one of a few truly important sports icons in America. He's up there in importance with Jackie Robinson and Mohammed Ali as people who transcended sports. He understood the responsibility that came along with being someone that millions looked up to. He wasn't shy about telling his own story, about how as a child he had to hide under the bed when the KKK were in the neighborhood. And he kept all of the hate mail and death threats he received. I can't imagine having to wonder about being in someone's crosshairs after rounding the bases on another home run. Or being followed after a game, or in the offseason.
He talked about the steroid problem only to give his opinion in general, that players should only use their God-given talents and abilities., but he never publicly called out the bullshit Barry Bonds pulled - he'd only say he was good friends with Barry's father, Bobby. But it had to have pissed him off. Bonds was a great player before he started cheating, but he didn't get the death threats every day. Hank handled this about as well as anyone could expect.
I remember my late uncle telling us how he got to sit next to Aaron on an airplane trip one winter. My uncle was a small man, about 5'2" and maybe 120 lbs, and he travelled a lot for business. It was common for him to be asked if he minded if the empty seat next to him could be taken by someone who needed a little more room. But Aaron, being a large man, had asked the flight attendant to approach my uncle about if he minded switching from the window to the aisle, to prevent autograph seekers from disturbing him as he planned to nap on the flight. My uncle used to tell the story - "How could I say no to the best hitter I've ever seen - unless you're gonna tell me Willie Mays is gonna be across the aisle!" I think my cousin still has the autographed TWA cocktail napkin from the flight.

I’ve seen more than a few articles arguing names like Braves and Chiefs are acceptable because they’re not derogatory names. Not what I believe, mind you, just what I’ve read.
It is notable that actual Native Americans typically are much less bothered by the racist sports team name than the general public.
While I’ve seen nothing to confirm or deny that, if true, I wouldn’t be surprised. Most of the political correctness behind things like this seem driven by that lovely phrase “white guilt”. And I think Native Americans probably would be focusing potential anger at “white men” for a completely different, as well as incredibly valid, reason.
However, probably a discussion better suited to an alternative thread.

IMO The Braves, Indians, Chiefs, etc should change their names just for the branding/marketing potential anyway regardless of the "racism" in using the names. It is literally millions of new jerseys, shirts, hats to sell again. They don't have to hide the past or their old names or be ashamed of it. Just say it is "a new era" and teams get new logos all the time…

Schilling is a dope for asking to be removed. He's very close to making it. He says he sees the trend and knows he won't make it but he's at 71%. He might make it next year in his final year. I'm not sure I would bet on it, but even if he has a 35% chance of making it, why remove yourself? Idiot move. That is really not true. I have talked to Native Americans about this issue a lot and most of the ones I have talked to hate all the team names. I remember seeing like one survey that was like 100 people that said they are not bothered by the team names but that is not a good representation of all Native Americans.
I don't get worked up over who is in and out anymore of any hall of fame. I think most of the processes for deciding are flawed on various levels but nothing is going to change them. I think most people that "deserve" to be in make their way in at some point and of course you can argue plenty of people in hall of fames that don't deserve to be there. I just gave up debating it.
I refuse to acknowledge any Hall of Fame that doesn't have it's greatest player ever in it, which is Barry Bonds.
